Syavi is becoming an NPC until Taiga is settled enough to play again.
"I will look," Syavi offers, already at the side of the cart. She starts lifting bags of food and clothing out of the way, but she is reluctant to actually remove things and put them on the ground, so she doesn't get a very open view of the cart's entire contents. After about a minute, she replaces the last item on the top of the pile and turns Gerand with a mildly disappointed look.

Furrowing his brow at the discovery that they had no rope, Nehzir nods at Syavi's suggestion. He begins to removing most of his equipment, which was an easy task since the past days were quiet and Nehzir had been traveling them without his armor. Walking up to Syavi, Nehzir holds out his hand to give her a dagger. "Could you use your magic to light this dagger once again? I would hate to climb down only to be submerged in darkness." A weak smile appears on his face, "Again." If the druid is able to cast the spell, Nehzir moves over to the ledge. "Stay up here and watch the cart. I'll go see what I can find." Nehzir grasped at his right hand and with a reassured nod he grasps the dagger tightly in his mouth and begins his descent.

Syavi's mouth spreads into an unbeckoned grin, and she wordlessly accepts the dagger. Quickly she summons a magical glow which attaches to the blade, and then she hands the lit weapon back to Nehzir to watch him descend.
__________________Nehzir takes to the tumbled stones easily, climbing down a dozen feet and then looking out. It is hard to see anything with a light source so close to his eyes. He keeps climbing down, and those above can see his bobbing light reach the bottom and move cautiously. He is probably more than thirty feet down, and though it is harder to see from above the gorge bottom is strewn with rough and apparently broken rocks, making for short-range visibility and difficult navigation. A voice calls out from the far side of the ravine's bottom. Those at the top can hear it, but they do not understand the short phrase shouted, mainly due to the echoes which were probably unanticipated by the shouter. From the probable origin of the voice a light flares up, apparently just a torch. It moves across the broken floor to Nehzir's location.

At a spot a little north of where Nehzir climbed down, two perth and a loda lead Gerand, Syavi, Steodo, and the horsecart to meet Nehzir, who walks beside a short oulman. The man beside Nehzir asks the perth, "Who are these people?" He clearly has authority. The perth look confused, and before the oul can correct himself the loda takes off in Limnish. The perth seem to be following fairly well as the oul and loda carry out a short, increasingly angry conversation. The oul stalks closer, and while the armored loda is holding his ground, he appears to be losing confidence. Suddenly, Steodo gasps. Everyone turns, and the oul stares down the captive. "You speak Limnish?" asks the oul. Steodo nods, clearly angry. The oul slaps his thighs in frustration, looks at Nehzir, and then points at the loda. "This is one of my soldiers," he says. "He did not even find out if his 'captive' was Limnish. "Dismissed for the night!" shouts the oul, facing the loda. The loda turns slowly, a little surprised, a little frustrated, but mostly obedient. He walks away, back up the rock slope into the darkness. "Such a scout would lose a war." Then the leader points at the perth, speaks in Limnish, and points back toward the torchlight from which he originally came. Both perth nod and dash off into the night. Alone with his 'captives,' the oulman introduces himself as Saliak, a drinneid in the army of Anzavis. "That soldier does not represent Anzavis, and he will be punished. I do not want to capture or kill you," he says, looking at Steodo. "I have no reason to believe you are enemies. I can see that you already know each other, which is easy. "Now, I was going to search for the wizard's remains with Nehzir, but with so many of you, I think it is best if I take you back to the camp for the night. My soldiers will continue to search, but I never expected to find anything in the darkness, anyway." That said, Saliak turns around the horsecart and brings everyone back up the slope, heading northwest. He fills in everyone: he is an officer in the Anzavic army, Anzavis is the southernmost city of Liminuol, and Anzavis is marching to war against Neferi, hoping to control the precious northern Ammin coast before resources get too low in southern Liminuol. During the journey, he asks if anyone has further questions, and seems genuinely proud and open about his business. Last edited by Klomag; 10-23-2010 at 11:19 PM. |
