Issue #2: Settling In
For hours after they had stopped the villainous trio, capturing two but unable to stop Small Haul from getting away, the unheroic business of helping clean up and giving their reports to the authorities took place. Silver Streak had made a point of investigating the food truck that had hid Quickshift and her Technobike. It had clearly been designed to transport the bike, its sides and top just being the facade of the food truck which was otherwise empty. Constructed to seperate at the roof and have each side drop on command the shell they created they closed was little more than an empty chamber on wheels. It had not all been methodical tasks though, Miss Olympus had some fun showing off for her new fans, demonstrating her powers and getting to know them a little bit. The girl she had made the wager for was a teenager named Rosy who had come from Ecuador with her family three years ago when her father secured a job as a structural engineer for Corpodyne. As much as Valorheart was eager to learn more about the Henchman and their plans, they had done their part and had to wait for the authorities to do theirs. Elysia had a clear system of cooperation and separation when it came to criminals and villains. Superheroes stopped them and the authorities - whether the New Liberty Police or the security branch of ARKO - processed them. By following this, Elysia made sure that everyone received a fair trial of any crimes they were accused of and prevented any loopholes from allowing a quilty party to avoid punishment because a hero violated a legal right in their eagerness to uphold justice. The questioning of the two captured Henchman by the NLP did not reveal much. Quickshift proved unwilling to talk, at least not anything that was not an insult or a string of curses, and while Crowdsource was willing to talk - at times rambling - he knew very little. He had been hired to wear the belt, which he called the Duplicator Belt, and assist in the robberies. Small Haul was always in charge. No, he had never seen him without his helmet. No, he didn't know his real name. No, he didn't know why they stole such odd and useless items. He received a message where and when to meet, was given the belt and the target. He was received his payment in cash at a drop point that was different each time. In all that wasted talk, two points of interest were revealed. The first being that the Duplicator Belt worked by a controlled chemical injection of a DNA specific fomula - in other words, a serum that was specific to the user and therefore rendered the belt useless to anyone else. The second was that throughout each heist, the Duplicator Belt - and presumably the Technobike - were sending data on their performance somewhere. The theory that these heists were being conducted as field tests of some kind began to take hold. The trials for Leslie Brown a.k.a Quickshift and John Smiters a.ka. Crowdsource were scheduled for sometime next month. As for Small Haul, no sign of him was found after the heist but he has been added to the NLP Wanted list. Then there were two days of paperwork and listening to Darren Shenmay from the Department of Hero Affairs explaining the benefits of being registered as a member team. An annual parade on 'Valorheart Day', an annual donation of to a charity of the team's choice in their name, access to T.C.A.N (Threat/Crime/Alert Network) which aggregates information from various law enforcement and criminal investigation organizations nd a $1M Property Damage Waiver that covers the team and its individual members. The final topic that was covered was the signing over of a ten year lease to Valorheart. It was for waterfront warehouse 2.3 miles south of the Glaston Waterworks that has been rezoned as a Headquaters Zone. And now you find yourself here, discussing that first fight and ideas for Valorheart's new headquarters.
