He'd be a mix of Logan/Wolverine, a little bit Dale Gribble, but with knowledge and focus comparable to Dr. Strange, studying all the ancient faiths and occult traditions he can as he trains in the woods. Idk if anyone else has made a character like that yet, there are a lot of pages here to skim through
Thanks! I actually started this and another game for the express purpose of leveraging the game system’s ability to handle pretty much any genre and hopefully entice folks into trying it out! The character generation process can be intimidating and I am committed to helping make it as fun as possible!

Well no one else has built that, probably because the common origin requires the player characters are all teenagers conceived in Manhattan, rather than a rural environment; we have at least one urban homeless guy though!

You could certainly play a character who was conceived in Manhattan and then moved with family to a rural survivalists community, possibly in reaction to the attack of the inter dimensional invaders! I just need you to have a reason why you are back living in Manhattan or nyc at least for the game!

Murgh. Kinda tempted to join this, but having the character be attractive... also the system seems daunting... I got confused reading it >.>

How would you build someone who pseudo-teleports by shifting to an astral plane that's a monochrome copy of the real world except within that plane he could fly and pass through things and move faster?

I could also go instead with someone who's a Kamen Rider expy... someone who transforms into an armored form reminiscent of a grasshopper (and probably slightly skeletal and green-flamey too, to slightly resemble the invaders, since Kamen Rider has a tradition of using the power of their villains against them...) and fights using superpowered jumps and martial arts, and maybe some sort of magical motorcycle... or maybe a skeletal horse would be better... XD

That’s really interesting! I am open to the concept, and Hero System’s flexibility and ability to build anything is what I love most about it! That said, I am not familiar with your reference/source and I do have the invaders source specifically detailed out, so i will ask for your patience to work on the character together!

So, I see this is re-bumped and you're helping people make characters again @HeroFan someone has an incredibly on-brand name. I'll throw my hat in the ring again, with Ion, the chemistry powered superhero, perhaps the closest analogy would be the full-metal alchemist anime, but then significantly more capes!

If you'll still have me, that is.

I honestly can't recall why I stopped posting here, I think it's either loss of availabiliy, the system being a bit daunting or my not wanting to be "That guy who keeps re-using the same stupid concept". But I've got time now, both to post and learn a system and I've still got to prove that chemistry is the coolest superpower.

Yes, you are totally welcome! And I don't recall any reason either. I seem to recall that though Hero System can do ANYTHING, the first-gen, teen super concept of this game with PC's unsure of their powers and starting off with unreliable or more basic versions might have made difficult the chemistry-based power set? But we can work it out, I am sure! The character might start off mostly making things go boom and branching out from there, or could start of being able to analyze and detect chemical information and leveraging that? Whatever you have in mind!

Kamen Rider is a superhero show from Japan, and its protagonist is a transforming superhero whose motif is almost always based on an insect, rides a motorcycle, and fights with martial arts. The closest thing that I can compare it to that most people know is Power Rangers, and that's because Power Rangers are based off Super Sentai, which is kinda like Kamen Rider's younger sibling (Sentai's more aimed towards kids and includes mecha).

Anyway, the original old-timey Kamen Riders were cyborgs made by evil organizations who fought against their programming to fight said evil organizations, but the modern era Kamen Riders have a variety of origins, magical, evolution-based, technological, but with the reoccurring theme of using a similar or identical source of power to their villains to said enemies, with the idea that it's not the power that's evil, but the people who misuse it. That's why it'd be nice if the character's power could be somewhat tied in with the invaders' power, although I guess that might end up revealing too much? We could always bring it to PMs, I guess?

So, uh, how does one go about making a character? >.> Is this power Multiform or something?

IonName: Morgan Matthews
Supranym: Ion

Sex: Female
Age: 17
Powers: Chemancy

Appearance: Outrageously attractive, Morgan's wavy red hair hangs to frame her face and is decorated with streaks of blue-green and has similarly dyed ends. Tresses of the long vibrant hair frame her heart-shaped face. An intense piercing gaze is cast by her almond-shaped sapphire blue eyes, they sit beneath somewhat thick dark eyebrows. Sitting above thin, red-coloured lips is a thin, pointy nose marked by slight freckles. Morgan's face shows no scars, and her smooth skin is only marked by a black ring around her neck, the scars from a botched transmutation. The heroine's physique is a dream, with a tall stature of 5'10'' and generous curves.

In day to day life, the young lady prefers simple clothes, usually form fitting leggings or jeans with a plain shirt and a blouse open over it. Her outfits are allmost invariably accesorised with a thick scarf to hide her neck or, failing that, a generous amount of foundation to conceal the black markings. She mostly keeps her hair in a single braid to "keep it from falling in front of her face" but also to look slightly more different from her alter ego.

To say Morgan's supersuit is like a second skin would be an understatement. Numerous navy-blue and maroon straps are superimposed on the thick black nylon. The straps have the same molecular structure as muscles, and she uses them as such through her chemancy. Over this suit Ion wears a white coat, reminiscent of a labcoat. Other unique functions are her shiny knee-height boots, which have various metals embedded in them to form knives in close quarter combat and a short cape with a tangle of threads dangling from it which can turn into a giant kite to allow flight. A pair of rather large aviator sunglasses with mirrored lenses obscure a part of her face. While using her powers, Ion's hair and eyes glow, increasing in intensity as she uses them more and more.

Personality Fun-loving, hyperactive and extroverted are all features Morgan is known for. Beyond that the young-woman is quite flexible and tenacious, with a real problem solving attitude and enough creativity to see any problem from a different angle. To other people this makes her look a bit strange, especially in tandem with her stubborn nature and particular skillset. Despite criticisms, Morgan is clever enough to know what she can reasonably accomplish and gets results one way or another.

In unfilled hours she's often quick to reach for her smartphone, checking on her social network for both her personal life and her vigilante altar-ego or finding out new interactions for use with her powers. She's quite hard working, and takes great pride and joy in her superhero antics, the suit feels like a second skin to her and in comparison her mundane life feels slow to her. Over time this has made her seem a bit self-centered, reserved and shallow to non-superpowered humans, but all the more glad and talkative around fellow supers.

While she won't admit to it, Morgan often finds herself daydreaming about her superhero acts. She's growing acclimated to the thrill that the secret identity brings with it and wouldn't trade it for the world. Despite knowing the dangers her superhero identity brings with it, Morgan feels pity towards normal humans who never will quite experience the kick of this power fantasy.

Power: Chemancy Chemancy is a rather specific superpower that allows Morgan to roughly rearrange atoms present nearby into different molecules and then catalyse preferred reactions between them. It does have a distinct visual effects when in use: Arcing lightning is caused by rapidly moving charged particles and objects effected glow slightly in varying colours as excited electrons emit photons.

Common uses of this ability include: Rapid oxidisation of bullets and other projectiles to effectively turn them into dust, rapidly oxidising carbon into carbondioxide cushions to protect against blunt impacts, transmuting inert nitrogen in the air to volatile gasses and subsequently exploding them and the systematic destruction of molecules to easily cut through objects. She's also known for making large monomolecular structures from various metals and plastics for general utility.
Ever the industrial person, Morgan has also upgraded her outfit with some unique abilities. One such example is forming large carbon structures to create wings and then causing explosions beneath them to fly. Another equipment trick exists in the small black spheres, they're composed of some niche plastic based made from carbon, oxigen, phosphorus, sulfur and fluor. It's quite inert normally, but through Chemancy Morgan can cause them to explode, ignite or turn them into a flamethrower of sorts by fusing them with her suit.

Backstory: In school Morgan allways used to be a quiet individual, quite happy to keep to her books and keep her head down. She didn't quite like to be the centre of attention, in her school a group of wealthier girls enjoyed themselves with ruining reputations by spreading rumours for sport. Morgan was quite quick to notice the trend and in desperation to avoid it she'd hoped to pass under the radar. This ostrich approach to solving her trouble was quite tough on her general mood at the time, but she had some friends to help her through it.

Eventually though, one of her friends named Amber was courageous and stupid enough to try and speak out against them. The group destroyed her socially, spreading rumours of Amber having multiple relationships with older men. Police found it necessary to investigate, and found reason to believe the rumours. Amber ended up locked up, as well as her supposed boyfriends, amongst others Morgan's father. It was during these stressful days that Morgan awakened her powers, and with them a thirst for vengeance. The proces of identifying and learning to use them was difficult and awkward at first, but eventually she managed.

Confident in her powers Morgan set to work. She looked up some spores of various drugs, and attempted to re-create them. When that done Morgan continued to the next step of her own plan. After a few months of sucking up to the teachers Morgan proposed a lab to be spent on drug-testing eachother. When the social elite had their vials prepared she quietly spiked them several times, causing a positive in the entire group. Suddenly questions came floating to the surface about what this group did together when alone. Most of them quickly got into trouble with their own families, and were forcibly split apart as a group. Individually the members of this group quickly lost their fangs, and Morgan, much like the other children at her school were left to develop into their own respective persons.

With the schools predators done for many people began to grow and bloom. Much the same happened to Eli, a friend of Morgan's, who hesitantly revealed he had a crush on Morgan during a chemistry lab. Morgan, who was stealthily aiding their work along a bit, was shocked severly and accidentally transmuted Eli's arms into plastic. Conveniently the boy fainted, so Morgan dragged him outside for "a breath of fresh air". After dropping him off Morgan brought some books from the library on biochemistry. After a brief studying session Morgan started to form cellular structures from the plastic in Eli's arm. It was a rough job, and she cut a lot of corners, but in the end the arm looked mostly lifelike. When Eli asked what had happened Morgan simply lied Eli fainted after hearing her say she felt the same way, not mentioning the arm out of shame.

After this, Morgan's next problem was freeing her father from jail. Her first idea was to dress black and simply break in. Concrete could be converted to various acids, so she used that to climb over the walls. Iron bars posed no trouble as they could be instantly rusted, the same held true for handcuffs. The plan was simple, the building could be converted into various non-obstructive alternatives so the jail might as well not exist for her. No plan survives contact with the enemy however, and Morgan was caught. Her first idea was to transmute her mask to fuse with her skin to conceal her identity and then run away. That part worked, and Morgan got away with a criminal record for her superhero identity, a really strange scar around her neck and the lesson that she's not omnipotent.

Since then, Morgan started to explore the limits of her powers, prowling around cities at night and working as a vigilante. It felt exhilarating to put on a cape and fly through the night, and all the time she got good exercise, a creative outlet and the feeling she made a difference in the world. Not long after she's started Morgan found herself hunted by a mutant by the name of Effigy. In the proces Morgan started to feel like her normal life wasn't worth living anymore, like it was too slow. Out of ethical concerns however she didn't let herself relinquish her human side in favour of her alter ego, and instead she made an effort to fill in her life a bit more: joining the volleyball club and started volunteering at the zoo. She's also set herself a date by which to stop her double life and only delayed it fourteen times as of yet.

Interesting! Please tell me more about the relationship between the normal and superhero forms? Is it just about a different appearance, or are they actually two different individuals with potentially different personalities or even memory blackouts where they don’t know what the other form did or how much time has passed?

I have started a character sheet for Ion linked here in the first post! I just put a filler power in their as a place holder for now.

IonName: Morgan Matthews
Supranym: Ion

Sex: Female
Age: 22
Powers: Chemancy

Appearance: Outrageously attractive, Morgan's wavy red hair hangs to frame her face. The red drapes are marked by some blue-green highlights and ends. Her face is has angular features, cat-like eyes sit below brown eyebrows and feature light blue irises. Thin lips are also coloured red, a moderate exhibition of her vanity. Around her neck sits the remnants of a mishap with her powers, a black ring. Which is why she mostly covers it with scarves. Her figure is quite enviable, standing tall at 5'10'' and the majority of her fat reserves at the right places.

In everyday life Morgan wears mostly simple clothes: A plain top with a patterned blouse, form-fitting jeans or leggings and scarves are a favorite, though in summer long dresses are more common. The supersuit is a bit of a constant. A simple black nylon suit is accesorised with a white long coat and a black belt going over the coat. On her feet she wears a pair of reflective boots with high heels coming up to just below her knees. Close inspection reveals that the super suits fabric is quite thick, even in summer, this gives her more material to work with to restructure. Since a few months she's also added a cape and a cowl to her supersuit, both of which are rimmed with threads of silver.

Personality Fun-loving, hyperactive and extroverted are all features Morgan is known for. Beyond that the young-woman is quite flexible and tenacious, with a real problem solving attitude and enough creativity to see any problem from a different angle. It depends on the iteration of Kamen Rider, although with the new era many have multiple forms/armors and once in a while one of them is a berserker. But the usual starting forms are mostly a physical change... unless something about the nature of the invaders precludes a different consciousness in the form of this character?

What are the usual average characteristics? I was thinking the normal human form would be mostly average beyond having a stunning appearance, and the transformed version would have better characteristics.

Or should I lay off on the stats for now that I don't really grasp well yet and write up a profile or something, like what Sirviantis did above?

A profile would be a good place to start, yes! I have some ideas, though it might be fun if even you didn't know the whole story at first...

You don't have to tell me details of the invaders, just what sort of things his power could develop into, and he could always just start with just really being good at punching and kicking and jumping XD

I'll see what I can cook up! I'm kinda busy tomorrow, though >.>

Hmm, I've seen you give me the google doc, but so far I havn't managed to get it open, just keeps loading the file infinitely. I ran into the same problem opening the blank sheets you gave us in the intro post and I fixed it then, I'm just not sure how. It could be that it's a pdf file, as so far I've been building my character in the spreadsheet (God I love spreadsheets) file format... I suppose I'll just continue making the character for now and copy everything over whenever I'm ready or whenever I figure out how to open the PDF.

Oh, thought I'd add, the other file, the .hdc one I can't open either, but mostly because neither me nor my google drive knows how to open. I googled it, but then google told me it's primarily associated with HD tach by Simpli software and I thought that would be too niche to be the answer I need. Basically, what is it, what's it do and how do I open it?

Update: I've made progress on the character sheet, I think... THINK I've only got to do powers and limitations, though I honestly havn't read that far in the book.

Oh, I spent some time looking through the complications when DNPC and hunted caught my eye. Question is, could the DNPC also be the hunter? The idea was to create an NPC that puts Morgan in front of an emotionally difficult obstacle (Once she found out)

Okay, this sounds crazy, but bear with me: The DMPC itself would be weak and helpless BUT they'd have some sort of superpower to mutate animals into savage monster-creatures and have those hunt Morgan. All the while the NPC itself would keep it's head down and "run for their life" to both get a better look at what's happening and maybe be close enough to stealthily direct his monsters.

It's a rough idea for now, and I've yet to develop the concept into an actual NPC and write them into the backstory, but let me know. If not, I might still get the two complications but have them seperate from one another.

Another, back up way to view character sheets!

Another, back up way to view character sheets!

Okay, now that I figured out how to do images so that everyone can see them, let's tackle character sheets.

Up to now I have been linking Google Doc folders for each character, and putting a PDF export from Hero Designer in there. I at one point was using RTF exports. Sometimes people can't see one or the other.

So here is a failsafe (I think) back up:

1) Download the free app "Hero System Mobile" to your smart phone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...tools&hl=en_US

2) Click on the link in the Campaign Information thread to your character name. https://www.rpgcrossing.com/showthread.php?t=191311

3) Download the .hdc file with your character name to your smart phone.

4) Open the Hero System Mobile app and choose "Load" to browse your phone for the .xml file, and load it.

5) Select "View" in the app, and you should see all the info about your character.
