The roundhouse kick aimed at the spider's legs was on target. Alko's foot snapped one of the legs in half, but the spider was able to continue supporting itself with its other seven.
__________________The crossbow clicked as its bolt flew from it and into the spider's head. The bolt nearly shot right through the arachnid's head, but instead it got lodged near the creature's pincers. The spider reared and clicked furiously. The graceful halfling warrior slipped his rapier into the exposed spider's belly, withdrew it, and dived to the side as the spider landed where he had been only a moment ago. While the blow wasn't necessary, the giant Centripus smashed the falling spider, once again spraying spider guts everywhere. Hypatia emerged from the house in a rush, but was still too late to actually be involved in the combat. The sound of the door slamming shut behind Hypatia echoed through the now silent yard. At the yard's edge and directly in front of the five of you was the web-covered and now apparently empty stable. |

Alko rolls away as the others engage the newly-amputated arachnid, careful not to get in the way of the swinging blades and flying projectiles. The monk grins tightly as she watches Furball dispatch the foul creature, but her expression quickly turns to one of panic as the monstrous Handyman raises his warhammer and obliterates the carcass in another shower of bloody, sticky spider...innards. Alko scuttles away towards the house as fast as her hands and feet can carry her, limbs thrashing in crablike movements as she hurries to save her robes from further dirtiness.
__________________The slamming of the house door startles the monk, and she quickly scrambles to her feet, fists at the ready to face any new assailant from the rear. However, it is just Paleface who approaches the stable and the carnage at its entrance. Alko raises a grimy hand in greeting, shouting out, "Hey, Paleface! Ya missed all the fun!" Still pumped up from the heat of battle, the slime-drenched monk still has yet to realize that a crooked spider leg adorns her hair like some exotic -- albeit rather twisted -- ornament. Reacting almost too fast to believe, Chayim flipped backwards to avoid the spray, but he couldn't put himself far enough away to avoid the edge of the splatter. Frowning at the state of his clothes, Chayim carefully picked his way forward into the stable, snagging his suspended axe with one hand while probing dark corners with the point of his sword.
__________________"It seems safe enough now. Blasted creatures; I suppose we should be lucky they hadn't infested the house." Then, with a last undigised glare shot at the hulking Centripus, he turned his attention to the surrounding trees. "Do we know where our land ends? Is it just the cleared area, or are some of the trees ours as well?" |

Disappointed, to miss most of the events that passed outside of the study, Hypatia felt a little saddened of the idea of missing out. This soon faded in seeing Alko smiling with bits of spider all over her, as if apart of some new Orcish style of fashion. Hypatia detested spiders, and certainly would dislike them all over her person more. She cleared her mind and sighed under her breath, oh well...
She looked into the deep recesses of the stable, but could mostly see only cobwebs, dust, and decaying wood in the dim stable. Maybe there was something worth while in there. "Who's up for exploring the stable" she asked somewhat cheerfully. Maybe it would yield better results than the rest of the house. |

"Yes. Well. Might as well see what's there, though I imagine there's a lot of webs involved. They might, in fact be holding the stables up, so one should be careful." Anders says. Of course, with the mega-handyman around, they should be able to manage. Despite his intention to see what's there, Anders is slow to make his way over, as he takes a moment to wipe spidery bits off, using anything available, grass, tree bark, stuff in his pack, and so on.

The house deed reveals that, along with the house, you were granted roughly two miles of land extending every way other than towards the city.
Centripus wades into the mass of sticky threads ahead of the rest of you. Even as he destroys the thin makeshift supports, he lifts his two thick arms to the roof, holding it up as if it were a tent that had been left up a day too long. As the rest of you entered the stable, smaller spiders scuttle into small cracks and crevices that have developed in the stable over time. As you explore the inside of the building, you are forced to step over the bones of both humans and animals lest you trip and fall into a clump of thick, sticky silk. As you move about, your feet touch on solid, not bone shaped objects that scatter the floor. Were you to take a closer look, you would find items left behind by creatures that had been captured in the spider's nest. 1200A large bag of silver coins sits next to a distinctly human skeleton. Another skeleton farther in is also human, and while nearly everything has decomposed, a pair of dirty lenses lie next to his face and a small, round, roughly three inch long stone cylinder sits in the remnants of his hand. |

Alko picks her way through the cobwebs with a delicacy that is rather useless given the current ichor-drenched state of her robes. There is an impressive collection of skeletal remains in the Sorry, I had to do it. :Pnow-unstable stable. "Whoo-ee! These spiders must've been hungry!"

"Hmm. Nice find. Hungry spiders indeed!" Anders says as he picks his way through the webbing, trying not to get anything stuck to his clothing. The lenses draw his attention, and he scoops them up, wondering exactly what they might do. He'd seen similar items back at the Academy used for experimentation of some sort. This seems to be a strange place for something like this though. Anything that allows for better investigation of an object is likely to be useful in Anders' mind, and perhaps these might help solve the mysterious case of the cellar/study/bookshelf, which hasn't quite left his mind despite the distraction that the spiders presented.
__________________Done with his investigation, Anders leaves the "unstables" too, and nods towards Centripus on his way out. "Well done! We shall do this again if you wish." Upon leaving, Anders takes a peek through the lenses... |

Looking up from the deeds at Alko's exclamation, Chayim returns to the stables and, having glanced over her shoulder to see what she had, slipped back inside as Anders stepped out.
__________________Unconcerned by the bones, he quickly sifted through the debris and bits of fallen spider before pulling out the only out of place object that hadn't already been removed. Stepping back out of the unstable structure, he called out; "Hypatia, do you have any idea what this is?" |

Centripus enjoys every moment of his oversized existence, hefting beam and timber of the house and using his girth to explore areas normally off-limits to his normal size.
"Grarr! Spider soup taste bad," he says pinching his nose. "I'd been hopin' ta git somethin' we could eat." Once he shrinks back down to a more reasonable size, Centripus sheathes his weapon and wipes the sweat from his brow. "Say, what 'bout them coins? I've a mind to split 'em up. 'Specially with me special friend here, Anders." With that, Centripus struts his dirty, web-encrusted hide that hasn't seen a bath since before the expedition to Anders, slapping him on the back and embracing him, squeezing him tightly. "That's some mighty fine magic ye got there, sir. I'll be next to ye till I can't swing me hammer no more." A tiny tear comes to his eye, which the big guy is quick to wipe away, leaving a small streak in the grime on his face. |

"That seems like a fair proposal," begins Alko, "but I don't know about Paleface here. She didn't really contribute to bringing down these beasties." The monk turns a stern eye on the bard for a moment before winking playfully. "Only kidding." She deftly sorts the coins into equal shares (in full view of the others) before pocketing her portion.

Ander's eyesight improves markedly as he dons the twin silver rimmed and slightly dirty lenses. He can see the grass, the trees, and even a bird flying overhead in far greater detail than he would have otherwise been able to.
__________________On the second floor, one of the bathrooms seems to have a functioning bathtub. A thick layer of dust is stirred up by Alko's poking around it, but once all of that is cleared off, it reveals a stained white tub large enough to fit nearly a person and a half, or one full Centripus. The water runs slowly at first, but as the long unused faucet continues to flow, the water comes more readily, soon filling the tub for whoever wishes to wash the spider off of them first. |

Delighted to find a functional bathtub, Alko quickly fills the tub and sheds her grimy robes, forgetting to close the door in her haste. Without hesitation, she jumps in with a splash that sends some of the unheated bathwater splashing onto the tiled floor. Stopping her vigorous scouring mid-scrub, the monk realizes that she has left the bathroom door ajar.
__________________"Paleface, be a dear and shut the door for me, won't you?" Alko winks at the bard. "You could join me if you like." ----- Bath done and robes cleaned somewhat of the spider goop, Alko promptly goes outside to sit on the steps and enjoy the Assuming it isn't raining.afternoon weather, working in some calisthenics as the sun sets. Anders cleans himself up, after waiting patiently for Alko to finish her bath. He rinses his robes out with the water and hangs them outside, walking around in a nightgown for the rest of the day. Interested in playing with this new toy (that might be better used by someone else, but no one is likely to be as curious as Anders) he heads back to the study and pokes around before heading underneath it. Once in the basement, he dons his new goggles and starts
