oocSecret tags have been removed.

We are still waiting for Vintar. Things usually slow down this time of year with the holidays but lets try to keep moving at a crawl. Unless there is something you want to take care of here in town, Drogo can help book you passage to Farholme and then we'll be on our merry way.

”Ah, dere ye be, thought we ‘ad ter go search fer ye for eh sec. Err… yennow we be welcome ter stay in beds, aye Drogo? I can lend ye sum coin, if need be…” Gragham’s eyebrows raised as he voiced his confusion about Huvan’s request for a sleeping place in the stables. ”Anneway, we prolly outta lay low in dis town until we be able ter move on. I can use eh proper day’s rest meself, really… boats nay be my cup o’ tea –nay offense, Drogo.”

Realizing that he had a brief moment to enjoy solid ground under his feet, Gragham wondered if he should have a go at transcribing a few of his spells to scrolls… It might prove useful with the dangerous times ahead to have something extra. Plus he just was curious to try it out.

Drogo guffaws at Huvan's request. The stable? Der no need to sleep in da barn my boy. We have a nice quiet room upstairs fer you all. Drogo stands. Well I better be gettin back to the bar. Let me show you to the room.

When everyone is ready Drogo leads them out into the hall and up a flight of stairs. Eventually they reach a door that opens up to a simple sleeping quarters. There are are four cots, blankets, a couple of storage chests and a table. Its not much, but its clean and private. The privy is outside. Need anything else before I go?

oocOf course Huvan can sleep in the barn if he wants to. Gragham can add the two scrolls of lesser restoration to his character sheet. Now if there is anything else you want to buy or do, let me know now because the next post will fast forward you onto the ship taking you north, which will most certainly be the farthest that Gragham has ever travelled. Of course, Huvan and Carlyle are much more travelled.

Gragham looks around the room and nods appreciatively. ”Dun’t need more ‘n dis… Ye ‘ave me tanks, Drogo. I nay could ‘ve known what ter do in dis town without ye. Fer dat matter… can ye do me jus’ one more favor? Us friend who got ‘imself taken in by dem authorities goes by der name o’ Voodoo. Human, thief, likes him Stuffa an’ wid eh short temper, but eh good lad. Could ye keep ehn eye out fer ‘im, please?” Gragham gave his fellow dwarf a more detailed description of the rogue: hair, features, clothing, build… enough to give Drogo a fairly decent idea as to what Voodoo looked like. ”…After all, if he be released or sumtin’, I reckon he might wanner check out un o’ dem few establishments dat be run by eh dwarf… Jus’ eh hunch.” Gragham winked and nodded to his fellow Katzenburgian.

Once Drogo went back downstairs to tend to his tavern, Gragham sat himself at one of the beds, laid down his possessions and started unbuckling the various straps of his armour. ”Well, I dunno what we be able ter do fer Voodoo… Huvan, ye nebber been ‘ere yet as well, I assume? What ehbout yerself, Carlyle… Do ye ‘ave nay ideas on ‘ow ter ‘elp Voodoo?” Gragham fell silent as he laid his breast- and backplate beside him onto the sheets, looking from Huvan to Carlyle and back, giving them the opportunity to voice their opinions. Personally, he suspected that there wasn’t a sensible, safe way to help Voodoo besides turning himself in to the authorities and ruining any escape that the rogue might have arranged for them by his sacrifice. The implications of Voodoo’s deceit worried Gragham. At best it could be seen as the ramblings of a drunk or a false impersonation to obtain the benefits of the credentials of an emissary… or something. He still didn’t know if it merely had been a routine check or if they were actively being sought for some reason or other.

The dwarf sighed, laid out his armour on the bed, put on his mithril chain –just in case, then made his way over to the table with his scroll case and writing equipment. ”Bein’ eh cleric, I be able ter put spells on paper, or so I been told…” He glanced at the others and grinned: ”If ye see me head explode, ye can tell Father Babbet I nay paid ehttention when he taught me dat part.”

"Aye, thanks to ya Master Drogo. This will do right fine." he says, and looking around the room with his approval he sets his gear down on a cot.

Laying back on the cot once Drogo leave he closes his eyes to rest a bit, listening to the sounds of Gragham removing his armor. At the dwarf's question he sits up and sighs. "Not sure 'bout that right now..." he starts off says as he digs into his pack and pulls out his hat of disguise. "...but I can go poke around tha dock a bit, and a few o' tha taverns and see if I can find out anything. 'Sides I need ta find some place ta pick up a few things before we take sail.

Huvan opened his mouth to protest in an effort to explain his reasoning for spending the night in the barn, but then thought better of it. It probably sounds ridiculous, especially in the face of Master Drogo's generous offer. Thank you Master Drogo. The rooms are more than good. Huvan set his pack down next to his bed and went about loosening the straps of his armor. When he heard mention of Voodoo's name he shifted his attention to the dwarf. I think Carlyle has a sound plan. It seems there's not much more we can do without snapping a twig or rustling up some leaves. Huvan finished removing his armor and continued addressing his companions. I hope you don't mind if I step out for a bit as well. I'd like to visit with my new friend Ruby. The poor beast has been so neglected I think she dearly needs some attention.

Huvan leaves the room and heads to the stable to visit with Ruby. Along the way he stops off by the kitchen to see about acquiring a nice cut of raw beef for his new found friend.

The night moves on. Gragham spends it in the room scribing a pair of scrolls that may end up being quite useful on the next leg of their journey. Its tedious work at first but after a while the dwarf finds that it is not too much unlike smithing, besides the lack of physical labor. Its painstaking, careful work which requires careful concentration and a steady hand.

Huvan meanwhile goes out to bring Ruby a meal. The wolf greats the druid with the same uncertainty as before, and the smell of raw beef makes him even more unsettled as he doesn't know that is meant for him. However, when Huvan passes over the meat the wolf's defenses seem to melt away even if it is only for the briefest of seconds. He actually drops his head in uncoerced submission as he takes it in his mouth and then trots to the back of the pen where he begins to feed on it greedily. Once again the wolf goes back into his defensive posture unsure if anyone will try to take his new found meal. Huvan understands that gaining the wolf's trust may take a while, but so far things were going well.

Carlyle decided to explore the city a bit and see what he could find out about the Inquisitors and possibly Voodoo. After asking around a bit he found some taverns frequented by temple guards. Unfortunately that is the best he could do none disclosed any information about any new or significant prisoners. Even his inquiries about magical items came up empty. Heaven's Gate was obviously much more under the control of No'Mos then Asylum, so such brokers were difficult to find and would be even more difficult to approach. But all wasn't for not, as the temple guards proved quite good company and he even won a few gold.

The next morning came and the group was greated by a sunny sky, perfect for travelling. The bright sun coming through the window was a welcome sight to all but Carlyle, who was still a bit groogy from the night before. However a good breakfast of sausage and eggs seemed to wake him right up and all were ready for their trip. Drogo, besides proving to be an excellent cook, was also resourceful as a travel agent as well. He arranged passage for the three of them on a merchant ship headed for Farholme as late additions, meaning their names wouldn't have to be added to the logs until after the ship left port. This would mean that thier leaving the city may never be discovered by the Inquisitor or at least not the ships logs returned to Heaven's Gater, where they could be reinspected.

The ship itself was much different then the river boat they had taken from Asylum. For one, this ship was much bigger as it was used for the deep choppy waters of the open sea. Another difference was that, despite being a merchant ship, it didn't have the heavy weaponry of the Heather's Wind. The young Captain, Malcom Blake, appeared capable although a bit cocky, and kept a very tidy and orderly ship.

The journey to Farholme started well. The first day was perfect, and the days that followed weren't too much worse. It was clear with a good steady wind and the ship made good progress the first three days. Captain Blake was strict but kept the men at ease. On the fourth day the the skies were so clear that Gragham could see a ship to the south of them in the distance. By the fifth day the ship was closer and all could sense that there was difference amongst the Captain and crew, who were much more tense then normal. Something was amiss and the group was pretty sure it had something to do with the ship in the distance.

Gragham was standing at the railing, looking out towards the other ship. His stomach had settled by now, having grown accustomed to the rocking and swaying of the ship on the huge, open sea. It had taken him a good amount of time to cope with it though: having the constitution of a bull, the unfamiliar motions hadn’t made him too nauseous, but the added stress of the utterly terrifying size of the endless waters had caused him to spend his first two days hanging over the railing. In-between giggles, the amused sailors told him that this was a common affliction among “land lovers”, as they called them, and that the nausea would pass in due time. They had been proven right and, after a third day of stumbling around with a sickly green hue on his face, the dwarf could now walk the deck in an honourable way, something that he thanked Ka’Los for in his prayers several times each day.

He had been contemplating the events in Heavan’s Gate this morning: the forging of the two scrolls had been successful –and forging it was, he had noticed: a quill may not have the weight of a smith’s hammer, but the craft of transferring magic onto paper was much more than simply writing down an incantation… it was, indeed, forging something, a process that took as much energy and concentration as if he had been forging a blade. The resulting scrolls were items of beauty in themselves, and Gragham’s perception towards scrolls, potions and other magical items had been deeply affected. If a simple scroll cost a person this much energy, then what about potions, or permanent items? He would have to thank Mazo a few more times for his work when he returned home.

Voodoo’s predicament had been troubling him, and it still was: they hadn’t been able to discover anything about him or his fate after they had parted at the docks, despite Carlyle’s endeavours throughout the city. In the end, they had been left no choice but to leave a note behind in Drogo’s care, along with some gold to cover his expenses and his possible voyage towards Farholme –or return to Asylum, a choice that was out of their hands now. The thought of heading off to demand a meeting with the Inquisitor about his companion had haunted hiss mind continuously, but each time he was about to stand up, he reminded himself of the fact that Voodoo had probably saved them valuable time and had kept the rod safely away from No’Mos eyes… and he was certain that being found with a No’Mos communication rod would have earned them a one-way ticket to the dungeons. Still, it didn’t feel right to leave one of their own behind, no matter how short he had known him or no matter how much trouble Voodoo would give them with his short temper and his love for addictive substances.

Huvan’s new friend had been cause for amusement, a slight feeling of annoyance, but above all a growing fondness of the druid. Them druids will take in any stray dog, cat, rat, or any other animal for that matter, he thought, a smile growing on his lips. The resemblances with Ellesaria were impossible to ignore, although the almar was not nearly as headstrong and opinionated as the dworc. This had proven to create much less problems during discussions, planning and even just idle banter. Still, Gragham found that he missed Ellesaria’s presence. And then there was the fact that this new animal, having been mistreated as it had been, was much more cautious and difficult to approach, even by Huvan himself –and that was, being confined to a ship on open sea, a challenge, to put it mildly.

And now they were here. With another ship on their tail for over a day now. At first the dwarf had dismissed it as merely another trading vessel on the same route, but the anxiety he felt among the crew made him wonder if they suspected that that vessel’s occupants had less benign intentions. He looked down at his chainshirt: while a good choice of armour to wear on the rocky seas, he would feel safer in his full plate, should it come to a battle. Then again, he wondered if he would be able to stay afoot in his heavy plated armour… Gragham walked up to Captain Malcom Blake: ”Well cap’n, do ye reckon dat ship dere be givin’us trouble?”, he asked, guesturing towards the vessel behind them; ”…Cause if it be commin’ ter dat, we can prepare usselves ter fight ehlongside ye… prolly put me full-plate on, p’haps?” He patiently awaited the captain’s response: after all, this man was in charge of the ship, and it felt prudent to acknowledge him as the one in charge right now. It also is a good opportunity to find out what this man is made of, he thought.

Carlyle came back more than a little frustrated from his lack of success on finding out anything about Voodoo and not finding anywhere to purchase the items that he had wanted…Now I remember why I never spent much time in Heaven’s Gate. The No’Mos control is just to tight for my likin’ The few pieces gold that he had won did little to lessen his disappointment on his nights activities.

With no other choices that he could see the group reluctantly agreed to set sail with out Voodoo, and at Gragham’s insistence that they provide some gold for the rogue’s expenses, he reluctantly parted with some of his gold to that effect.

Carlyle spent the first few days on ship relaxing and getting to know the ship’s captain and crew (and of course giving Gragham an untold amount of ribbing with regard to the dwarf’s seasickness.) So he had no problem detecting the uneasiness that the crew felt due to the approaching ship. So another waterborne fight it’s gonna be then.” he though while he organized his gear and , mentally preparing himself for such an event. It was during this that he remembered that he had never answered Gragham on the whether he wanted the Boots of levitation or the Cloak of Resistance……the boot would be a nice thing ta have for certain “jobs” that I find myself dreamin’ up. He reached the main deck just as the dwarf was asking the captain about his thought on the ship. Gragham’s comment about changing into his full plate armor caused the rogue to change his mind deciding to take the cloak instead of the boots, but he would wait until he and Gragham were alone to tell him. “Aye, Cap’n should we get ourselves ready for a fight?

Huvan and Ruby sat together in a secluded corner on the aft deck. The druid watched the land run away from the ship as he gently scratched ruby behind one of her ears. The wolf was still quite tentative, especially around anyone other than Huvan.

Over the last day or so the druid had noticed that the crew was more on edge than usual. Rather than playing dice in their off time, they spent it on the rail staring out at the ship that had recently appeared in the distance. Huvan finally decided that he needed to give the ship a good look for himself. To that point he had written it off as simply another merchant ship that happened to be crossing their path. Why would I have any reason to think otherwise? That was what he wanted to believe. So he stood up from his position next to Ruby and patted her on the head as he walked toward the ship's rail. Why do I feel a sense of danger at every turn. Huvan looked over at Gragham and realized that there was good reason for his dark thoughts.

Huvan made his way to Gragham and Carlyle at the other end of the ship. As he approached he heard Gragham ask the Captain about the ship on the horizon so he found a place off to the side where he could hear the Captain's answer without interrupting.

Captain Blake regards Gragham for a moment, as if deciding to even address the question at first. He then looks back at the ship and squints as if to take a second look before turning back to the group and sighing. Difficult to say right now. Its moving quickly up on us and there have been rumors of pirates in the area. I don't want to panic you though. Most likely its just nothing. In either case, I wouldn't worry about it just yet. We have at least a half a day on them still. That would mean that the ship could be upon them by morning.

Huvan nods his head at the Captain's words. A half day you say? The druid turns toward Gragham as he thinks aloud, I could take a look if you think it's worth doing. I expect you do ... all things considered. I'll just need someone to watch over Ruby while I'm gone. She can stay in the hold but I'd rather not have her chained. Using his hand as a shade against the sun, Huvan looks back out toward the mysterious ship. After spending a moment calculating the distance in his head, the druid nods to himself. If I leave now I might be back in time for supper. A smile spreads across Huvan's face as he regards the Captain. The druid expected that by this point in the conversation the man should be wearing a most confused expression.

As Huvan predicted the Captain does wear a thoroughly confused look on his face. Are you daft? How do you intend to take a look? Of course Huvan has no way of knowing what the Captain's experience is with magic's and the like but its probably safe to assume very little given what they have seen since leaving Asylum. How he and the crew would react is anyone's guess.

“Fair 'nuff Captian, we’ll wait an’ see.” Carlyle replies.

The almar’s words confused him also for a short time until he remembered Huvan’s and Voodoo’s recounting of the mission to find Keeg. The rogue’s eyes shift from Huvan to Gragham to the Captain and then back to the almar, unsure of how much they should divulge about themselves. Since Captain Blake is from such a heavily controlled No’Mos city, he is not sure what the man’s reaction might be, but Huvan had already piqued the captain’s intrest. Well we should be able to explain this away without too much trouble...

“What do ya think Grag? It would give us a lot more time to prepare if need be.”

Gragham, a bit surprised, looked at Huvan. Go and have a look? When it dawned on him that Huvan probably meant something involving magic, he then looked back at the captain and then towards Carlyle, now concerned. He followed the rogue's lead, however, hoping that Ka'Los' blessing would be enough to put the men at ease. "Aye Carlyle, I reckon dat be eh good plan... Good on ye, Huvan.", he replied casually. "Dun't worry cap'n, we can do summat wid dem 'elp o' dem gods. I be eh priest o' Ka'Los." He gave the captain the most reassuring smile he could muster.
