As the signal comes in scrambled, Salm quick started to pull up the comms systems on his mech. Patching it into the massive radio box behind his seat, he queued a nearby radio tower and overrode its security countermeasures. Stealing the bandwidth, he pumped the gain and patched it back into their comm line to beef up the signal strength. Sure he probably threw 40 people off their house internet link and disrupted a dozen different streaming programs, but the night was turning bad. Catching what he did, it sounded like more gates were opening and being taken over which meant bad things for people like him. A lost episode was hardly the worse that might happen tonight. Clicking his own line on to the squad, "Boosted the signal Sarge. We should be able to hear them loud and clear as long as we stay in this sector. "

Adjusting buttons, switches, and levers, all Salm could do was frown after realizing it wasn't the buildings but something powerful enough to block their military grade gear. Which probably meant other military grade equipment. Continuing to rotate the frequency dial as thye marched along, he opened his comms to the others, "No luck. It is blanketing the area. However we have military grade gear or at least we should. That means they are either really good with civilian grade or they have their own military gear. "

It was a little disheartening that her own efforts dealing with the crowds had been in vain while direct threats had proven highly effective. As they moved through the industrial zone she was unnerved to see the youths stalking them as they progressed even though they would be little threat to them inside their military vehicles. >>I take it such interference isn't common.<< She broke her silence. The source of the interference had to be the same people behind the opening of the gate's and the disappearance of the scout squad. It was likely all connected.>>Maybe the interference is why we lost contact with the scouts.<< Having little useful to offer regarding their communication issues she kept an eye on the sensors keeping watch for potential trouble.

Voxing back a negative, Salm informed them of the jamming as he marched along. The gangs travelling with them hardly gave him any cause for concern. If they were stupid enough to attack them they would end up with a lot dead. If weapons strong enough to take them down had filtered down in to the street gangs, they had already lost this battle anyway.
Watching the crowd gather and spotting the mech, Salm settled down in the middle of the street. From on top of his thighs, two massive hatches popped open and out extended a massive claw from each. Settling on the ground, the torso of his mech leaned over and the gun barrel extended from his back. Rotating like an old tank turret, he started to scan the approaches for trouble well he opened a comm line again to the suits and his new squad, "Coporal Myers, advanced to the mech. Check for Zorka and any supplies. Also, is there any other damage beside the chest shot? If that is the only damage, that is a massive rifle to take down a mech in a single shot. ". |

Entering the destitute sectors of the city always made her feel uneasy. Knowing a large part of the city struggled with poverty and seeing recordings was one thing, it was something else entirely to see them for yourself. It was hard to imagine these places were even in the same city as the clean and well ordered streets of her home neighborhood. One of the great cities of the universe and people still had to live like this.
>>Oh no!<< She burst out horrified by the sight of the hole punched straight through the enormous machine. Right through the cockpit. She felt a sickening feeling in her stomach. Had Zorka been aboard she didn't imagine there would be much left of her. >>I'll move in to assist you Corporal.<< She began pushing through towards the wreckage. >>If you discover any wounded pull them out and I'll bring them aboard for emergency treatment.<< Last edited by Mendalot; Jun 11th, 2022 at 03:10 PM. |

The corporal's description of the scene quickly dashed her hopes that Zorka might have made it out somehow. The shot through the cockpit had been very precise and it didn't look like Zorka had much time to react otherwise there would have been much more damage in the surroundings. Unfortunately little collateral damage did not mean none. She winced at the sight of the man Myers deposited below her mech. That the man was still alive after Zorka's mech fell into the shack was a minor miracle in itself.
Surrounded by crowds, her squad yelling threats and the man on the ground bleeding to death she found herself momentarily overwhelmed by the chaotic situation. She wished doctor Merdon was here to make the decisions but wishing did not help anything. They did not even have communications up and she was the squad medic. It was on her now. Lowering her mach into standby position she set it up to act as a protective hulk of metal and unclasped the straps of her seat. >>Okay… okay. Cover me.<< She wasn't entirely sure what the protocol in this situation was but bringing civilians aboard was definitely not it. So instead she figured she'd go render medical assistance down there. Quickly dismounting she let herself slip down onto the ground then went to kneel by the wounded man. It was time to put her training to the test. This was what she was here for. Without immediate medical attention the chances were good he'd soon succumb to his wound but if she could stabilize him long enough that somebody could bring him to the nearest hospital his chances would be much better. |
