A Masks Debut Adventure - Lighting Lad
Before we get started with the actual story, we need to get through a bit of setup work. If you haven't already, check out the information thread in this folder for some basic details of what to expect and a couple of examples for making a character sheet. You will need a playbook/character sheet of some kind for both of us to reference in the game. If you want to link to an offsite one, that is fine so long as I can read it. You can also repost your application or just link to it. I want to be able to focus the story of this adventure on your character, after all. And the easier I can access their information, the easier I can tailor this story to you! Speaking of which, this story begins on a class field trip to a science museum and assumes that your character is a part of the class. If that does not sound like it works for your character, please let me know why and suggest an alternative reason for them to be arriving. If you have any questions or thoughts, please feel free to share them here! This is a thread that only the 2 of us can see right now, but after we get through the story I am happy to make the thread public so you can share it with others if you wish. Also, if at any point you are concerned about the direction of the story making you feel uncomfortable, PLEASE LET ME KNOW RIGHT AWAY! I want you to have fun and enjoy this game as we work together to make a great story. If we get anywhere near one of your lines or curtains, or even if there is something boring you don't want to pursue, do not feel like you have to. I promise that I will do the same! Well now that we are on the same page, let's get to the fun part! Go ahead and post your character info/links as requested above and let me know if you are good with the initial premise.

So far, so good. I like your image choice for Wyvern. Changed your first character sheet post just a bit so that the picture fits the quick sheet format, but you can hoover over it and see the full thing!
We also need to establish some back-up roles for this first adventure, and since this is a solo game they will have to be NPCs. So with that, let’s establish a couple bonds with questions specific to this solo game: The NPCs you describe here will either have influence over you or be influenced by you (or both), depending on their roles and how you describe them. If any of the NPCs from your app fit here, feel free to use them! Once you have all of that, I will go ahead and start the story! Quick note on my posting schedule, I am almost NEVER available on the weekends because of real life. Otherwise I try to check in on stories at least once a day. You are NOT required to post daily or even weekly for this game, though I will check in with you if 2 weeks goes by without any word. Basically we will play at whatever pace works best for you.

Thanks! I think it's a pretty cool picture too. Sounds good about the post rate.
I'm assuming I've been acting as a hero for a little while. If that's the case, see below. I'm open to any comments or suggestions for the following characters... 1. There's a student named Paul who has attached himself to Mark. Mark was nice to him at the beginning of the year (Paul is a new student) and Paul has kind of glommed onto Mark every chance he gets because they're "friends" and Paul doesn't really know anyone else. Does Mark trust Paul? No, he doesn't know him so he hasn't earned any trust. 2. Shannon. He went on a date with her and to her mind, he disappeared and ditched her when during a movie, the fire alarm went off and he Mark was just gone. Mark knows that there was an extradimensional incursion taking place and he had to suit up as Wyvern to stop them. And he got so injured and worn out, he had to go straight home. Although, it's hard to tell Shannon this and so he avoids her in order to avoid an awkward moment. Little does he realize, he's making everything more awkward by doing this. 3. Mrs. Thompkins is the teacher that's earned his respect the most. She's a fun, funny but highly educated and good teacher in his science classes. He's been able to pick her brain a little about the science of superheroing. She knows something strange is up with him due to the questions that he asks, but she doesn't know he's a hero or has powers. |

Awesome! Yes, I think it makes sense that he's been trying the hero thing out for a while and maintaining his secret identity.
Looks like you have influence over Paul, Mrs. Thompkins has influence of you, and both you and Shannon have influence over each other. Make sense? If that works for you, let me know and we will get started with the actual story!

Another Day Our story begins with an ordinary fieldtrip to the Halcyon City Scientific Advancement Research Facility. This city is the pride of the modern world, in terms of heroic activity and advanced research. Demonstrations for the public are common quarterly occurrences, but this particular demonstration is specifically for teenage students to help encourage their academic pursuit. Thus, “cool science” is expected to be witnessed this day. We see various students are entering through the glass doors of the main visitors’ entrance. The teachers begin directing them towards the eastern staircase where a balcony has been set up with seating. Some of the students are excited. Some are nervous. Many are bored. And all of them are either whispering to one another or playing on their cell phones. One such student is Mark Cole: a teenage boy with dark skin and bright caring eyes. He dresses in casual T-shirts and plain colors which often hide his frame, and most observers would either write him off as mundane or a typical high school teenager that doesn't want any attention. Paul, a fairly new student in a Geek n Sundries Hoodie, is walking closely beside Mark and engaging the other boy in conversation as if they have always been nothing more than close friends. "Just look at that machine! I’ve never seen so many flashing lights on something, and it isn’t even labeled. What do you think it does, Mark? Maybe it’s just something that looks cool for when you first walk in but doesn’t really do anything?" Mark looks up and sees the machine that Paul is talking about. It looks like a big metal box with flashing lights and a couple mechanical arms. There seems to be a conveyer belt on one side, but it doesn’t come out the other. Beyond that, Mark can see a large telescope that visitors are allowed to look through. The roof is closed, though it is glass, but since it is day time Mark is not sure any stars would be visible. "Or wait, should we just go up and get a seat before everyone else does? I bet if we head up now we could score a seat next to some of the cheerleaders. Maybe I could introduce you or something, if you like?" This is probably Paul trying to be nice to Mark, in his own way. Sitting near the cheerleaders is not necessarily Mark's idea of a good time, especially given that Shannon is likely to be found up there as well. She had clearly not been happy about being ditched at the movies, and he is doing his best to avoid any sort of conversation with her ever since that disaster! The teachers continue trying to herd the children towards the stairs, but there are a few not paying attention. And no one has actually said aloud that the kids are not supposed to wander around first. But the crowd is moving, so staying put is not really an option. Mark will have to decide if possible socialization upstairs is going to be better or worse than wandering around to kill some time and look around, taking whatever seats are left later.

"Yeah, you're probably right!" Paul assured his friend as he followed Mark over to the machine. He didn't even notice Mark's sigh of relief. Even though the balcony seats were on a completely different level, the young hero was more than happy to put even more distance between himself and Shannon.
Unfortunately a closer inspection did not reveal anything that was any more useful about the showy display machine in the front room. It does seem to be a hodgepodge of multiple machines. The outer metal shell is wired on the inside to simply alternate blinking lights. The metal arms seem designed to transfer items to or from the conveyor belt which leads to a large empty metal circle within the casing. "Unless the circular metal inside is some sort of Star Gate leading to another dimension, the whole thing doesn't seem to make any sense," Paul observed with a shrug. Glancing around, Mark saw one student look through the telescope and then immediately pull away, blinking. Considering where the thing was angled and the time of day, he suspected that the poor kid had just got an up-close look at the sun. Even with all the filters in place, that student would probably be blinking a lot for the rest of the day. The chaperones continued quietly herding students towards the stairs, but Mark noticed more than a couple of kids scattered about and looking for ways to slip out unnoticed like he was. There was a dark hallway nearby that one could easily disappear into. And there were a pair of scientists under the balcony section talking to a wall, probably rehearsing the upcoming presentation.

"I've never had one myself," Paul admits. "Most of my experience looking at the stars comes through video games and TikTok. They're pretty cool, but telescopes seem kind of expensive. I know the public library in town has a small one you can check out for a week, but it has to be way smaller than this one! That's gotta be a really close look at the sun. Ouch! Who was looking through it? I missed it." Mark tries to pay attention while also looking and listening towards the scientists. There is potentially very interesting stuff going on around him. But other students are being noisy or just hanging around in the way, and the scientists are just really into whatever it is they are talking about. The presentation is probably going to be pretty lame, honestly. He's actually considering skipping out on the whole thing. "Hey, you seem bored too. Wanna sneak out with me and look around?" Mark turns to find a cheerleader leaning close to him, whispering softly so as not to get caught or overheard. "C’mon. Let’s head into the dark hallway while no one is looking and get a room. I bet we can find something a lot more fun to do while everyone else is watching the show. If you know what I mean?" Her eyebrows bounce as she says this, in a coy and mischievous sort of way. Paul is still looking over towards the telescope and hasn't noticed the cheerleader yet.

Hannah
"Hannah! Hey. That sounds great. But I promised my man Paul here that we’d hang out and watch this thing. Can you forgive me? Can I get a rain check?" "Nope," Hannah replied with a smile that was completely unabashed by Mark's excuses. The next thing Mark knows, he's suddenly in a dark hallway with Hannah holding his arm and pulling him along.
