Currency, Time and Seasons
Currency: A standard of currency is upheld by a conglomerate of bankers that stretch the entire continent of Teldor. Though the markings of each coin may be different their weight is controlled by standards laid down by the bank of issue. Every bank that is allowed to mint coinage has to be certified by the conglomerate at large and is required to adopt the coinage standards. In this way a copper piece can travel the width and breadth of the continent and be accepted any where. The following denominations are standard the world over. Listed from lowest to highest value: copper piece (CP), silver piece (SP), gold piece (GP), and platinum piece. Large amounts of platinum pieces are not readily available or accepted at most locales. Persons of wealth who could count their fortunes in 100's of PP usually carry around "Notes of Worth" which are issued by the banks. These notes are usually worth any where from 100 GP to 1000 GP and can be cashed in virtually anywhere. The notes, as they are usually called, are magically imbued strips of parchment that cannot be tampered with, destroyed, or effectively counterfeited. Just about every town will have an agent of the bank and merchants happily accept notes as payment for goods.
__________________Current exchange rate: 10 CP = 1 SP 10 SP = 1 GP 10 GP = 1 PP Time: Days are 24 hours in length, hours are 60 minutes long, minutes are 60 seconds long, and a second is defined as the average time it takes an adult elladrin's heart to make one beat. Time was originally standardized by the elladrin and has been adopted by the other races as the world wide standard. A year on Teldor lasts approximately 360 days with a leap-day added in every six years to keep the seasons synced with the calendar. There are 12 months in each year, 3 for each season. Each month is 30 days long and is comprised of three 10 day weeks. The seasons and month each have correlations with the gods in the pantheon. Winter: Associated with the gods Ioun, and The Raven Queen. Spring: Associated with the gods Avandra, Corellon, and Erathis. Summer: Associated with the gods Bahamut, Pelor, and Moradin. Autumn: Associated with the gods Kord, Sehanine, and Melora. The months in order (first to last) are: Mag (to honor the primal force that is magic), Rav (the heart of winter symbolizing The Raven Queen), Io (a time to reflect and gain knowledge in honor of Ioun), Ava (symbolizes the renewal of life honors Avandra), Cor (height of spring honors the god of spring Corellon), Era (honors Erathis), Baha (honors Bahamut), Pel (middle of summer honors Pelor), Mel (symbolizes the slow changes nature makes from summer to autumn, honors Melora), Seha (Middle of autumn honors Sehanine), and Kor (symbolizes the tempestuous change from autumn to winter, honors Kord). The date we begin or campaign would be written as follows 1 Ava 3, 1079 FD. translated it means that it is the first week of Ava, 3rd day of said week in the year 1079 FD (which is derived from the point at which scholars agree that the Fey/Draconic war ended). |
