Hi all and welcome to the game!

As stated in the opening post, mountainbound and I are going to be partners in this initiative. He's taking first shift as storyteller, and I'm going to throw an extra PC into the group (probably a human wilder; comments on the build will be much appreciated, as this particular mix of theme / gaming system / modified psionics is new to all of us). When we finish the first module, and mb and I will figure what to do with the extra PC.

When rolling up your characters, take a look at the house rules. There is a modified hit points rule (max at first level, then use that rule).

Since experience is completely arbitrary in my experience with PBP, let's use the 'medium' rate of progression because of the nice round numbers. That means you are all starting with 5000 xp.

Having read through the House Rules, I would like to respectfully submit that in accordance to this:

Quote:
# Each player should maintain information at the top of the notes section of their character sheet containing some default combat actions for the case that they fall behind and combat must proceed.
# If a player has not posted for over a day and is in a group combat situation where others posted promptly and are waiting for him/her to post, his/her PC will be NPC'd for the round, using their default actions if appropriate.
That Big'un's default action in 99.9% of combat situations is going to be hit the nearest bad guy with whatever happens to be at hand. Usually that will be the weapon he currently is wielding, but it might revert to chairs, brooms or people if necessary.

By the way, it's freakin' great to be here! I've never gamed with Birched before, and think it's awesome to have the opportunity, and I know that mountainbound is going to be an excellent DM. Look at me, I'm all aquiver* with anticipation.

Question about starting funds. You'll start with normal funds for a 3rd level PC. See Equipping a Character in the Dark Sun rules guide and don't forget to convert your money over to ceramic pieces! It's a pretty interesting little section (page 111).

Note, gold is so rare on Athas that there is no equivalent in the player's handbook.

EDIT: Remember when making your purchases that magic is extremely rare... each of you knows that magic is the reason why your world is in the dire state it's in, and you would not be so inclined to use magical equipment. Psionic items, on the other hand, are more common.

Please add the following skills to your character sheets:
Autohypnosis (Wis), Knowledge: Psionics (Int), Psicraft (Int), Use Psionic Device (Cha)

Also, I noticed that spellcraft is listed as a class skill for some of the rewritten psionic classes, and psicraft is omitted. Please add psicraft and remove spellcraft.

EDIT: Also note that all of the above listed skills are 'trained only'.

May I request that any secret information for the DM, if it must be put in the game thread, please be put behind a spoilerbutton so I don't read it without realizing it's not directed to me?

Cheers and thanks.

Hi, all. Happy to be here. Haven't done psionics since 2E, though, so you'll have to bear with me

Edit to add... boy, that 19 point buy is a weird one. I'm currently stuck with THREE odd scores.

Good point, thanks Chuck.

I'm also happy to be here. I used to DM Dark Sun back when it first came out for a tabletop group (no choice there). Will be interested to go back to this setting and check things out.

Just wish I didn't toss all the old modules...

Is there a character sheet on this site that does psionics?

The Pathfinder one is the best one to use. What are you looking for that's not on the sheet? A spot to track power points and the four missing skills is all that I've needed so far that I didn't find.

You'll probably not find a perfect sheet anywhere, since psionics hasn't been officially introduced to Pathfinder by anyone (I think even dreamscarred still hasn't published their handbook.)

Yep, I was just hoping to find a spot for power points. No big deal.

I was going through an old notebook I found and int eh back were a lot of notes I had from the last time I played Dark Sun. Had to be close to 15 years ago.

Odd scores are ok. Note that in Pathfinder, int changes are retroactive. Also, personally, I never saw the point in limiting people to odd stat change enhancements with magic items -- the rules are certainly there for the others to exist, and as far as I'm concerned, the only reason they don't is to save space in tables in rulebooks.

Re. psionics in 3.5: be careful about things that rely on 'psionic focus' -- in many ways it is a 'once per encounter' mechanic (although there is one feat that seems to let you get around that if you have a 13+ Wis score, and a psicrystal can make it 2x per encounter). I will admit, though, that I'm not at all well versed in optimizing psionic characters (which I'm sure will be apparent once my own character sheet is finished).

There is a feat that allows you to Focus as a Move Action instead of a Standard Action. You can also transfer your focus to a Psicrystal, which you can expend as your own. The best you can get is 2 focuses at once, and once you use up the one in your crystal I don't think you can feasibly put it back in until after the fight. The Move Action focus though is useful for feats like Deep Impact when fighting critters with lots of armor.
