Ezechiel cocks a brow at Hubert's report. It serves to confirm his suspicions about the queer scene. "I'd wager a fair bit that we're the ones they're awaiting then. I have the strangest feeling that the officious one is familiar." If it is that stubborn collector for that nobleman, the hellspawn is going to string him up. "So, I can warp in and knock that buckle trinket toward our door for scooping. The rest of you can charge in. Whatever welcome they plan with be trickier with weapons pressed upon them."

Scarlet pursed her lips in thought. "I don't like it." she whispered. "You should never fight an enemy on a field that they design. Do we still have any illusionists? We need to change the battlefield. Make them come to us. Or at least one of them leave for some reason." If they came out to them, they would have to be tricked though, or else any advantage of surprise would be lost. And from the sound of it, the advantage of surprise was no small thing; "What is this 'buckle' you speak of?" ... or any other items and powers they should know about.

Ezechiel shrugs. "I don't like it either, but taking them by surprise is the best of such a situation. Luring someone hither or elsewhere clues them in someone is here thwarts that level of surprise." At the mention of the buckle, he frowns in frustration & worry. "There is a buckle sitting on the table that feels dragon size shades of unsettling. Shar is here looking for an innocuous looking artifact; that is probably it. I can only guess what it does. As comparison, that brush of Shar's that makes her drawings real, that is another such artifact. ... Thus, the importance of surprise to make sure they cannot use whatever it is." Looking around, "Anyone with a better idea. We need to do this quickly."

"I don't have a better one," Hubert confirms, "Although I would suggest that after we have ensured they cannot use the buckle we see if they do intend to simply talk before actual combat."

Ezechiel nods. No objections are made. "All right, gather at the door, everyone. Once I warp, burst in, and, Hubert, swipe the buckle."

Siding up to the door, Ezechiel clenches his blade in his grip. Nudging the door open, he briefly nods back to his comrades before vanishing. He Fading Strike maneuver - teleport up to 30' & attackreappears in the next room beside the table. With a quick swipe of his sword, he knocks at the accursed buckle from the table, aiming toward the floor at the foot of the open door. Flashing his blade toward the table's occupants, the shadowbane growls, "Don't move."

Hubert, standing directly behind Ezechiel, knowing his role nods back to signal that he is ready. As soon as Ezechiel vanishes, he begins to move forward into the room. He opens the bag and aims to catch the buckle without actually touching it. He then begins to move backwards, putting some distance between the bag and the occupants while ensuring that he could attempt to defend himself without his back turned if needed.

As Ezechiel appears in the room Shar starts in her chair from where she was leaning her hand on her fist and dozing. The buckle goes skittering away from the table, only to be snatched up by Hubert and stowed in the bag. Door wide open, everyone can see inside the room. It is a large chamber, dressed up as well as can be expected. Compared to much of the camp equipment, this furniture must have taken up more than its fair share of space. There's a table, a large sleeping couch, and some comfortable armchairs. The opposite wall has another painted door. On the table are a quill, set up in a quill stand and an old torn journal. Sleeping on the layback couch is a corpulent man, easily pushing four hundred pounds, dressed in rich clothing and a ridiculous white ruff around his collar. One of the other armchairs is occupied by someone reading a book, but you can't see their face, just the book held up and one leg crossed over the other. He's wearing black boots. As he stands and turns to face the open door, he holds his hands up in the air, still holding the book open in one. It is Thomas, from the bar, and he doesn't go so far to smile, but he looks relieved everyone has arrived. Shar exclaims, "Finally!" and Thomas casts her a scathing look.

"We're at your mercy," Thomas assures them. "but the room is trapped. Kill any one of us, and the entire chasm collapses on us."

"It's not our intention to kill anyone..." Ceridwen assures, though her face states just as clearly that this isn't out of any sense of courtesy, and she turns her furious gaze on Shar, "But make another run for it and I have exactly no problem with killing us all."

Shar groans deep in her throat, in a manner uncharacteristically adolescent considering the myth around the menacing mercenary leader-woman. Her head even lolls back as she does it, appearing in the moment more like a fifteen year old girl being told her skirt is too short by her mother. "Of course she made it through the desert." She drolls, rolling her eyes and making the exasperated ugh noise again. "Why couldn't the plant boy make it. I miss that one. He sounded so heroic in the book." The sarcasm almost drips from her words.

Though impassive as always, the consummate diplomat, Thomas's face is clearly impassive by sheer force of will. There is something intentional about how stiff and reserved his posture is. Anyone who has had the same argument with a child a thousand times can recognize this type of restraint. "We need to talk. But his lordship should be awake for this. May we move and rise him? He'll sleep through Armageddon if you don't poke him with something."

"I'll give him a poke." Scarlett offered, a bit less than helpfully perhaps as she brandished her dagger. "But I'd rather we tied him up first."
Dice Perception:
d20+17 (9)+17 Total = 26
Throwing her eyes about the room for hidden dangers (and perhaps this 'brush'), the rogue pulled out her rope, ready to make use of it.

The show of surrender brings mixed feelings on the wary shadowbane. At least, with the buckle safely away, they can breathe a little easier. Snapping a glare at their quarry, the hellspawn snaps, "Shar, shut up. Scarlett, bind their hands behind their chairs first. Search them." Looking to Dwen, he motions his head toward Shar, if she wants to do the honors of binding her. They definitely need to find that brush, far too dangerous to leave in anyone's possession.

Ezechiel eyes the Marquis' agent, blade remaining at the ready. "Is that the Marquis d’Pretelsworth? How did he or you even get here?" Imagining him marching through the desert (or even carried) seemed like it would require greater feats of magic than a direct teleport.

Shar and Thomas share a look at the idea of being tied up. "I assure you, we're unarmed. Tying us up will only serve your own gratification and little else. I assure you, before we're done, you'll end up untying us again." Still, he continues.

"Yes, that is the Marquis." Thomas agrees, his hands still raised. "We built an apartment for him in a piece of magic cloth. It creates quite a deep hole, very handy. It weighs nothing. We traveled in relative comfort that way, though it can be a bit dark and stuffy if not left open."

Ceridwen nods to Ezechiel at the idea of her taking Shar. She reaches back to retrieve the magical shackles she's kept near at hand for what feels like an Months? I've lost track. I need to update the calendar.eternity. She holds them up for Scarlett's inspection. "Everyone of us who was in the capital has a pair like this. Get Lacha's and take care of Thomas. Once they're in the cuffs, you can tie them to the chairs if you like. Take everything from them besides their most basic layer of clothing. We'll take care of the Marquis after the other two are bound."

Turning her attention and her readied shackles back to Shar, she speaks with none of her usual snark, refusing to match the other woman's. "Stand up and put your hands behind you back."

Glancing once more around the small artificial cavern before approaching the woman she'd pursued since leaving her home town, she takes a mental inventory of the people present. "Where's Matt? Miranda said he was with you."

"He was." Ceridwen confirms, only standing after Thomas does, consenting to be bound with far more loathing than Thomas seems to be. "We sent him up for coffee a few minutes before your arrived."

Matt must have taken a short cut. The party took, intentionally, the long way down using the entrance to the excavation and not the trap door that lead to a trap which Miranda said was how Shar usually accessed the dig site.

"We'll risk the inconvenience," the shadowbane responds flatly, denying the request to avoid bonds. "Make sure you get the accursed brush off her." With that safe away, that will be no small relief for them.

Recalling the bed he scooted atop the trapdoor, Ezechiel smiles a little. "He may have found a touch of difficulty with that." It would take a burly fellow indeed to budge that weight, much less get it open.

His features steel as the others work to bind everyone. Once shackles and bindings are distributed around, Ezechiel shoves the sleeping nobleman roughly to stir him. Crossing his arms, he eyes Thomas, "You wanted to talk? So, talk."
