Name: Fen Dell
Age: 22
Birthday: Spring 6
Background: Super Senior (custom).
Class(es): Hobbyist, Researcher (Botany & General Education)
Would love to encounter: absol, flygon, tangela, umbreon, sableye, keckleon, paras, psyduck, slowpoke, koffing, ralts, aipom
Potential interests: Fen is a collector of natural specimens, with a particular interest in geology and plant identification, although her interest in these subjects has lagged somewhat as she hasn't been out collecting in some time. She also loves to read (mostly comics, adventure and romance) and skateboards as her primary means of transport.
Description:
Fen is average height and weight. She has long hair which she keeps tied back most of the time. She is quick but not terribly strong.
She is sloppy, chaotic, and an awful student. She often misses or is late for class, but she does have a natural curiosity and intuition towards her studies. She can sometimes be spacey. She is a pacifist by nature, but she does have a big mouth and lots of opinions. She likes to play support for the younger students, as it gives her an excuse not to focus on her own studies.
Fen's parents were both a bit kooky and conspiracy-minded, traits which Fen has picked up. She has a healthy suspicion towards authority figures, especially when it comes to the treatment of pokemon.

Backstory and Relationships:
Fen was born on the Sapphire Coast and moved around extensively as a child and in her early teens because her mother was an Pokemon researcher. Eventually, her father grew sick of moving and the family settled in Zy'hali. At that point, Fen had been training at the various academies where the family lived. She took what transfer credits she could and enrolled in Zy'hali's Academy, hoping to follow in her mother's footsteps.
About half way through her schooling, Fen’s mother went out on a research trip and was killed in a landslide caused by a Pokemon at the base of Mount Aor'wu. Distraught, Fen found that the pain caused by her mother's death left her too paralyzed by fear to venture out into the world. She dropped out of the academy for the next two years, unable to fully move forward because she was unwilling to leave the safety of civilization.
After years of fear and working for low wages, Fen's sister finally convinced her to carry on living her life. Although Fen still lacks confidence, she has decided it is more than time to leave the safety of civilization and make a real attempt to graduate and has re-enrolled in school, only to discover none of her credits are worth anything anymore... troublesome.
Tekla Dell (left), Fen’s elder sister. Tekla is five years older and married to a Zy’hali native. She runs a Pokémon boutique in town and is an unabashed girly-girl. Her Pokemon is a Granbull named Boots.
Ward Grey (right), Fen’s closest non-school friend. They met stocking shelves at the local grocery and though he moved on to a job in tech, the two still see each other regularly. His Pokemon is an Duskull named Mort.
Fen is also close with her father, but he lives in a more remote area after her mother passed.
RP Sample:
Fen stood at the southern edge of the Zygens Jungle with her arms crossed tightly over her chest, her skateboard held in place under one foot, and Duck hopping around her ankles.
“Would you knock it off?” Fen hissed down at the frolicking oddish. Duck carried on and Fen pressed one hand into her temple, realizing that even now she was still whispering, afraid that something might hear her and charge out of the thick underbrush. She knew she wouldn’t be able to avoid leaving town much longer, with her re-enrollment in school beginning the next day.
Duck bumped his little body into her calf and bounced off, then looked up at her with a trill that sounded an awful lot like, Woman up, sissy! Fen saw the glint in the oddish’s eye that only meant trouble and dove to snatch him up, but Duck was already running as fast as his little legs would carry him into the bushes.
“No,” Fen moaned, hustling up to the tree line and peering in, the skateboard abandoned in the grass behind her. “No, no, nonononono come on! Duck why?!”
Somewhere nearby she heard Duck make a gleeful cry. “You are in so much trouble! Seriously! You better hope I don’t come in there!” She waited another moment and when Duck didn’t come back she stamped her foot, touched the lucky star pendant her mother had given her and dove in head first.
It was bright enough at the very edge of the jungle, but seeing as the tallest part of Duck was made of the same broad leaves as the surroundings, Fen didn’t have much hope in finding him. She slunk through the trees uneasily, trying to hear any small sound over the blood pounding in her ears, until she reached a small open patch. Duck was sitting on a small rock with a smug smile on his face.
“Sir Ambrose Duckworth the Third you get your little ass back over here right now,” Fen said, pointing at the ground in front of her feet. A look of fear spread over his features and Fen smiled, knowing she had won the round, until she noticed Duck’s eyes were looking somewhere over her shoulder. She whipped around and choked on a scream.
Behind her, looming in the shadows, was a hulking rhyhorn with its small, glittering eyes set on her. Fen was frozen for a moment. She looked at the rhyhorn. It looked at her and snorted. “Okay,” Fen said in a tiny voice, and everything snapped into motion. The rhyhorn began charging and Fen turned around and scrambled away, seizing Duck as she went. Before she could begin shouting “stun spore,” she felt Duck tense and release the dust behind them.
The two burst through the trees and Fen tumbled over her own feet, rolling into the grass where her skateboard was laying. It was quiet; either the rhyhorn wasn’t interested in chasing them further, or the stun spore had worked. Fen laid on her back with Duck on her chest for what felt like an hour. Duck leaned over her face as if asking, Are you okay?
Fen mentally checked herself over… no broken bones… no pain… she started to laugh, and it poured out of her until tears were streaming down her face. She gathered Duck into her arms, squeezing him, and said, “Not yet, Duck, but I think I will be.”

A short young woman with long, silky black hair and pale blue eyes that remind you of the night sky, Amelia looks fairly unassuming and would not be easily picked out of a crowd of young women her age. Small in stature, but quick, she slips in and out of view as easily as a shadow flees the daylight, always wearing a forlorn sort of expression. She seems to prefer plain clothing, though she dresses up for special occasions, but doesn't put a great deal of work into her appearance. She seems to drift along, like a piece of wood caught in the slow, steady breathing of the tide. Perhaps the most defining feature about her, however, is that she is a mute, though the cause for this ailment isn't present known.
Personality
A reserved individual whose muteness compounds her already lacking social skills, Amelia tends to keep to herself, tightly clutching onto her phone--which serves as her primary method of communication with others via text-to-voice applications--and in general seeming like she's trying to avoid being noticed. Aside from teachers or staff, she rarely approaches anyone, and always takes the shortest route to her destination.
Wishes, Goals and Motivations
Amelia's motivations and goals are surprisingly lacking for someone who applied to an adventurer's academy, but she seems to be open-minded enough to try new things. In reality, she really doesn't know what she wants to do other than to make her foster sisters proud, and even then, she isn't really sure how to do that. Nevertheless, she's determined to find a way to make her own mark, even if she has to break down a few of her own walls to do it.
Character Backstory
An orphan who was found at the scene of a Pokemon attack, she remembers precious little from her life before the aforementioned event at the age of six and has since then been under the care of her guardian, Molly Tespin, who was the one that found her. She also has a foster sister, Franny.
Following her adoption by the Tespins, both of whom she affectionately refers to as her 'elder sisters', she slowly grew out of being a sickly little girl into a quiet, reserved young woman. Now at the age where her sisters had started their careers as adventurers, Amelia feels like it's time for her to do the same.

Age:17
Smaller than most kids his age, Fex has always been picked on. And his unusual style and dark demeanor haven't made him any more popular. He prefers the company of dusty old books to other teenagers, and most nights his only companion is his Unown, Zee.
Despite his dark demeanor, Fexler actually had a very happy childhood, with a loving mother and father. But all of that changed the day his father disappeared. Dr. Thurston Morgenstjern was an archaeologist and adventurer studying ancient ruins outside of the Zy'hali civilized region. When Fexler was 12 years old, his father left for a dig, the most important of his career, and never returned. Thurston had vanished without a trace while exploring a chamber deep within the ruins. Fexler idolized his father, and took his disappearance very hard. He immediately became withdrawn, taking to wearing dark clothing and piercings. His studies began to suffer, and his mother worried about the path he was going down. But then one night, while brooding on the basement that had served as his father's study, Fexler saw a strange shadow in the corner of the room. But when he tried to focus, the shadow slid across the floor and beneath a rug. Fexler went to investigate, but when he lifted the rug he didn't find any strange shadows. Instead he found a hidden hatch in the floorboards containing an old trunk. Curious, Fexler opened the trunk, which contained several very old books, some of his father's notebooks, written in some sort of code, and a fragment of an ancient clay tablet inscribed with strange symbols. Fexler had no idea what the tablet said, but as his eyes floated across the strange script he almost thought he heard himself speaking along with the words. As he read the final line, he realized that he had been reading aloud. Confused, he looked up from the tablet, only to realize that he was no longer in his father's basement study. Somehow, he had been transported to a strange chamber. The entire room was made of stone, and had the feeling of being deep underground, and was obviously ancient. There was no apparent light source, but the entire room was lit with an eerie, ambient purple glow. But the most prominent feature was the strange symbols carved into every surface, the same symbols on his father's clay tablet! Fexler was busy studying the inscriptions when he saw the strange shadow out of the corner of his eye again. But this time, when he turned his head, the shadow didn't disappear. Instead, he found himself face to face with a strange creature, resembling nothing so much as one of the symbols on the wall. As Fexler stared into the strange creature's single eye, it almost seemed that he could feel the creature trying to communicate with him. He felt strangely drawn to this thing, which he could only assume must be some sort of Pokemon. Before he realized it, he was reaching toward the creature. As his fingers brushed the Pokemon, he felt an intense jolt throughout his body. His vision went white, and for the briefest moment he became one with the Unown. When his vision returned he was back in his father's study, and the unusual Pokemon was there with him. Fexler had heard of the bond, of course, and he knew that he had somehow bonded with this Pokemon. Fex noticed something else that has changed; his right arm was now marked with the same glyphs from the walls of the ruins. From that day forward, Fexler's behavior took another complete turn. His rebellious streak ended, for the most part. The clothes and piercings stayed, but after the discovery of the trunk in the basement, Fex was determined to figure out what his father was working on and why he disappeared. A voice in the back of his head told him that Thurston was still alive, and Fexler was determined to find him if he was. But as Fexler dug deeper into his father's research he became obsessed with solving the ancient mysteries that his father had uncovered. At the age of 17, give years after his father's disappearance and four years after his discovery in the basement, Fexler enrolled in Lythia academy, where he hoped to learn the skills he needed to discover his father's fate and solve the mystery of the Unown...
Seeker of Ancient Secrets(custom). Adept in Occult Education, novice in General Education, pathetic in Athletics, Combat, and Intimidate.
Rune Master, Researcher, Type Ace (psychic and dark)
Starter: Unown(Z)
I think the runemaster class comes with a built-in way to encounter Unowns. Other than that, Fex would likely be interested in mysterious Pokemon of the dark, psychic, and ghost types. Sigilyph, Solosis Alolan Raichu, Galarian Ponyta, Eevee(Umbreon, Espeon), Houndor, Murkrow, Zorua, Deino, Nickit, Spiritomb, Litwick, Runerigus, Dreepy, just to name a few.
Fexler doesn't socialize much, spending most of his time in the academy library. He would likely gravitate towards clubs involving the occult or leaning, especially ancient languages or symbols.
3 Years Ago "Look, here comes that loser Fexler! Hey Fexler, you draw those tattoos on your arm with a marker? Ha ha, what a weirdo!" Fexler was deaf to the bully's taunting. He continued walking, eyes forward, drowning out the world. His only concern was the envelope clutched in his hand. He barely even noticed when the bully's soda exploded across the side of his face, soaking his hair and dripping down his shirt. Fexler was used to such harassment, and had learned to ignore even the worst treatment by his peers. Fear kept Fexler from responding. Not fear of the bullies. No, what Fexler feared came from deep within himself. A darkness that constantly threatened to surface. A darkness that he didn't dare set free. But today it wasn't the darkness that kept Fexler from retaliating. He was simply too happy to let anything bother him. Because he held in his hand, crumpled and soaked with the sweat from his palm, the key to his future, to solving the mystery of his father's disappearance. As Fexler made his way into his home and unslung his backpack from his shoulder, he was greeted by his mother. "Hey sweetie, how was your- my dear, you're a mess! Let's get you into the kitchen and get you cleaned up. Oh, what's that you have there?" "It's from Lythia Academy, mom. I, I got in!" "Oh dear, honey, not this again. I know it's hard, but it's been two years. You need to accept that your father's death is-" "He's not dead, mom! I've told you! And now I can learn what I need to prove it! Why can't you just support me?!" "Oh, honey," Fexler mother began tearing up, "I'm just so worried. Being an adventurer is dangerous. What if something happens to you, like it did to your father? Oh,I just couldn't take it…" "Oh mom, I know your worried", Fexler wrapped his arms around his mother comfortingly, "but I'm not a kid anymore. I can't just give up on dad. I know he's out there somewhere. Zee came to me for a reason!" As if on cue, the Unown materialized in the kitchen, emitting the strange humming noise which was the only sound it ever made. "Oh, sweetheart, of it's that important to you", his mother said, wiping a tear from her cheek, "I suppose we should get you some new clothes, and you'll need supplies…" "Thank you, mom! You have no idea what this means to me! " Fexler yelled, taking his mother into a tight embrace. Ellie Morgenstjern hadn't seen her son this happy since he'd lost his father. Maybe him attending Lythia Academy wouldn't be such a bad thing, after all…

Quiet and distant, Anansa prefers the company of Pokémon to people.

Anansa
Age: 18
Description: Most people can tell something is a bit off about Anansa just by the way she moves. She looks mostly normal - well, besides the red eyes - but she has some mannerisms that are just ever-so-slightly off-putting. Anansa doesn't blink, for one, except when prompted to do so. She prefers to stick near walls and corners, and given her lanky build (standing at 6'2") she gives off an intimidating, almost predatory air, watching people from the back of the room. Anansa is always wearing gloves, except when she's off on an adventure or showing off her abilities, and wears long-sleeved jackets even in the warmest of weather. In short, the young woman is just a teensy bit creepy.
It does not help that Anansa doesn't exactly have what one might call a "sparkling personality." She's quiet and solitary in nature by the most charitable of descriptions, and by others she's a bitter recluse. Oh, she doesn't mind watching people from a distance, but she prefers them just so: at a distance. Anansa speaks as little as she can, preferring to communicate non-verbally when possible... if at all.
Despite all that and her seemingly poor education, Anansa has a definite talent for working with Pokemon, especially Bug Pokemon. The girl has more patience with them than she does with people, and seems to relish the idea of going out to explore the great wilderness.
To those few Anansa calls friends, she can be a little warmer, if still distant. She prefers her distance, her silent watch, her peace and quiet. But at the Academy, Anansa doesn't yet have any such friends. Everyone and everything is strange and alien to her, and she needs time to process how she feels about it all.
Backstory: In the forests near Zy'hali there are a few villages unaffiliated with any of the CRs. One of these is Zahana, a village with no electricity and very little access to the technological marvels of the current era. Self-sustaining and largely independent, Zahana is far from the safest place to live, and strange happenings that would be uncommon elsewhere seem common there.
One such strange happening took place twelve years ago. The village elders had received reports of a strange creature having been sighted, never distinct enough to make out, but clearly robbing the storehouse of food. Concocting a plan to catch this creature, the elders were surprised to discover it was no Pokemon, but rather a strange, wild girl crawling about on all fours, clearly no older than six years of age. They were ultimately able to catch the starving child, and the village took her in as one of their own. It was hard, but they helped her become a bit more civilized, giving her the name Anansa.
There was always something odd about Anansa, of course, but the village didn't understand just how strange until she grew older. The girl started producing silk from the palms of her hand. She was somehow climbing up on top of things nobody had a right to be able to reach. She was just... capable of things that seemed less human than they did Pokemon. The elders had no idea what to make of the matter, and decided to reach out to a contact in civilization for help.
It just so happened that the contact in question was an adventurer that worked for the Lythia Academy, and Anansa's strange nature was intriguing. While Elementalism wasn't common, it wasn't unheard of, and Anansa was displaying clear signs of Bug Elementalism. That meant the girl had promise as an adventurer herself. After speaking with the young woman, the adventurer offered to take Anansa back with her to the Lythia Academy so that she could one day explore the world herself and perhaps have a chance to learn more about the nature of her strange abilities.
Anansa ultimately agreed. It wasn't a perfect arrangement to her, but it was... acceptable. She has since become a student at the Lythia Academy and is slowly adapting to her life in what is essentially an entirely different world.
Being from a "barbaric" village, things like books and computers are pretty alien to Anansa. Sure, her community had purchased some clothes and a few oddities from more civilized parts of the world before, but having so much knowledge and information at her fingertips is foreign to Anansa, and she's ill-equipped for book learning. Still, it's something she's willing to subject herself to if it means having a chance to see the world and the creatures in it.
Background (PTU mechanical): Wild Child
Class(es): Swarmlord (Elementalist); possibly taking Survivalist as well. Not sure beyond that!
Preferred Starting Pokemon/Wishlist: For her starter Pokemon, I'd like for Anansa to have a Spinarak. I definitely want her to get a Joltik (or Galvantula) and a Cutiefly (or Ribombee) later on, but I'm generally open to all the Bug Pokemon, and to whatever else comes up! Oh, and I suppose I generally like the lore behind the Hatterene line of Pokemon.
Potential interests (Optional): Anything outdoorsy is right up Anansa's alley. She also enjoys athletic and fighting competitions, and she has an odd fascination with games of a strategic nature (such as a chess analogue?) though she doesn't have the cleverness to win such contests.
RP Sample (Optional):
The moon was full up above, and the creatures of the night prowled the forest around the sleepy village. Log cabins with thatched roofs sat arrayed in winding circles atop a few hills with cozy little bridges connecting the largest hills. Small footpaths wound lazily about the place, and flowers were in full bloom. It was still summer, and the village of Zahana was as idyllic as ever.
So, too, was the weather. A cool, refreshing breeze swept through the late night sky, and little flying creatures let their wings spread out to enjoy it. Down below in the trees were other creatures, making chirps and hoots and a myriad of other sounds. And Anansa, watching all of it from her window in the cottage nearest the edge of the forest, took it all in, her black hair a mere shadow before the logs of her home.
Home, thought the girl to herself. It was, wasn't it? It hadn't been so long ago that she hadn't considered it such. She vaguely remembered her time before she stayed in Zahana, climbing about the trees, rushing down in the undergrowth, grabbing whatever bits of fruit and roots she could find. She had been freer then, that much she remembered: less constrained, less commanded, less caged. But over time, she had adjusted to the cage she'd been placed in. She knew every house in the village and every person, even if she didn't really talk to many of them. The black-haired girl knew each little garden, each vegetable patch, every berry bush and orchard planted near the village. She knew all of it by heart, and she knew the Pokemon that visited the place in the wee hours of the night, as they were now. And that was... Well, it was comforting.
But she was going to have to adjust again, Anansa knew. She was going to be taken out of the village - My village, she thought to herself, mystified at those two words - and put in some place called an Academy. It sounded very different from Zahana, from home.
The thought of leaving kept Anansa from getting any sleep. She slipped her legs over the windowsill and sat there for a few moments, then dropped on down to the ground below. She made her way down the flower-covered hill and toward the forest ahead, her pale fingers grazing across the top of grass that grew taller and taller the closer she got to the edge, then began to get shorter and thinner as the treeline grew thicker and more prominent. Ancient boughs rose up around her, mighty and proud, as they had stood before generations of humans. Staring up at the tallest of the bunch, Anansa took her gloves and shoes off, and she began to climb.
It was an incredibly tall tree, but that was no obstacle for Anansa. She quietly made her way to the top, using the light of the moon to guide her way. She pulled herself from one branch to the next, and where there were no branches she simply pressed her hands and feet upon the bark and stepped up. She climbed like this for a couple quiet minutes until she found a familiar perch, a branch from which she could look out at the village below.
Being perched so high up, Anansa felt distant and in control. It was a feeling that she liked. She could see a few lights on still down in the village below, see the silhouettes of people speaking with one another in their homes. She spotted a young boy slipping out of his home to meet up with a few friends up to similar mischief, sparking Anansa's curiosity. She wondered what silly business they would get up to. And there was the village's tavern, which even late into the night had its fireplace lit, and there was clapping and dancing and music pouring out from it. Anansa was distant enough that she could not really hear it at all, but she could see the shadows of people prancing about the wooden floor. She was glad she wasn't down there.
As Anansa was watching everything, she saw a familiar green face appear to the right of her, slowly lowering down. No, it wasn't really a face. It was a Spinarak, one she'd met with time and time again at that very spot, and it carefully brought itself down onto a nearby branch.
"I thought you would be here," the girl whispered. She felt the Spinarak's acknowledgement swell in her mind, and the six-legged creature brought itself before her. Smiling softly, Anansa brushed her hand ever-so-slightly across the creature's back. It let her do so, sending simple, pleased thoughts back to her.
"I will be leaving soon," mused Anansa. The finality behind her thoughts traveled to the Spinarak's, and it wondered when she would come back. She answered with a simple shake of her head that told all. There wasn't really a need to say more. A silence fell between them, though all around there were the sounds of the forest.
There was a slight tug that Anansa felt at her wrist. She looked down, and she could see the little Spinarak wrapping a web around her wrist, attaching it firmly to the tree branch. The girl couldn't help but crack a smile, understanding entirely. Her smile only grew as the creature tapped a little leg fiercely upon the tree branch, clearly putting its foot down.
"I can't," answered the girl, looking back out the village. Then she paused. No, that was a lie: nothing was forcing her to leave. So, she answered more truthfully. "I want to see the world," she explained. "There's more forests out there, and mountains, oceans... I want to see them."
Anansa's friend pondered those words for a time. The Spinarak shifted in place, and the human could feel a simple, singular question reverberate in her mind: Why?
To which... Anansa shook her head again and shrugged. She didn't know why. But it felt right to go out there and see what could be seen. It felt natural.
The Spinarak considered that. It watched her for a long moment, then turned to watch the village with her for a longer one still. The moon eased its way across the midnight sky, casting a spotlight on them both. The pair sat in silence.
There wasn't much more to be said, but the hour was growing later and later. Then, suddenly, the Spinarak moved, stepping up along Anansa's arm and slowly but surely making its way to her shoulder. And then... it sat there firmly.
Anansa looked over at the little creature. With her eyebrows, she asked if it was sure. It stamped one foot upon her shoulder firmly. Anansa smiled.
"Thank you," Anansa said quietly, leaning her head upon the little fellow.
The human and the Spinarak spent the rest of the night on that tree branch, watching the village until the moon had set below the horizon. The next morning they traveled together to Lythia Academy.
