January POTM
Feb 16, 2020 - 9:03 AM - by Admin Dirk
January, like most of our New Year's Resolutions, has come and gone. Was one of your resolutions to nominate a great post for Post of the Month? We only had a couple in January, but they made for a great read.

The judges deliberated, and decided, and for January, the winning post was from DaysUntold!

Days has been a frequently nominated writer, and you can see why in this post! Full of rich detail and some charming turns of phrase, it's vibrant and well worth the time to read.

You can read the winning entry HERE, and read the other nominations (great in their own way too) here.

Congratulate DaysUntold for the well deserved win, and give a little RPXP love to the other nominees too! They all deserve a read, and some reward!

Remember to nominate your favorite post from February in the 2020 competition. Without you, we have no contest! once more!

If you'd like to be an even deeper part of the Post of the Month contest, contact Dirkoth about being a Judge!
Post of the Year (POTY) for 2019
Feb 03, 2020 - 7:50 PM - by Admin Dirk
For the judges the Post of the Month and Post of the Year contests, the end of one year and the beginning of another means we're faced with the fiendishly difficult but immensely enjoyable task of deciding which one stood out above all the others, of choosing which single post represented the best work done on the site for all of 2019. It's kind of double duty, honestly, we have to judge the December winner, and then turn around and begin arguing over the best of the twelve for the year!

That's darn near impossible, of course. Selecting the best from the best is never easy, especially with both Dirk and Squeak in the process, but finally the smarter heads prevailed and a consensus was reached.

Please join the judges in congratulating our Post of the Year winner for 2019 - Karhald

The game thread is private, but you can read Karhald's winning entry HERE.

Karhald's winning post was at least his second nomination in the year, which goes to show that if you don't win the first time, just keep writing! His first nomination was excellent, but lost to a very creative month of solid posts, but Karhald astounded the judges again in a month, with an even more exceptional post in an even harder month of quality postings. But, it shined above the others then, and it continued to shine above the others in our... [Read More]
December Post of the Month
Jan 16, 2020 - 9:44 PM - by Admin Dirk
December has come and gone, bringing the holidays with it, and for many, a slow down in time to spend here on the boards, doing our favorite things: Game Posts. But, there was no slow-down in talent in the Post of the Month competition, as the holiday month saw a FIERCE battle between several excellent contenders. In the end, it all came down to the judges, who had to fight and bicker and choose a winner from the pack.

And for December, that winning post was from Jon!

It was a hard call, but the judges appreciated the simplicity of the post, and the understated emotional punch that it packed. It was another death scene (we've had a plethora of those being nominated this year), succinct yet carried it the weight of the scene gravely. The use of repetition didn't win the hearts of all the judges, but many felt it fit the mood, and the character well.

You can read the winning entry HERE, and read the other nominations (great in their own way too) here.

Congratulate Jon for the well deserved win, and give a little RPXP love to the other nominees too! They all deserve a read, and some reward!

Remember to nominate your favorite post from January in the 2020 competition. Without you, we have no contest! And stay tuned for the Post... [Read More]
Community Supporter Wish List Update

Community Supporter Wish List Update!

left-aligned image
I think we can all agree the 'current' wish list is sadly out of date, and I'll be the first to admit it, considering just how long it took me to update it. For those not in the know, we have a list of features the Community Supporters would like to see added to the site. We don't make any promises about if or when these wishes will be granted, but if you've supported the site's operating costs, the least we can do is hear your biggest wish for the site. (This is separate from bug reports and site updates.)

The CS-only wish list's new version, found here has been... [Read More]
Membership and Charity Drive 2019 Wrap Up
Jan 08, 2020 - 11:04 AM - by Birched
Thank you to everyone who participated in RPG Crossing's 8th Annual membership and charity drive to benefit mental health research. With the help of matching funding from a generous donor, our community *smashed* our previous records and raised $3,027 that goes the Brain & Behavior Foundation to support research to improve the lives of those affected by mental illness.

All the prizes have now been handed out (although we'll have a reprise of the Fauster Kent giveaway later this month for those who missed the short deadline), including the bonus months of site membership. If you have any issues or are expecting something that didn't arrive, please let me know.

I want to give a huge thank you to the donors for our prizes, some of whom have now supported this charity drive for multiple years. Pelgrane Press, Evil Hat, Magpie Games, Kobold Press, Chaosium, AAW, Orcs Unlimited, Straight Path Games, Mike Myler and Storm Bunny Studios, Norse Foundry, Steve Curry and Fauster Kent -- you guys are amazing! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

A reminder to reward winners: please review the items you picked up! It makes an important difference to our donors!

Thank you all!

- Mark / Birched

Happy New Year And Best Wishes For 2020!

2019 was a challenging year for many of us, but for me, at least, it ended pretty well. I hope that you, too, spent the final days of the decade in a good place and with good people. Personally, I've been able to spend good time with family (including making some progress on our Curse of Strahd campaign!) and friends. I even managed to meet up with Admin Ronarscorruption for a Pokemon Go excursion that lasted until we were both too cold to continue (this did not take long; it was very cold.) In the past month on site, I spent lots of good time in the welcome threads (thank you to everyone who contributes there, and who runs the NPSGs, where almost every newcomer seems to be directed!), staff threads (that's one dedicated bunch; we are really lucky to have such a great group of people looking out for our community) and elsewhere on the boards. We even did a real time session on the discord "fan site" and made some significant progress on the Starfinder sheet (still in beta and not quite done, but useable and if you look for it you'll find it.) I've not managed to find the time to join any games recently, but perhaps that can be a goal for 2020.
