Eternity's End Faction Manual

Eternity's End Faction Manual

Thematic Music

“It's a large multi-verse. Fraternity often touches the deepest portions of individual desire.”
-Morthos the Wise

All PCs must choose a faction by the Midnight EST, December 1, 2012 deadline, those that do not will automatically be placed into the faction of The Lost. Please send all faction questions here.

Factions are a new way to further add flavor to your character and bring further to life the living campaign setting of Eternity's End. Players will find factions potentially arising as part of their adventures at randomized intervals and are free to excluding NPC factions and Mr. Gone specificallyincorporate factions as part of their story telling for their character.

A PC must choose a faction at character creation, the faction must be accessible by their player tier as noted in the Factions List by player tier below.

In order of operation for creating a character, factions are chosen last; meaning faction abilities gained, such as bonus feats, do not serve as prerequisites for gaining other feats at level 1. The choice in faction is permanent it cannot be altered, even through respec (unless the respec is made due to faction rules changes).

The one exception to the change of faction is that a player who is new to Eternity's End may join "The Lost" faction and later change their faction at level 5 by completing the respec quest Into the Breach, however, in such a case the respec must include a portion about how and why the character has chosen/was chosen to join a particular faction.

Players that do not wish to make factions a large part of their character's story are suggested to choose either The Lost or the Society of Planeswalkers, depending on which is more suiting to the demeanor of your character.

For the purposes of calculating feat access, players may take feats outside of their player tier if it is granted as a bonus from their faction or the faction grants access to the feat.

The UnaffiliatedThe Lost

No faction symbol available

Thematic Music

"The most unpardonable sin in society is independence of thought."

Most prefer to be called unaffiliated or some other synonym, but those without a faction are commonly referred to as "The Lost" by all others.

Unlike other factions, the unaffiliated answer to no one and heed no higher calling nor march to any drummer other than what their own fierce beat of independence. The unaffiliated mostly prefer their own philosophies, or simply find the factions so detestable for any myriad of reasons that they would never be caught dead in they may still participate in faction missionsdirect service to one. While the rewards and connections might be slimmer to those who make their own way through the multiverse, they are allowed the wondrous and bountiful reward of peace of mind in knowing that they are directly responsible for every step they take, for better or worse.

This faction is the default faction for all who do not choose a faction at character creation.

SoP, The Society, PlaneswalkersThe Society of Planeswalkers

Thematic Music

"The future, like nature, is an immense landscape in which we advance through centuries of discovery. In our little wisdom gathered over time we have found that every experience is a form of exploration."

The Society of Planeswalkers is an open fraternity that welcomes most anyone and operates as a loose social network with a better than average reputation. Most members are well mannered and pleasant folk and understand the value of working in groups when jumping across the planes into strange circumstances.

Knights of Eternity, Arbiters of JusticeThe Eternals

Thematic Music

"How sublime an act, to set the needs of eternity before your own, and how small a sacrifice, when all eternity lay before you. We are but instruments."

The Eternals see themselves as immortals that can improve life for mortals everywhere and view it as their sacred duty due to their ability to be reincarnated whenever they die, in contrast to the Ordo Lux Aeturnus which focuses solely on supernatural evils. They draw upon the powers of great deities, ancestors and powers of the multiverse to make themselves as gods so that they may combat evil and injustice, whatever form it takes.

Morkwert's, The Cartel, The MercsThe Mingott Cartel

Thematic Music

"Feeding the soul doesn't require neglect of the purse... Honor and wealth need not diverge."

Tradesmen after wealth, the goblins of Morkwert's Emporium employ many soldiers of fortune at Eternity's End because who is better to bring back the most precious artifacts and magic items besides the immortals at Eternity's End then those that can seek them out relentless without fear of death? While as friendly on the surface as the Society of Planeswalkers, most know the Mingot Cartel has a darker side that they keep well hidden as it's bad for business to air dirty laundry. Even so, a rumor or two of double cross and murder has been known to circulate from time to time, particularly when there is a lot at stake... but with greater risk, comes greater reward... so they say...

Frequently the Cartel uses their mercenaries to secure dangerous packages, but also to protect and transport them as well.

Adventurers attracted to the Mingott Cartel are frequently grizzled mercenary types or bright eyed young adventurers with a lust for gold. The Cartel has been known to be especially generous at times, and downright... well, mercenary at times. What matters most to the Cartel is the bottom line, though the mercs they employ are frequently less disillusioned.

ScoundrelsSkull 'N' Bones

Thematic Music

"The official motto of the Skull 'N' Bones is that the Skull 'N' Bones has no official motto."

Liars, cheats, degenerates, pirates and assassins, the Skull 'N' Bones has a well deserved reputation for skullduggery and is the home of the scoundrels who haven't upset so many that they were forced to take up residence in room 13. How they get by is mostly a mystery as they hardly trust one another, let alone members of other factions. The one thing members of skull and bones can count on is that other members of the faction will be less likely to be appalled by actions of looser morals, which makes them about as ideal as a partner in crime can be... that and they usually don't betray each other... usually...

The Scholars, The VeilThe Mysterium

Thematic Music

"Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance."

Loremasters who hold (or seek) all the keys to all the doors, the Mysterium seek out knowledge for its own sake. The Mysterium are keenly aware that some secrets were hidden for very good reasons. In some cases, the object of the search was not so much "lost" as "contained"; even the greatest masters of ages passed were sometimes faced with foes and dangers which they could neither tame nor destroy, and the only answer available might well have been to simply imprison the threat until such time as a more permanent solution could be discovered.

The secrets the Mysterium recovers are not made freely available to any querant. There is usually a price to be paid, more often than not including tests of discretion and loyalty on top of requests for goods and/or services. Knowledge without wisdom is meaningless, and few hold this truth as deeply as the Mysterium.

The Wylders, The Hedge Dwellers, Fey-Touched, Otherkin, The Dreamers, The DisplacedChimarae

Thematic Music

"The more strongly you cultivate belief, the more you will reality, the more your dreams shall blossom and the worlds shall issue forth from them..."

The Chimarae are the free spirited and often fey-blooded of Eternity's End. They bind together through much needed kinship in a world of infinite worlds in which they feel they scarcely belong.

Many fear that their kind are in a real threat of dying out, often pointing to the Legionnaires as the likely cause.

Technocrats, Technocracy, Steampunks, TechnomancersTechnoratti

Thematic Music

"One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men. No machine can do the work of one extraordinary hero."

The Technoratti's star agents enjoy power, money and glamour – but the real power they offer one goes well beyond that. Information worked from civilians, governments and clandestine organisations in the multiverse. The Technoratti can give you everything...and they can take it all away...

The technologically elite represent an inter-dimensional corporation that has somehow managed a trade agreement with the Cartel where emerging technologies are restricted only to registered users within the Technoratti... there is clearly some high profile conspiracies at work, but very conveniently no one ever seems to know a thing about it.

The Technoratti elite are unnamed, unknown and extremely influential with access to technologies of wondrous magnitudes and the servants they employ are generally secretive and as coldly efficient as the steel they bear. Not much is known about the upper echelons of the Shadow Council aside from the fact that they have strict views on control and even suppression of information that overcomes even the efforts of the Mysterium.

The Deathless, The SchaduwenThe Schaduwen Clan

Thematic Music

"We all die countless deaths, but how long before we learn to embrace the shadow?"

There is said, on the cotermineous plane of shadow, to be an edge, an ending to the infinite plane that holds upon the threshold the gates of true oblivion. It's location is not expressly known and it is said one must be lost in order to find it; a pilgrimage to this place is required to join the clan. Each pilgrimage is different and changes mortal perceptions along the way. Once there the pledge gazes into true oblivion... most follow the call and enter, destroyed, forever removed from reality, but a unique few manage to somehow resist or are rejected by fate and though they die in the process of simply gazing upon the anomaly, they return, now deathless. They are similar in many ways to both living creatures and undead. However, while undead represent a mockery of life and a violation of the natural order of life and death, the deathless merely stave off the inevitability of death and are forever tied to the plane of shadow.

NethermancersThe Nethermancer's Guild

Thematic Music

"Nearly all good men can stand even harsh adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, let him claim power."

Nethermancers are vastly powerful beings of unknown origin that are stated to be a combination of equal parts spirit, magical energy, and physical flesh. As such they are a very rare breed of alien-seeming individuals that overtly identify and traffic with abstract forces and concepts like time, shadow, tempest, oblivion, the primordial elements and chaotic warp forces of the beyond. They seek to incorporate these cosmic forces into their very being, treading a razor-thin line between ascendancy and being consumed by the powers they recklessly wield.
