Inside the Crow's Casks

Welcome!A sign over the door to this two-story stone building depicts a group of drunk crows perched on a leaky cask. Crow’s Casks is more than just a tavern—it’s a brewery and a shrine to Cayden Cailean, the god of heroes, bravery, and ale.

Welcome to the OOC Thread! All of your out of character discussions and banter can live here. Pull up a pew and grab yourself a drink.

Hello Everyone

Excited to get a game of 2e in.

For character creation I have an idea for a human cleric of Sarenrae with the warrior background. I would however be happy with any role so if you had the same idea let me know and I don't mind switching.

A battle cleric could be cool.

Hi there guys. My idea was to play the village (Dwarven?) mortician. Well-read but blinded by money, in a get-rich-fast-scheme kind of way that usually gets him in trouble. Not the most empathetic or smart, but deep down he's a nice guy.

Mechanically, same as Sorcerious, I'm happy to play whatever. The class is a superficial detail, and I can see a justification for all 4.
If I have to choose, rogue works just fine.

@slays That sounds like it could be really good fun. Just make sure he's not *only* in it for the money, and we should be good.

@sorcerious That's a really good question. I'm happy with it just being typed out and in a spoiler on your posts (or linked to a post somehwre I can reference). Or Pathbuilder will let you link to a read only copy of the character. That's probably a decent bet.

I'm fine with taht as long as they are non-evil, and you have reasons for them to be a little bit altruistic. Not every mission will have an obvious monetary reward.

Player Character Ancestry Background Class
SlaysTheDragon Dwarf ?? ??
Sorcerious Human Warrior Cleric
Howling Winds of Elf Criminal Rogue

I was the human warrior cleric.

Working on him now, it looks like pathbuilder for android posts a link that only works for people viewing in android. I will put the stat block as a spoiler on my posts.

Thoughts?

Hector Oakenheart
right-aligned image

Hector was born and raised in the town of Otari. He comes from a long family of Lumberjacks. They had lived in the town and logged the nearby forest for as long as any living member could recall. Hector grew up hearing stories of the towering trees that grew nearby, of the lumberjacks skill with the saw, and of the things in the forest that would defend the trees if given a chance. It was not a life for him. The claws and fangs of the forests residents had always interested him more then the logging part. As he grew up, rather then hewing wood he found his calling keeping the camps safe from the more violent denizens of the forest but more then anything he admired the Otari town guard. When he became a man he signed up to do his part in protecting the small resource town and he proudly wore his uniform.

He excelled in his new position and rose in the ranks quickly. All that would come to a crushing and sudden end when he lead a detachment of guards to clear out a Kobold den in the Fogfen north of town. The warren was abandoned but its traps remained. A misstep onto a pressure sensitive plate sent a crossbow bolt crunching through Hectors breast plate and embedded the bolt deep inside his chest. Only the timely intervention of the teams cleric of Sarenrae and the god’s divine healing saved his life. He still bears the scar to this day.

While unconscious Hector had a dream in which Sarenrae appeared to him and spared his life. In exchange he pledged to protect her allies, heal the sick, and help the repentant seek redemption. Upon his return to town he resigned his commission and reported to the Dawnflower library to take up the cloth.

Since then he has become skilled at medicine, learned much about religion, and done his utmost to fulfill his promise. He often finds himself at odds with his gods other followers though as he believes the best way to keep everyone safe is to keep them from being injured in the first place. To this end he advocates for taking the fight to those who would seek to harm the town instead of adopting the more wait and see attitude of others.

Alright, I'm more or less done reading the rules, and I'll be making the character probably tomorrow (it's been a busy week so far). In the end, it'll be a dwarven fighter, that will mix in some wizard archetype, to have a taste of magic at the later levels.

Battle cleric is looking good, if you ask me!

Zuntîr Silverdye
right-aligned image

Zuntîr Silverdye was born 54 years ago in the Otari House of Pharasma. One of the small monastic congregations that his clan hold around Absalom. His family are among the few in the clan that still conserve the old legacy of gravekeeping, coming back from beyond their settlement in the island, in the times of the Rending. As the rest of the clan, they have changed their way of doing things. Most notably, they accepted the cult of Pharasma, a more familiar deity to the local population than exotic Torag. The creator obviously holds a place in every dwarf's heart, but their dedication to the godess has earned some distinguished clan membersthe Gray Lady's blessing, which is a source of great pride in these communities.

Barely an adult, the dwarf knows a great deal of the town's population. His slow development, compared to the shorter-lived humans, meant that he played as a kid with a couple of human generations, but struggled to keep many real friends for long, as they quickly outgrew him. His natural introspection, paired with a general dislike of the sun, made him enjoy the company of other intellectuals, with whom he shares his passion for reading and collecting old books and scrolls.

About his "mountain fever", Zuntîr can barely tolerate being out in the sun, and only in short bursts, before the ominous horror of the open sky starts seeping in, and sours his temper. The night is more gentle to him: The sky looks less threatening, and with less people walking around, he feels more at ease. Thus, he spends most of the night awake, either studying and working at home, buying into his unending book collection, half of which will most likely remain unread, or socializing and gambling at the inn or the library. In the dark there is a soothing calm, where a person can spend hours unbothered by noises or unwanted light, if he so wishes. It's just a dwarf, his craft, and Torag smiling on him. Doing that from time to time is therapeutic for any self-respecting dwarf, and it makes Zuntîr extremely happy.

All of these factors pushed him more and more into the family business, where he could have his time off the prolonged exposure to society and the dreaded sun. Lacking any priestly qualities outside caligraphy and a basic religious education, he dedicated himself to the study of what was around, which was... Usually corpses. The transition was easy enough, his quill-trained hands soon found a second home in the scalpel's handle, and in no time, he was slashing and stuffing the town's loved ones with wood shavings and alchemical products, finishing them up with a smothering of expensive make-up, much needed to make them look alive for a few hours. A worthy craft, no doubt, and the high markup that an unscrupulous craftsman can set for a grieving person does help feed both his obsessions.
The other side of Zuntîr's coin is definitively his ambition. It almost seems as if the young dwarf had been a powerful dragon in another life, because there is something visceral about money that blinds his senses, and has led him to get in a series of disastrous endeavours, including developing "just a little bit" of a gambling problem, and a real hoarding problem. His finances bounce between being completely broke, and spending what he has in scrolls, drinks and bets. Not a bad life, in his mind, just a bit unstable.
