April Community Appreciation Day(s)
Mar 31, 2020 - 7:08 PM - by Birched
April 1 is traditionally a day of foolish pranks and merry making. In light of current events, however, the staff at RPG Crossing has decided to celebrate the day in a different manner. Instead of practical jokes and silly pranks, we want to take the day to celebrate something different: the awesomeness of our community.

That's why we are making April's Fools Day a special day this year. All day long, we are asking that instead of a joke or a prank, you instead give out RPXP "hits" to people, to remind everyone of the good things still happening. You can give RPXP for great game posts, just like always, but we would like you to please go out and spread the good news about anything else as well.

THE PARAMETERS
  1. Our April Community Appreciation Day(s) begins immediately (we know it is March 31, but don't want confusion about 'is this real?') and will go until the morning of April 2.
  2. The point is to send people real and meaningful messages. Please do that!

A Message from the Staff of RPGX:
Mar 16, 2020 - 10:46 PM - by wodine
A message from the staff of RPGX:

My dear RPGX community,

As I am sure you are well aware the world is currently facing the most widespread pandemic in any of our lifetimes (with the exception of my grandmother, who I kid you not, remembers the Spanish flu). I’m sure you’ve seen dozens of news articles, memes, and general nonsense concerning the novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19. We’re not going to belabor the importance of flattening the curve, the significance of social distancing (and let’s be honest we’re an online community so we’re pretty awesome at that anyway), government failures, and we’re not going to try to dissect the psychological machinations of hoarding toilet tissue for a respiratory disease. No, that’s not what you’re here for and that’s not what we’re here to do.

You’re here to game, to write, to read, and to escape. You come here to enjoy the fun that is living in a world of fantasy and magic, or technology and magic, or some combination thereof. Most of us started playing these sorts of games with the same basic premise, “save the princess McGuffin.” Now princess McGuffin is a generic term that could be a town or village or what have you; the point is we started off with the goal of saving people – of being kind and compassionate and having the strength and abilities to overcome whatever problem lay before... February POTM
Mar 12, 2020 - 8:03 PM - by Admin Dirk
February brought a lot of chaos into the world, north and south of the equator. It also brought out a lot of great writing, and nominations. It made for a challenging set of judgements.

But, the judges ignored the chaos, buckled down and did their jobs, and we decided that as tough as it was to choose between some of the best, this month's winner is 4eyedBadger!

You can read the winning entry HERE, and read the other nominations (great in their own way too) here.

Congratulate 4eyedBadger for the well deserved win, and give a little RPXP love to the other nominees too! They all deserve a read, and some reward!

Remember to nominate your favorite post from March in the 2020 competition. Without you, we have no contest!

If you'd like to be an even deeper part of the Post of the Month contest, contact Dirkoth about being a Judge!
Outplay 2020 System Voting is now open
Mar 09, 2020 - 11:19 AM - by Bhelogan
Good morning, RPGCrossing!

It's the time of year again for Outplay, and we are in the thick of the planning stages, reviewing feedback, putting a new exiting story together, and of course, planning some new twists to keep players on their toes for Outplay 2020.

Please take a few moments to help us out, and vote in the poll here.
January POTM
Feb 16, 2020 - 8:03 AM - by Admin Dirk
January, like most of our New Year's Resolutions, has come and gone. Was one of your resolutions to nominate a great post for Post of the Month? We only had a couple in January, but they made for a great read.

The judges deliberated, and decided, and for January, the winning post was from DaysUntold!

Days has been a frequently nominated writer, and you can see why in this post! Full of rich detail and some charming turns of phrase, it's vibrant and well worth the time to read.

You can read the winning entry HERE, and read the other nominations (great in their own way too) here.

Congratulate DaysUntold for the well deserved win, and give a little RPXP love to the other nominees too! They all deserve a read, and some reward!

Remember to nominate your favorite post from February in the 2020 competition. Without you, we have no contest! once more!

Post of the Year (POTY) for 2019
Feb 03, 2020 - 6:50 PM - by Admin Dirk
For the judges the Post of the Month and Post of the Year contests, the end of one year and the beginning of another means we're faced with the fiendishly difficult but immensely enjoyable task of deciding which one stood out above all the others, of choosing which single post represented the best work done on the site for all of 2019. It's kind of double duty, honestly, we have to judge the December winner, and then turn around and begin arguing over the best of the twelve for the year!

That's darn near impossible, of course. Selecting the best from the best is never easy, especially with both Dirk and Squeak in the process, but finally the smarter heads prevailed and a consensus was reached.

Please join the judges in congratulating our Post of the Year winner for 2019 - Karhald

The game thread is private, but you can read Karhald's winning entry HERE.

Karhald's winning post was at least his second nomination in the year, which goes to show that if you don't win the first time, just keep writing! His first nomination was excellent, but lost to a very creative month of solid posts, but Karhald astounded the judges again in a month, with an even more exceptional post in an even harder month of quality postings. But, it shined above the others then, and it continued to shine above the others in our... [Read More]
