Fire And Ice [Level 2-3; Fight]

Entering the arena, the gladiators take note of the changes in the environment, emerging out of thin air. The South Western and North Eastern corners snow and ice are gushing through the squares from the rapid winds that are whirling around in those sections, ice covering the normally dry concrete. The North Western and South Eastern corners, the smell of fire and brimstone can be smelt, fire and magma are the floor in these squares, not the concrete under the gladiators feet.

The red areas are fires. Everyone standing inside a red field takes 5 fire damage per round, if you simply walk through a red square without stopping in one you take 2 damage per square, reflex save DC 15 to negate.

The blue squares are cold and windy areas. The temperature there is freezing, but not as cold as it has to be to hurt someone standing on such a square. One square counts as double the movement due to the icy patches. Projectile weapons shot through such a square have a 50% miss chance, 20% if the target stands in a blue square but the projectile doesn't cross any other blue square. Thrown weapon miss chances depend on size category and will be announced if requested.


Description of Arena: Concrete, with elemental changes in each corner.

Here is what I need for you to include in your first post:

Public: Position, a description of your pre-fight action and visibly worn or carried gear. You may start in any square.

Private: Initiative, HP, AC, pre-fight action, gear and any special feats that might come into play, such as Dodge, Mobility, and so on.


Well organized and descriptive posts will earn you up to 10% bonus XP. Good roleplaying will also net up to an additional 10%. Not consistently posting within 36 hrs may cost you a penalty to XP. Saturday and Sunday are excluded from this requirement.

Showing no signs of fear, Onju strode forth into the arena and glanced around casually. Satisfied with what he saw, he began to cast a spell, causing a shimmer in the air before him; a degree of extra protection. He held a wand in his left hand, and another tucked into his belt, keeping his right hand free for somatic components; his usual bow was shouldered. Finally, he took up position at G7 and began to watch the entrances. "I'm going to need some more protection than what I've got, here's hoping some warriors wrapped in steel arrive and surround me."

Note to self: An appropriate CR encounter is one that uses up 1/4 of the group's resources. Not 1/4 the group's party members.

Illyssa strides into the arena behind Onju, her spirits lifted since her last fight. She had actually done some damamge that time. She hoped she could do the same now. Unslinging her bow, she reached into her belt and grabbed a potion, drinking its contents. Her skin began to glow with what seemed like a holy light. Looking at Onju, she said, "Gladiator, it seems we have not yet met. I am Illyssa Theorin."

OOCSorry about the delay in posting position; I posted at the end of class and haven't gotten a chance to edit until now. Position F6.

As the tyrannical priest of Hextor enters the arena for his fifth fight, he does so with confidence. Although he was badly maimed during his last fight, he had held the line with courage and in doing so, won the approval of his god. Dressed head to too in armor, the half-orc wastes no time getting into position. Once ready, he raises his one good arm to the sky and shouts a prayer to the Scourge of Battle as divine energy surrounds him.

Now ready for battle, he draws his flail and waits patiently...

OOCCurrent position is G9.

Azz walks into the arena and throws glances at the corners. "This otta be fun. I can get my coffee iced in one corner an' roast marshmellows inna other". He walks into the dead center of the field and pulls out a potion. Immediately, he arms grow as his muscles bulge from the magic. He flexs them a little to get a familiar feel. "Now all we be needin' is sumthin' ta hit"!

The gladiators enter the arena and await their opponents. In each corner, from above the arena floor, arrive an impish, winged humanoid. Two of which are of an icy blue color, their hair a cool, baby blue, frozen to the tips like ice shards. The other two almost look like their made of molten lava, judging from their color. Their hair is a fiery red, almost as if a flame is burning atop their head.

Onju casts his usual opening spell, putting up a warding more to protect himself from his own summoned creatures should they go rogue than necessarily anything else. "I think... yes, I'm sure of it, I've studied these things..." he remarked as he searched through his mind for knowledge about them.

Onju thinks for a moment about what he could remember of these monsters.


The ice mephits do not wait to attack, unleashing their magical powers as Onju concentrates on his spell. Two missiles of arcane energy come forth from both of them, slamming in to the closest target to them.

Two missiles crunch into Illyssa's chest and the other two strike Azzkikur.

The fire mephits seem content waiting upon their molten land.

Azz feels the burn of magic as the does it's damage. But he doesn't give the crowd the satisfaction of hearing him call out in pain. With a snarl on his face, he charges the small ice creature. When the creature could harm him that easily, he doesn't worry much about his defense, only that he take his foe down before it could do any more damage. His trident is leveled as he quickly moves into the area of cold. The weapon strikes true as all three tines penetrate the body.

Onju shuffles over to H6 and levels his wand, firing off a ray of blue energy at the Ice Mephit that fails to land true. "Be careful, they've got breath weapons," Onju calls out to the others. "If you've got a way to do fire, or ice, strike at the other ones respectively. And that was without a doubt Magic Missile... I forgot the ice ones can do that..."

Gortok analyses the situation as the solder that he is. Looking from fire to ice, he snarls at the creatures as his mind works out his strategy. Taking a moment to glance at his companions, Gortok recognizes the look on the Warblade’s face and quickly springs into action. Guessing that Azz was about to charge one of the ice creatures, Gortok immediately chants the words to the prayer of protection that he had prepared. As the prayer ends, Gortok puts his hand on Azz just as the Warblade start’s his charge, “Hextor favors you!”
OOCHolds current position is G9. Casts Resist Energy (Cold) on Azz. Gortok acts before Azz so this spell should be in effect before he attacks the Ice Mephit.

Illyssa stumbled backwards a bit from the shock of the hit. In shock, she wondered how a creature like that could hurt her that badly. And her armor hadn't helped her! Perhaps this magic stuff was more potent than she had first realized. Maybe it would do her well to learn some, if she could.

Still, it couldn't do much damage if she killed it, now, could it? Dropping her longbow, she charged forward, whipping out her bastard sword as she did so. "You're gonna pay for that, you ball of slime!" Whipping her sword around, she smashed it into the creature, the blade biting deep into its frigid skin.

Illyssa charges towards the north west corner, slicing into the mephit there.

Gortok quickly casts a spell on Azzkikur to protect him from the elements of cold.

Right afterwards, the brute that is Azzkikur charges off towards the other ice mephit. His trident spears the creature and brings it down to the ground with ease.

Onju is able to deduce that the spell was indeed magic missile, but his thoughts seem distracted as his attack flies wide.

The fire mephits almost seem to smile in glee as their patience paid off. They both head towards the more dangerous fighter in the group, Azzkikur, and both shoot forth from their hands a fiery ray. Azz is able to see one coming, but the other burns right into his back moments later.

Illyssa's opponent steps back and draws into the icy air around it. A chilling breath is sent forth at Illyssa, shivers being sent down her spine as the frost starts to bite into her skin, starting to freeze her alive.

The red areas are fires. Everyone standing inside a red field takes 5 fire damage per round, if you simply walk through a red square without stopping in one you take 2 damage per square, reflex save DC 15 to negate.

The blue squares are cold and windy areas. The temperature there is freezing, but not as cold as it has to be to hurt someone standing on such a square. One square counts as double the movement due to the icy patches. Projectile weapons shot through such a square have a 50% miss chance, 20% if the target stands in a blue square but the projectile doesn't cross any other blue square. Thrown weapon miss chances depend on size category and will be announced if requested.

Description of Arena: Concrete, with elemental changes in each corner.

Here is what I need for you to include in your first post:

Public: Position, a description of your pre-fight action and visibly worn or carried gear. You may start in any square.

Private: Initiative, HP, AC, pre-fight action, gear and any special feats that might come into play, such as Dodge, Mobility, and so on.


Well organized and descriptive posts will earn you up to 10% bonus XP. Good roleplaying will also net up to an additional 10%. Not consistently posting within 36 hrs may cost you a penalty to XP. Saturday and Sunday are excluded from this requirement.

The ice cold breath of the creature stung her skin, but Illyssa managed to duck out of the way before it froze her eyes shut. Stepping forward, she swung her sword again as hard as she could, but this time the blade failed to penetrate the creature's skin. Incensed, she prepared for another strike. She would down this creature now if it was the last thing she did. Hoping it wouldn't go that far, though, she prepared to dodge whatever the creature threw at her next.
