Seeing Centripus heading for the wizard again, he considered heading him off, or at least offering some relief; but Anders seemed to be getting intrested in the questions, against the odds, and a discussion of ways and means of practice wasn't something he intended to get into, so he fell in next to bard again. Is it odd that I'm walking with the bard to avoid discussing my past? "You're looking like you've had a rough night. I take it that all this wilderness between us and our goal isn't agreeing with you. I wore right through my soles getting to Gast, and I'm a halfling..." Severious glances at Centripus,"I knew i heard something, during watch! I would suggest that we be careful as this screams trap to me. If it is not we need to find him." Sev takes along time to do a good search of the area.

As the early morning comes to a close, Sev finally finds the tracks that Ranin presumably left behind. They lead back down the road towards Port Gast. While searching the camp for tracks and other such clues, your eyes are drawn to the set of tracks that Ranin lead you to before he left. Upon further inspection, Sev is able to decipher the tracks of nine goblins and a human heading into the mountains.

The others waited impatiently for Severious for over an hour. When Sev was finally done he strolled over to the others, " The mystery of the missing treasurer has been solved. What we have here is nine goblins and a human walking into the Mountain Ridge. I presume the Man is none other then Nair Riloon. Since we have daylight in our favor, I propose that we follow the tracks moving as quickly and silently as we can." Severious' voice was incredibly excited, and slightly overzealous. It was clear to the group that this was the most fun Severious had in years. Every since they left Gast, Severious was focused, to the point, and some what demanding. Now He was thrilled, excited, and one hundred percent committed, becuase at this moment Severious became the hunter rather then the prey. The threat of ambush was still present but now he knew the numbers, he knew their direction and it was GO TIME!

Alko doesn't want to dampen Inkskin's enthusiasm, but the monk thinks the halfling should be reined in juuuust a little before they set off. "Nine goblins?" she asks. She makes an exaggerated look around at the party. "That's more than a goblin per man. Or woman." Alko smiles at Paleface, who is looking distinctly under the weather after last night's 'adventure' into a bottle. "And I would bet a tankard - a large one at that - of the finest Duldrusian ale that these goblins aren't just wandering willy-nilly with our dear coin-grubber. There's somewhere they're heading in these mountains." The monk shoots a quick look at the peaks of the Divide. "I say we catch them before they get where they're going, or our job is going to become a lot more...difficult." She had been planning on saying 'interesting,' but the slightly wild look in Inkskin's eyes warned her that perhaps a more negative word would better suit her purpose.

Centripus scratches his head. "Nine of 'em? Why that's more'n we got. I guess we better watch out'n not let them little buggers git us at night. Let's hurry up, then, and git a move on."
He'll walk guardedly along with Anders, sure at any moment that the goblins are going to ambush them and his arcane talents(still completely unverified) won't be enough to stop them. To Centripus, Anders is just a poorly armed, unarmored human who hopefully will survive the first battle. I hope I ain't got to take too many arrows fer him, he thinks to himself. His gauntlet on his left hand, glaive held in the same, and strap of the backpack on his right, he grunts hefting the heavy load and follows the tracks through the forest towards the mountains. Or rather, he follows Severious follow the tracks towards the mountains. "I always did like a good hunt in the hills. Maybe we'll get lucky and catch a bear or somethin'. My grandpa always said bears had the best fur for a cloak." |

Artemis grins, glad to hear the news about the goblins. "Nine, eh? I propose a wager then." He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a few coins, showing them to the others. "Whoever kills more goblins then the others gets a better share of whatever we find with the little pests." He was feeling fairly confident about his fighting ability, but this was mostly a way for him to try and see who among the rest of the group could fight.
Besides, it's not like I'd be losing much. Goblins don't usually have any good treasure anyways. |

"Kill?" Anders asks. He hadn't intended to kill them necessarily. But he could disable a whole bunch with ease. He shrugs. "I'm afraid I won't win that bet. But I can...limit a number of them."

"Limit?" Having stayed out of the discussions of magic so far, he realised he didn't really know what kind of magic Anders cast. Presumably not the fire and lightning kind, then. At least I don't have to worry about being caught in a blast.
__________________"I think the seven of us ought to be a match for nine goblins, even if not all of us are inclined towards a stand up fight. It would be best if we could catch them somewhere narrow, though. Still, onwards. We can't divide up the reward until we've caught them, can we?" |

Hypatia felt the whole world spin slightly in front of her from time to time, but took her focus as Chayim walked by her. At his comment, she pleasantly told him that she was not one to travel in such a manner, and was prone to drink when in need of a distraction. She remained poised and polite, although slightly embarrassed from whatever she had done the night before. Their pleasant discussion was paused in hearing the news of the goblins, which quickly rattled Hypatia, but at the same time invigorated her at the prospect of adventure.
In hearing of the bet, she was tempted to join in, however killing wasn't exactly her strongest suit, but she would learn, or at least hide behind those that have already. The idea of those small disgusting creatures surrounding her, still slithered through her mind, making her insides squirmed. She hoped that when the time came for her to act the heroine, she would fulfill it. |

Anders explains his position clearly, "Yes. Limit. Incapacitate, neutralize, render useless...whatever you want to call it. It serves the same goal of aiding in the rescue of the treasurer, correct? Unless that isn't your goal. I believe setting a goal of killing as many as we can may distract us from the real goal at hand. I'd just as soon not kill one as long as we rescue the man we've come to save." He finishes with a point of his finger down the path. "That said, if we must fight them, pinning them in a narrow confine would serve us well..."

Upon hearing of the goblin-killing wager, Centripus abandons all attempts to learn about magic from Anders and devotes himself solely to digging into his belt pouch for coin.
"Artemis! Why that's the best idea I heard in 'bout forever. I got ten gold here- count 'em, ten! And they says I can kill more gobbers than anybody else. But ye know, 'bout that dis-able arcane thinggie Anders is talkin' bout, it seems to me it ain't quite fair to keep him out of the bet. How 'bout if he use some kinda magic 'ta disable 'em, however that works I can't tell ye, and then he kills 'em when they down, that one counts as his. But if somebody else kills 'em while they down, he gets half." Centripus is so overcome by the sudden, swift genius of Artemis that he hands over the gold before the terms of the bet are even settled. He looks at him with newfound respect and admiration. At Scarface's original offer, Alko's face screws up in what might, on a less beautiful face, be called a condescending sneer. Such juvenile bets... If she was going to participate, she should definitely insist on an odds system: she was sure that the others, largely regarding her as unarmored and unarmed, would drastically underestimate her battle prowess. But for a fistful of coppers and one silver...well, that would only pay for one night's drinks in town. Okay, half of one night's drinks.
But then Handyman ups the ante, and suddenly Alko is all ears. She decides to pitch in to encourage the others. The monk fishes ten gold coins out of her purse, which mysteriously emerges from somewhere under her robes. Holding the coins high, she declares, "Hear, hear! I'll match that bet!" In her excitement, she overlooks the fact that the terms are a little too generous to Babyface, in her opinion. But there is gold (read: many drinks) to be won! Artemis chuckles, resting his crossbow on his shoulder. "This trip has gotten more interesting, I must say." He strides up to Anders, giving a sly grin. "And don't worry mage. I'm not gonna let a silly bet get in the way of the real prize here. This is just to keep the others a bit more cheerful. It never hurts to be careful about that."
The elf then walks up to Sev, probably the only one who has a decent amount of respect from Artemis right now. "So, you think we can get a good enough jump on them now? I still don't like this...They could be expecting people to come after the treasurer and have plenty of traps set up. There's also the chance that they are being used as pawns...If there's a larger evil at work here, we might not make it back to town in one piece" |
