Start with words, but carry an Ushaan-tor just in case.
Follow the prime directive
Risk is our business.
Marriage is important.
Vren Azonan was born on a star base, to Andorian parents. Given they were both Starfleet captains, it was perhaps inevitable he too, would join Starfleet. The young Andorian didn't see his father much physically, as he was the captain of a nebula class starship, but they were still close. His dad often gave him good advice, and taught him much, including how to wield the Ushaan-tor, the Andorian melee weapon.
His mother, the captain of a star base, by contrast, was not close to Vren, despite the child living with her. She worked him hard on his education. Picked out a career path for him. Later Vren would describe her as marginally more frosty than Andor.
When it came time to go to Starfleet academy, once Vren arrived in San Francisco, he found out his mother had already arranged his classes and electives. For the first month he was deeply unhappy. Then a female Vulcan fellow student, named T'rem, noticed his distress. She asked him what was wrong. The bold question caught him off guard, and Vren told her the truth. Whilst he wanted to be at Starfleet academy, he wanted to be on a different track. T'rem told him he would only be happy he lived the life he wanted to lead. It was only logical. Realising she was right, Vren spoke to a friendly professor, and rearranged his schedule so that he was doing the things he wanted to do.
Unfortunately that meant a lot of catch up. However T'rem gave up a lot of her free time to help him. It wasn't a one way street, and he helped her out with her engineering casework.
Vren turned out to be a natural commander, and often led group assignments. He remained undefeated in mock battles against rival teams.
Upon graduation, Vren had gained more than an education, he had gained a fiancee. The time he had spent with her studying, had grown their relationship into something more. How could he not fall in love with the beautiful, kind Vulcan woman?
Announcing the engagement went differently. Whilst it was hard to tell, her Vulcan parents seemed to approve. Vren's dad broke out the booze and toasted the happy couple. His mother on the other hand disapproved hard. She ordered Vren to break the engagement. He did not. Vren was not the same person. Starfleet and T'rem had given him the confidence to stand up to her. He told her bluntly T'rem was the best thing that ever happened to him, and he was marrying her. This left his mother aghast and speechless for the first time. Vren and T'rem were married shortly after. His mother did not attend.
Married life wasn't always easy. Their assignments would often take them far apart, but they would make the most of the time they had together. Vren gained the reputation of solid officer. Eventually his work caught the eye of Admiral Nechayev, and he was appointed as one of her aides, to help her negotiate several treaties with Cardassia, culminating in the Federation/Cardassia treaty of 2370.
However the treaty was not popular with the colonists in the demilitarized zone, who felt abandoned by Federation to the mercy of Cardassia. Whilst Vren was sympathetic, he understood the prospect of war was a far worse reality.
The colonists formed a resistance called the "Maquis", aided and abetted covertly by some in command. Vren was tapped into Starfleet intelligence to track down the rot within.
At first the work was frustrating. Every move they made, the other side was ahead by several. Suspecting a mole, Vren acted on his own initiative. Marked supplies he suspected the Maquis were after so he could track them. Sure enough the Maquis took the bait. When Vren arrived with a security team to arrest them, he was unprepared for the leader. It was T'rem, who shot him with a phaser. Whilst the rest of her cell was caught, she was in the wind.
The subsequent inquiry cleared Vren of any wrongdoing, whilst he had been the first to make a significant capture of the Maquis, the fact his own wife had been a member, and he hadn't suspect, kinda killed his intelligence career.
His mother contacted him soon afterwards. In an unpleasant call, she gloated over the fact she knew T'rem was all wrong for him, and that he should have listened to him. In the second time of standing up to her, Vren finally, epically lost his temper with her, cutting all contact with her.
Vren is assigned to the USS Tomoe Gozen, partly as a reward, partly to get him out of the public gaze of his wife being Maquis scandal.
2356
Graduates the academy. Marries T'rem in seperate ceremonies on Andor and Vulcan. Revan attends Vulcan ceremony.
2357
Assigned to the USS Scotland, under captain, later admiral Nechayev. By the end of the year, he's impressed her with his leadership qualities, and Vren is promoted to lieutenant.
Medical leave for undisclosed reason.
2360
Nechayev is promoted to admiral. Vren is reassigned to Captain Suvin as his transporter chief aboard the USS Cairo.
2362
Vren's father calls in several favours to have both Vren and T'rem temporarily seconded to his command, the Nebula class Typhoon. Vren is delighted to be near the two people he cared about the most.
2363
The return to the Cairo is an unhappy one. Captain Suvin succumbs to an alien disease that triggers an extremely violent ponfare. He kills his XO, and Vren is forced to violently subdue Suvin. Suvin decides to retire from Starfleet.
2364
Medical leave for undisclosed reason.
Captain Jellico takes command. Promotes Vren to full lieutenant and chief of security. Comically about 5 minutes later, Admiral Nechayev has Vren reassigned to her.
2365-7
Vren compiles a series of reports for the Admiral, on Cardassian attacks on the federation. He interviews many, many, many people, including his future captain Bailey for this. His reports provide Nechayev with key insight. He's promoted to Lieutenant commander, and becomes part of Nechayev's inner circle of staff.
Vren and T'rem celebrate 10 years of marriage.
2368-71
Vren is a part of treaty negotiations, one of Nechayev's advisors. He contributes in a small way to the wording of the Federation offer to the Cardassian union.
2371
Medical leave for undisclosed reason.
Vren is promoted to commander. Whilst hoping to have a starship command, he is instead seconded to Starfleet intelligence.

Here is my character sheet. I used the online builder. It didn't have an option for tactical officer. It only had security (as joined sec/tac) and the other Andorian already took that. I picked Intel Officer since it was the closest thing to tactical that the builder had, and I didn't want to have the same thing on the sheets since our roles are different. I'm actually the ships Tactical Officer so just ignore that.

Shran walks into his quarters. It is morning aboard a new Akira Class Star ship, The USS Tomoe Gozen, designation NCC 62643. It completed trials two weeks ago, a young ensign stands nervously at the door as the large broad thraan Andorian Vulcan hybrid studies his new quarters in detail.
The ensign waits eagerly. She had gone over every detail three times over and knows her exacting detail will not go unnoticed by the LT's sharp eyes, ears, or antenna. She had reviewed his personnel file. He had grown up in space, tending to livestock transports and joining the Imperial Guard at a young age. Upon graduating the Andorian military academy, he returned to the outer systems protecting transports vital to Andorian interests for the Imperial Guard.
After several diplomatic incidents early in his career he had been transferred to Starfleet as his superiors thought his talents would better protect Andoria in the first contact and diplomatic capacity as opposed to that of a warrior. He insisted on completing the academy as his peers if he was to serve on a Starfleet ship in such a capacity and had recently done so, although not without causing quite a stir.
Apparently an Andorian in the ethics department was up to some less than ethical practices. Well, actually treason is the word the Andorians had used. It had caused quite a diplomatic incident and Starfleet had upset some staff at the academy by caving in to the Andorian demands for jurisdiction and strict justice. He had left the academy having caused quite an incident, and no one involved in the matter was talking about what really happened. It was quite the mystery she had uncovered, but she was nothing but thorough. She shifts as he examines every surface with all of his senses. The young ensign sighs nervously not exactly knowing what to expect out of him.
She had met Andorians before, and even made a few Vulcan friends even before joining Starfleet... However, Vulcans and Andorians mating? Having a child together... It was hard for her to even imagine them even staying in the same room together long, despite being founding members of the federation together. As complicated as Andorian mating was and as Secretive as Vulcans where, and with their history she wondered at how that could ever occur? and if it was something she could even find a way to ask about? Her personal experience was that Vulcans and Andorians where like night and day... so how would this strange new LT who was on track to be in charge of her ship act?
She is snapped out of her thoughts by the realization that the Andorian is no longer studying the room but studying her. His sharp white and dark brown eyes and short white hair entrancing her momentarily as they stare into her soul. He smiles warmly. "Your preparations have exceeded our expectations. You have our gratitude."
She had heard th'Shonthoth had accepted his assignment weeks ago but had been delayed by the incident at the academy. A shuttle had Just brought him here. Despite his transfer not having been approved yet by the captain, he stood in the here and the now inspecting her handiwork... no, inspecting her. He was still inspecting her. She thought to herself, what is he looking for? What does he want? Then she realized that lost in thought she had forgotten to brief him. "Oh yes, thank you sir. Your instructions were quit clear and specific." She smiled with pride, and hoped he would look past her error. She studied the senior officer for any clues for a moment before continuing. "The ship's course is currently headed to a point just beyond the Tzenkethi Coalition" She pauses, waiting for a response that doesn't come then continues. "Then we will slow speed and begin our mission. We are Exploring The Sector in this mostly uncharted area of space close to, and even entering the Gamma Quadrant. " He nods at the ensign with a smile and motions to the door. "Thank you for confirming our current mission status. Please inform the senior crew of our arrival and inform them we are ready to meet at their earliest convenience."
The andorian dropped his clothes once he was alone and entered into the warm bubbling water of the tub. He sank down and felt the weight of several worlds lift of his shoulders as he lets the warm water cover his body. He closed his eyes and focused his energy and emotion. He thought to himself how difficult the times ahead would be and how important it would be to hold onto everything coursing through him now in the days ahead if starfleet was going to even keep him around. He thought about possible futures and how he might respond if starfleet thought he was more trouble than he was worth and decided to send him back to the Andorians. He thought of how his clan would respond and the rippling effect it would have on his people as a whole. Why had so many put so much responsibility on his back. He has a moment of weakness and lets his mind wander to the trivial, and he thinks back to the young perky ensign, so focused on her own work and the ship, oblivious to the greater worries of all the worlds outside the windows of the ship. oh, How he envied that. He let his mind swim in these feelings for a while before again focusing on his own path and that of the ship he now found himself on.
"We are thraal." He heard himself say to himself. "We may feel incomplete, but our ship is our kelthreh now." He sank into the tub and reached out with all his 8 of his senses and felt the larger organism of which now he was a part of around him. I'm after a few moments of these he came back up and breached the surface again, taking a deep breath. "It is now our sacred duty to protect, and impart wisdom to all the souls the universe has placed in our care for the good of the whole..." He let out a deep sigh and sank into the water again.

They insisted on completing the academy as their peers if they were to serve on a Starfleet ship in such a capacity and had recently done so, although not without causing quite a stir.
Apparently an Admiral in the ethics department was up to some less than ethical practices. It had upset some staff at the academy how brazenly the young cadet had placed a high-ranking admiral under arrest while still a student at the academy. However, he had done things by the book, and it was an arrestable offense, even though minor.
‘Val’ had subdued several security guards who thought the cadet had lost their mind. She shifts as Shranval examine every surface with all of their senses. The young ensign sighs nervously not exactly knowing what to expect out of them.
She had met Andorians before, and even made a few Vulcan friends even before joining Starfleet... However, Vulcans and Andorians mating? Having a child together... She is snapped out of her thoughts by the realization that the Andorian is no longer studying the room but studying her. Their sharp white and dark brown eyes and short white hair entrancing her momentarily as they stare into her soul. He smiles warmly. "Your preparations have exceeded our expectations. If there was one warm comforting thought in their mind, it was that they had earned themself family quarters on their last assignment in the beta quadrant and their family’s request for assignment on the same vessel had all finally been approved.
"We are thraal." They heard themself say to themself. They sank into the tub and reached out with all eight of their senses and felt the larger organism of which now they were a part of around them. Brief Background:
Early Life: Shran started their early life as a simple livestock herder and transporter. (0-15) They enjoyed their life, but they had an arranged marriage that was put into place even before their birth. They rebelled against the plans put place before them for their life path and forged their own destiny. They were one of the youngest ever to be accepted into the Andorian War University, but they had spent much time studying and practicing in what little free time they was able on the livestock transports. (16)
Early Training: Their transfer into the Imperial Guard cadet was motivated by an attempt to spent time with their arranged Zhan who they had bucked tradition for and met early. This time is notable in that Vulcan heritage introduced into their clan’s genetic makeup and family culture in the last generation the mental disciple needed to access and control the mental abilities Andorians lacked. The Andorian Intelligence services worked with the University to provide Shran training for these abilities and used their time to help train other cadets and students how to defend against the use of such abilities.(16-19)
Early Career: Shran was much dismayed after joining the Andorian guard and being relegated to convoy guardian for much of their early career. He was separated from their Zhan who they had trained with. After successfully negotiated several incidents without live fire using diplomacy and telepathic abilities Shranval was able to arrange a diplomatic transfer into Starfleet academy for officer training. (20-21)
Early Career change: Shranval is transferred to Starfleet early in their career to receive diplomatic and exploration training to combine with their existing Andorian training to help as a bridge between the competing philosophies and help with diplomatic relations between Andoria, Vulcan, and other systems in the region. This is spurred not just by boredom but also as a chance to connect with their arranged shen and chan who are also training at the academy. (22)
Academy days: Shranval is so inspired after meeting their future mates that they even change their major studies at the academy dropping their later operations courses and switching to an engineering double major to spend more time with their chan, and minoring in security to spend time with their zhen. It did not go unnoticed by many that this over achiever spent all their spare and off time in the botany gardens looking for excuses to hang out with their shen. These distractions resulted in a more rounded education but caused them to leave their advanced officer training for later in their Career. (22-25)
Major Career Event: Called out superiors in academy for non-ethical behavior. It causes quite the spectacle when this young security trainee formally arrested and charged a fleet admiral who not only taught at the academy but oversaw operations for a major department. However, the admiral did violate protocol and despite opposition Shran had done everything by the book. In the end it was decided charges could be dropped and the whole thing could be called a training exercise, owing to all the lessons learned all around, the training that had in fact happened through the incident for many involved cadets, and the minor nature of the violation. (25)
Major Career Event: Learned unique language and communicated with hive mind and species prior thought to be non-sentient. This had a large impart in Shrans philosophy and got them to refocus on the command track. Starfleet had forced the Shonthoths to start their careers in separate postings despite their marriage having been formalized at the Academy. This gave Shranval the time and focus they needed to finish their officer training quickly and receive their next posting in a command-oriented position.(26)
Minor Career Event: Val Spent 2 years as junior operations officer on an Akira class heavy cruiser in the beta quadrant where they continued their officer track command training. During this time, they were able to arrange transfers and slowly bring their bond group back together in one ship as their period of fertility was approaching and the looming andorian extinction crisis looming over their heads. The Shonthoths have their first few litters of children and request a transfer to a ship that is a little more family friendly than the war machine that is an Akira Class destroyer. (26-27)
Current: Shran has now transferred to a senior command posting on ship along with their marriage bondgroup. They has much experience at this point in their career along with on-the-job command training, but this is their first posting as a commander. They also now has a growing family and hopefully as time goes on many more children. (28)

"I love what you have done with the place" Shran lays back. "Grass, You say?"
"Yeah" Evithiashezohreq replied. She ran her hands over the green blades. "Traditionally the area around the family domicile on earth would be planted with this vegetation which was used agriculturally for animal feed but kept trimmed and used as a biological carpet."
'val' laid back in a short sleeved undershirt. He enjoyed spending the 4th shift lounging in the ships botanical garden instead of sleeping in their quarters. "Wasn't that part of the societal control system? spending all those resources maintaining a pointless vanity monocrop? " Thrann teased Shen. "The idea was copied from the royalty who used it a means to show off their wealth." They rolls over onto their chest.
She looks at them crossly.
"I like the way it tickles our skin"
She smiles, but only briefly as they are interrupted before she could begin debating with her husband by a red alert.
Shranval stands up immediately, grabbing their communicator and slapping it onto their chest. They make their way out the door without a word. The lights flicker and there are loud noises, the ship shakes. Val's antennae search the air. 'engineering' they say out loud to only themself as they find they are already speed walking to engineering. Val figured they would probably be the closest senior officer and it would be where they would be most needed.
As they walked in the door their ears scanned the rooms overlapping conversations. Three things stood out to them. Discussion of water contamination in the matter anti matter converter was the first. They knew instantly that any matter leaking into the antimatter stream would spell annihilation. The next was biological plant dna being detected in an explosion. This stood out as highly unusual. The ship had no bioneural circuitry. The third was the junior officer in charge, ‘warp core breach imminent’ where the only words they needed to hear to know they must act. They were in safe enough space, and close to backup. There was no need for any unnecessary risks.
Suddenly the room goes dark. 'Val' looked down. 'Ok', they told themself internally. 'Its official. there is no going back from this.' they retrieved a hand from the warp core manual eject system. Their ears picked up someone issuing orders to begin prepping for repairs. "belay that order." They could feel the panic in the room and imagined the same on the bridge.
The XO took a moment to steady themself from the overwhelming emotion of the crew. They needed to help everyone stay focused, and on task. All eyes and ears are now on them. They tapped their communicator. briefly flashes of the Akira incidents appeared in their mind. Several ships dropping out of warp catastrophically, entire fleets of ships drydocked for decades while the problems were worked out. They focused the mind.
"Executive Officer Shranval Th'shonthoth in engineering, ship wide announcement." As they talked, they walked over to the nearest console and entered command codes pulling up the executive functions. After they tapped a few buttons, the lights dim and several ship systems shut down. A muted alert signal plays. "Black alert status, silent running. The warp core has been ejected. All systems now in standby or disabled. We don't want to get found out here helpless. Minimize our presence for any who may be looking around.
Notify Starfleet of our situation on an encrypted subspace channel, disguise it under a standard decoy supply transmission." a pause for a moment, imagining the sternest Vulcan instructors. They had practiced that dreaded superior Vulcan stare just so that we could use it back at them in some moment of victory. They channeled their best Vulcan. 'calm' they told themself. 'project for the crew, they need this now'
They continued with the announcement "Foreign biological plant contaminants were found in the warp core and a crisis was narrowly averted by the talented night crew here. We have enacted quarantine procedures in main engineering. Primary damage assessments are still underway.
Engineering staff will coordinate with operations and preform a level one diagnostics on the entire ship, all systems. The crew here with me under quarantine will do the same in main engineering.'We were just in the botany labs' “since there was plant material detected at the incident this is to be a science division led investigation."
The XO paused to let that sink in before continuing to other matters.
Security will create a prioritized list of ship systems to get back online and perform a safety check on all our vips, and secure them to the VIP deck, then perform a sweep of the ship for possible sources for this biological contamination.
Con, retrieve our warp core, it's important.
Science, you are to work with the captain and head an investigation into the cause of this trouble. It MUST be isolated before we attempt repairs. This entire ship is now under quarantine until each section can be scanned and cleared. As far as we know, main engineering is ground zero. We will need decontamination and containment teams.
They pause again giving everyone a chance to digest his instructions before continuing
We don't want this spreading or damaging any additional systems. We will not have an Akira incident on this ship. WE WILL find the problem before we attempt to repair systems and destroy any evidence. Limping back into that StarBase to get stuck in drydock for a decade while a bunch of technicians disassemble and reassemble every system on our ship is NOT an option.
They pause for a moment, debating with themself, then decide to continue adding in one more bit.
We have been led to understand that humans preform best under pressure. Those of you on our crew, now is your chance to show the blue skins and green bloods what you are made out of. Put your adrenaline to some use and show us what you pink skins are capable of. XO OUT."
'Ok, maybe not the best speech ever, but hopefully the crew is thinking it more of a fun science investigation instead of the dangerous engineering crisis it really was, while still being sufficiently motivated.' The XO took a deep breath and focused the mind again. the crew was still anxious but not as bad as before. It took much less mental energy to hold back the onslaught of emotion now.
They looked around the room. The young engineer who had been leading the late shift looked visibly shaken. The XO walked over and stood behind her. "Your actions doubtlessly saved lives."
"I didn't eject the core, that was you." she retorted
"You made sure there was still a core for me to eject when I got here and gave me the information I needed to make an informed command decision, all while keeping your professional bearing." She looked a little unsure but Shranval could feel her relaxing. They continued "Every sentient lifeform on this vessel owes you their life."
"and you"
"That is entirely beside the point, I simply followed protocol and did my job. Focus! We have a mystery to solve now, after you remember your quarantine procedures and get your crew suited up in environmental suits."
She snapped to suddenly at the mention of the procedures. "Quarantine procedures! that's right." she stood quickly, "everyone! over by the escape hatch, everyone into suits, you heard the XO. Once you are safe in a suit we are getting the scanners and diagnostics tools and stripping down everything we can touch, be prepared to get dirty and crawl down cramped tubes you have never been in, we are going to be thorough."
Shranval looks down at his white pajama shirt, ‘My second shift hasn’t even started yet’ he thought to himself. “Expect the unexpected” he said aloud to no one in particular.

Shran walks into their quarters. It is morning aboard a new Norway Class Star ship, The USS Tomoe Gozen, designation NCC 62643. It had completed trials just weeks ago, and a young ensign now stands nervously at the door as the large broad thraan Andorian Vulcan hybrid studies their new quarters in detail.
The ensign waits eagerly. She had gone over every detail three times over and knows her exacting detail will not go unnoticed by the Commander's sharp eyes, ears, or antenna. She had reviewed their personnel file. They had grown up in space, tending to livestock transports and joining the Imperial Guard at a young age. Upon graduating the Andorian military academy, they returned to the outer systems protecting transports vital to Andorian interests for the Imperial Guard.
After several diplomatic incidents early in their career they had been transferred to Starfleet as their superiors thought their talents would better protect Andoria in the first contact and diplomatic capacity as opposed to that of a warrior.
It was hard for her to even imagine them even staying in the same room together long, despite being founding members of the federation together. As complicated as Andorian mating was and as Secretive as Vulcans where, and with their history she wondered at how that could ever occur? and if it was something she could even find a way to ask about? Her personal experience was that Vulcans and Andorians where like night and day... so how would this strange new first officer who was on track to oversee her ship act?
She is snapped out of her thoughts by the realization that the Andorian is no longer studying the room but studying her. Their sharp white and dark brown eyes and short white hair entrancing her momentarily as they stare into her soul. He smiles warmly. "Your preparations have exceeded our expectations. You have our gratitude. We will be expecting the same level of care and attention to detail for the quarter customizations for our diplomatic VIP’s.’"
Despite their transfer not having been approved yet by the captain, they stood in the here and the now inspecting her handiwork... no, inspecting her. They were still inspecting her. She thought to herself, what are they looking for? What do they want? She realized that lost in thought she had forgotten to brief them. "Oh yes, thank you sir. Your instructions were quite clear and specific." She smiled with pride and hoped they would look past her error. " The commander nods at the ensign with a smile and motions to the door. "Thank you for confirming our current mission status. Please inform the senior crew of our arrival and inform them we are ready to meet at their earliest convenience."
The Andorian dropped their clothes once they were alone and entered the warm bubbling water of the tub. They sank down and felt the weight of several worlds lift of their shoulders as they lets the warm water cover their body. They closed their eyes and focused their energy and emotion. They thought to themself how difficult the times ahead would be and how important it would be to hold onto everything coursing through them now in the days ahead if Starfleet was going to even keep them around. Their attention to detail, and obsessiveness had earned them high marks on their last assignment, but they had also ruffled lots of feathers. They thought about possible futures and how they might respond if Starfleet thought they was more trouble than they were worth and decided to send them back to the Andorians. They thought of how their clan would respond and the rippling effect it would have on their people. Why had so many put so much responsibility on their back. They have a moment of weakness and lets their mind wander to the trivial, and they think back to the young perky ensign, so focused on her own work and the ship, oblivious to the greater worries of all the worlds outside the windows of the ship. oh, how they envied that. They let their mind swim in these feelings for a while before again focusing on their own path and that of the ship they now found themself on.
After a few moments of this they came back up and breached the surface again, taking a deep breath. "It is now our sacred duty to protect and impart wisdom to all the souls the universe has placed in our care for the good of the whole..." They let out a deep sigh and sank into the water again.
END SIMULATION.
"What?! Already?"
"Yes, Casualties?"
"All crew members on staff where accounted for when I did a head count, and no casualty reports where received."
"The junior officer on duty was shocked and did not provide you a full report. Two crew members where injured in the initial explosion." He pauses for a second to let the commander ponder.
"Extra duty shifts. They snuck in to get some work done while off duty."
"Yes, something you should be familiar with judging from your service record. Two avoidable casualties perished while you were down here coordinating. This is an unacceptable oversight. Spend some more time studying those command materials."
Val is deep in thought.
"Now, if you will excuse me. I have other matters to attend to."

BRIEF HISTORY
Son of a Vulcan Scientist Father (Suvok) and Vulcan Starfleet Officer Mother (T'Val), Revan spent the majority of his childhood with his father at home on Vulcan as his mother's career often made minding a child impossible. Being raised in the True Vulcan fashion, the son of a Vulcan Science Academy Instructor was easily accepted into the Academy, where he would go on to not only further his own expertise in the technical applications of proving a hypothesis but also graduate with the expectation he would follow in his father's footsteps. His mother's sporadic influence resulted in disappointment for Vulcan as Revan choose Starfleet, instead.
While his time at Starfleet Academy not only refined his technical disciplines, it also reinforced the importance of cautious consideration despite the influences his peers had on him. This allowed him to gain perspective on his mother's dedication to Starfleet, allowing him to both admire and forgive her. This widened perspective proved useful when early in his career, the ship Revan was stationed upon was shunted from Warp by a previously unmapped spatial anomaly. Given his expertise in the subject, and through collaboration with the ship's Science Officer, the ship was able to modulate its own 'Warp Bubble' to break free of the powerful gravimetric currents, ensuring the survival of the ship and its crew.
The loss of his mother in the Battle of Wolf 359 further proved to Revan that exploration; the expansion of society's knowledge, was the key to stopping any threats. Not everything previously unknown was necessarily a 'threat' as the Engineering Officer found himself being tasked with dealing with a previously unencountered Alien Species that had been inaccurately believed to be a 'space parasite' that was quickly draining the ship's dilithium reserves. Despite the order to eliminate the 'threat' that could have left the Deep Space Explorer adrift far from any support, Revan, instead, discovered the ability to communicate with the species through numerous 'bursts' of spatial radiation. While not without some 'choice words' from his commanding officer, the Engineer was able to ensure the crew's survival and develop new methods for dealing with such species.
Upon his return to Starfleet Headquarters, Revan spent several years collaborating with different Federation scientists about what he'd learned and also spent a stint as an instructor at Starfleet Academy. Even if completely unexpected, his father had expressed how "proud" of his son he was for all he'd contributed to the Sciences. When the opportunity to embark on another, newly commissioned Exploration Vessel arose, it was an easy choice for the Vulcan. While the USS Tomoe Gozen was certainly smaller than his previous postings, it would travel further into unknown space than ever he'd had the opportunity before, which meant it needed a Chief Engineer that could ensure success no matter what the ship encountered.

This trait may reduce the Difficulty of Tasks to resist extreme cold, or Tasks impacted by extremely low temperatures. Their antennae aid in balance and spatial awareness; a lost antenna can be debilitating until it regrows. Andorians also have a high metabolism, meaning, amongst other things, that they tire more quickly than Humans; this also makes them more vulnerable to infection from certain types of injury. Before the Federation, Andorians and Vulcans had numerous disputes; though these issues are largely considered to be ancient history, Andorians and Vulcans don’t always get along.

Pollyanna doesn’t remember her mother, being raised by her human father instead. Nor has she ever gotten an answer to how he became her father. As a child, she grew up on ships constantly on the move making it hard to make friends and often felt isolated and alone. Her Father being a high-ranking Starfleet officer had little time for her and often or not the ships he served on were small specialised craft that had no other children aboard. This led to her often being left to her own devices unsupervised and all sorts of hijinks ensued as she tried to gain attention.
Her father never approved of much of what she did as it often distracted him from his work, which was always more important. However, in one of the rare moments when he did spend time with her, he took her to Andoria to meet her people. Though they didn’t stay as long as he would have liked as Polly found out she had a mean right hook after another child her age had said something mean.
As she grew older and became more and more rambunctious her father decided he couldn't deal with this anymore, sending her off to be enlisted into Starfleet as a grunt, let them sort her out. (the old human equivalent of sending your delinquent child to military boot camp). To say Pollyanna was most upset about this arrangement would be a polite way to say it.
Her time as an enlisted cadet did not start smoothly to the point it nearly didn’t. Furious at her father for abandoning her she lashed out at everyone around her. While Starfleet tried to provide counselling, she continued to push the bounds of acceptable cadet behaviour and was swiftly reaching the point where Starfleet was ready to be done with her. However, around this time a new trainer transferred in, an older Klingon by the name of Retragh Iji. He found Pollyanna amusing and having raised a few children of his own declared that she didn’t need counselling, she needed a parent, personally taking charge of her training. While Pollyanna did not at first appreciate being pulled form her bed at the morning hour, nor the forced laps around the station in whatever she had worn to bed, if anything at all. Nor once exhausted to be quizzed on the various topics she was supposed to be learning. She did appreciate how he never gave up on her and when she had reach her limit he’d take her down to the Klingon bar to relax. He never asked for her respect he simply earned it. She did not care that her biological father did not show for her Pass-In-Review, it was Retragh Iji she honoured. He for his part smiled, told her she wasn’t done yet and handed her a recommendation to the Academy.
She tackled the academy with gusto trouncing many other students in the operations track in all things personal combat. While she was still a wild card who would push the patience of her instructors and get into trouble, she still worked hard and got decent passing grades. At one point they decided to put her up against the Kobayashi Maru, an infamous no-win scenario designed to test character. She became obsessed with it attempting the test 147 times and watched numerous (343) recordings of other students taking the test. 23 of her attempts have been noted as 'insane, suicidal, yet plausible. The programmers in charge of the test are still cursing her name. She invited Retragh Iji to her graduation and he proudly accepted. Inviting his other children as well. On her graduation day, she received a communique from her father. Though she never listened to it, she sent a reply “You did not get me here. If you want to apologise to me, do so in person. Otherwise, go boil your head.”
She was assigned to the USS Serenity a Miranda Class ship that mainly provided escort for civilian vessels. During one such mission, the Serenity and the ship it was escorting were attacked by Nausicaan pirates. While ultimately the Serenity was destroyed it had managed to disable the Nausicaan ship’s engines and shields. Pollyanna used this chance to lead a team in exo-suits to breach and capture the pirate vessel. Allowing the survivors from the Serenity to beam aboard (using the Nausicaan ship’s teleporters) and contact Starfleet for further assistance, rather than be scattered to the verse in life pods with little chance of survival. While this was an indirect violation of her superior officer’s orders he instead commended her for her bravery, knowing full well her reckless actions had saved his life and many others. (especially since the Nausicaan’s weapons were still operational and firing on the life pods. Though he never told Polly he’s on record saying he swore his pod was next and then that damn Andorian’s voice comes over comms saying they’d captured the enemy vessel. He was too relieved to be furious.)
As a note, the civilian vessel they had been escorting escaped with minor damage due to the Serenity’s sacrifice.
-[Refinement in progress]-
'What a mess' she thought as she surveyed the scene of the 'accident/incident' She already had a security team secure the site to make sure there were no more dangers present and only authorised personnel had access to the area. As in the engineering and science team members who were investigating and cleaning up the mess. She was a hammer and this problem was not a nail. However, there were ways she could help out. Like accessing the security footage! She grabbed the more intellectual members of her division and sent invites for the heads of engendering and science to join them or to send a representative if they so wished. They would meet up at the Holodeck and walk through the events to see if they couldn’t glean what had happened. The last thing she wanted was their ship being defeated by a salad.

Lynette grew up with a disruptive childhood (An only child) with her mother passing when she was very young and her father in Starfleet (Unwilling to place his daughter at risk on his tour of duty) so she was left in care to her uncle. She became very independent, headstrong with a passion for taking things apart and putting them back together and tinkering. Lynette had a rebellious streak about her and many times defied her uncles wishes to the point she would go joyriding in his shuttle which lead to her butting heads with authority. Her uncle (In discussions with her father) attempted to convince her to get into Starfleet (Feeling boredom was a major part of her rebellion) but Lynette at that time refused. It wasn't until the Borg incursion and the battle of Wolf 359 (where her father had died aboard the Bellerophon) that she eventually came around to accepting...just to get away.
Lynette's passion for flying (Hands on the controls of a craft) continued to the point of scaring the wits out of her colleagues and instructors with her daredevil approach) but she became a bane for her instructors because her stubbornness and considered her a loose cannon with no sense of boundary or discipline. Though it was by her skill and unique ideas that she wasn't simply mustered out of the academy.
Lynette barely graduated and she bounced between one or two assignments (due to disagreements with her CO) but it was her assignment aboard the USS Frederickson that she eventually mellowed as the XO took a different approach in handling her rebellious Ensign and her change lead to an eventual promotion. Unfortunately during an away team her XO ended up dying unexpectedly and with that loss Lynette asked for a transfer due to the emotional trauma.
Personality:
There’s a running joke among the joined Trill that the Paix symbiont is “Lucky”. He does seem to know it, the merging of his personality with previous hosts have made him more of a risk taker. Willing to bend rules a bit for a good cause, Narvan signed onto medical school before joining but after he decided to go into Starfleet because he’s come to the conclusion that he’s played things too safe. Time to really make a difference.
Background:The story of a Joined Trill is two stories in one, the Host and the Symbiont. Narvan will tell you that there was no real traumatic event or past horror that got him into medicine, he just always wanted to help people. This crystallized into an interest in medicine when nearby Federation world Ennan 6 had an epidemic and Starfleet asked for volunteers. A lot of Trill went as they were naturally incompatible with the disease anyway. Studying both for Medical School and as an Initiate was a challenge of course but one he expected. His Joining procedure was about a month before he would officially begin actual Medical School, and to everyone's surprise the first thing he did when he regained consciousness after the surgery was transfer to Starfleet Medical.
The Symbiont Paix is jokingly considered 'Lucky' by other Trill. Mostly in that it's nearing it's 300th birthday and it's only on it's 6th host instead of the normal 7th or 8th. Some of that from being fairly cautious in it's early lives, some of that from seeming miraculous escapes from death. Narvan is the 6th host of the Paix symbiont, and only the second male host. There were jokes in medical school that he'd sometimes forget he was male as he got used to the symbiosis, which he took in stride. Because, let's be honest, he thought it was genuinely kind of funny.
Yirull, Jaulu, Uzra, Husa, and Ruebae. A Career Diplomat, an Athlete, a Politician, an Architect, and a Thief respectively. Yirull, Jaulu, and Husa were also Wives and Mothers and Grandmothers, Uzra a Groom and a Father. Ruebae also had her fair share of lovers and considered having children but decided against it. Ruebae obviously the most controversial of Navran's past lives as at one point she was considered a strong contender for the best Thief in the Galaxy, it's commonly believed that Ruebae only managed to keep from getting the Paix symbiont exiled thanks to her crimes never reaching Murder and usually having a Robin Hood angle as the humans would say.
A Joined Trill finding the joining making their careers better isn't a surprise, that it worked so well is. Before the joining Navran was going to be an excellent if by-the-book Doctor. Now he has the ability to go beyond the pages of medical texts, to think laterally and solve puzzles. Not to mention you'd be amazed how handy the skills of a master criminal are when it comes to dealing with regulations and paperwork are, or at least getting past them. He probably could have been the Validictorian of his class if concentrated on that, instead he decided to be satisfied with being in the top 10% so he could have some time to explore Earth and other nearby worlds on time off. Now in Starfleet the Paix symbiont doesn't really play things safe anymore. Funny how it took being a criminal for a lifetime is what it took for him to live a little.
And, who knows, it might be just what the mission needs.
