Aspects: Dorian has a very strong survival instinct, and when his life is threatened he's capable of pushing himself past his limits to pull off feats that would surprise anyone that knows him. It may not be pretty or graceful, but when the alternative is death, it's worth it.

During the Vietnam War Dorian's cargo plane was shot down in a remote mountainous region. With nothing but his colt1911 sidearm and a few scavenged supplies he attempted to find his way back to friendly lines. On the second day he came across a tiny village in the mountains. From his hiding place in the jungle he could not see any Viet Cong soldiers, but something about the villagers made his blood run cold. The villagers seemed to be going about their business in complete silence and even at a distance something about the way they moved and the shape of their exposed hands and faces felt subtly wrong in a way he couldn't put his finger on. He snuck around the edge of the jungle, avoiding the village entirely.

Twice over the next few hours he came across the bodies of Cong soldiers hung from trees. They'd been torn to shreds, some of them partially eaten. He didn't sleep at all that night, and by morning was convinced that something unseen was watching him. He peered in tense silence from his hiding spot, but could perceive nothing untoward in the unfamiliar foliage. It was past noon before he worked up the courage to move. All that day his mind played tricks on him, flickers of movement out of the corner of his eye, unfamiliar sounds in the greenery took on a sinister cast. Never was he able to clearly perceive a threat, but all the same he was certain it was there.

He pushed himself on past exhaustion for a seeming eternity, nights and days mixing into a series of still images in his memory. Impressions of light and dark, mud and rain, and over it all that heavy humid stink. All the while dread trod on his heels. He still doesn't know what it was that prompted him, but one moment he was trudging through dimness along a thin game trail, following a river, and the next he'd emptied his sidearm into the trees behind him. Something dark and sinuous fell from the branches. From the bushes in which it landed a horrible bubbling shriek burst forth. From the jungle around them the cry was echoed many times over by other throats. Sprinting in a blind exhausted terror Dorian could only listen as the sounds of pursuit came rapidly closer. The sole grenade he'd salvaged from the crashed and burning plane backed them off briefly, giving him enough time to grab a fallen branch and jump into the mountain river.

The shadows never followed him into the water. After shooting a few small rapids the last of his strength left him and Dorian fell asleep. Head tucked into the fork of the branch, he didn't care if he drowned in his sleep, only that they hadn't got to him, that that oppressive terror was receding. He doesn't know how long he drifted down river, only that his next clear memory is of being dragged out of the water and into a PT boat by American servicemen.

According to the official report he'd spent eight days in the jungle alone, but in his memory it was an eternity.
Hardscrabble survivor, Maybe it has something to do with whatever makes him ageless, like attracting like, maybe he's cursed by someone or something, or maybe it's just bad luck, but Dorian seems to be destined to run into one bizarre situation after another.
Fish Men? He's friends with one named Abe, and his clan. They live off Maine and are pretty nice folks if you can get past the smell.
Interview with the Vampire? South of France. Her name was Isabella supposedly. Dorian managed to avoid staying for drinks later. Still not sure if it was a euphemism, but better safe than sucked dry.
Chupacabra? Yep. Dorian's still got a scar on his leg from the bastard. You should have seen the other guy though.
Wicked Witch? In the West appropriately enough. LA. She wanted to be a movie star and turned to black magic to make it happen. It didn't. Don't ask.
MIB's? Back in the 70's he ran into a small herd of them while smuggling a certain something something through the South. They wound up chasing him across four states because they thought he had something he didn't. No idea what it was they were really after.
Lizard people? Yea, that was Nam. Not sure if they really were lizard people, but that's the closest description he can come up with.
Leprechaun? Dorain's pretty sure that was just a crazy Irish hobo, way back in jolly old England. Pretty sure.
Ghosts. More than once. One solution was to find and properly bury it's earthly remains, another was to just get the hell out of the house and city.

Notes:
Dorian is, to all appearances, a man respected by the community. The owner and operator of a small charity operation called Hard Choices Half-way House. A place for people trying to reconnect with the world and shake the chains of substance abuse and mental illness. Hard Choices gets by with a combination of government money and funds from various charities, as well as the occasional private donation.

Notes: Eachan or Professor Mac or Professor Currie, is an itinerant speaker at a number of universities in Europe and North America. His specialty is Germanic studies and history with a minor in languages both current and arcane. During his studies he came across enough information to change from the Catholic faith of his parents to a more distant faith built on the ideas of his Scandinavian fore-bearers. (fortunately he is well aware that a large part of the Scottish population shares some viking DNA) His studies led him to an unimpressive small home in the rural areas of Iceland where he met and was trained by one of the few surviving Seidr/Gythja's to be found. He was introduced to a world behind our own, where legends and nightmares actually live or seem to live. Sometimes he doubts his own sanity or the memories he has of that time. Now he teaches more common aspects of Germanic history while pursuing his own studies into the esoteric. Doctor River McGurk became interested in cults after growing up in Indian Ashram with his hippy parents until he was 13. His parents returned to Australia and young River never really fitted in. Academically he was a whiz kid and excelled at the University of Melbourne becoming a lecturer in Sociology. His area of expertise was Cults. His talent was spotted by ASIO and he was employed as an undercover operative infiltrating various organisations for a period of 10 years including the Rajneeshs, Scientologists and a little known group the Eighth Day.

McGurk is a brilliant analyst of human relationship and has amazing insight into group dynamics. He has practical and theoretical knowledge of behaviour modification and persuasion techniques. Since finishing up his fieldwork for ASIO he has become reclusive and paranoid. McGurk has become a bit of a survivalist nut and lives on an isolated property near the Daintree Rainforest. The position with Hoffman Institute interests him greatly as he believes, although he would never state it publicly, aliens or other forms of intelligent life maybe using cults and even social media as form of mind control and indoctrination. He would also welcome the chance to move overseas to escape the eyes that are always watching him.

Born to a Cherokee father and a white mother in the heart of the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma, Joseph was said by one of the local elders to be born under a strange star and would one day be very important. Naturally, his parents pretty much ignored that, but that didn't stop the boy from growing a fascination with the old stories and legends and developing a strong sense of right and justice. These two loves drove him towards his degree: A B.S. in Criminal Justice with a minor in Native American Studies from the University of Oklahoma.

Returning home, Joseph settled into a position with the Cherokee Nation Marshals, quickly making his way to Detective and helping to solve several local murders and rapes. Still though, the young detective felt as if there was something missing in his life, something bigger that he could be doing. And so he applied to the FBI, NSA, and BIA, that last one being the only one that responded favorably.

In the years since, Joseph has traveled the country as a BIA Special Agent, investigating the most heinous of crimes that happen on Native land. In the beginning, the truly strange cases were intermixed with the "normal" ones, but being the only one capable of solving them has given him a bit of a reputation, and more and more of the cases with not-quite-logical endings come across his desk now.

Background:
Alice Rowntree was of a number of children to be lucky enough to grow up in the age of rapid technological advancement which brought us from a relative disconnect to the world around us to one where access to instantaneous information was the norm. The fact that her family provided the lifestyle and means to embrace these changes meant that the odd girl was more likely to browse databases than attend a sleepover, spending late nights teaching herself every shred of computer knowledge that she could grasp at. Ultimately, the flood of information served to bring out a quirk buried in her psyche; she had an insatiable curiosity that required her to see the patterns in things. This manifested in a form of obsessive-compulsive disorder that required the identification of patterns around her, such as a right side of the bed to get out on. But when introduced to that wealth of information from the net, it turned into what most would see as madness.

She came across all manner of conspiracy theory in her studies: UFOs, Roswell, missing gunmen, New World Order, a Hollow Earth, reptilian overlords, chemicals in the water. While most would brush away these things as the ravings of madmen, her mind grasped for any hint of a pattern. She would take that idea of UFOs and try to trace it back, going over historical accounts dating back years. While some would be thrown out for clearly being falsified, others would stick, and she would try to draw the connections that would tell her the deeper patterns of the world. As she started to find truth behind some of these patterns, it was the natural step that she seek out a position at the Hoffman Institute, where her curiosity and ability to not immediately reject the abnormal might serve her well.

BackgroundAddicted to the euphoria of rediscovering places both forgotten and forbidden, Oksana spent much of her childhood and early twenties planning for and then conducting elaborate exploratory missions. Medical school started as an excuse to put off adult responsibilities became a means of funding her ‘hobby’ as it became more consuming and her partners got married, had kids, or got arrested after bragging too much online.

She needed to broke away from the Urbex community and become more self-sufficient: learning to shoot for protection, and developing an inexplicable knack for - when the situation demanded it - being able to manipulate objects and her own trajectory with her thoughts. Her missions became meticulously thought-out to take advantage of whatever gaps she could find in her work-load.

With some resources saved up, she’s ready to make a career out of exploring old places in new ways.

Development NotesHer skill sets may need to be shaken up. I'm not thinking anything major, just a swap in for medical science, probably.


StuntsTelekinetic Synesthete. You can sometimes sense things about concealed objects that sighted people could tell by seeing them: texture is a feeling in your jaw, color can be a taste. Make a telekinetic overcome roll with a difficulty starting at Fair (+2) for a nearby object with minimal amounts of material between you and the object.

Creatures of Habit. +2 to overcome rolls with stealth if the opposition comes from people whose duty or habits you understand well without needing to create an advantage.

Without a Trace. You don’t have to be present to provide active opposition to someone trying to analyse physical evidence that you were present during a crime.
