Randor the Curious Crofter
Name:
Randor Loraven
Current status:
Dead and crispy
Race:
Human
Occupation:
Crofter
Appearance:
An older, human gentleman with wrinkled, tanned skin. His white hair is mostly hidden under a green flat cap, green like his eyes. Man's face is decorated with bushy brows, a wide moustache and a big nose. He wears loose pants, a grey, chequered shirt and a long, green, open coat. His height is above average around, but it's not noticeable as he is a bit hunched over most of the time.
Personality:
Randor spent most of his life in one place, at his family's farm and as a consequence is very curious about everything new. He loves hearing stories so much, that he often allows travellers to stay at his home for almost free, if they tell a good tale. Randor is a bit too generous and gullible, often getting deceived and fooled by some. However, many see him as a good and reliable man, who tries to see good in everyone.

Know Your Stuff
Do you believe the rumors of supernatural forces at work in the Catacombs beneath Hvitr to be true?
Which rumors? People tell me many things about this place, some contradicting. Maybe? Some of it has to be true.
Did you wager anything on this belief? If yes, with whom?
I'm old enough to know, that wagers are not a good idea, even when you are certain about something.
Do you worship a deity? If so, what is your deity’s relationship with Hvitr, the Lawful god of Storms and Justice?
I'm not a big worshipper but I do believe in Mekita, goddess of life and harvest.
Hvitr? Not sure... Uhm, storm brings rain and rain brings harvest, so I guess they are okay?
Someone you know personally from the village of Bannock has gone missing. Who is it, and what is your relationship to them?
Gertrude, young girl with red, curly hair. She was helping me out at the farm, for food and bed. I haven't seen her for some time... but maybe she just decided to travel a bit?

Kaden the resilient netmaker
Name
Kaden Bedee
Race
Human
Occupation
Netmaker
Appearance
Kaden, or "Kay" as most call him, is young, small, and always a bit disheveled. Dark, thick wavy hair curls around the boy's impish features and shade his glittering eyes. As befits a netmaker's son, the boy spends most of his time on and around the docks, bare feet for purchase on the slippery docks and bare chested whenever the weather permits. Patched and resewn breeches and a rope belt are usually the only clothes he wears. Height and weight are about average for his roughly thirteen years, though the boy is still pretty thin. Kay has a deep olive complexion, further browned from long days in the outdoor air and sun. His fingers are long and lightly calloused from his work with his father tying and repairing nets.
Personality
Generally a relatively quiet kid, Kay can be brash and overly confident in his abilities, often getting him into...well..."spots" might be the right word. When working with his father, he is focused, calm, and an eager apprentice and student. However, when out of Holard's sight and beyond the eyes of the village adults, he becomes much more outgoing, daring and brash, often hatching adventures and pranks with which to entertain himself and his friends. While not particularly strong or quick yet, Kaden has proven extremely resilient, his surprising capacity for discomfort feeding his brashness and overconfidence.
But ultimately, Kay is a bit lonely. His father is a hardworking and kind but stoic and reserved man. A one-time fisher, he lost his leg in a boat accident before Kay was born and lost his wife not long after his son's arrival. Kay spends most of his time divided between his determined, duty-bound widower father and a small band of children similar to himself. He is a child split between his father's example of hard work and duty and the adventures of childhood.

"Of course there's ghosts 'n' fiends 'n' stuff up there. Me da' says it's so, an' me da's no liar. Stay well away from 'em if y'know what's good for yeh.
(in a low, conspiratorial whisper)...but if yeh're quick about it, yeh can get there, grab a rock and get back before any o' them even know yeh're there. Me an' Rollie an' Conjob an' Lisha sneak up there on full moons when it's bright. ...y'know, just to see....

Did you wager anything on this belief? If yes, with whom?
"...well...um..."

"...yeah, I guess, sorta...But it was only a pinch and it was only with us four! I ain't doin' no bettin' with them Guilders. They'll take your fingers. Tha's what me da' says, anyway..."
Do you worship a deity? If so, what is your deity’s relationship with Hvitr, the Lawful god of Storms and Justice?
"What'd'you mean 'what's our relationship with Hvitr'? We pray to Hvitr and Mother and Hvitr and Mother msteer us clear of storms, fill our nets and set the current at our stern and the wind towards home. Psshhhh. What's your relationship with Hvitr."
Someone you know personally from the village of Bannock has gone missing. Who is it, and what is your relationship to them?
"Yeah, Rollie's da'. Got tooken a week or so back. Rollie's ma's tore up about it, but Rollie says it's better when his da' is away anyway, so it's not that bad. Just his ma's crying."

Questions:
Do you believe the rumors of supernatural forces at work in the Catacombs beneath Hvitr to be true?
Yes, I do. There have been strange movements and tales for as long as the town has been around of weird works down there.
Did you wager anything on this belief? If yes, with whom?
No. Not much of a betting man.
Do you worship a deity? If so, what is your deity’s relationship with Hvitr, the Lawful god of Storms and Justice?
Yes, Oghma, God of knowledge, invention, inspiration, bards. It's mostly the bard and inspiration aspects. Oghma likes and follows Hvitr. Hvitr doesn't care at all about Oghma.
Someone you know personally from the village of Bannock has gone missing. Who is it, and what is your relationship to them?
His name was Ali Misri. A young and vigorous man who helped tend to the oxen and other livestock. A coworker, friend and confidant.

The Stranger
Rizír Moonseeker
Name:
Rizír Isilhír
Race:
Elven
Occupation:
Wanderer
Appearance:
Rizír, alike all elves, has a natural comeliness and beauty to him. Born in the spring, his hair is a fair blond and his eyes are the green of new leaves, and he still wears the colors of his birth despite his exile. Rizír's clothes are earthen-toned and woven to give the thought of leaves, brooks and birds. His eyes are cunning, but the misunderstanding bred between elves and all other folk makes him seem alien and strange at times.
Personality:
Rizír is renowned among elves for his Longing. A trait many feel weakly and find in birds and beauty, he finds in magic and the moon. His Longing, felt by the druids, is great and more chaotic than any elf of the Nettlelei has been known to have in generations. This causes him to seem intrusive, empathic and ever-seeking to elves, but to men, Rizír is alike no elf. His desire makes him man-like and easy to talk to. And his long life grants the elf a knowledge that gives simpler folk cause for wonder and abashment.
Too all, he is alike a bard; charming, knowing and flighty.
Bond:
Cedric
and I seek knowledge about arcane forces.
Do you believe the rumors of supernatural forces at work in the Catacombs beneath Hvitr to be true?
I do. Elves have long known that creatures which go against the gods or mistake their place are doomed to haunt the world.
I shall be their kin when I die.
Did you wager anything on this belief? If yes, with whom?
I made a wager with the druid, Olgren. They believe that it is spirits at play there, spirits of the earth and tormented souls burnt in the fires of long ago. This is not so. Tormented souls do not eat cattle. There is a living being up there causing this.
If I am right, Olgren promises to teach me the sound of earth. If Olgren is right, I must put the spirits to rest, or be cursed to forget the wind's call.
Do you worship a deity? If so, what is your deity’s relationship with Hvitr, the Lawful god of Storms and Justice?
I do not, but I am bound to the Alvein of Elves. When we die, it judges us. I shall be found lacking.
Of Hvitr, the Alvein is unaware. The Alvein is not a being. It is the unconscious spirit of all Elves.
Someone you know personally from the village of Bannock has gone missing. Who is it, and what is your relationship to them?
Bronson does not know it, but Olgren disappeared the night before last. We were... accomplices. In a manner. The druid can teach me of magic, and I them of the Way of Things. Olgren may have been possessed. The druid mentioned a commune with the spirits of Hvitr last we spoke.

Shady Mills
Mister Shady Mills
Name:
Miltoko san Din
Race:
Halfling
Occupation:
Crofter
Appearance:
Miltoko san Din is a short fellow, a halfling, which makes him stand out even though he's only a yard tall. Yet, despite his puny stature, goodly folk try to steer clear of Mister Mills. He has a look of roguishness about him, an unwholesomeness, and often reeks of smoke and whiskey. They say his eyes are unsettling. Too calculating. Like he knows too much. And the way he struts about, it's uncanny. Like he's untouchable. Like you'll be dead tomorrow if you give him the wrong look.
Personality:
Sadly, Shady Mills is not what everyone thinks he is. He's just really good at maintaining a lie and using it to his advantage. One day someone said he played cards like a con, so he raised his eyebrow and smirked like it was true. The story only grew stranger from there. He'd only been playing a joke, but by the next day people started treating him different. Nicer. Giving gifts. Apologizing for old grudges.
The power got to him, so he leaned into it.
Under the surface, Shady is a good guy. He likes to treat people well, drink with friends and have a bit of foolish fun. It's just... it's hard to feel powerful when you're small.
Bond:
Kaden owes me a favor. I got him out of a bind for one of his little misadventures gone awry.
Do you believe the rumors of supernatural forces at work in the Catacombs beneath Hvitr to be true?
No. People go missing all the time. If anything, it's probably goblins up there. Or the foresters aren't doing their jobs and some wolves got in.
Did you wager anything on this belief? If yes, with whom?
Not on this one. It's poor taste to make bets over what's killing people.
Do you worship a deity? If so, what is your deity’s relationship with Hvitr, the Lawful god of Storms and Justice?
Not exactly. I don't mind sending a prayer up every once in a while, but it's never really done me much good.
Perhaps that means I didn't mean it or something. That's what them faithful folk like saying.
Someone you know personally from the village of Bannock has gone missing. Who is it, and what is your relationship to them?
Gesty did. Carpenter's daughter. She's a real spitfire she is. Only one in town who never fell for the bluff. Gods bless her, that girl's little jabs and smart banter kept me sane sometimes, when folks started to really steer clear of me.
I treat her like my own.

Katerina
name
: Katerina
race
: human
occupation
: Katerina is a charming but not especially talented young
forester
. She aspires to be a famed hunter or at least a wealthy trapper - but for now she has to make a living off selling mushrooms she collects in the forest while tracking game. (She rarely finds her would be prey and when she does she most often misses her shot.)
appearance
: She has light skin, long auburn hair and sky-blue eyes. Her build is not exactly lithe, but she has nice curves and a pretty face. Her hands are not the fragile hands of a noble woman exempt from having to work hard. Her arms and hands are somewhat robust but feminine still. All in all, she's pretty especially compared to others in the village.
personality
: Well aware of her looks, she's somewhat arrogant. She completely ignores the fact that she's not very talented at hunting. Surprisingly she's quite resilient, not one to complain often, and she's willing to make an effort to reach her goals. But sometimes she feels she deserves more attention.
bond

Questions and Answers
:
Do you believe the rumors of supernatural forces at work in the Catacombs beneath Hvitr to be true?
No. I wander across the woods all the time and I've never seen anything supernatural. I'm either
very
unlucky or there are no such creatures or forces in our domain.
Did you wager anything on this belief? If yes, with whom?
Derek, the butcher's boy insists that witches live in the depths of the Hvitr’s Horn caverns. But then he also insists that I'll be his wife - nonsense!
Anyway, if there indeed is something "supernatural" in those catacombs then I'll allow him to kiss me. But if there's not (and we both know there isn't) then he'll be my hound for a whole day o' huntin'!
Do you worship a deity? If so, what is your deity’s relationship with Hvitr, the Lawful god of Storms and Justice?
Worship? No, not really. I do say a prayer or two when I'm about to shoot at my prey. (I'm a huntress, you know) Well, I also tend to curse when I miss. I know, I know, I'm sorry.
If I have to choose, Advrak - the mistress of night and stealth is kinda cool, don't you think? She's not that popular around here, you know Hvitr this and Hvitr that, *trying to deepen her voice*
the law and justice and storms of punishment
... meh, I find that boring.
Someone you know personally from the village of Brannock has gone missing. Who is it, and what is your relationship to them?
Yes, Gesty, the carpenter's daughter. I'm worried for her. I hope it's just a boy... but Gesty is not that kind of a girl. We grew up together, she used to be my best friend when we were children. We're not that close anymore. But I really hope that she's alright.

Bookworm’s Villager
Name
Gwen
Race
Human
Occupation
Monk
Appearance
Gwen is young, still in her teenage years, with a shaved head and wearing the simple, grey robes of a student monk of Hvitr with his glass symbol hanging from her belt. A pale scar runs across the side of her head just nicking her ear, a memento of the struggles she survived before becoming a monk.
Personality
Gwen is sincere in her goal to serve Hvitr and uphold justice. But she is still new to this path and has much to learn. She struggles to be patient, and to set aside her personal feelings enough to act in accordance with her faith.
Bond
I will convince
Troy
of the value of honor
Questions
Do you believe the rumors of supernatural forces at work in the Catacombs beneath Hvitr to be true?
Yes, there is much more to this world than can be seen by our eyes and Hvitr’s Horn is a site of both great tragedy and power.
Did you wager anything on this belief? If yes, with whom?
No, any funds or supplies we have go to those in need.
Do you worship a deity? If so, what is your deity’s relationship with Hvitr, the Lawful god of Storms and Justice?
I worship Hvitr himself and work to learn his teachings.
Someone you know personally from the village of Bannock has gone missing. Who is it, and what is your relationship to them?
My mentor, Elis, disappeared while searching for those already lost. He forbade me from accompanying him on his search once night had fallen as I’m still a student and I regret that I obeyed him.

Background Questions
Where did Elis learn to be a monk?
He studied in a larger city, in a monastery alongside the monks that worked there. He felt called to travel and uphold justice among smaller, more remote communities though and begun journeying shortly after making his full vows. It is not unusual for such traveling monks to take students as they find them, though to take their full vows these students must be journey to a full monastery to add other perspectives to their lessons and pass the final tests and trials.
Are they fighting monks?
Not really, they learn enough to defend themselves and others but it's not really the point of the order.
What are some basic tenets of their order?
Frugal Living. monks are expected to live frugally, own little, and not accept gifts that would exceed such a frugal lifestyle even if only temporarily, this prevents the perversion of justice through material wealth.
Dedication to Hvitir. make vows to no other person or cause and hold no other person or cause above justice, pray daily. This prevents the perversion of justice through loyalty to other persons or causes.
Seek Injustice. each day reflect on the ideals of justice and how you have not upheld them, seek out hidden injustice and those that cannot ask for aid. This prevents the perversion of justice through complacency.
Lead Others. serve as an example of Hvitr and justice to the people around you, encourage and teach them. This prevents the perversion of justice by having too few that uphold it.
Uphold Justice. At time the path to justice will be obvious, at others it will be hard to see. We learn from each other and from Hvitr's guidance. We listen to those who have asked for justice and we listen to those who have not or can not. We seek evidence. Justice seeks to heal victims. It seeks to hold wrong-doers to account. It is not the same as the law. The same action will not bring about justice in a different place or a different time. Justice may be needed even if there is no victim. Justice may be needed even if there is no wrongdoer.

”Troy Tjorven"
Name:
Troy Tjorven
Race:
Human
Occupation:
Tanner (
rolls
)
Appearance:
Troy is 5’10”, 170 lbs, with wavy dark blond hair, and grey eyes. He is 31 years old and strikingly handsome - or, at least
he
thinks so, if you can judge by the look of self confidence in his eyes. His waist is thin, his shoulders broad, and his muscles are toned from his days spent tanning hides. He wears a leather vest and apron with a pouch where he carries his tools when he is working. He has a scar running from above his right eyebrow down below his eye. Most prominently, though, he is missing his right hand which has been replaced with a hook. But if you watch him use it while he scrapes at hides, you’ll quickly see he has become adept with it - it is nearly as functional as an actual hand.
Personality:
Troy is an inveterate liar, boaster, and storyteller. Occasionally his stories are true, but mostly they aren’t. After work, he heads to the
Boar’s Head
pub where he holds court, and drinks and smokes with his friends late into the night. His best friend is Luke, the miller’s son, who is 26, and always looked up to Troy when they were younger. One of Troy’s favorite topics of conversation is how he lost his hand. When there is a newcomer in the pub, he makes a point to introduce himself. And eventually the question comes up:
how did you lose your hand?
"Ah, well tha’s an interesting story…"
he’ll say and launch into a multi-hour tale of adventure that eventually finishes with something like
"...and tha’s when the great beast rose up from the water, a hundred teeth like knives, eyes blacker than the blackest night, and ‘e bit down as I was reachin’ into the water..."
And by this point, the whole pub is crowded around listening to him. In fact, this was the story he was telling in the pub a few nights ago. The middle aged balding man that was listening to his tale interrupted him to ask
Where did you say this was?
"Ah, that was Lak Dineer, a little way’s east of ‘ere."
And you say it was a shark?
"Aye, the lake shark of Lak Dineer"
. And they would go on arguing and discussing late into the night.
The truth of the matter about his hand was not so exciting. He and the miller’s boy had had too much to drink one night and were roughhousing in the mill when Troy fell into the machinery and his arm was crushed. He wasn’t the brightest lad and should have known better than to be playing around drunk inside a mill, or so his father told him, Hvitr rest his soul.
It had been a hard few years since his father passed away. Troy, always happy to talk about anything, didn’t like to talk about that. He had been drinking more of late, and having trouble sleeping, and had been sick on and off the last few years. He felt as though his health was failing and he was growing old before his time, but he kept this to himself. And kept up with the drinking.

Do you believe the rumors of supernatural forces at work in the Catacombs beneath Hvitr to be true?
Aye, o’ course I do! What else could explain why e’eryone is disappearin’? It’s all people have wanted to talk about in the
Boar’s Head
the last few months.
Did you wager anything on this belief? If yes, with whom?
Aye, with Lizzie Codswattle, the laundress' daughter. The silly thing thinks i’s more o’ my stories, but
I
di’n’t make it up! She’ll owe me a year’s worth o’ cleanin’ if I’m right, and I’ll owe her five o’ me best hides if I’m wrong.
Do you worship a deity? If so, what is your deity’s relationship with Hvitr, the Lawful god of Storms and Justice?
Worship? Not so much. Don’ get me wrong. I believe in Hvitr an’ all… I’m jus’ not a very religious person.
Someone you know personally from the village of Bannock has gone missing. Who is it, and what is your relationship to them?
Who hasn’t gone missing? It's scary these days... but the one that really got to me was Nelly. Luke’s sister. She was a… she’s a good girl. We’ll find her again, I know we will.
Background questions
Troy speaks with a bit of an accent, though others in the village do not. Was he born/raised somewhere else? Were his parents? If so, where?
Troy was born in the coastal city of Inmont, a few ten days walk to the east - maybe 300 miles or so. His mother died during a plague that swept through the city when he was a small child. After that his father, Lonnell, had had enough of the city and decided to take his son and move elsewhere. A friend told him about the quiet village of Bannock to the west. Growing up in Bannock, Troy learned and imitated his father’s accent. He could also speak without an accent if he chose, but he cultivated it, both because he loved his father, but also because he liked the distinction. When he asked about it as a child, his father had told him,
"Aye lad, the folks in Inmont speak as I do. I’s how e’eryone speaks there."
His prosthetic, is that something common? Did he make it himself, or did someone else make it for him?
Prosthetics are uncommon, especially in Bannock. Nobody near the village has the skill to make them. After Troy lost his hand, his father suggested the idea of getting the hook and said that he knew somebody back in Inmont who specialized in it. The two of them took a journey to the city. It was the first (and last) time that Troy had been back there. He was amazed by the size of the city and the number of people. They met a man named Cyrill who fit and customized the prosthetic for Troy. The prosthetic is Troy’s most prized possession and would be costly to replace if it was ever damaged or lost.

Isabelle the Jealous Tender
Name:
Isabelle Hasvir
Race:
Human
Occupation:
Alewife
Appearance:
Isabelle is a weakly-built woman in her early forties, who despite her age holds up quite well with her health and beauty, but knows they won’t last much longer. She has long, wavy, blonde hair and blue eyes. People always see her in her tavern clothes, consisting of ruffled white shirt, loose, leather corset and tight pants stuffed inside her mid-calf boots.
Personality:
The woman is quite quick with trusting others... and quite quick with taking that trust away, when she turns out to be fooled. She hates when things are quiet and often chats people up to fix the atmosphere. Isabelle gets jealous pretty easily, especially of elves and their nearly-eternal youth. The girl despises arguments and always tries to stop them, if they are on the horizon... unless she was the one, who caused them.

Do you believe the rumors of supernatural forces at work in the Catacombs beneath Hvitr to be true?
I work at the tavern so I hear many rumors every day. Of course, they often turn out to be just someone’s imagination or a straight up bunch of lies… But I still believe in each of them, until proven otherwise, what if some of it is real?
Did you wager anything on this belief? If yes, with whom?
Wagers… I saw them bring tears of joy and tears of sadness to our patrons. I would rather never feel the second one myself. If anything, people sometimes come to me to act as the neutral side overlooking the bet.
Do you worship a deity? If so, what is your deity’s relationship with Hvitr, the Lawful god of Storms and Justice?
Nah honey, just look at how our world looks. People disappearing, lake sharks chomping on people’s hands, those smug elves passing though our village... If the gods are real, they deserve no praise.
Someone you know personally from the village of Bannock has gone missing. Who is it, and what is your relationship to them?
Mister Helmut, my boss. I haven’t seen him a few days, I hope he just away on a business trip, looking for even cheaper ale.

Maude Codswattle
Name:
Maude Codswattle
Race:
Human
Occupation:
Laundress (
rolls
)
Appearance:
Maude is a completely unremarkable, but eternally cheerful, woman. She wanders about the village collecting and disbursing laundry, always with a smile on her face. She is never seen without her tidy white bonnet, and she takes great pride in her lace trimmed silk shawl, fastened with a blue ribbon. She changes her undergarments - normally a cotton dress and blouse - weekly. She rotates through the same four outfits, one outfit per week, all year. She makes sure to keep her clothes clean so that everyone knows she is a good and capable laundress. Maude is extremely clumsy and often drops her laundry as she carries it through the village. The villagers know if they find a piece of stray clothing to bring it to Maude.
Personality:
Maude is a beautiful, sensitive creature. She can’t stand conflict, anxiety, or distress. Her perfect world would be a never ending series of uneventful days, washing laundry, saying hello to her neighbors, and going about her daily routines. She prays to Hvitr, Mekita, and the Mother once a day, morning, noon, and night. She loves her routines and becomes upset if they are broken.
Over the years, she has developed a somewhat unnatural obsession with Katerina, one of the local village girls. It came to her in a dream - a message from the Mother that Katerina was destined for greatness. And although Katerina may not realize it, Maude has been looking out for her these many years. She
watches from a distance
checks in on
Katerina periodically to make sure that she is doing ok. At home, her daughter Lizzie has grown so tired of hearing about Katerina that she has taken to spending most of her time at the tavern and only comes home occasionally to eat and sleep. A few years ago, Maude found a handkerchief that Katerina dropped, put it in her pocket, took it home, and set up a small shrine in the corner of her bedroom, with the handkerchief under a candle where she bows each morning in prayer to Hvitr. Lizzie no longer goes in her mother's room and refuses to speak with her mother about Katerina.
Bond:
Katerina is destined for greatness, because the gods have told me so.
Do you believe the rumors of supernatural forces at work in the Catacombs beneath Hvitr to be true?
Of course I do! The Mother has told me to beware of the Catacombs and I won’t set foot there!
Did you wager anything on this belief? If yes, with whom?
No! Wager about the Catacombs? What is the world coming to?
Do you worship a deity? If so, what is your deity’s relationship with Hvitr, the Lawful god of Storms and Justice?
Do I worship a deity? Do you mean do I worship Hvitr, Mekita, and the Mother? Of course I do! What kind of a question is that?
Someone you know personally from the village of Bannock has gone missing. Who is it, and what is your relationship to them?
Maude puts her face into her hands and moans gently. She looks up as though she is going to say something, but then buries her face again in her hands and begins to sob.
