Party Planning Thread

Remember, there's much more out in the wilds than is listed in the Rumor Thread. Even just setting the goal of exploring an area can turn up new and unanticipated adventure. The adventure is in your hands!

When forming groups keep in mind the posting rates of the other players that is listed in the West Marchers thread. Not everyone is okay with posting more or less than their norm. Please give people some time to answer in the threads when looking for a group. Not everyone is going to be interested in doing everything but I don't want to people who are interested to miss out. I will likely wait a certain amount of time before granting threads, usually 24 hours, to see if there are any other interest.

Good things to list are

Posting Rate: 1/Day

We talked about it in the Advertisement thread, and I'd like to unofficially/officially start banding people together for Scouting missions. In short- we're looking to explore the map, discover and map-out points of interest, identify dangers, then bring back news of our findings.

I intend for my Wizard to have the spells Identify and Find Familiar learned from the start- though I may not be able to cast Find Familiar until after our first adventure (10gp of stuff is consumed) - and Identify until after the second or third (100gp for a big ol' pearl).

I'm still deciding what will be most useful for prepared spells. Perhaps Detect Magic, Fog Cloud, Witch Bolt, and Expeditious Retreat?

Dietrich would like to find a party to handle the diseased population issue and please Chauntea, or seek out the killers by the cemetery, where all life should be respected.

Post Rate: Typically daily, but sometimes not at weekends. So lets say 4-6 / week.
Quests Watching:
"A series of burial mounds have been spotted. A local scholar wants some people to escort him while he goes to investigate him."

"The town had a funeral and filled one of the last burial plots. They had started a small cemetery a few miles out, but abandoned it as people started being killed. The funerary guild has offered a commission to explore and ensure that the plot is safe."

"The valiant knight, Gwenevere the Guardian, and her magic shield 'Honor's Pride' were lost surveying the river to the west. People would like you to retrieve her body for proper burial."

I also rolled up a front line Cleric, pretty good at the hitting part but I didn't roll the best constitution, so I'm not so great at taking any hits that get through the armour! While I think the above quests seem the most interesting, I am open to any suggestion really.

Character: Oskar Stenehjem Dwarf Nature Cleric
Post rate: Flexible; I check this every day, so could manage once a day, but may prefer slightly lower, but then again I've mostly looked at super-involved role play story games, so posts here may be faster.

Heh; three clerics in a row (@TheGoodDrEw: I *don't* just play clerics. Honest!)

As to what to do: if that scout party isn't full, Oskar would completely be into just exploring a bit -- he's mostly here to take notes on the plants and animals, but his curiosity will drag him along into deeper things.

From the rumors thread, the sick game to the south is the most obvious hook for Oskar, but the cave isn't a bad fit, either.

Character Name: Grauf Clanton, Triton Sorcerer 1
Posting Rate: Somewhere between 6/week and 4/week. Depends on how my life is taking me, but will always be between those markers.
Quests Watching: "A small conclave of hunters to the south led by a man named Velitas Illiomarus report that game has grown scarce and what's available is stricken by disease."
"The town has records of some sea caves to the south of the village. The town ship masters want to know if they would make a good harbor and shipyards for the city. Investigate and report back."

I've got a mid-range Sorcerer here. Focused on ranged damage and a bit of AoE with a smidgen of that classic Triton spell goodness. I remember my last West Marches party had a triton Sorcerer and it looked rad to play though Grauf is not a water sorcerer, but a wild mage. Pretty jovial about this new game, but I'll note that Grauf is terribly easy to hit. He might need a tank to work with.

To be fair, I play a whole bunch of tanks, so, I guess that I should just say, I made a cleric once who was only accidentally the tank of the party.

Also, as per the instructions in a different thread, Dietrich is seeking to go out with a group and hit things with a mace and spells, if anyone else is interested.

Posting Rate: Usually 4/week, often more depending on the speed of everyone else. Weekends don't often impede me, I'm just as active during them as I am through the week.
Quests Watching: "A small conclave of hunters to the south led by a man named Velitas Illiomarus report that game has grown scarce and what's available is stricken by disease."

Skriss is a surprisingly well built ranger, with high AC and is just as good at range as they are up close. The only possible downside is that as a Kenku, you may not like that Skriss has a hard time communicating. But it's also handy in tight situations as well as possibly fun in rp. First time in West Marches, but I'm a big fan of d&d and I'm not new to the "forum mmo" idea, as I'm also a member of the CoEA.

Post Rate: I can commit to 2-3 times per week. I'll often post more as able but sometimes work and the rest of real life is too busy.

Quests: Assuming I'm accepted, I'd be interested in checking out the diseased game the hunters are talking about, either the caves in the forest or the the sea caves, or just heading in a direction exploring.

Haven't played a monk in 5e yet but the rolls just set up so well for it, I'd thought I'd give it a try.

Harbek is a pretty good fighter with AC18 and HP13 and +5 on attack rolls. He also can lay on hands for a small bit of healing. He has a secret desire to learn about wizardry so watch out for innocent questions!

I am currently interested in heading south to explore the sea caves or the ravine with a network of caves. I was also interested in escorting the scholar to the burial mounds as that fits my character.

Inu I am also happy to join in with a bit of general exploring and creating a map for everyone to use.

Sound like we should definitely scout out the Southern direction. Perhaps we can get a rough sketch of the coastline, and take a visit to some of those sea caves while we're there.

That said, I think we'll need at least one more person and our posting rate would be 4-5 posts/week?

@Maskain: You want in on this? A sorcerer would bring some needed damage, and your merfolk heritage would likely come in handy on the coast. Also, your posting rate jives well with Oz's, Eourl's, and my own.

  • It's said that within a large ravine in the middle of the forest to the south there is a huge network of caves that is home to all manner of things. (Possibly done alongside the Smithson's Heavy Metal Forge side mission.)

@Inu - sounds good to me and if we have @Maskain as well that get to four which sounds pretty respectable. If Oz is confirmed then I wonder if we are ready to post in the requests thread. I am definitely happy with 4-5 posts per week.

On another note, any ideas on map making. Do you think we should create the map using a google docs spreadsheet?

Ack -- Oskar got snapped up in pms by another group heading focused on the sick livestock (as a nature cleric, he can't really resist).

Don't hold it against my app for your CoS game now, vash

@Oztk
Thanks for the update. Do you know who you are with?

I have looked through the posts, and it looks like these are players without adventures and the hooks they have mentioned.

NameHookCommitted
@EourlSouth, sea cavesno
@InuSouth, Sea cavesno
@thegooddisease, cemeteryno
@gazmaniaplague, cemetary, shieldno
@maskainplague, sea cavesno
@Duskersplagueno
@nomsea caves, plague, ravineno
@Anthruesersea caves, ravine, shieldno

Not sure if the best way is to PM people or do it in the thread? It looks like we should have two groups available from people who have posted so far.
