But she didn't have anything to change into, and buying another dress might make her even later than she already was... but it seemed like she wouldn't have a choice if her newfound rival didn't go down fast. Getting up, Kaori dashed and jumped onto the roof of the house the second ninja had retreated into. Dice Jump:
If she makes the jump, Kaori crouches on the section of rooftop overlooking the balcony and attempts to peer down into it's doorway without being spotted.

You make the jump easily, landing almost 10 feet deep. You stop yourself quietly, and sneak to the edges. Attempting to peer lets you see very little due to the angle, but atleast the doorway is open, and half of it is covered with a thick curtain.
__________________The design of the railing and cleanliness tells you this residence probably is of medium income. You smell a hint of flavored smoke, almost certainty from a shisha machine or some rolled sticks of tobacco. The drop would be easy (no roll), but not making noise, you worry about that. As you are contemplating your actions, you hear obvious footsteps approaching the balcony. A young girl comes out(!!!), sweeping the room's dust out the balcony to the streets below.

Kaori whipped her head back up before the servant had the chance to even consider looking up, obviously shocked by the knowledge the building actually had occupants.
WHAT?! There were actually people in the house?! How was she going to catch up with that other ninja now if she couldn't even reach the first floor?! Of course one little maid wouldn't pose much of a threat, but there was not telling how many others there were to start an alarm. The ninja rested her forehead on her head, overwhelmed by how horribly the mission was going. She didn't doubt for a second that this was by far her worst performance ever. She had no choice at this point: she had to begin heading for the party and hopefully find a way to change outfits and make-up to dispel whatever intel the enemy had on her. At least she knew that somebody dangerous wanted to keep her target alive. Too bad for them she also happened to be dangerous. It just didn't show right now was all. And so Kaori began to silently scramble to the other side of the building (any facing away from the mainstreet as well as any windows from adjacent building) and attempted to climb back onto the ground. This was getting embarrassing.

You silently scramble off the top of the building and start moving away to get some distance. As you scurry away in the most elegant manner possible, you suddenly feel the need to look behind. As you do, your eyes are drawn into one of the open windows of the house you left, and feel as if the ninja was watching you through the curtains although you see nothing of the sort. You hurry onwards, dusting yourself, and stopping by a closing shop that sells home decorative items, among them a full length mirror you unshamefully use. As you continue walking, the road beneath your feet start to be more well kept, eventually becoming a road paved with flat stones that fit together while the houses around you start to rise in beauty and in height. You have reached one of the few upper class districts, known as Money Street. Most of these residences belong to successful merchants and high-level bureaucrats in political or religious organizations, although some upcoming and on-their-way merchants and what not have bought a house here too. You note that servants or guards are posted at many of the front entrances to the mansions here. As you continue walking, you see a black horse-drawn carriage coming up behind you. It starts to slow down as it come alongside you...

Ugh, what now? Kaori kept to herself as the carriage was drawing close, making a point to stop and take a step back as if giving it room that it would of lacked otherwise. Getting out of people's way was apparently the polite thing to do, but Kaori suspected people only ever did it to avoid getting their clothes dirty.
If it was a commercial carriage, she could take it and avoid walking the rest of the way to the party. If somebody inside wanted to talk to her for whatever reason, they'd have the chance to. If someone inside wanted to kill her, they were stupid and she would make it a point to castrate them before finishing them off.

The carriage slows down as it draws up to you, a quick whoah, and all came to a standstill. For a moment there is a suspended pause, as the labored breathing of the two horses and the straight-backed driver staring straight creates a pregnant pause.
__________________The window slides open, and out pops a colorful head, heavily make-uped, smiling at you. Lillandra Bard! DaRRRRRRling! What in the world are you doing, walking? Alone no less. And in a crumpled dress! she exclaims, taking in the odd wrinkles here and a scruff or two there.

Kaori had to restrain herself from sighing of relief at the sight of Lillandra. She should of known the actress would of gotten herself a carriage by now.
"Not all of us have the means to afford a private carriage ride, Daaaaaarling!" The ninja replied in an overly womanly enthusiastic way. "And this dress was just fine when I bought it, I just had a nasty fall after some ruffian bumped into me! Can you believe he simply ran off without apologizing?! What gall! And on the day where I'm supposed to go to this gala-!" Was... Lillandra also going to the gala? She certainly had the connections to make it possible... here's hoping she wasn't too attached to the shopkeeper that needed to be exterminated. "Don't tell me you were going to the party without even telling me about it!" Kaori added teasingly with a flick of her fan.

But my dear, she exclaimed and suddenly leaned forward and in a loud whisper you are not... well the usual kind of person one associates with a ballroom. She winks as she draws back and open the door.

"Well, if you insist-!" Kaori smiled thankfully as she got in, unable to fight the feeling that her ninja friend was probably still watching her. If it wouldn't of been this carriage he would have seen her continue walking by foot none the less, so in the end, it didn't change much.
"Lillandra darling, you're a life saver!" the undercover ninja continued her dainty act, only now beginning to pay attention to any other passengers this carriage may be holding. "I tell you, the ONE day I tell myself I don't need a ride and all these mishaps spring forward! But you know me, as soon as I hear the word 'party'! My dress isn't TOO crumpled, is it?! Oh dear..."

Howlee is such a dear, she says of her driver. Hes a halfling you know (much to your surprise), just a very large one that came from a clan that prides it self in its.... racial purity. They think he is a Half-Halfling, although he says otherwise. Talk to him later, he can provide good transportation services about the city at literally the snap of a finger. So, now... tell me. What exactly are YOU doing going to the party? Pray tell you arn't going to do some dirty business now are you? She asks eyes growing larger at the thought of what you may be planning to do, almost certainty exegerated in her mind.

If anyone was snooping in on them at the moment they must be having a riot. Or feeling very, very dirty.

She giggles, although you see she doesnt take her watchful eyes off you.
__________________You sense that she is still nervous around you, worried you would one day change your mind about her. The carriage comes to a stop outside some impressive gates. Flanking the main entrance is two guards, and three servants, two of which are already attending other carriages who are disembarking distinguished looking guests. Oh well, here we are. Shall we? I do hope to get seated next to Master Donaville. Hes a big man in production you know. Did that beautiful and energetic show 'Dogs'. She starts rambling about theatre and performing arts... The hall is rather impressive looking building, two stories with a large empty open air center.
