Name: Alexander “McFly” Black Metatype: Elf Archetype and Role: Face/Infiltrator
Description/Background:
Alexander was born in Burbank California in 2049. His parents were well off and his mother was a geneticist for an AA Corporation and did some tinkering with her future son’s genetic code. He spent his childhood growing in his parent’s large Apartment and was fairly free to roam the corporate compound, but he was never allowed to leave. Looking back now as an adult he had been experimented on and was being observed. I would imagine genetically altered Elf Adept make for good test subjects.
When he was 6 his father died in a car crash and his mother threw herself into her work and let the nanny handle most things. Mrs. Oliver was a wonderful lady and encouraged Alexander in so many ways despite his situation. When Alexander was 13, Mrs. Oliver passed away suddenly and he basically took care of himself from then on out, not that he could go anywhere to get into trouble. His mother by this time was still busy with her work and supposedly a new young lab assistant so was still completely absent.
He was 15 the AA corp was in the middle of a hostile takeover when crash 2.0 hit. He used the sudden confusion as an opportunity to escape. He could only run so far and ended up on Las Vegas where he stayed for several years. He used his talents to run a variety of scams on tourists. He was always a loner even when running with crews. His mantra was to do his job well but look out for yourself first.
In 2066 he ended up on a run to Miami Florida and while there meet Ana Serrano. She was a very charismatic and attractive Cuban Human. To his surprise he found himself smitten by her. After his mission he returned to the PCC but couldn’t get her out of his head so about a week later he returned back to Florida to go and find her. She was waiting at the airport when he arrived. They were a couple almost instantly, weird how fate works like that sometimes.
Ana was also a Physical Adept and trained him and taught him. She was of the Wuxing Tradition and taught him how to focus his powers and grow them. She helped him with most of him Qi Foci both bonding them, but also designing them.
She ran a small crew and between their combined talents could run some crazy tricks. They were highly successful at run scams on corporations who kept sending temporary executives to help make things better, to only be replaced when things didn’t get better…imagine that. Alexander enjoyed these years and this time. It was a tight crew that had each other’s backs and the first time he felt like he was part of a family. He was also happy and in love.
In late 2073 they were running an easy scam, and he was stuck on lookout duty outside in the car. Because the scam was a done deal he started to zone out on MeFeed and was oblivious to the scam going sideways. They were all gone that fast, he wasn’t paying attention and doesn’t know if he could have helped.
He ran after that and ended up in Mississippi and Alabama, to make ends meet he started running in social circles and getting older divorcees to faun over him and buy him gifts. This also lead to gambling and his current predicament. He lost a big bet and was planning on skipping out before finding out his debt was owed to Juan “Matador” Guerra, who was the local mob boss. After a thorough beating, he has starting working off his debt as fast as he can which lead him to the shadows.
Delia “Copperhead” Leblanc Talismonger
Female Elf
Connection: 4 Loyalty: 2
McFly has a little internal chuckle everytime she visits Delia, because she looks like a stereotypical Voodoo Witch you see in the Trids. She has a shabby house out in the swamp covered in moss that is hard to get too. But don’t be fooled, she is very good at what she does and is well known in the community. Don’t mess with a Copperhead.

Name: Akila Real Name (Fake SIN): Ernie French Metatype: Shapeshifter (Bald Eagle/Human) Archetype and Role: Mage
Description/Background:
A pair of bald eagles nested atop an immense cypress tree deep in the bayou in southern Mississippi. They had no way of knowing, but their nest was in the center of a powerful ley nexus. They only had one chick, but he was very special – born a magical being, and as smart as an intelligent human by the time he could fly. He discovered that people had built a circle of stones in the water, surrounding the clearing which the tree he'd hatched in was in the center of. From on high, he watched and listened, as they did strange things in the circle, and he followed them to dry land where he watched them live their lives. They were druids, and they noticed him watching them almost immediately; but their respect for the wetlands and the wildlife meant that they just let him be, curious about what he would do.
After a couple of years, when he thought he had figured out how they talked, he tried to interact with them, and found that he could take a human form. The druids were very welcoming, and as self-selected protectors of the bayou, they were thrilled to have a native wild creature join their group. They taught the eagle magic, and named him Akila; but he got bored of hanging out in the Bayou, and eventually went to the city to explore other parts of human life.
While there, he met another shapeshifter, Spike, an awakened Rottweiler fixer who kept tabs on the shapeshifter community and helped them out with the problems of living in the modern world. When Akila realized he needed money and asked Spike, he introduced Akila to Delilah, a human woman whose father was a successful senator, and had connections all over the CAS, bridging the gap between legitimate political power and the shadows. She found Akila to be a handsome, agreeable human; and she found him work in the shadows, and contacts; an ancient, disagreeable elf, who could get his hands on the best magical supplies; and a Johnson named Remy who has frequent work for ERLA.
Akila has a pretty carefree life. He rents a very nice apartment at the top of one of the higher buildings in Jackson, where he set up his own little druid circle. He enjoys human luxuries and exploring the city (being careful to conceal his comings and goings). He's happy that his work for ERLA allows him to stick it to the corps, he has a natural affinity for going after the big bad guy (that was the reason he was chosen by Dragonslayer at the druidic mentor ceremony).
Name: C#ufe Real Name, if different: Daniel Moniac Metatype: Human Archetype and Role: Technoshaman,
Background:
"Before the people came" is a traditional opening to myths in some Native American groups. I'm giving a hat-tip to that and acknowledging that I begin this background before the NAN was established. Before the people left...
Long before the awakening or the Ghost Dance War, the Poarch Creek group of Alabama remained in U.S.- controlled land as their people were forced through a grueling, thousand-mile trek to new homes. The Poarch Creeks stayed behind from a combination of loyalty and privilege, some lucky enough to hold land under U.S. law, many of them having married Scottish and Irish settlers in the area. Among them were the Moniacs. Like other First Nations people in the U.S., they suffered under various forms of mistreatment for the majority of U.S. History. And yet, they persevered. They made a place for themselves. They made a name for themselves.
When The Awakening happened in 2011, Clarence and Karen Moniac-- farmers northeast of Mobile, AL-- were among those who found themselves with magical powers. They didn't join the other First Nations people in their fight for independence, though. The Moniacs were more connected to their home and community than a hodgepodge of cultures they had never been part of. Instead, they used their newfound power to improve their community (and their own wealth and power in the area), going from a couple of nobodies to one of the most influential couples in the region. As their influence grew, so did their attachment to the life and culture of the newly-emerging Confederation of American States. For two generations, the Moniacs have lived large, working their way into minor-to-midlevel political and corporate positions in the region, thriving off their grandparents' success and the nepotistic advantages it gave them. None of them were awakened-- but they had the two greatest magics of all, Creature of Comfort (Middle)wealth and influence.
The only member of the extended family to be unhappy with this privileged life was David Moniac. Born in 2057, shortly before the Second Matrix Crash of 2064. When the fallout of the crash was finished, David began Technomancerhaving the bizarre ability to access the Matrix without the need for tech. His parents and grandparents, hearing from their connections about the abductions and experiments on individuals like David, made sure that he wasn't among the unfortunates. A favor here, a greased palm there, and keeping David out of public schools and off of the social media Hosts where a young child might easily let loose a secret.
While isolated and protected at home, David had all the time in the world to explore the web. A curious child, he started probing through history. That's where he learned about the old Matrix-- the "internet"-- and all the coding and strangeness that it involved. He also learned about his family's connection to the native people of the area, and their refusal to join the NAN. He became fascinated with the history of his people, and latched on to it as an identity he never before knew he had. He used his abilities to create the friends that he couldn't find elsewhere-- Resonance Stream: Technoshamansprites fashioned out of the archetypal creatures of myth. He spent more and more time, delving further and into more obscure areas of the Matrix to learn of his people. In the wee hours of the morning when he was 14 years old, David slipped into an area of the Matrix that he shouldn't have been able to reach-- a Resonance Realm. To this day, he still can't fully describe what happened to him there. All he knows (or believes, really) is that he spoke with the Creek over-deity, the creator of manMaster of Breath, who told him that he and his family had been blessed by him, which is why they were so prosperous. Believing that his eyes ad been opened, David rebelled. He was angry at his parents and grandparents for turning their back on their people. He began absorbing everything he could about the history of the Muskogee tribes, and exploring their way of life when he could-- learning to tell the stories, Outdoors Skill Groupdemanding camping outings into the swamps of the CAS, and generally being the spoiled rich child that he was. The culture and mythology filled him, standing in for all of the social interaction he was often denied for his own protection.
By a merciful twist of fate, this made David employable. Partially in exasperation, David's mother got him a job at Evo in Mobile, working in sample procurement. Tasks were assigned to collect specimens from dangerous rural areas for genetics and transhumanist research-- including parabiological specimens. It allowed David to live out his fantasies of hunts, Animal Empathyworking with wildlife and campfire tales. Of course, David was always paired with people far more skilled than he for his own protection. He Unarmed combat, ranged weapons skills, piloting ground vehicleslearned much from these highly-skilled employees. With the added bonus of a paycheck fatter than he deserved. There were too many days, though, with no active assignment. On days like that, David had to be present in local Evo offices researching various Evo endeavors and giving "expert" feedback on reports. Something that bored the young man to no end. So he began using his technomancer powers to... "Matrix Troll" qualityhave fun. Asking sprites to make little changes or insertions. Introducing tiny typos here and there to make foul words. Popping in ancient internet memes where they didn't belong. The kind of things bored kids do.
Then... then David made a teeny tiny mistake. He slightly misworded a request of a sprite... and instead of inserting an old internet meme into a report on Rougarou sightings, David replaced every single report in the database-- including a remote backup-- with the same file. The action immediately earned the attention of corporate executives. Several millions of dollars worth of missions were lost-- some were recovered by Evo's coding team, but others were irretrievable. Were it not for who David and his family were, he would have been worse than dead. Instead, Corporate Pariah II (Evo)he was immediately fired, his corporate SIN revoked, a pariah. While his parents and brother saved his skin, they couldn't be associated with him any longer. They set David up with a few months' rent in Jackson, MI, and told him it's better if he doesn't contact them again.
David survived for a short while, coasting off of the wealth that his family had set up for him, something that he had done all his life. But eventually, the cash ran out. Particularly quickly, since the young man tended to buy whatever he wanted, whenever he liked. Without a SIN, he couldn't very well get a job. He made the idiotic error that so many do, and Bad Creditbegan taking out loans from places one shouldn't get loans from. And when thugs came-a-knocking, he could either pay in blood, or pay in work. Quite liking his kneecaps and neurons where they were, David agreed to work off his debts, taking on the alias "C#ufe", and the persona of a human-sized, somewhat cybernetic-looking rabbit. After several jobs, he had paid off his debt... and found that it was quite a lucrative living.
C#ufe faces the world with an excited curiosity. Despite the hardships he's faced (far less than most in the Sixth World), things have always worked out well for him. He doesn't really recognize that most of that "luck" has actually been a result of his privilege protecting him from the consequences of his actions. So he faces life with, overall, a cheery and at times carefree attitude. This is often the outlook that he has when leaving behind "jokes" and "memes" in files when there's no reason to, and when it is surely an unnecessary risk.
C#ufe also has a completely unwarranted confidence that his grandparents and parents made the wrong decision to remain in the CAS-- he is a true believer that the Master of Breath spoke with him in the resonance, and that his family was blessed. Of course, his own hypocrisy doesn't really cross his mind. After all, C#ufe has not left the CAS and joined the NAN. He believes that he, of course, is making the right decision to remain where he is and do what he does here, as it is surely what the Master of Breath would want. He believes this with the entirely unwarranted self-assurance and confidence that only the young and the stupid can.
C#ufe doesn't hide his quality of life IRL. He dresses comfortably, and in clothes that (while not high-end) are stylish enough, and tailored to his body. He doesn't know how else to live and dress himself. He's also never without his commlink. While he often doesn't use it, he learned at a young age how important it is to at least pretend that he's not a Technomancer. Even though the Confederation has been more forward-thinking and welcoming of people who are different, there's no reason to flaunt his unique abilities.
Within the Matrix, C#ufe takes on a number of different Fursonae, all based loosely on figures from the mythology that he enjoyed as a child. His favorite, though-- particularly for Runs-- is that of a cybernetic anthropomorphic rabbit. He loves to envision himself as an incarnation of the trickster-god of his people.
A parabiologist found deep in the swamps of Louisiana, Harjo served as a valuable contact for David Moniac during his time at Evo. He knew the general stomping grounds (and dangers) of the more obscure creatures that Evo required. Why the shapeshifter remained so far away from most people, David was instructed to never ask. Often, the shapeshifter would request particular organs from animals that the group was capturing or hunting. On one outing, David mentioned a new action trideo that was being released, and Harjo inquired what that meant. David produced a Trideo player (with a solar charger, of course), and let the man watch the entire trid. Harjo loved it. Particularly any scene that had blood. From then on, it was understood that any time David came for aid or information, he was to bring several new action trideos of the highest visual quality possible... the gorier, the better.
Vicky (Victoria Jones) - Dwarven Corporate Scientist (Evo) - Jackson Evo Labs
Vicky was one of David's coworkers when he was at Evo. The first couple of years he was there, she would come to David requesting that he perform the less savory jobs around the lab-- cleaning up messes that specimens had made, mostly. David couldn't say that he liked the relationship, exactly, but it got him the hell away from all of those boring reports, so he said "yes" every single time. In return, Vicky would be sure to request David's team be put on any assignments that David was particularly interested in. The two generally had a friendly relationship. Despite Vicky's hard work, she was a loving mother with several children, and David helped the little ones to learn about the Matrix in the evenings sometimes. The children loved the little animal-creatures that David would make for them, even though David made them promise to never tell anyone about them. For Vicky's part, she just knew that the kids liked their tutor, and so she liked him. Vicktoria was relocated from the Mobile offices to Jackson a year before David's fatal mistake. While she knows that he's a Pariah, she thinks that the jokes David made were funny-- even though the last one was a terrible mistake. She still likes him, even if she wants to keep him at arm's length for her own career. (OOC Note: I fully expect the Corporate Pariah II penalty to apply to Vicky.)
Beau Moniac - Human Grassroots Politician - Mobile, AL
Beau is David's older brother. The two grew up incredibly close until 2064, when David's technomancer nature was revealed. After that, David had to be kept largely out of public view (for his own sake, and the sake of the family). For a few years, the two still spent plenty of time together. They both loved roleplaying games, and would run around pretending to be medieval knights or wizards, slaying dragons and demons alike. Eventually, though, Beau drifted away into his own circles in RL or Hosts where David was forbidden from going. The two grew apart. As David fell more and more into the Rabbit-holes of the Matrix, Beau began making a name for himself, shaking hands, making waves in the world. He worked his way into local politics. Beau was always more successful and accepted than David was, in part because he was a die-hard patriot to the CAS, it's culture, and its people. This especially drove a rift between the two when David discovered his love for the culture of their ancestors. Beau was disgusted and enraged with David when the younger brother made his mistake at Evo, yelling about how David could have destroyed not only himself, but the entire Moniac family. The two often don't talk now... but will sometimes exchange secure messages through the Matrix; sometimes they are nostalgic and deep or apologetic. Other times they are terse and entirely business. However, Beau knows that David has several very embarrassing videos of the politician doing ridiculous things or yelling profanities in the trideo games they played as kids. It wouldn't devastate Beau, but it would sure be a setback to his career if they were to be leaked... And Beau still does love to play games in secret now and again, but he doesn't have time to keep track of every new release. So David keeps his eye out for the latest game that he thinks his brother would love.
When Beau was low on money and couldn't get a job, he went looking for loans. Of course, being without a SIN (even a fake one), he couldn't get resources from any reputable banker... so he turned to darker groups. Re:POS' crew was the group that David turned to. The A.I. and its gang made money through two major means-- taking on repossession contracts for corporations that needed "contractors" and giving out loans to those that the knew (or believed) couldn't pay them back in time. David was one of the latter marks. When, inevitably, the bill came due, David was given the choice of having everything he owned taken, and then some, or doing work for Re:POS and its gang. That began a year-long series of shadowruns that David performed for Re:POS and its allies. It could be said that Re:POS turned David into what he is today-- C#ufe. Once David had paid off his debt-- and bought his freedom-- he even performed a few more jobs with Re:POS for the extra cash. The A.I. loves being paid in Corp Scrip, because it gives an easy excuse to send its members into corporate hosts for intel gathering and other nefarious purposes.
Secret:
Still new to all this. I imagine that C#ufe would look at a person in the "real world" first, even though he's a Technomancer, only because he's had it drilled into him by his parents. But almost immediately after, he would check them out matrix-wise. Probably a matrix perception check, I guess?
