![]() Class- Barbarian (Zealot) Race- Human Background- Acolyte Alignment- Lawful Good, at least while he's lucid. Role- Tank History- When Damon Lightfire, high cleric of Lathander, came through the farming town of Gourdsdale looking for recruits for an adventure, Jacob dropped his shovel and never looked back. He was bored of digging holes and stacking stones, and dammit, he was of age, and he could make his own choices. Even if they were, in retrospect, terrible choices. But regret came later: at first traveling with Lightfire and his band was exhilarating; he learned to swing a sword, to throw a dagger, and he learned for the first time about the Gods. Not that he had never heard of the Gods before. There was a temple to Chauntea in the town square and several smaller temples to other Gods here and there, and Jacob would go and sing the songs he was supposed to sing, but he never really thought about it much. It was just a ritual, a part of the day where he wasn't stacking rocks. But when Lightfire spoke of the Gods, there was a passion there, a fire inside him, and soon that fire caught in Jacob's heart as well. The party reached Khundrukar without much trouble; some bandits here, some beasts there. It was inside the ruins that where it became clear the mission doomed. Torlund, the mercenary who had taught Jacob to use a sword, was the first to die, decapitated by an Orc. Fleeing, the elf sorcerer Avadrielle fell into a pit of spikes. Jeremy, the thief, escaped into the darkness at some point, his fate unknown. Soon only Jacob and Damon remained, desperately running for the exit, pursued by the orc horde. But they were turned around, lost, and it was clear they were no closer to the entrance than before. "Go. Run, boy. I'll hold them off" Damon was done running. He had turned to face the horde, certain death. "You'll die." Jacob protested meekly, stating the obvious. "Yes. And I'm ready for that. But not you, Jacob. The Gods still have a plan for you. Now go! Get out of here! Find your way home!" Jacob nodded, tears in his eye, looking over his shoulder once as he fled down the corridor. Moments later he heard a brief flurry of steel on steel, a cry of pain that might have been an Orc, the unmistakable sound of Damon's howl of agony, then silence. Jacob kept running. He had no idea where he was. Had they come this way at all? Was he back on the first level? He remembered, too late, the fate of Avadrielle, as his own foot landed, expecting solid ground, but finding empty space. He fell... he wasn't sure how far he fell. His torch died when it hit a pool of water, but even if it hadn't, the world went dark for Jacob when his head hit the stone floor. He awoke hours later in darkness. He felt his way around the space he was in: no exit. Water trickling down the smooth rocks fed a slimy layer of fungus, making climbing out impossible. He was trapped. He had some rations in his pack, but they lasted only a week. The water in the tiny cavern tasted foul, but he drank it, though at first he shat out more of it than stayed in him. Each day he would pray to be saved, and each day his prayer went unanswered. He had utterly lost track of time. His rations had run out days ago. Weeks ago? Longer? He didn't know. His head swam with a delirious hunger, and he turned his mind to Damon Lightfire's last words: the Gods still have a plan for you. It was true. It had to be true, Damon had been so certain of it, had died for it. He said a prayer again, to Ilmater this time, for the strength to endure this trial. And this time, his prayer was answered: Jacob's hands filled with mana, food of the Gods, and he ate of it and found his hunger satisfied. Each day he speaks the same prayer, and each day Ilmater fills his hands with mana, and he spends each day in devotion to the idea that he will someday be saved. He presses himself against the stone floor, lifting his body to build his strength, endlessly, fueled only by the grace of his God and the divine anger that glows inside him. Personality- Jacob has been trapped in a cave for months, at least, and he's gone a bit mad in that time. He eats no food except "mana", an odd bread-like substance he can Once per day, Jacob can cast "Goodberry" using the Magic Initiate feat.seemingly summon from nothing, but he's happy to share his unusual meal. He thinks aloud in most situations, and often speaks with Ilmater in an oddly casual way; he doesn't seem to be able to distinguish between his own thoughts and the voice of his God. Jacob is kind and humble. He doesn't really seem understand how strong he's become. When he rages, he becomes filled with a divine fury, but it's usually followed by a period of sobbing; emotionally, he's still basically a boy. On some level he blames himself for the deaths of his adventuring party, for not being stronger. This drives him more than anything else; he won't retreat again. Kind of rolled my history and roleplay sample into one thing, hope that's alright.
Not sure where the party will be when the encounter the new characters. I figure they can either come across Jacob's pit as they go through the dungeon or we can say Jacob managed to escape his pit in some other way. Last edited by Phil; Oct 16th, 2018 at 04:38 PM. |

Hello. I'm thinking about a character concept to apply.
Is the Cleric slot filled? I could come up with an interesting Dwarf Cleric of the Forge Domain. Or could finally give a try to an idea I have about a Dwarf Sorcerer... whoud that be a better fit for the game? |

Our cleric slot is already filled by a dwarf forge cleric. |

Considering we lost our wizard, yea it would.
Seems he got lost looking for bat droppings muttering something about a fireball spell. |

Ok, here is my application.
Since the party lost it’s Wizard, I might as well take up that mantle. I always fancied a Dwarf Transmuter, so this looks like a good chance to give it a try.
