The next few days pass much the same, each person passing the hours to his own preference. Thoughts of giant golden rocks floating down cold mountain streams and into the pockets of those brash enough to seek them fill the daydreams of some. A memory of a lost loved one embracing tightly the neck and face with sweet kisses and words fill others.
A rumor of potential trouble ahead starts murmuring down the ranks of magoneers, words like bandits and shanghai are used. Whatever the cause it would be best to tighten up and be more cautious. "Let's have some'un set up ere with me, and keep watch with the scatter gun." Crusty Bill half suggests and half demands as the new day begins. The mules seem tense from the pervasive tension hanging in the air. The outriders that were hired for security are making steady loops about the wagon train, perhaps the wagon drivers suggestion should be heeded... |

Ernesto volunteers to sit with Bill with his shotgun.

Blue Eyes eyes the horizon. A fair distance from the caravan, she sits on her horse on a high ridge overlooking the land ahead. Her blue eyes scan for signs of danger. Though she said nothing of it, Blue Eyes, too, sensed the tension in the air. Her rifle rested comfortably in her hands.

Bandits! Bloody 'ell! Wally thinks as he begins to scan the surrounding area for any sign of them.
Part of him was thrilled at the prospect of bandits attacking the wagon train. He had never been in a gunfight, and never shot a man, and he welcomed the chance to prove his mettle. He could still hear his fathers words etched into his memory, the first time he had mentioned traveling to the west to his father. To the west, are you, you bloody daft boy! You think your going to have a grand old adventure out there don't you, well all that's going to happen is you'll get yourself shot! Your no gunslinger boy, just a spoiled prat with stupid little dreams! His ears grew red at the thought of his fathers drunken ramblings, it was both embarrassing and infuriating at once. I will prove that drunken old ninny wrong. He was wrong! He's too busy killing himself with the drink to see that his son is a man now. Wally checked his weapons one more time, then said. Never you mind Mr.Crusty, we'll teach any potential bandit's a right good lesson, we will! Last edited by Peter172; 03-16-2010 at 03:00 PM. |

Jay Jay rubs away some sleep from his eyes as he looks about. He heard of the potential danger from the nearby wagon but he didn't pay much heed to it until the others in his own wagon started getting jittery. He watches as the Mexican hops into the front of the wagon with Crusty Bill and carrying a shotgun. "Won't do no good unless they're close," Jay Jay remarks to himself as he begins to shift his body to a more suitable, and comfortable, position. He tries to look out into the distance but can't see anything through the glare of the sun and the dancing of the sand, although his ears hear a fair bit. Jay Jay keeps a hold of his Henry Rifle all the same, for he would not be surprised if this large of a caravan were to be attacked by bandits.

Perhaps he had stayed under the cover of the wagon for too long, for eyes squinted in the harsh light. He pulled his rifle out of its leather casing, and loaded a shell into the gun. The horizon was bright, and he couldn't see farther then a hundred yards or so from the caravan

Around noon the wagon train slows down, as the drivers take their lunch. The Outriders sit in the saddle, shewing jerky and the like. The serene valley that the Overland trail is passing through is suddenly filled with whoops and hollers from the ridge. A large group of mounted men silhouette the hill, then charge down upon the middle of the wagon train, your own wagon happens to reside in that exact position.
The platoon of marauders thunders down upon you, you have only moments to ready yourself for the charge. |

From her place on a nearby hillock, Blue Eyes watches as the marauders appear over the ridge. She instantly drops to the ground and readies her rifle, crouching and taking careful aim at any of the attackers. Her breath slows and her blue eyes narrow. She squeezes the trigger.

Here we are then, time to prove father wrong! Wally's rifle leaps into his hands, he takes aim quickly, maybe a little too quickly, and fires off a shot at a particularly nasty looking bloke, with a red bandanna hiding all but his beady eyes.
The rifle bucks in his hands and slams into his shoulder, the recoil was more than he expected, since the majority of his practice with weapons had been with pistols. The rifle, he realized, was now useless, so he dropped it on the floor of the wagon and went for his colt. He would have to wait until they were a bit closer now, he just hoped they would get close enough, he was itching to try out his fancy new shooter . |

Jay Jay had been one of the first to react to the surprise attack. While he didn't initially hear them approach, he was quick to react as soon as the marauders reared their ugly faces. Jay Jay slings his shoulder up into a more comfortable position and even continues to chew the piece of jerky in his mouth all the while. He moves behind the wagon he had been traveling in, raises his rifle to his shoulder, and lets loose a fairly-decent shot into the mass of approaching marauders. "Get as many as you can before they hit us!" Jay Jay roars in a commanding voice, his military training appearing to show its face once again. "You don't want to be out-numbered in a place like this!"

In, out.
__________________Lucky breathed slowly, his eyes adjusting to the light in time to see the thundering mass of shadows. He could hear the whooping of voices and the zinging of bullets. The acrid smell of gunpowder touched his nose as volleys were fired from both side. In,out. He raised his rifle, staring down the iron points. His vision blurred and focused, the shadows were crisper now, closer. His finger pushed ever so slightly against the trigger, the gun's butt pressed firmly against the crook of his shoulder. In,out....bang |

Hmm...men with death wishes. Ernesto hops down from the wagon and takes aim with Bill's shotgun. He waits till the marauders are in range and pulls the trigger(s).

Round 1
The hard charging riders whoop and fire into the group, dismounting on the run and attempting to assault quickly to gather loot and retreat.
The resounding return fire of your companions firearms find deadly purchase. One man is cut nearly in half from Jay Jay's rifle shot, the right side of his stomach disappears and the resulting gush of blood and innards slams into the ground seconds before the lifeless form does. One snagged toothed man attempts to jump up into the drivers seat, he kicks Crusty Bill in the face knocking the man to the ground violently. He misses the double barrel shotgun wielded by Ernesto mere inches from his head however, and is blown back to the ground with less face than he had moments before. Lucky takes careful aim at a bandit attempting to enter the back of the wagon, and blows the man out of his boots with an exhale of calm breath. "Marty! You killed mah brudda you snake eyed devil. I'm a gonna keeeel you!" a young man barely out of his teens screams at you as you unload on the other man. Wally quickdraws down on a group of three bandits that are more carefully approaching, and sprays shot over the riders heads. They return fire in unison, and Wally feels searing pain then numbness as he slumps to the ground dropping his weapon. "Take that ya lily liveried wagoneer" a trail dirt caked bandit whoops as Wally is mortally wounded. A pained glance down finds red blooms sprouting on his well made shirt, and he passes into unconsciousness. Blue eyes carefully picks her target from a grass hillock, seeing Wally gunned down she aims at the closest of the three riders. She feels the kick of the rifle against her shoulder, and one of the riders drops with a hole in his shoulder. He thrashes on the ground, the other two search behind them for the puff of smoke that gives away her position. They look ready to wheel and ride down upon her at any moment. The rest of the wagon train reacts, they start circling back towards the point of attack. A few Outriders can be seen galloping to aid as well, they are far enough away that if things don't change the ten or so riders left alive may slaughter you all and make off with your belongings without engaging the rest of the wagon train or the Outriders. |

Blue Eyes' heart begins to race, but she takes a deep breath to keep her hands from shaking. The riders can only reach her if they're alive. Staying motionless and low to the ground, she carefully aims at one of the riders who even now starts toward her position.
