Uhh Haidr? I was gonna ask, could I get another reroll? I rerolled a one into a two which effectively does nothing, and I rerolled two 2s into ones, which lowers that score to 7.

Well you drop the lowest so if you roll a 2 into a 1 you can drop the 1 instead. I think your scores are good, having one score lower than 9 should not be a problem, each character has it's weaknesses.

But the problem was that I rolled 2 2s from the same set both into 1s, dropping the score from 8 to 7. Also, that other reroll didn't do anything, effectively becoming useless in itself. And as a grey elf, I kinda gotta sacrifice a lot, seeing as how I take a -2 to both strength and constitution. I mean my wizard's spellbook is 20% of all I can carry assuming I use the second reroll to put a 10 into strength.
__________________I assigned the second reroll stats as follows: Str - 8 (originally 10) Dex - 17 (originally 15) Con- 12 (originally 14) Int - 19 (originally 17) Wis - 13 Cha - 15 If I don't get the second reroll (which means I may as well have not rerolled at all), my scores are 7, 15, 10, 17, 13, 15 Str - 5 (originally 7 - can't carry even the essentials) Dex - 15 (originally 13, see below) Con - 13 (originally 15 - had to sacrifice a higher number so my horrible hit die at least gets a bonus to it) Int - 19 (originally 17, have to keep this stat the same) Wis - 10 Cha - 15 I mean that horrible reroll the first time made my character take a - 3 to strength, effectively meaning he can carry 16 pounds of equipment. 16. A spellbook, component pouch, and regular clothes wiegh 15 pounds. That literally means in order for him to adventure he has to sacrifice 10 feet of movement, making him a target in battle, having all the movement of breastplate and none of the armor. He'd have to waste a Mount spell (awful spell at that - limitted spells in book) just to move with the party. If that 7 goes into dexterity, the awful wizard takes a -2 to his AC of 10, making it 8. Effectively, he could take 1 hit before dying. Same goes for constitution. Intelligence isn't an option, so that awful 7 could go into wisdom (making his good will save effectively a bad save, not to mention blinding his seach, spot, and listen checks), or charisma. Sure, charisma could suffer. It's only bluff and diplomacy right? But, if his charisma is awful then roleplay-wise, I couldn't honestly make him an enjoyable character to play with. I mean 7 is worse than point buy, I figured why use a reroll if it effectively does nothing? On second thought, I will use that first stat set. As they say, don't get mad, get even. Hehehehe, I have a plan to put that '7' to use. Heheh, hahaha, MWAHAHAHAAHAHAAAAA!!! *ahem* So anyways, I have a nice reaction to such a bad score, and if I must use it then I will roleplay it and mechanize it to its fullest extent. You will all know and fear the might of Valandil the Summoner! Wait, do I have the choice of whether or not I can take the 7 or the 8? Last edited by Theomniadept; 05-25-2009 at 12:33 PM. |

You gotta be kidding me. Everyone else gets awesome scores and I can't even get a decent reroll...
__________________By the way, when the DM says standerd gold does he mean the chart on page 111 of the player's handbook? Cuz I'm pretty sure he means that, but does he mean the average value next to the dice you're supposed to roll for gold? Does that mean my wizard has 75 gp (curse that 100 gp per spell cost...)? __________________For starting gold, usually if it is standard you have the choice of rolling or of taking average. A wizard is not suppose to have enough money for extra spells at first level, jsut like a fighter can't get a Masterwork weapon. Last edited by DareTheRogue; 05-25-2009 at 04:31 PM. |

In all honesty for roleplay purpose if your character is "quite aloof" the a low wisdom would make sense kinda...

I've settled on alterred stats of:
__________________Str - 11 (not adding to this, not considerring any melee) Dex - 17 (gonna add one point to get another point in AC) Con - 13 (considerring adding a point to this too...) Int- 19 (At least my spells will be impregnable) Wis - 10 (yeah, I got a good will save, this can sit still) Cha - 8 (I'm not accepting 7 - a negative 2 is just ridiculous, and I had to reroll two 2s into ones to mess that up, damn that dice roller) In my description Valandil has silver-rimmed glasses, so I took the flaw murky-eyed and the trait absent-minded. I forbade the schools of evocation and enchantment, and my 2 feats are spell focus in conjuration and augment summoning. And, just so I could speak to the summoned creatures, I spent 6 skill points to learn celestial abyssal, and infernal. My character is officially ready, and I already have some feats planned to take and I've planned on adding the 4th, 8th, and 12th ability points to int, dex, and con, respectively, pending lack of death. I hate to say this, I really do. But...has anyone else noticed this game is officially called "Tumoil in Ternechtia"? Read those words in the quotes. Now again. I didn't mispell that - the DnDOG staff must've messed up the game name. Last edited by Theomniadept; 05-25-2009 at 05:36 PM. |

Ahem. Before I do anything, what is the deal with the LA's? Do we roll to level one like everyone else, or what? (never played a LA in a level 1 campaign.)
__________________Other than that, can I have a masterwork scythe, and nothing else? (considering thats taking away armor and everything else a fighter would normally have.) Anyway, rolling stats now. |

Standard gold means roll or take average. Same goes for HP (though that matters when you reach level 2).
__________________Theomniadept: You choose to reroll two dice in the same set, so you have to face that you had bad luck this time and ended up worse. There is no shame at all in playing a character with one bad score, makes roleplaying all the more fun. The rest of your scores are great, so that makes up for a great deal. There should be rules in Unearthed Arcana for buying off LA, I will look them up tomorrow. But basically you start as a first level character and will be a little stronger than those that do not have a race with LA, but later you will trade in a level for that LA and dont go up a level while the other players will, so around level 2 or 3 (dont remember which) it will balance out. Just remember that we will be mainly roleplaying in this game, and less roll playing, so we do not need to have fully optimized 1st level characters (lol). I will start the game tomorrow, so make sure you have what you need to roleplay your character. Character sheets should be ready friday or sunday at the latest. |

Oh OK, cool. I use the LA buyoff whenever possibnle, I just did that with a goliath rogue recently. As for role play, TECHNICALLY I am ready, even without allocating scores, as loong as you dont require diplomacy on general chatter. Will have my sheet done by tomorrow hopefully, or today if things go well.
__________________About the scythe? I can't be bothered with rolling for it, and I dont care even if I would roll higher. It would fit my story better to have a scythe that wont go blunt after too many uses. I dont mind about other supplies, I probably left without even food, because I saw an opnening at a bad time or whatever... Needless t say I haven't been "free" long and am probabnly being hunted, so this adventure is interesting to me, equipped or not =P. (Its an over sized scythe (large) regardless, I forget if theres a price change for a bigger weapon) |
