He continues to help bury the bear as he inquires to the group in general. "Do you think it wise to camp here, rats don't often stray from their nests, therefore it can be concluded that there maybe a nest near here" |

Hearing talk of zombies and the undead perks Derran's interest. He decides to help out with the burying of the carcasses, slowly walking over to where everyone was digging. It looks to be a dirty job, however, so instead, he goes to help Gladys with the tents. The elf doesn't mind getting dirty in the heat of battle, but being one who rarely lifted anything other than his holy symbol deterred him from such things.
__________________Coming into the conversation after S'ol spoke of his knowledge on Angel Trumpets, Derran replies, "I too have heard of them. But they are quite a hassle to find." He gazes across the field, just to see if he could spot any from looking. Then, replying to Nicolas' query, Derran answers, "Well, in general, the only thing we've heard is that there were troublesome snakes that needed to be put down. They were attacking merchants and travelers walking through these parts. However, Gladys is also in need of some help, for she's questing for boar's meat." |

He looks around his feet. " It doesn't look like there are a lot of borrows around. I wonder if something has scared them out of their habitat...or if conditions have made it so that they breed more noticeably than usual. " Nicolas ponders what could happen to make snakes move toward a well traveled path and if he knew of any conditions that may have caused this to be more frequent than usual. He looks to Gladys. " Any particular reason you seek the hide of a boar?" |

Derran quietly chuckles with Nicolas. Lightly, he states, "Indeed, it did seem to be quite a small task for us to fend off a few snakes. I even assumed there would be an army of snakes, rather than just a small group. However, the bear and rats did give us a bit of a surprise."

It is the early evening and the moon is full. You hear crickets. There is a cool breeze blowing through the trees.
__________________Gladys looks over the picture for a moment, thinking that she might have seen it before, then she remembers. "Yes I have seen that plant before. Father showed it to me once when I was little. Not really far from here, if I remember correctly. To the north." She momentarily is lost in thought. A single tear rolls down her cheek and she coughs and shakes her head making her come back from what she was remembering. "Yes, and it glowed when it was in full bloom." Quote:
She continues unpacking the tents. As those who start moving the bear, they will notice that the Dire rat had been feasting on the bears midsection, eating a hole right into the bears stomach. The contents fall out onto the ground when you turn the bear over to move it towards the hole in the ground you have dug. As Derran goes over to look at the bear and to whether or not he was going to help with the moving of the dead animals, he notices that when the contents of the stomach fall to the ground that there are three or four stone shaped blood covered objects. Quote:
The moon is shining brightly overhead after the sun sat in the west. It was full. The natural sound of crickets could be heard which was normal for this time of year. You finally get the tents setup. It took but an hours. So relatively speaking it is now 10pm. You are still moving the bear, and rats to the hole to be buried as not to attract other scavengers in the woods. After the battle has died down and you have a moment to collect yourselves you will realize that the snakeswarm was chasing the bear. Not uncharacteristic if the bear stumbled upon their nest. The rats out to satisfy their hunger followed the smell of blood. Last edited by Bizelplyx; 07-10-2009 at 11:00 PM. Reason: corrected the word next to be nest. |

Hikio laid his digging tool down to the ground. He had finished digging the hole "Alright is it good enough?" He asked sitting down to try to cool down "At least they are getting buried. Or else I'd go insane."

Acanthas finishes weaving the grass and smiles as he looks over his creation - a small cup. Now to see if it works as well as I hope. He reaches behind him for his pack and pulls out his water skin and pours himself some of the contents into the grass cup. The tight weave holds the bulk of the water in, but small quantities seep between the blades. Not bad. I'll have to work on tightening and laying the weave later on, but this will do for now. He drinks the water quickly, not letting anymore seep out.

After pitching the last tent, Derran joins with the group. He enters the conversation, voicing his opinion, "Well, if Hikio wants to help Nicolas find his flower, then I think it would be best if the paladin joins too, since he knows a bit about the plant."
__________________The elf winks at Hikio and gives him a thumbs up. "In regards of fire wood," Derran continues, "I will help Acanthas." Lastly, he ends with, "After we head to sleep, I do not mind taking first watch." |

"Well, Gladys, you said yourself that the corpses might attack scavengers... Derran if you take watch, wake me up next and I'll go after you."

Gladys thinks for a moment and then realizes that she may have mistakenly said attack. She laughs at her mistake. "I am sorry if I confused you friend. What I meant to say is attract scavengers. I for the most part hope there is no such thing as zombie rats." She too, gathers her sleeping bag and takes the small tent for herself. She tosses her pack in and spreads out her sleeping bag.
__________________She reemerges to state, "Unless we are going to go after that flower which is around one hundred to two hundred yards north. I suggest we get some sleep. We have a big day ahead of us tomorrow. Killing a couple of wild boar, and your investigation of the snake problem." |

Unfortunately, before Derran realized there were tents in the wagon, he had spread out his bedroll already.
__________________Sighing, the elf walks over to grab the makeshift cloth, but realizes he had seen something earlier within the bear's stomach. Fortunately, the contents spilled onto the ground and were not buried with the carcasses. Derran drops the bed, and walks over to where he last saw the objects. Carefully scanning the ground, he sees four stones, covered in dry blood. "Hmmm... I seem to have found something," he mentions to whoever is still awake. He checks to see if they have any magical qualities to them, but unfortunately, there is no such luck. Perhaps the blood may be a little too thick to sense any aura. |
