The General's Knick Knacks and Exotics
As you walk in, you see a tall wooden counter, behind which stands a Sun Elf from some distant land and a red-bearded dwarf. Racks of the most exotic armors can be seen behind the counter, while around the shop are the most basic types of gear. Such gear most gladiators would say they could do without, but you never know when a torch or a grappling hook, or even that portable ram in the corner, might come in useful. On the counter itself are two lists. The first contains the general goods, while the second shows the prices for the exotic weapons and armors sold here. A note says: Code:

Walking into the new shop in town, Aran scans over the equipment. "Ironic that I should shop at the General's store. "I'd like to buy one of those backpacks, some flint and steel, and I was wonderring if I could get this signature crest engraved on my shield here. Protruding a small triskelion, the rune of Puruit, Aran puts it on the counter.

The elf nods, quickly producing the requested general items. "That'll be one gold, seven silver please," he says, laying the items on the counter.
The dwarf examines the shield. "Hm..." he says thoughtfully. "I can do it for ye, but ye might be wantin' a better shield on which ta put yer crest. This ol' thing ain't much good fer puttin' on special symbols. P'raps gettin' a master craftsman ta work on makin' one fer ye? If'n ye still want me ta do it, I'll be chargin' ye 25 gold. Shouldn't be takin' me too long ta do." |

Aran hands over a gold piece and counts out seven silver pieces on the counter. "Thak you. I guess I will hold off on the crest for now." Aran turns back to the counter having donned his new backpack. "I was wonderring, if I buy one of those lanterns, will your shop sell more oil for it?"

The dwarf paused. "Hol', now, ye cleric. If'n ye want, I can make ye a shield better than any other in this city. When I was back in me homeland, I was considered a master craftsman, at least until General Vos captured me. I can make ye one of bronze, or me companion 'ere can make ye a darkwood shield. Or, if'n ye be willing ta wait, I can make ye one o' mithril, or even adamantine. Be ye interested?"
The elf smiled at the cleric's request. "Of course we can sell you extra oil. Wouldn't want the lamp to go out, would we? The extra oil would be 3 copper per ounce." |

"I may just take you up on that offer at a later date when I can afford an even better shield, but for now at least I know it wouldn't put my shield out of commission for battle." Picking out four gold pices and three copper pieces, Aran pays for a hooded lantern. "I'll pay 4 gp for the lantern and three copper pieces too if it doesn't come with oil. If it does, I'll save the copper for another day.

Khaenon enters the store cautiously at first. He had never been here before because his budget did not allow him to consider such exotic items, but after the last arena bout he had been through his reward had been significant. He walked up to the counter and reviewed the lists of exotic armors. a few jumped out at him, but he finally settled on light armor so as not to slow him down in battle. The best one for him was slightly out of his price range. "What sort of payment plan do you offer on the Darkleaf Breastplate?" he rasped

The dwarf, his red beard divided and braided today, greeted the customer loudly as he wallked in. "Well met, lad. I heard ye was in tha General's fight. I hear ye did well. Ye killed Raagdush, did ye not?
"Aye, payment plans. Well, see, we need a downpayment of at least 20% of the offered price, which would be...385 gold 6 silver. We charge 4% interest every two weeks. If you are killed, or if you default on the payment, we recover the armor and keep any payments already made. By the way, 4% interest adds...77 gold 1 silver 2 copper every two weeks until the armor is paid off." |

"Yeah... I killed the paladin in the arena yesterday. He put up one hell of a fight. Just making sure: There's no penalty for missing a payment other than the interest right? There's no sort of minimum payment after each fight right?" Khaenon shruged, "Not that It matters Assuming I survive I'm going to try to pay this off as soon as I can anyway or the interest is going to eat me alive. I can pay 60% now which would be 1156 gold and 8 silver. That should leave me with enough to live off of till the next fight... and if I make enough to pay off the last 771 gold and 2 silver by the day of the fight can we waive the 4% interest since technically it will have only been 13 days?"

The dwarf stroked his beard. "Well, actually, you must pay at least 5% every two weeks, which comes to...96 gold 2 silver every two weeks. If you default on that payment, then we repossess the armor and have no obligation to return your payments to date. If you cannot pay, come see us; we may be able to lower the weekly payment to 2.5%, but we'd have to raise the interest rate. And no, you will still have to make at least one interest payment on a payment plan."

Khaenon's mouth twitched with the news of the required payment and the required interest payment. eventually he sighed and shrugged "I suppose that if I must I must... I need the protection and I wouldn't be able to afford it all at once regardless." Khaenon Heaved the chest of gold from his winnings onto the counter. He did a few quick mental calculations and counted out what he would not pay at this point from the chest. "Here's 60%" He said dropping 8 silver from a pocket into the chest. "That is 1156 gold and 8 silver. I'll be back in two weeks hopefully with the last 40% and the first interest payment... though I don't know that my next fight will pay as well as my last."

Machtige walks notices a new shop when she is walking back from the arena. On impulse she decides to go in and see what they have in stock.
Exotics? I wonder what they have in here that would be so exotic? Well only one way to find out. She is curious as she pushes open the door to see a striking human gladiator hefting a large amount of coins onto the counter. Wow, are things that expensive here? Wonder how long it would take me to accumulate that much wealth? As her thoughts trail away, she looks down to her belt pouch full of gold from her recent fights. Maybe it wouldn't take her as long as she thought, and this pouch was beginning to effect her walk due to it's weight. Well let's get rid of some it then. Now what do they have? Machtige wanders about, looking at the shelves. She is afraid to touch anything, so she merely inspects. Sometimes she stands on her tiptoes in order to get a better view or see something fully. Eventually she makes her way to the counter where she reads to extensive list of all the goods they have to offer. A few things catch her eye, and she is glad indeed that she happened by. "Good day, sirs. I would of course like to purchase a few items. What other point does a store have really?.... Anyway, I would like a regular Lamp, one of those Mithral Bucklers I have heard so much about. I want to pay as much as possible up front, so how much for all of that?" |

(OOC: Can't miss a capture the flag fight!)
After being stared at by the two across the counter from her, Machtige lifts her considerably heavy money pouch from her waist to the counter. She smiles at the two while having a little trouble getting it up the last few inches to the counter. "Scored pretty well last fight. Now here is 741gp, I'll buy the Lamp, which I assume has oil in it and use the rest for a down payment on the buckler. So 6 coppers toward the lamp and the remaining 740 gold and 94 coppers will go toward the Buckler. Wait, I can't just very well carry this around at all times. So let's take.... 1 gold and 2 silver pieces so I can purchase a backpack as well. Which gives us a total of 739 gold and 74 coppers for the Buckler. Is that ok? Well then, I'll take the lamp and backpack and be on my way. I'll be back soon don't you doubt." On the condition that they actually give over the lamp with oil in it and a backpack, Machtige dashes out the door. |

The elf silently grabbed a lamp and a backpack and handed them both to the gladiator, taking the money as well. The dwarf nodded, saying, "Of course. I'll get started making the shield right away. Should you like it enchanted as well, or just standard? It will take an extra two weeks for each level of enchantment, but it might help you in your fights. And I'm sure you will be able to pay when it's finished."
