Is there a trick I'm not understanding to get my posts above 4? I have posted 5-6 times so far but my posts seems to still be set to 2 and I'm still sporting the yellow name. Yellow is NOT my color!
(EDIT) This one is the 7th I think and it just kicked me to 3....so every few count as one?.... =( Last edited by Brainlis; 04-02-2010 at 02:18 AM. |

I have a question not so much "how things work" and more "why things work that way."
I click on the 'Forgotten Realms' world, select a game (or campaign?) and am looking at a handful of threads/folders. Character threads, dice-rolling threads, game threads (sometimes multiple,) game mechanics threads, OOC threads, et cetera. Why are game threads separated as such? It makes sense to divide things up and make them easier to manage, but what is the reasoning, for example, behind separating dice rolls? (I am in no way questioning the practice, just being curious.) I think understanding this would help me get a better grasp on this site's clockworks. Thanks in advance for any replies. |

In the past, if you edited a post with a dice roll in it, the dice roll would also come up as 'edited', even if one only messed with the text. Separating the dice rolls allowed for people to alter the text of their posts without suspicion of cheating. Some of these games are left over from the old days, sometimes old habits die hard - some people just prefer the 'cleaner' look of a game thread without dice rolls in it.
__________________Either way, posts with dice rolls in them can now be edited without the roll appearing edited, provided the dice roll code in the post is not altered. Last edited by JayRob; 04-05-2010 at 10:28 AM. |

That's certainly a major reason, probably the #1 reason. But there's also the storytelling reason: if the dice rolls are in the same thread as the IC (in-character) posts, it pulls you out of the game you're playing. It's a reminder of the mechanical nature of the game. Separating them into another thread is like putting up the curtain before the Wizard of Oz... most people prefer it that way.

I consider myself a fairly patient person, so this shouldn't bother me too much, but how long should it take for me to get into a solo game once I've applied?

Hi ya all, I have some questions on pictures.
1) How do you get an Image in your post, other then the "Image Link" or the "Attachment"? I have seen several post that have images as part of the post, not in either of the before mentioned options. I have tried several ways, cut/paste, insert in Word and then and copy/paste, none of which worked for me. 2) Is this OK to do, or is it found on? I personally, am very visual, so it helps me with character development (Creation) and can convey a lot of information to DM's and other players. Unfortunately, I cant draw worth poo, so most of the images I use are off the web. 3) I have seen a few Players with "Albums" full of maps, images, etc. how is this created, and is their a requirement to be able to do this, i.e. "Community Supporter" or something else? 4) As for the images themselves, No R rated, PG-13?, no nudity, I get all that. Question is does the site "prefer" owner images only (original property) or is it OK for "Players" (Members) to use "Web" images (99% Drawings) for personal use on the site. This whole topic seems to be a hotbed of conflicting views on the web. Thank you for your help, and I LOVE THIS SITE. its great to be able to get back into D&D and roll playing, plus it's helping me on my writing skills!

1) [img] and attaching are the only ways to get a picture in. If you want an image in the middle of your post, and it is your own picture I would suggest getting a free account on a picture hosting site. There are tons of them out there for free, then you can link using [img].
__________________2) Just make sure that you don't post inappropriate links or pictures per the rules. 3) See (1) 4) People grab images from other places all the time. Just make sure you don't claim an image that is not your own (copyright issues). The best way to do this is to use [img] since it link directly to the image where it is. -me |

The rules jj refers to can be found here, or at the top of the page in the navigation under "Site Rules & Help".

OK, not 100% sure on your answer, so correct me if this is incorrect.
On a post, the only options are "Attachments" (adds a thumbnail of the image - Click to enlarge) or "Insert Image" (add a link in the post - click to enlarge). As for the "album" here is an example of what I was talking about Still_Pond Thanks for the response. |
