I got back into playing D&D about 6 months ago after a 12-year hiatus. Even with the all the rules changes since I'd last played it's still essentially the game I remember, and it's still a lot of fun. But lately I've been Jonesin' because the people I was playing with have abandoned D&D for d20 modern, which I'm just not that into. So I'm pretty happy to find a site like this. Hooray for the Internet! I've been looking around and I like the fact that a lot of people seem to put quite a bit of thought into their posts. Hopefully I can make a positive contribution around here. For my part, I was a DM or most of my playing career, but since that was a long time ago I'll certainly stick to playing for the time being. I enjoy a well-told story with a certain verisimilitude and a sense of adventure. I enjoy role playing and problem solving, but intense combat and the spoils that follow are always good, too. I like to play all kinds of characters and I'm willing to try anything once. I was playing a bard until recently and I thought that was pretty fun, as I was able to use his abilities to come up with a lot of creative solutions to problems. Well, I'm off to explore the site a little more and then hopefully I'll get myself into a game. Last edited by Aurex; Jan 27th, 2008 at 02:09 AM. |

Before you are chased away by our exuberant and illustrious meeters and greeters, let me extend our cordial welcome. I just finished posting some drow niceness/evilness and I'm still writing as a room full of scheming arcanists trying to outmanuever each other for the headmaster spot at a reformed school of the Art. Now that's getting into characters.

And now for the scary exuberant greetings.
Hola, Aurex! ..... Uh..... Man! I can't think of anything scary exuberant. This is all your fault, Sec! Welcome to the site. Peace, love, and gaming. ~Nip

Look! It's a staff greetfest!
Sorry, it had to be done. Feel lucky, Aurex! And don't worry, the staff doesn't usually follow new members around like this.... ....At least, not as openly......I don't have stalker in my name for nothing, you know.....

... I'd say something here, but that would require thinking. Hello Aurex! Welcome to DnDOG. Here's some advice to get you started. Advice point 1: Read the Help & FAQ sections before you do much else. They can be found up in the upper right hand corner of the screen, at the little red button labeled "Help." Advice point 2: When you want to join a game, keep in mind that many DMs recruit from the DM's Seeking Players forum, rather than the "Players Seeking DMs" forum. This doesn't mean that you won't get a game out of the second, but your chances of success are higher if you go looking for a game, rather than trusting a game to come looking for you. Advice point 3: The people with red names are site staff. They have occasionally been known to do strange things, including jumping on introduction threads - like I just did. They're generally harmless, except when they post in red. But then again, you read the help section already (see point 1), so you already knew that. Advice point 4: If you, for some reason, don't happen to have access to your books, there is a handy System Reference Document available under the tools section at the top of the screen. Or you can use this one. Advice point 5: If you still have issues with the site after this, you can get technical help here, and if you have questions about the game rules, you can get those answered here. Advice point 6: If you're new to D&D, or just new to Play by Post (PbP), then you can get your feet wet with some experienced members of the site. Go here to sign up for a quick sample game, and go here to see some sample character builds. Advice Point 7: As a website that revolves around posting, reading, and re-reading large quantities of text on a regular basis, we recommend the use of proper spelling and grammar in posts. Is English not your native language? There are a number of online spell-checkers that can be used, and some browsers have this feature built in. Perversions of language, such as leet-speak and chat lingo, are highly discouraged or outright banned. That's about all. Good luck, and good gaming! Jondera Ps: the majority of this message is copy/pasted from various other introduction threads. You have now recieved the Canned Jonderese Newbie Advice Mk. 4.

Welcome Aurex!
Game acceptance can be pretty competetive, and great RP samples can make or break you getting into a game, so yeah, people put a LOT of effort into them... I'm still trying to get an application going... arg....

Greetings Aurex of Something or Other! I am Noghri Sloth the Dashing and Debonaire and God-King of DNDOG...
But what you haven't realized yet about me is this, I FEEL GREAT!!!! Woot! Go activity for making endorphins! You can't play the game if your body can't support it. Here are my... TIPS! 1. Your post counter will not count posts made here, the Advertisements Forum, the Open Roleplaying Forum, and of late the General Discussion Forum. 2. You cannot give or take away RPXP until you get over 50 registered posts. Up until that point you can however still leave comments of approval or disapproval as desired. 3. My fellow Greeters have exuberant scary advice, be scared but heed it foo! Rock on!

Well thanks a lot, guys. It's great to be welcomed by uber-members, a guy who may be Chuck Norris, and an unusually energetic sloth on a neuro-chemical roller coaster ride.
If your not an uber-member, possibly Chuck Norris, or an unusually energetic sloth on a neuro-chemical roller coaster ride, it was merely OK to be welcomed by you. Now I'm 2-for-2 on this thread with the winky guy. |

My avatar is the captain of the ship, none other than...Captain Avatar! He seemed like a logical choice, as I've already stated in the avatar thread in general discussion. I was so proud of my oh-so-clever avatar that I had to post there. |

Great anime from mid seventies. Was a fore-father to Voltron, G-force, and Gundam Seed (& other Gundam and spaceship animes). Robotech, too. Good shizzle! 32? At least you're not gonna be 35 in about a week. Sighs....Again, have a great time here, Aurex.
