The Empress, yes, but what about the Queen? without her song we turn into primal animals, and does being in an extra dimensional space affect it?

Hmm... I thought as long as we could hear the Empress we would be ok. I must have assumed to much.

this is what I've been thinking: The empress is a deity, but a low level one. She's relatively NEW as a deity, but nonetheless still all powerful. But the source of the formian hive mind is the Queen, and she does mystical mumbo-jumbo to tie us together some how to create the hive mind. Closest to the queen it's the strongest, and slowly fades. The queen can only link formian together within a fifty mile radius of herself, or formian that can link to another formain that she can reach. Its possible for a formian to survive without a queen, but only under very specific circumstances.

So yeah, thats what i've figured.

Holy crap HB, that's a good point (would give RPXP if I could). I didn't even think of that. It might be a DM decision but I think that as spells can't affect her in the extraplanar space her spells can't affect us.

Whats more, that would then mean WE cant travel to other planes unless there is a formian queen THERE ready to link us into the hive mind. So scratch out thoughts of Gate and Extradimensional pockets of space to live in. But still waiting for DM to get back on this.

Hmm, seeing as the queen doesn't have telekenesis I was thinking I could "buy" her a conquered hand of the mage with my starting wealth. Might be useful to have a queen that can interact with her environment. What do you guys think?

hmmm the queen has direct control over workers... So maybe itd be better to save that gold for yourself. But, if you feel its something your character would do, buy a personal item for the queen, then go ahead

Well I wouldn't be buying it, it'd be a part of my collection from when I was working with chaotic alien magic items. It just means I'd loose the starting gold. I probably wouldn't give her that gift though.

Hmmm im not really sure what you have, but my experience is 900 gold is alot... If you cant think of something to spend it on, might as well save it.

how do you have scouts if you cant leave the queen?

As for giving the queen stuff, he hive gets what we find in the way of resources and the queen can "barrow" anything she wants. Keep your gold in my opinion.

Well, if you want MY explanation, formian use slave creatures or clerics tied directly to the Empress. (Since she's a deity, she can bend the rules like that) Or perhaps a seperate larval queen was temporarily brought in then moved somewhere else. Also certain evolutions or mutations probably can function more independantly, so perhaps thats a factor. Third parties probably played a large roll, buying and trading information with outsiders. Most hives wouldnt have scouts in their repertoire: outriders or boarder guards would be a better way to put it instead of scouts.

I think having a Divine rank means she can reach all the formian bound to here. One of the first powers Dieties get in DND is omnicience(sp)

She can, but is she going to? theres also the idea that if formian cant protect their queen, do they deserve to live?

Well, it is a form of protecting her, once she gets to half health rope trick her. If we all die she's screwed anyway but if even one of us survives after the threat is negated then it was worth it.
