Oh yeah definitely, it was something I was workshopping, but knowing Chakrams work, that's what I'm gonna go for!

App Name: Farmer Jensen Blossombee Race: Stout Halfling Alignment: Chaotic Good Class: Bard (Creation) Personality: Farmer Jensen is a small and unkempt halfling. He's usually your everyday happy-go-lucky halfling farmer, always giving away free apples to starving children and whatnot. Though don't mention aliens and crop circles, it gets him in a mood that would be described as a mix of paranoia, craziness and conspiracy, just lots and lots of conspiracy. He is always fixated on such subjects whenever mentioned. Backstory: Jensen was born with the Blossombees, a family of halflings. Though the circumstance of his birth was certainly strange, for one he wasn't born from his mother's womb but from a pea in a pod. John Blossombee was busy harvesting when he found a baby growing out of the pod. They pulled him out and being the generous folk they are, they didn't question it and decided to take care of this strange baby. And Jensen was born. He had a humble-ish life where folks just love talking to him. Though he was rather peculiar, for one he exhibited unusual amounts of magical power, he could create things out of thin air, mind control people, give them a boost of power with strange and alien words, etc.. Secondly, he seems to be a first witness to everytime the farm gets vandalized. He claimed that some unidentified flying object, or UFO as he coined it, was responsible for it. Though he was never believed. That is until the neighboring farms started seeing these sightings and experiencing strange and weird stuff. For days, Farmer Jensen went ballistic, always saying that he knew all along and he started writing down things. Started being all conspiratory, even adding in that the crown could actually be something alien in disguise. He was forever known as the town's UFO expert and residential kook. The townsfolk really didn't care much, the UFO's weren't doing anything strange save for abducting some cheese and dairy products, forming circles on their crops and turning their gravity upside down, they really didn't think that's all strange when magic happens in this town all the time. This did not help Jensen's ego and paranoia one bit. However, things started to get crazy all of a sudden, and as Jensen had predicted all along, the world was suddenly about to end. It was also at that point that John Blossombee decided to come clean and talk about his son's actual birth, since his coming of age, the whole end of the world thing didn't bother him much. This sudden and strange revelation blew Jensen's mind, he thought his father was lying but when he showed him a crater that he managed to dig up a long time ago, Jensen bore witness to a meteor covered in strange gooey substance. He realized that he might be telling the truth, and also realized that he was an alien himself, meaning that his birth family may have been the UFO. Thinking on this new thought process, he decides to leave his adopted family and search for his blood family, find out who he is and rub it on everyone's face that he was right all along. Where did Farmer Jensen go, no one knows? He mysteriously vanished as soon as he left.

I'm interested but I don't know anything about spelljammer. Could I have some help with actually building a character for this? I'm only barely cognizant of 5e's base rules as it is.

You actually do not need any knowledge of Spelljammer to create a character. In fact, your character should be a normal, 5e forgotten realms D&D character.

You can use this lack of information you don't have of Spelljammer to enjoy a fantastical DND space journey that you will most definitely survive!

Alright, quickly got a character together!

Application Pik'chyat Thri-Kreen Horizon Walker Ranger (5) Background Pik'chyat was a renowned hunter who backpacked her way across the Wildspace, bagging any big game she could. However, she found herself stranded on an unknown planet when the passenger ship she rode on erupted into flames and crashlanded. Pik woke up to see that she was the only survivor of the crash. Now stuck far from her home, she decided to make the best of her situation to survive the new world she was on. Her Ranger capabilities helped her as she scavenged through the forest for a few months. Pik's prowess as a hunter wielding her spinning chakrams was more than enough to deal with the many fleshy beings of the forest. In her desires to return home, she gained a knack of tapping into unseen pathways and portals to flank her enemies. It wasn't long however before Pik found herself among a group of humans and gnomes. At first taken aback by her appearance, they slowly warmed up to her and soon she gained a rapport. Pik told them of her story, about her quest to hunt the strongest beings in the universe and return home to her tribe. They sat in rapture over her tales of the endless space. One of them realized that the craft she was looking for could be at the nearby town. Grateful for a direction and help, she decided to make her way over to the nearby town. Maybe there she can finally find a way home. Appearance/Personality Pik'chyat's hard carapace resembles that of a desert flower that grew on her homeworld. While Thri-Kreen tend to mirror the surroundings for survival and stealth, most of the time Pik can be found sporting her faint pink colors out of vanity. She's quick to run and capture prey with her practiced hunting abilities. She often will wear a dark cloak to hide most of her features as she understands she is an alien to this world. Info Age: 25 Ideals: Strength is found in your hunt. May you hunt well and in good company. Background: Outlander Bonds: Wishes to return home to her tribe and loved ones. Alignment: CG Flaws: Can be very vain about her appearance, and over prideful of her abilities. Size: Medium Physical: 6'5", 188 lbs Notes I've always wanted make a cool Thri-Kreen kinda character as it's my favorite style of alien. Drew her up as an orchid mantis with the abilities to portal around the battlefield. She has a bit of a Xena flair with her chakrams, but is mostly focused on the hunt for her peoples.

Had a sort of Good News / Bad News situation happen. So apparently I missed the part about how characters have to start the game not even knowing what Spelljamming is.

In fairness to Niz, it was there the whole time and I missed it. I also want to add that he did try to meet me halfway on this, I just couldn't get Hee to work even with that.

So I'm retracting Hee. Not deleting the post in case I can use the idea somewhere else. In the meantime, I can think of a replacement.

The Clockmaker's Apprentice Name: Uriros Lighttrick Flickerlob Race: Rock Gnome Alignment: LG Class: Artificer (Battle Smith) [Reskinned for more of a Clockwork theme.] Personality: Mild-Mannered Uriros is not the kind of person you expect to be a hero in the slightest. He does have principles, and he's braver then he gets credit for if not by much, but he'd be much happier in his little workshop left alone with his little devices. He's actually a very talented Horologist, a Clockmaker, more than he even knows. He can even put a little magic in his creations - but he has no idea how much. Backstory: It's somehow both tragic and amusing that Uriros has such an eye for detail and yet is missing some really big details about his own life. A foundling with no idea that this is the case, he was a good kid who followed the rules and didn't hit the smaller ones and all like that. Some would say timid, but he was scholarly with an eye for detail. Enough that he started experimenting with making his own toys at a young age, and they were good enough to impress and get an Apprenticeship. Now he's an Apprentice Clockmaker. He loves his work, and he's really good at it. In fact according to his mentor Uriros is better then he was when that age the same age. Uriros gets the impression he's just being nice, but he does enjoy the work. It's peaceful, meditative, and the ticking - so relaxing for him. He could almost sleep to it. There's two very important things Uriros doesn't know that will soon become very relevent in his life. One, his biological mother may have given him up at birth - but being the son of a Demigoddess is still going to have an impact on his potential whether he knows it or not. The Second, being that the skillsets of Clockmakers and of Spelljammer Aetherngineers have much more overlap then most beings realize...

SPELLJAMMER APPLICATION Name: Nym Heiric Race: Wood-elf Alignment: CN (CN for himself; the world should be more Lawful and Good) Class: Rogue/Druid Personality:   Nym has spent the last 400+ years of his long life wandering the lands and sea, doing his part to explore ruins as an amateur grave robber gentleman adventurer, protecting the wild and the beasts, and killing people who needed killing…the last generally motivated by the middle priority, though more than one abusive human lord has died for excessive taxation under his ‘watch.’ He is not quick to anger, but he can be quick to assign a minor lordling abusing nature, commoners, or both to the often fatal Naughty List. He doesn’t challenge liches, vampires, etc though; he’s arrogant but not stupid. Sometimes he goes into seclusion for several years just to overcome his boredom with shorter lived folk. Yet he doesn’t get along with other elves any better, except the crazy ones, i.e. adventurers. He does like the ephermal oddballs who reach for the stars but he doesn’t get attached to any of them, as they tend to be even shorter lived then their stay at home relatives. He is, for an elf, an unusually restless soul, always looking for something new…or someone who needs killing. Backstory:   Nym didn’t fit in as a child though he did try, struggling to conform to his family’s expectations. But though a part of him loved the unspoiled portions of the world, he never felt truly at home there--or among his tribe, the people of the Long ForestAn-glad. He didn’t understand it, but the uncommon wanderlust (for a wood elf) that gripped him was because he shares in the soul of an astral elf marooned on this world a few thousand years ago. This gave him a frustrated, often detached perspective, lacking in empathy, without the calm pride typical of his kin. Nym dropped out of his training as a druid after a quiet discussion with the council of elders prompted him to take up a very different profession at the tender age of 50: espionage. The An-glad tribe he came from was often (but not always) aligned with the goals of the Harpers. The wood-elf blossomed under the training he received from them, though they would be less pleased had they known of the knowledge and skills the young man sought in the darker corners of the large cities. It was there, ironically, that he made greatest use of his ability to shift into beast form; many of his targets ignored that tomcat in the alley until it was too late. Nym still felt that wanderlust though, pushing him farther afield away from his homeland, and joined trouble seeking fighting ‘heroes’ on ‘missions.’ While adventuring in his younger days—a mere lad of 120—his party investigated the ruins of a scholar’s observatory/workshop and the wood-elf had a tragic epiphany that gave context to what he had seen in trances. The artifacts and fragmentary records showed that there were other inhabited worlds…but there was no clue how he could go to them. This was what he had done in a previous life, this was what he should be doing in this life. And he couldn’t. After searching for hundreds of years, he is no closer to getting off of Faerun, and it has made him a disappointed man. His ruthless killings of the An-glad’s enemies irritated the Harpers, and his ‘freelance’ killings of oppressive humans irritated the elders. Eventually Nym limited his contact with both, and while he isn’t shunned by his tribe he isn’t really welcome either. The An-glad have taken to calling him Nov, the Hollow Man. That doesn’t stop them from making demands on his time.

Character App WIP Name: Race: I wanna try a Satyr if that's okay. I didn't even know that was a race until I clicked the link you have in the OP. Alignment: True Neutral Class: Maybe Fighter. Race: Kalashtar

Class: Aberrant Mind Sorcerer

Personality: Mori is polite and generally try’s to act kind when she can afford to be, although she can quickly become
irritated at people for the smallest things, and has developed an excellent poker face in an attempt to hide these usually irrational dislikes. (I do usually develop the personality during roleplay, so I can’t promise this’ll be 100% accurate.)

Backstory: Mori grew up in the middle of nowhere to a caring and relatively well-off family who held ownership over several gem mines. Through hard work and with her parents encouragement she eventually got into a relatively prestigious academy and decided to pursue a career in archeology, which would through a series of increasingly unlikely events eventually lead her to Violet. Mori would be offered by a mentor who saw promise in her a chance to view the work of several professionals uncovering a newly discovered ruin, which she gladly took up.

Things would take a turn for the worse however when something powerful would be unearthed and attract the attention of some unsavory figures. Illithid. An encounter later and Mori would end up with a Tadpole in her brain- however do to a chance convergence of Mori and the tadpoles psionic energies Mori’s Quori would be able to manifest enough power to cripple the tadpole. Preventing it from fully consuming Mori’s brain, and causing a partial case of amnesia in both Mori and the Tadpole (Which Mori named Violet) as a side effect. The two headmates eventually settled into an uneasy peace, but still occasionally bicker when their two separates world views and senses of morality collide. Now they work as interrogators for whoever’s willing to pay them, ripping thoughts out of peoples heads with their shared psionic abilities. (I’ll get into more detail on the specifics if I’m accepted.)

I'm thinking of applying with a warforged character, but from what I know, the Eberron setting is "cut off" from other D&D settings and cannot be accessed by Spelljammer ships. Should I come up with some alternate, non-Eberron backstory for my character?

Application: Darles Charwin Name: Darles Charwin Race: Hadozee Alignment: CN Class: Artificer (Artillerist) Appearance/Personality: With a mixture of bright orange and auburn fur covering most of his body (some patches singed off), Darles stands at 5 feet 6.25 inches; though he is usually stooped over an experiment or squat/sitting on a chair examining something. Darles always seems to be a little too enthusiastic about whatever it is he is currently working on, and tries to be friendly enough to the people around him. Just, please don't touch that object... Or lean against that other there... Oh gosh and make sure to stay at least 7 feet away from that... Science is his passion, and he enjoys showing others that it's probably theirs too—they just don't know it yet. Background/Backstory: Sage (Research and Development) Personality Traits: -I get really excited about my ideas and I can't wait to talk about them and start putting them into practice and tinkering with them and I want to tell you about how exciting it all is! -Life's an experiment, and I can't wait to see what happens. Ideal: Creativity. Half the world's troubles come from stodgy thinking, stuck in the past. We need innovative solutions. (Chaotic) Bond: A fellow student and I are racing to solve the same scientific puzzle. Flaw: I overlook obvious solutions in favor of complicated ones. Ever since a young age, Darles has had an affinity to experimenting and creating something from the parts of other items. "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts," the great Apeistole once said. Throwing caution to the wind, most experiments run by the Hadozee were focused on the results rather than ensuring it was run in the safest way. This quickly became apparent to the other sages in the academy, who required Darles to create a unique feature for his laboratory. Suspended above all his workstations are large volumes of water, for fire suppressant when something inevitably combusts. The academy also deemed it appropriate to assign Rin-Frescarsi, a white Dragonborn student, as Darles' permanent lab assistant. As a white Dragonborn, her cold breath was seen as an added level of protection for the facility. Although at first thinking herself a babysitter and being seen as a wet towel over his experiments, the two quickly grew to be good acquaintances and friendly rivals within the lab, always trying to outdo the other. Feeling like a fish that had grown too big for its pond, Darles looked to the night sky for the answer to his academic plateau. When word of a different type of academy on an island called Nimbral reached his ears, he packed his bags and prepared for the voyage. Saying goodbye to his lab partner, they both agreed to meet again with an even greater invention than the other's.
