[Other] Player Seeking Games With Niche/Uncommon Characters

I spend my free time writing up tabletop characters. I find it fun to do, fairly simple, and it lets me flex that creative part of my brain that really enjoys writing but hasn't yet grasped the concept of basic pacing for a story. I really enjoy the roleplaying aspects of tabletop gaming and crafting a story through actions and interactions with other players and NPCs. As a result I tend to come up with characters that walk off the beaten path some in order to make them more interesting. Though that does limit how easily they can fit into certain games. So for those curious, I'd like to submit these character for your viewing pleasure and see if maybe you could use one of them in a game you're trying to build or are in need of a replacement.

I have a good spread of game systems I have knowledge of. 3.5e, 5e, Pathfinder (1e and some of 2e), GURPS, Shadowrun 5e (and some 4e), World of Darkness, Dark Heresy, Call of Cthulhu, just to name a few. If it's a new system I haven't delved in to, I'm willing to learn if the game idea/world sounds fun to play with and I'm willing to adapt these characters to a setting as needed.

Fun Fact: I've actually gotten one of these characters ejected from a game for excellent roleplay. Try to guess which one!

Lore Militain
Seeker of Arcane Knowledge
Lore has spent the better part of his existence searching for any and all knowledge regarding not just magic but the force that magic comes from. Aether, Mana, Ley-Lines, whatever you wish to call it. He desires this knowledge as the last wishes of his caretaker Torac who completed a magic ritual with the last expenditure of his very life force. Now the Tiefling travels the world, pulling together whatever knowledge he can regarding the very nature of magic to fulfill the dying wish of his caretaker. Unaware that one of his more unique gifts in regards to identifying magic items comes from an unlikely source.


Morg the Morning Star
Smith Forged by Providence
Morg had a vicious upbringing being a Half-Orc among full blooded Orcs. A member of the Durgis Clan, once known and feared as Dragonslayers, have since fallen into miserable decay and have long since lost their former glory. Morg was determined to leave these people, beings that showed him nothing but contempt and scorn for not being a full blooded Orc and undeserving of Clan Durgis. He channeled his anger, frustration, and drive to leave into crafting, leading to smithing in particular. One evening while on watch, Morg beheld a vision in the bonfire. A flame calling herself Ignia recognized Morg's talents and wished to grant him power. She was of the Old Gods and she was fading without followers to offer her prayers and offerings. By making him her champion and showing him visions of the great works he'd one day make with her help, Morg stepped into the fire and was remade into a chosen of Ignia. Divine powers in hand Morg has set out into the world, intent on using his knowledge and powers to not only establish himself but also to pull Clan Durgis from the miserable, hate-filled slump it's been stuck in for generations.



Vilthal Similat
Dwarf-Elven Artificing Prodigy
Vilthal got her recommendation into the Artificer's Guild by means of her own creation; A device she called an Aetheric Generator. A piece of magic and technology that was capable of pulling in raw magical energy to power anything of a relative size to the fist-sized object. With that display of untapped potential she was quickly brought in and taught. Now armed with at least 20 years of training at the hands of some of the best and brightest minds of the Artificer's Guild she strikes out on her own into the world at large. Armed with more knowledge that she could've dared to acquire as well as her construct companion Stonewall. A metal golem serving as her proof-of-concept for her generator as well as wishing to test the devices limits in the hopes she could make another to power all sorts of technology she could only dream of!


Throsha Lafara
Elven Military Agent
Quite literally born into a military unit, Throsha grew up with a retired Adventurer father and a mother who served as a soldier. She grew up with combat being in her life constantly in one form or another. Coming of age she enlisted in the military herself, swiftly rising through the ranks and training the light cavalry to being hand-picked for her exceptional skill in a special government group of operatives known as The Suicide Squad. A group specifically put together to go on missions that wouldn't implicate her kingdom in such covert operations. After a handful of these missions, she was honorably discharged. Despite her record being 'sealed' she has a feeling there are those in power that will find out about her and her knack for espionage, sabotage, assassination, and artifact study.


Ronto 'Lapis' Ultic
Disgraced Monk of his House
Ronto is a long way from his home, having been sent on a diplomatic mission to unite the Aarokocra with a clan of kinfolk that have lost their connection to the Plane of Air. However, disaster befell him and he was captured to be used in a strange ritual to bring back a long-dead being. He was able to disrupt the ritual but feedback from the ritual itself has seeped into him and manifested in strange ways. The larger problem came in the form of a pair of gauntlets, meant to be a symbolic gesture of unity and strength, that were broken saving himself. Now, to save himself and the honor of his family and of his clan, he must reforge these gauntlets and deliver them. As well as uncover what strange ways the ritual's magicks have begun to manifest inside of him.


Yuroak Nalard
Frontiersman Across the Planes
Born as the 2nd child among 4 siblings, he was the only boy of the lot. His mother was a local warrior legend by the name of Ina of the Rust, and was spoiled by his father Dulok. On his first trip into town with two younger sisters Yuroak would encounter a gang of smugglers and kidnappers targeting the young girls. Yuroak struck a deal with the group to take him instead, but spare his sisters. After that day he was forced to do the dirty work of these awful people for 20 years. Sailing the seas, beating people, capturing helpless folk to be sold or traded. He slipped away from them after one particularly drunken evening and has since started using his brutal fighting tactics to hunt down the men that wronged him and his family. Even willing to traverse the Elemental Plains if it meant satisfying his vengeance for suffering under their cruel yoke.


Jordas Brandywen
Haunted Cleric of the Half-folk
Jordas may appear Human but he speaks and behaves much like the Halflings he was raised among. Abandoned as a child in a Halfling community he grew into a fine young man with a desire for exploration and a latent divine connection. He marries a fine Halfling lass, Chenepel Rillgren, and prepares himself for a farmer's life in the rich community of Seven Arches. However, Jordas learns that there is a mysterious figure hounding him, challenging him to a duel every time they meet and vanishing as quickly as it appears. Unwilling to wait and simply hope this figure doesn't go after anyone else but himself he embarks in a journey to strengthen his divine connection and figure out who the mysterious figure is that comes and goes seemingly at-will.



Paradin Stoneheart - The Undying
Unkillable Half-Folk Gladiator
Paradin has a simple dream; To become a world-renown chef. The only problem was that he had no money to his name and no place of business was willing to take him on to further hone his craft. He wasn't bad. He just lacked practice. So, in order to practice at home he joined The Arena to acquire extra coin and billed himself as 'The Undying' to show the tenacity and strength of the Half-folk. But he was blinded by his future and neglected to read the fine print on the contract he signed for a few feature fights. An error that ended with him fighting for nearly 20 years against man, beast, monster, and fellow gladiators, held there against his will by the sorcerer who runs the whole show. Only after giving up his entire earnings and basically paying his way behind the back of the sorcerer he was able to leave. Only his fighting gear, a long, bloody series of fights, and regret as his only things to show for his efforts. Now, he tries to re-build and attempt to fulfill his original dream of becoming a famous chef.



'Dragon's Tear' Roux
Arcane-Infused Goblin
The product of mad science and arcane magic, Roux was trained extensively in moving sight unseen, unheard, and unnoticed. The ultimate thief. But to supplement his unrelenting training with a golem controlled by his 'creator' he was forced to harness the magic he had been given access to. Eventually he was able to escape the fort he was trapped in, leaving with his 'creator's' tome that he's learning to read and utilize. Out in the world now with his severely regimented skillset he seeks to make a name for himself and uncover just how extensive his access to magic is. And collect however much treasure he can carry along the way to prep for an assassination of his 'creator'.



Clayton 'Einhand' Roland
One-armed Street Samurai
Clayton actively dislikes cyber implants. As a mechanic he argues there's no replacement for getting flesh and blood good and dirty after a day's hard work. He hates that his arm had to be replaced and he thought long and hard over how he was going to replace it after losing it under the treads of an earth mover. He struggled to keep a place, keep food in his stomach, and keep his bills from getting any taller due to the fights he was getting drawn in to for having just one arm. He was an easy target. Missing his arm and having everything repo'd to pay for his medical bills he fled to Japan, hoping to find easier work under an assumed name. In trying to find medical work he fell in with the Yakuza as they seemed to be the only ones willing to pay for his mechanical expertise and even taught him to fight for himself with just one arm. Five years have passed since then, and Roland makes his way back to the states. Intent on finding out who took his arm in the first place and wishing to show them the error of their ways with his new synthetic arm.

Corb
Strong Hands Stained Red
Noteworthy for being utterly silent as he towers over all, this Goliath Monk is on a personal journey of discovery to uncover who his parents are. Having been left on the step of a monastery at birth he did learn how to fight, largely to keep his Orcish tendencies at bay while he focused on his studies. This is a very rare type of Goliath; One born from the pairing of a Dwarf and an Orc. And Corb is aware of this fact. His many years spent in the only home he's known made his focus on expanding his mind and carefully exploring the battlelust he can never truly escape from. His restlessness grows and compels him to seek out his parents, find out who they were, and learn why he was abandoned in the first place. But his acquired knowledge is a dangerous one, regarding the ways of life and death. Thus, in order to even leave his home, he undertakes a Vow of Silence: A binding oath that will take his life should be utter more than a few words in order to preserve the secrets of his training.




Ripper
A Monster Tamed?
Ripper doesn't remember his previous life. His first memory was waking chained to a chair and having some Humans making demands of him. After making it clear he'd fight in this arena or die he was made to undergo battle after battle with dull weapons and piecemeal armor, learning quickly with every fight. Voices murmured to him during and after each scrap, telling him things he didn't notice on his own. There were multiple voices. All determined, seemingly, to make him as dangerous as possible so they might escape in this new vessel they were stuck in. after scraping together coin for bribes and being submerged in blood and viscera, the Gnoll made his escape from the arena. Now, with crystals embedded in his skull and years of combat experience etched into his muscles, he set about trying to escape the sprawling city by any means and uncover who he was before his forced servitude in bloodsport.



Scribe Ultic
Wielder of Words
Scribe hates the Kenku Curse. She hated it when she first heard the story retold by her mother as a bedtime story. She hated it so much she left to go figure out a way to break it. She had no idea how she'd do so but she was going to find a way. It was unbelievable to her that an elemental prince could be as petty as that after all those centuries! The problem arose right away when she had no idea how she was going to break this curse. She knew she had to go to the Elemental Plane of Air but her entire race was shut out form there and had been ever since they were cursed. And she struggled so heavily to communicate with anyone she came across that she just resorted to writing her questions down to have them answered faster. In her desperation for something better she entered a church dedicated to the god of writing and language, Deneir. She knelt down, and began to pray with all she had. She tried to speak in Auran but even then her words weren't her own. But her prayer was heard, and she was granted an audience with her Master, the man that would show her the ways of the Runepriest...



Markin Sebinos
A Lord Among Beasts
A Tabaxi with stars in his eyes and determination burning in his heart, Markin has grown tired of the shadowy cabal that is the Lords of Waterdeep. However being the son of a shipwright and a cook he was hardly in a position to pull serious strings or start shifting pieces to topple such powerful figures, and any attempts to establish a network of contacts swiftly dried up. Quickly deducing he wouldn't be able to make moves in the city itself now that he had made himself known he decided to undertake the mantle of adventurer. Honing his combat abilities, making a name for himself in the world, and steadily building his reputation so that he can obtain the power necessary to supplant The Waterdeep Lords and wrench the city out of their corrupt noble grasp.



Torelian Mirrorscale
Reshaping His Reality
Being the son of a would-be archmage, born into a fading noble Dragonborn family, Torelian has much weighing on his shoulders. All in his family were adept magic users of at least one branch of magic, with his falling into Illusion magic. His Father's training regimen and practice was brutal, leading to Torelian's mother and younger brother to flee while they could. In that time the gold Dragonborn was shaped into a dry, calculating, proud to the point of arrogance diplomat. Prying his wit and charms on those unsuspecting of his goals around him to get what he wanted; Influence. He wanted a high enough station so that he could have access to centuries of arcane knowledge, equipment, and the brightest minds behind them. Very few respected his natural talent with Illusion magic, writing him off as a conjurer of cheap tricks or that his talents would be better served as an entertainer than a diplomat. But Torelian wouldn't be deterred. He would secure his station, acquire the title of Arch-Mage, restore his family's place among the Dragonborn nobility, and end his Father's tyrannical reign. Maybe then, he can see his Mother and little brother again...

It would be fantasy, mostly traveling the world in search of these men, but the hunt could take him to the outer ring that borders the outer rings.

With the arrival of a New Year I thought I'd clean this up a little and offer a new batch of unusual or niche characters! Hopefully to inspire others to test boundaries but also to show of a little and brag about how vast and textured my imagination can get ^^

A human raised by halflings - clever idea!
The idea of a street samurai who doesn't want implants also sounds like a fun premise for a character.

You can definitely find flexible GMs, it just needs to be part of the initial dialogue when beginning a game. I feel like a good GM can make any character idea work, but somebody who isn't flexible maybe is either too new to GMing, or too stuck in their ways. The only time I wouldn't ask to use an off-the-wall unique character, is when a particular game's setting forbids it.

Nah I'm not looking for games, I can find them well enough. These are just the more unusual or highly specified backgrounds that can be a struggle to find a game for them. Hell, Scribe is built around a homebrew class so that makes it all the more difficult to get her accepted.

I just wanted to share these and maybe give other players ideas for PCs. Or just say 'Yeah these are weird but kinda cool ideas'.
