The Raiding Party

left-aligned image

The Moon Grove is the only place within miles and miles of Menzoberanzan where you might get a glimpse of true moonlight and then only if you are part of one of the ceremonies where the entire chamber is translocated with an area miles above the surface for perhaps an hour.

For now, the chamber only glints with an illusionary image of the night sky with twinkling stars. Lady Silveria stands in the center of the hundred yard diameter cave with soft green grass at her feet. She beckons to you in Drow sign and so you remove all footwear and then step onto the soft green grass of the chamber. It is natural grass from the surface grown and tended by the house druids. Feeling it under your feet is never dull, never ordinary.

When you get to Silveria she looks upon you saying, "As you may know we have family on the surface. Those of our house who could no longer stand the endless evil down here. Some of you may have met them or enjoyed part of their special community while others have not. What matters is the upcoming raid on the surface by house Higure who have received divinations that a raid on a certain surface city will harm our family. They likely think it will harm us here in Menzoberanzan but it is more likely that the raid will cause the city to attack our surface community."

She lets that sit a moment and says, "You will travel to the surface, locate the city near our community there, and stop the raid on the city. Lady Silverhair demands this of us and Matron Mother needs this done."

You may only communicate in Drow Sign or other non-verbal communication. You can still cast spells.Aphasia
+2 DEX, +1 CHA, Animal Handling, PerceptionDhampir: You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness as shades of gray.Darkvision | You don’t need to breathe.Deathless Nature | You have a climbing speed equal to your walking speed. In addition, at 3rd level, you can move up, down, and across vertical surfaces and upside down along ceilings, while leaving your hands free.Spider Climb | (+7, 1d4+3) Your fanged bite is a natural weapon, which counts as a simple melee weapon with which you are proficient. You add your Constitution modifier, instead of your Strength modifier, to the attack and damage rolls when you attack with this bite. It deals 1d4 piercing damage on a hit. While you are missing half or more of your hit points, you have advantage on attack rolls you make with this bite. When you attack with this bite and hit a creature that isn’t a Construct or an Undead, you can empower yourself in one of the following ways of your choice:
*You regain hit points equal to the piercing damage dealt by the bite.
*You gain a bonus to the next ability check or attack roll you make; the bonus equals the piercing damage dealt by the bite.
*You can empower yourself with this bite a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Vampiric Bite
Armor: All armor, shields | Weapons: Simple weapons, martial weapons | Saving Throws: Wisdom, Charisma | Skills: Persuasion, ReligionPaladin: The presence of strong evil registers on your senses like a noxious odor, and powerful good rings like heavenly music in your ears. As an action, you can open your awareness to detect such forces. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any celestial, fiend, or undead within 60 feet of you that is not behind total cover. You know the type (celestial, fiend, or undead) of any being whose presence you sense, but not its identity (the vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich, for instance). Within the same radius, you also detect the presence of any place or object that has been consecrated or desecrated, as with the hallow spell. You can use this feature a number of times equal to 1 + your Charisma modifier. When you finish a long rest, you regain all expended uses.Divine Sense (4/4) | Your blessed touch can heal wounds. You have a pool of healing power that replenishes when you take a long rest. With that pool, you can restore a total number of hit points equal to your paladin level × 5. As an action, you can touch a creature and draw power from the pool to restore a number of hit points to that creature, up to the maximum amount remaining in your pool. Alternatively, you can expend 5 hit points from your pool of healing to cure the target of one disease or neutralize one poison affecting it. You can cure multiple diseases and neutralize multiple poisons with a single use of Lay on Hands, expending hit points separately for each one. This feature has no effect on undead and constructs.Lay on Hands (25/25) | Fighting Style: You learn two cantrips of your choice from the cleric spell list. They count as paladin spells for you, and Charisma is your spellcasting ability for them. Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of these cantrips with another cantrip from the cleric spell list. (Sacred Flame, Toll the Dead)Blessed Warrior | Starting at 2nd level, when you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack, you can expend one spell slot to deal radiant damage to the target, in addition to the weapon’s damage. The extra damage is 2d8 for a 1st-level spell slot, plus 1d8 for each spell level higher than 1st, to a maximum of 5d8. The damage increases by 1d8 if the target is an undead or a fiend, to a maximum of 6d8.Divine Smite | By 3rd level, the divine magic flowing through you makes you immune to disease.Divine Health | TENETS OF DEVOTION
*Though the exact words and strictures of the Oath of Devotion vary, paladins of this oath share these tenets.
*Honesty. Don’t lie or cheat. Let your word be your promise.
*Courage. Never fear to act, though caution is wise.
*Compassion. Aid others, protect the weak, and punish those who threaten them. Show mercy to your foes, but temper it with wisdom.
*Honor. Treat others with fairness, and let your honorable deeds be an example to them. Do as much good as possible while causing the least amount of harm.
*Duty. Be responsible for your actions and their consequences, protect those entrusted to your care, and obey those who have just authority over you.
Oath of Devotion | One extra use of Channel Divinity is granted by Amulet of the Devout.
*Sacred Weapon. As an action, you can imbue one weapon that you are holding with positive energy, using your Channel Divinity. For 1 minute, you add your Charisma modifier to attack rolls made with that weapon (with a minimum bonus of +1). The weapon also emits bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light 20 feet beyond that. If the weapon is not already magical, it becomes magical for the duration. You can end this effect on your turn as part of any other action. If you are no longer holding or carrying this weapon, or if you fall unconscious, this effect ends.
*Turn the Unholy. As an action, you present your holy symbol and speak a prayer censuring fiends and undead, using your Channel Divinity. Each fiend or undead that can see or hear you within 30 feet of you must make a Wisdom saving throw. If the creature fails its saving throw, it is turned for 1 minute or until it takes damage. A turned creature must spend its turns trying to move as far away from you as it can, and it can’t willingly move to a space within 30 feet of you. It also can’t take reactions. For its action, it can use only the Dash action or try to escape from an effect that prevents it from moving. If there’s nowhere to move, the creature can use the Dodge action.
Channel Divinity 2/2 | Lvl 4 Feat: *You have advantage on Constitution saving throws that you make to maintain your concentration on a spell when you take damage.
*You can perform the somatic components of spells even when you have weapons or a shield in one or both hands.
*When a hostile creature's movement provokes an opportunity attack from you, you can use your reaction to cast a spell at the creature, rather than making an opportunity attack. The spell must have a casting time of 1 action and must target only that creature.
War Caster | Extra Attack
Warlock: You manifest an aspect of your patron’s dreadful power. As a bonus action, you transform for 1 minute. You gain the following benefits while transformed:
*You gain temporary hit points equal to 1d10 + your warlock level.
*Once during each of your turns, when you hit a creature with an attack roll, you can force it to make a Wisdom saving throw, and if the saving throw fails, the target is frightened of you until the end of your next turn.
*You are immune to the frightened condition.

You can transform a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. The appearance of your Form of Dread reflects some aspect of your patron. For example, your form could be a shroud of shadows forming the crown and robes of your lich patron, or your body might glow with glyphs from ancient funerary rites and be surrounded by desert winds, suggesting your mummy patron.
Form of Dread (4/4) | *Book of Arcane Secrets: You can now inscribe magical rituals in your Book of Shadows. Choose two 1st-level spells that have the ritual tag from any class’s spell list (the two needn’t be from the same list). The spells appear in the book and don’t count against the number of spells you know. With your Book of Shadows in hand, you can cast the chosen spells as rituals. You can’t cast the spells except as rituals, unless you’ve learned them by some other means. You can also cast a warlock spell you know as a ritual if it has the ritual tag.

On your adventures, you can add other ritual spells to your Book of Shadows. When you find such a spell, you can add it to the book if the spell’s level is equal to or less than half your warlock level (rounded up) and if you can spare the time to transcribe the spell. For each level of the spell, the transcription process takes 2 hours and costs 50 gp for the rare inks needed to inscribe it.
*Devil Sight: You can see normally in darkness, both magical and nonmagical, to a distance of 120 feet.
Eldritch Invocations | Your patron gives you a grimoire called a Book of Shadows. When you gain this feature, choose three cantrips from any class’s spell list (the three needn’t be from the same list). While the book is on your person, you can cast those cantrips at will. They don’t count against your number of cantrips known. If they don’t appear on the warlock spell list, they are nonetheless warlock spells for you. If you lose your Book of Shadows, you can perform a 1-hour ceremony to receive a replacement from your patron. This ceremony can be performed during a short or long rest, and it destroys the previous book. The book turns to ash when you die.Pact of the Tome |
Cantrip Shillelagh, Acid Splash, Shocking Grasp 1st Alarm, Find Familiar
Book of Shadows | Lvl 4 +1 STR, +1 CONASI

Having unlaced his boots and leaving them at the edge of the grass, Victor walked barefoot into the Moon Grove. The blades of grass and the soft earth felt good between his toes. He couldn't help but feel a little melancholy; he couldn't remember how long it had been since the last time. He would be forever grateful for the help he'd received from Vern, and from House Platin, but there were times when... he didn't miss the surface per se... bah, he couldn't put his finger on it. He was... nostalgic, was that the word? That might be it; nostalgic for his old life.

Either way, when he had the opportunity to do a job on the surface, he took it when he could. There was no harm in going up, no more than taking a moment to look at keepsakes. And there was something to be said for being under the brightness of the full moon; it was more comfortable than sunlight on his eyes. All things considered, defending this community would be like a trip down memory lane. He idly wondered if he'd run into anyone he knew. Of course, that might its own complications. He'd "gone missing" and turned undead years ago. Eh, you can't have everything. Though he was content with as much of everything he had. Hopefully, this little trip would work out well.

Alnor
right-aligned image

Alnor could hear the whispers as he made his way through the winding corridors and tunnels towards the Moon Grove chamber, he had seen the curious and sometimes sympathetic glances in his direction. To the vast majority of House Platin, the young Drow was so far removed from the hierarchy he was practically a servant, in any other house the adopted boy would have been a slave. The general consensus on the young man was he was always quick with a smile and pleasant to be around but he was unremarkable as drow go and he wouldn't rise above his already very low status. So why had he been summoned to the Moon Grove, surely he must be getting exiled from the family but no one could guess what he had done to be exiled to the surface through the translocating chamber.

Alnor could picture exactly what they were thinking and resisted the urge to laugh out loud at the absurdity of it, keeping his smile wide as he greeted everyone he came across, always pleasant and professional as a servant of one of the great houses should be. though if only they knew the truth then their stares and whispers would really run like wildfire through the house. Alnor was one of the Hidden, One of Lady Emeralds Shadows, and although she could not publicly show it, him being merely adopted into the household, he liked to think he was one of his mothers favourite children, despite his misfortune of not being born a female.

Stepping into the Moon Grove Chamber, he could not help but feel in awe of the surroundings, the grass at his now bare feet cool to the touch, real grass so far from a natural sun was a wonder in the Underdark, and he admired the exquisite craftsmanship of the mantle of stars overhead with wonder. As a graduate of the Sorcere he was well aware that it was an illusion but even with the knowledge of what it was and how it worked, he could not deny that the spell-craft was magnificent.

Alnor noticed almost immediately that he was not alone in the chamber nor the first to arrive, The High Priestess Silveria was in the centre of the grove, beckoning him forward quietly, her fingers dancing in sign both to himself and the human who had proceeded him into the room. Although calling his cousin human was a stretch, he might not fully understand what Victor was, but he knew that Uncle Vern's apprentice was no longer a fully living being.

His curiosity was piqued when he saw the man had also been called by Cousin Silveria for the task at hand whatever that might be. Alnor had not had much opportunity to interact with Victor before but he was aware that the man was a skilled warrior and by all accounts a talented battle mage as well. A Hidden Blade and a War-Caster, this didn't bode well he thought.

His suspicions were confirmed when the First Daughter tasked them with going to the surface and preventing a raid by House Higure. As 15th in line amongst the great house's, Higure was House Platin's most immediate inferior and their only way of advancing to a higher standing in Menzoberanzan society was to dispose of House Platin and assume their position. So Far the Mother Matron and her Wives had been able to outsmart and out manoeuvre Higure at every turn but it was no secret that the lower house possessed a greater fighting force than his family could produce without calling in aid from other houses, if Higure had decided to forego political scheming and launch a physical encounter then things could even very badly for Alnor's family. There was nothing he would not do to protect his family, and there was no one he would not strike down to keep his sister from harm.

After hearing the Lady Silveria's proclamation, Alnor gave her a low bow and as he returned upright, his servant's clothing, a deep navy blue meticulously clean and smart uniform shimmered and changed, within seconds being replaced with a midnight black loose fitting uniform, the garb of the Hidden, an Agent of the Mistress of Shadows. In keeping with the nature of his trade, and in deference to such a holy place as the Moon Grove, Alnor kept silent and resorted to Hand Sign to speak to the Lady Silveria

"In Service to the Mother Matron and the Honor of our House, I pledge my blade and my life that the task shall be done"

SableSable took her time heading to The Moon Grove. It wasn't every day she was explicitly told to leave the house, so she wanted to enjoy this walk. These were the days she didn't have to avoid the watchful gaze of House Platin as she passed by her old stomping grounds. Despite this being a work outing, Sable was having a joyous time darting between alleys, and hopping across rooftops. She knew no urgency in this moment, having left home early enough to allow herself this free time.

Sable was a shadow moving through the dark streets. While she wasn't avoiding the vigilant security of House Platin, she still made a point to not stand out. A Tiefling wasn't welcome in most places, let alone down in The Underdark. Her training and upbringing under the talented hands of Emerald Platin gave Sable the skills she needed to keep a low profile. With her hood raised, the normally jarring sight of her horns and red skin would fade into the greys and blacks of the stone walls. The most you'd be able to catch a sight of is the nearly glowing white orbs resting in her skull.

That being said, Sable delighted in this ability to fade into obscurity, ever grateful for the life Emerald had granted her. A gratefulness she was always eager to demonstrate. An alarm went off in her head, her internal clock told her she was out of free time. Oh, boo. She thought, and pouted to herself. She dropped onto the street from a rooftop and made her way to her assignment.

The path to The Moon Grove was one she had taken numerous times. Had she ever been invited to one of the ceremonies, and been magically ripped to the surface to view the true twinkling night sky, and bask in the glorious moonlight? No. Did she sneak there frequently to meditate under the peaceful visage of a shimmering night, fresh grass tickling her bare skin? Yes. It was a favourite place of hers to visit when she would train to tune out the ghastly whispers that plague her every waking moment. Whether she'd been given permission or not. There was something about the grass that soothed the voices. The grass, and with it all plant life in the underdark showed her that life could thrive and flourish, not despite the death around it, but because of it.

Sable arrived at the edge of the grass, and began untying her ragged, yet comfortable boots. The kind you wouldn't normally see on a member of a Drow house, but Sable embraced a street look, it let her blend in better. As she tucked them into her bag, she looked out into the grove to see others had arrived first. She was surprised to see the two familiar silhouettes standing before the high priestess.

It took her a moment to fully recognize him, Victor was admittedly less familiar to her, she'd seen him from time to time during her studies with Uncle Vern, though their reasons for seeing Vern were different enough that she'd never really spoken to him. Despite this she knew enough about Vern to know that the Magister wouldn't take just anybody under their wing, and so would prefer to stay on Victor's good side.

Now the other silhouette was unmistakable to Sable, and the sight of her brother Alnor being on the same mission would always put a smile on her face. At the sight of him, she became extra aware of the weight her dagger, Kanlur's Sting, put on her hip, however small it was. She thought about alerting him to her presence there, but she was feeling extra playful today.

She stepped out onto the grass, the feeling of the blades folding under her weight, and the way they would bounce up and tickle her feet when she would rock her weight side to side put her in a state of calm and euphoria. It's a sensation that's nearly impossible to replicate down here.

She leaned forward, her arms dangling beneath her torso. She took a lurching step forward and her arms swung up, her hands grasped onto her crescent horns like handlebars. She started forward in a strange combination of stumbling and skipping. She would tug on her horns, one at a time, as she would weave back and forth across the field as if she was steering herself wildly.

As she approached the spot where the others were standing, she careened into Alnor ramming into his side in an attempt to make him lose his balance. She would spin and stumble in front of him, and while her back was still to the lady Silveria she flashed Alnor some Drow sign, ""This should be fun."Nindol zhal'la tlu jivvin." Before she fell backwards hitting the ground in a rolling tumble before settling in the grass on her back staring up at Silveria. Her coils of hair pointing above her head instead of framing her face, appearing like a second set of horns.

When Silveria finished speaking Sable was filled with excitement. It wasn't often she could go to the surface, and she wouldn't be as out of place up there, giving her a little more freedom.

"So our Higure neighbors want to play? Don't they know Mother Matron doesn't appreciate when they play dirty?" She sat up and flashed a smile to her brother "I suppose we must teach them the rules again, Brother."

Alnor
right-aligned image

Alnor couldn't say for sure what made him glance to his side, perhaps it was the feel of a spark of his magic coming closer, or he had heard the sound of barely restrained laughter, or maybe his sharp eyes caught a flicker of movement, he wasn't sure but something caught his interest and his currently blue eyes flicked to the side in time to see a grinning demon barrelling and stumbling towards him, apparently steering herself by her own horns. As fast as Alnor was, even he wasn't quick enough to avoid the playful bundle of Tiefling colliding with his side.

But the brief warning was enough for him to roll with the situation, as the girl bounced off him forcefully but not harmfully, even in his surprised state he knew Sable wasn't trying to attack him, if she had wanted to do that he would never have seen her coming, Alnor used the momentum provided to roll with the impact, keeping his eyes on the girl even as he rolled onto his back, catching her hand signs before his feet came up and over and brought him back to his feet where he stood quietly and professionally again, once more poised and composed as a stern look appeared on his face at the girls antics, watching her laying back on the grass at Lady Silveria's feet.

Your idea of fun is going to get us in trouble little brat. Again"Really Sable? your already drunk off your feet at this time of the day? Its no wonder Mother doesn't let you out in public"

As stern as he tried to be, Alnor wasn't able to keep the grin off his face for more than few seconds as he stepped forward, intending to snag one of her ankles and lift her off her feet, she hated when he did that and held her upside down, something he did even more often when he hit his growth spurt and ended up being much taller than her. But before he had a chance, Sable sat up with a grin

"So our Higure neighbors want to play? Don't they know Mother Matron doesn't appreciate when they play dirty? I suppose we must teach them the rules again, Brother."

Reaching down, Alnor offered Sable a hand up, his smile warm and genuine as he saw the excitement and happiness in her eyes, a rare sight. "And what would you know about rules little sister? other than breaking them"

SableSable reached up, glad to have her Brothers assistance, clasped onto Alnors forearm, and when he grabbed hers in return, was hoisted up into her feet. She could see her own excitement rubbing off on him. Other than Emerald, he really was the only person who could truly read her pupil-less gaze.

"Oh Brother, you know better than I that you have to know the rules in order to break them. It's not like you ever turn down my ideas.Afterall, was it not you who taught me who to pick the locks on my chains when we would get caught?" Sable twirled on her feet while observing everyone who had been called to gather here at The Grove. The sight before her filled her with a sort of excitement for what was to come.

"What a dreadfully fantastic team we have. We've got a Drow that shines like the night sky, the embodiment of Lolths favour, a devil, my own Silent Sister of Eilistraee, a human, and My dearest Brother, and closest ally.a nobody. It's almost as if the very gods that granted little Higure's divine vision have come together to insure their defeat." Just as she was beginning a leap of excitement a thought struck her. She locked into place, looking like an art reference doll had been jammed into someone's bag. Her knees pointed towards one another and her elbows tucked into her ribcage. Her empty white eyes appeared even emptier for just a moment, before she awkwardly jerked her head to the side, her expression quizzical, the rest of her body still in the strange pose.

"How are we getting to the surface world?"

Try as he might, Alnor was unable to restrain the laugh escaping his lips as i pulled his sister to her feet, he could tell by the look in her eyes she was in a playful mood and unlikely to settle down quickly, especially not here in the Moon Grove. He hadn't ever brought it up but he had noticed how much more settled she seemed after she came here, it was heartbreaking that she did not feel the calling to Eilistraee like Narcella did. perhaps if she spent time here in the grove more she would not be as plagued as she was by her own voices but like him, she was not called to the light but was a creature of shadow. It took all of his considerable skills as an actor to hide the pain in his eyes and match her playful energy

"Ha, i said they were trouble sister, i never denied there were insanely fun ideas""I thought i taught you to pick locks so Mother didn't have to come down to your pit and let you out at meal times?"

Letting going of her arm, Alnor stepped back and let his sister twirl and dance in place, even he wasn't sure sometimes when her antics were an act or a genuine impulse but he knew whichever it was, she was using the time to scan her surroundings as they had been taught and was likely assessing the others as they arrived, some with curious looks at the seemingly eccentric Tiefling, the others already familiar with the puzzle that was Sable Platin.

"A Nobody? for someone in our trade sister that is quite a compliment. Are you feeling alright? i thought a little hellspawn like you would burst into flames if they said something nice?" A look of clearly fake and mocking concern crossed Alnor's face as he pressed a hand to Sables forehead when she stopped twirling, and finally froze in place, the first time any of them had seen her still and quiet since her comical running entrance earlier.

"I would assume the Lady Silveria will take us there through the chamber, You on the other hand we will be selling to a Gnome Trader who will take you there in a cage"

"Exciting times Sister, we get to take part in the ceremony like the rest of the family""Forgive my addled little sister, Cousin Silveria. As you know those horns, like her skull are quite hollow"

No matter how many times Narcelia had entered the Moon Grove, each opportunity was equally, if not more exciting than the last. It was a special place that thrummed with a quiet energy unlike anywhere else in the Underdark, and it bubbled forth from within until the urge to dance was nearly irresistible. However, now was not the time to dance, and Drow Sign is notably less effective when the hands and body are preoccupied with expressing anything other than words. With practiced effort, Narcelia stilled her mind and proceeded onward toward the High Priestess, allowing her already bare toes to trace gracefully through the blades of grass, savoring each as they passed. Once within a respectable distance, Narcelia reverently signed her greeting and recognition of Silveria before kneeling down to sit comfortably among the foliage.

As the others prepared themselves for the meeting and playfully tussled, Narcelia watched and hummed quietly to herself, taking note of each in turn. Victor was a less familiar, but not unwelcome face. Magister Vern wasn't known for being a beacon of enthusiasm, so Narcilia tended to avoid him and paid his proteges little mind. Alnor, another of mother's children, adopted or otherwise, may not have been formally recognized, but the relationship between siblings never needed to be spoken aloud. A child always knows when there is another challenger for their mother's attention. Sable didn't have the privilege of being born Drow, but at least she had found a home within the relative safety of House Platin, even if it meant enduring the tutelage of the undying grouch. The remaining of the summoned group followed different paths that crossed much less frequently. Perhaps today that would change...

Knowing that a few of their number lacked the keen vision of the Drow, and fewer still possessed the blessed sight granted to her by Eilistraee, Narcelia waved for the others to stand closer and eagerly signed, "Come. See it as I do!""Doer, kyorl 'zil Usstan xun!". Grasping the amulet around her neck, her eyes rippled with an inky black. For those who accepted Eyes of Night: Everyone within 10ft has 300ft Darkvision for 1 hour.the gift, the edges of their vision quickly grew from shadow to encompass the full wonder of the Moon Grove. Releasing the amulet, her gaze flitted gleefully between the faces of those among them before returning to Silveria who had begun to speak. Narcelia nodded and beamed with purpose as the First Daughter conveyed the will of the Matron Mother and the Dark Maiden.

"Forever my addled little sister, Cousin Silveria. As you know those horns, like her skull are quite hollow"

As the sense of urgency shifted, Narcelia allowed herself to be drawn in by the playfulness of her siblings. She balled a slender fist and ineffectually punched Alnor in the calf to get his attention. Shaking her hand in feigned soreness, "Be nice, Alnor! There are few who have the privilege to be as dense as you.""Tlu yugho, Alnor! Gaer ph'stath vel'uss inbal l'privilege ulu tlu natha dense 'zil dos."

"Now, help me up too. Sable doesn't get to have all the fun.""Nin, xxizz uns'aa phor ichl. Syunna anika'inbau ulu inbal jal l'jivvin.", She offered her hands expectantly.

Narcelia had questions of her own, but often found it was easier to listen while others planned. Perhaps if she were a spider, she would have enough hands to speak and stand at the same time.

Talryn Platin
right-aligned image
Listening and watching, Talryn took everything in while he waited. It could not be said that he wore a faint smile on his face, reveling in the sibling camaraderie he had once enjoyed in the house, if only because he did not currently have a face. A fun bit of magic, useful too, but it had run its course as he gauged the other members of the house being called to the meeting.

At the edge of the clearing spiders began emerging from the grass, thousands upon thousands almost too small to be seen, all swarming over one another to build an ever-rising tower of webbing and arachnid. In short order the tower split into the approximation of a man, and then as the magic faded further the spiders disappeared from view entirely leaving Talryn standing upon the grass. Exhaling a puff of smoke from an impossibly long-held breath, he reached up to his lips and pulled a piece of gauze from the tip of his tongue before putting it away in one of the pouches on his belt. His other hand already held his shoes and he moved silently to deposit them with the others.

With his hands empty, he quickly signed a greeting to the Priestess, whom no doubt had known of his presence, then to Narcella, and finally his other gathered family members, drow and others. Honored priestess, and family.”Malla yatharil, lu'fuma.” He had not been back among the family long, and did not wish to see the little goodwill he had earned undone by another lengthy departure, but a chance to bloody House Higure and salt the wounds brought him a profound sense of joy that he could not hide. Breaking into a wide smile, he bowed towards Silveria, We will not fail.”Udos orn naut hojh.”

"What a dreadfully fantastic team we have. We've got a Drow that shines like the night sky, the embodiment of Lolths favour, a devil, my own Silent Sister of Eilistraee, a human, and a nobody."

Hearing this, he turned to the others laying about on the grass. The sound of his heavy armor was slightly dampened by his leather coat, but not enough to muffle it. He'd made sure though that the new heater shield he'd commissioned had a cut-out around his hand. This would normally be ill-advised, but he wanted to be able to sign without unstrapping his shield. "Sadly, I'm not as human as I used to be. Please forgive me for not being better acquainted. Vern is a stern teacher. I'm not so serious as he is, even if I'm not one to tussle like a puppy."Sadlos, F'sarn naut 'zil rivvil 'zil Usstan aturr ulu tlu. Qualla evagna uns'aa whol naut tluin alur Alsa'xarox. Victor raised an eyebrow and the corner of his mouth twitched in a sort of smile. "Also I am not so dire as I look. This is just my face.Mziln Usstan tlun naut ji luctif 'zil Usstan lor. Nindol zhah fridj ussta jindurn." He considered writing it on a card to carry with him, "This is just my face." He doubted the magister would be amused, though.

SableWhen the spiders began to creep out from the grass around her, Sable could feel them crawling and skittering all over her bare feet. It wasn't a sensation she necessarily disliked, in fact it even quite tickled, but it did make her skin crawl and she wanted nothing more than to kick and shake them off. As a young child she'd encountered nests of spiders that would crawl in a similar manner. She had to teach herself to channel her urge to shake and jitter lest she kill the spiders and hear their garbled spider souls shrieking as they departed.

Despite these spiders' seemingly magical origin she still demonstrated her method of constraint. Sables hands clasped either side of her face, and her fingers would rapidly tatter across her forehead in a seemingly random series. Her expression a twisted grimace that couldn't denote either joy nor disgust. And her body began to sway side to side. She wouldn't dare consider what killing them might do to Talryn, even if it would be harmless. When the spiders coalesced into the form of a Drow, Sable shuttered.

"Sadly, I'm not as human as I used to be. Please forgive me for not being better acquainted. Vern is a stern teacher. I'm not so serious as he is, even if I'm not one to tussle like a puppy. Also I am not so dire as I look. This is just my face."

Sable almost didn't catch Victors signs, she hadn't been aware to watch for it, but she was glad she did. Since her studies with Vern usually meant she was tuning out voices, she hadn't really gotten to know anyone but Vern himself. And with what she knew of Vern, she was relieved to see Victor seemed more personable than the Magister. Thinking of The Lich gave her a thought.

"Hmm, Uncle Vern, so that means Cousin Victor!" She clapped her hands together, feeling excited with the team at hand.

"A Nobody? for someone in our trade sister that is quite a compliment. Are you feeling alright? i thought a little hellspawn like you would burst into flames if they said something nice?"

She twirled to face her Brother, and was readying a line of banter to retaliate when her gaze was drawn by Narcelia waving for attention. She began signing, something Sable has always been sure to keep an eye on. She wouldn't let her sisters words go unheard just because they weren't spoken. And she was more than happy to receive the clerics gift of sight. Sure she could already see in the dark with her Tiefling eyes, but the gift enhanced that even further.

She was in awe at the sight before her, being able to see this much of the moon grove was something she had never even considered was possible. While it took away some of the mystery and fun the darkness held, the cavernous space also filled Sable with a humbleness about her place in the world.

"Forever my addled little sister, Cousin Silveria. As you know those horns, like her skull are quite hollow"

"Be nice, Alnor! There are few who have the privilege to be as dense as you."

"Sadly, I have to give this one to Brother." Sable brought her hand up and knocked against the side of her head, Minor Illusionan unmistakably hollow knocking sound could be heard with each tap against her skull. The sound even had a slight echo. She then stuck out the same hand to aid her Brother in lifting her Sister off the ground.

The Ritual
Silveria waits patiently, as the eldest daughter of the matron mother she has seen and helped raise a number of children. Even if you personally weren't there to be cared for by her, she has a similar air of motherhood as does the Matron Mother herself. After her wait and seeing that everyone has moved close, she speaks to the few questions and perhaps a few unasked, "You will participate in the ritual. We will briefly be on a hill overlooking Silversheen and you will depart for the town of your relatives. If you could say hello to my sister, the Matron Mother there, I will be greatly appreciative. We rarely get a chance to meet with one another."

Silveria's sister is little known to most of you, though those with some History DC 10historical knowledge, may recall that Silveria's sister, the first daughter of Emerald, Chalchiuitl was part of the group that aided the avatar of Eilistraee and created the colony of Silversheen. She originally had the position of High Priestess before Silveria did.

Silveria continues, "Silversheen is near a place called Dagger Falls. By using this method to get to the surface you will be in position a few days before the raiding party attacks the town of Dagger Falls. I know little of the area so you may wish to gather information in Silversheen about just what they deal with on a daily basis and, of course, say hello to whichever relatives of your own are there."

She stands center of the room and disrobes then she takes Narcelia's hand and begins to dance. Narcelia feels the power of her goddess infuse her, an ancient deep sadness for her people, then joy, delight, passion. The eminence of the Lady of Dance she knows so well and the light in the cavern grows as the illusion above shows the moon slowly rising into the starlit sky. Music begins to play with Silveria leading the dance with Narcelia then, as the music rises, she takes Sable's hand guiding her gently in simple dance moves and Sable can feel the power the immense pure joy as well. The three women dance without even knowing the steps.

The silvery light of the moon begins to brighten the room more and Silveria moves to Victor, Talryn, and Alnor. Each of the men is pulled into the dance in turn. Each is filled with the silverly light of the moon and the awesome power of a deity. Joy, delight, passion fill nut just their hearts but their very souls and as it does the light above moves from an illusion to reality. The still air of the cavern changes to a warm breeze with lilac and heather infusing it, the sky above opens into the immensity of the true stars, and the silver moon above shines down on everyone.

The music slows and Silveria guides each of you to sit, sweat coats your skin and you realize you've been lost in the dance for hours. You muscles are sore and your body tired. Silveria moves to the center of the field and begins her dance again, this time alone and yet also with a sable figure you can only barely see. The two fade away and you are left standing on a small hill, to the west you can see a small, well fortified mountain town.

DM Notes:
Blessing of the goddess: For the next 24 hours you may roll an extra d4 for saves and attack rolls. Once in the next 24 hours you may choose to end the blessing early to gain 3d4 for a single attack or saving throw, you may choose to do so after the roll.

Alnor (Aspirant Tier 1 - Worth 9)
right-aligned image

Alnor didn't see the spiders appearing at first, his attention distracted by the antics of Sable and the much more dignified arrival of a second sister, but as Sable froze in place, this time the expression changing to one of a restrained grimace, even he couldn't fail to notice the reason why. Alnor didn't share his little sisters reservations about spiders, his own familiar was one after all, but even he would be hard pressed to restrain himself with so many crawling over him. He had heard of such a magical ability but had never witnessed it in person, he would have been more fascinated if it wasn't having such an adverse reaction on Sable.

Knowing pulling her away from the crawling mass of arachnids would just cause more problems, he did what he could to soothe his sisters mind, reaching out and tapping the small button close to her collar, a spark of magic flashing from his fingertip the give it a soft glow, the button now emitting a Magical Tinkeringsoothing soft aroma, Sables favourite calming scent as she rocked side to side and tapped her fingers to her skull in a seemingly random pattern.

As soon as the spiders coalesced into Talryn and disappeared, the change in his sisters mental state was immediate, once more a bundle of energy and excitement as she spoke to Victor. Alnor's own attention was brought back to Narcelia again as her blessing took hold, the Moon Grove flaring into light shades as the shadows retreated, it was a strangely disconcerting feeling for the man, his own vision in darkness was severally limited but he had learned to compensate with the aid of Weaver and Umbra, but he had learned to move with an offset vision, seeing the world around him in brightness from this angle, matching his own visual field just felt off to him but he gave his sister a smile of thanks anyway as he saw her fingers dancing in sign, his smile turning into a grin and a laugh as she fired her own insult at him in defence of their Tiefling sister.

He was overjoyed to see this side of her reemerge, something that didn't happen as often since the accident which stole her voice, perhaps that was the true magic of the Moon Grove, it certainly had a beneficial effect on his sisters. His laugh stopped as her tiny fist hit his calf, barely a tap but he hopped on one foot anyway, the hurt in his voice clearly an act, and a bad one at that "OW! I would help you up sister but i am struck quite lame and injured by your assault"

But he could not keep up the act, thankfully for everyone, as Sable joined in their antics with an echoing tap of her clearly empty skull before she offered Narcelia a hand as well, His fingers danced out briefly, deftly slipping something out of one of Sables pockets as he also offered a hand down to Narcelia and between the two of them pulled her to her feet, much more respectfully and gently than Alnor had done for Sable, his fingers gave her hand a gentle squeeze before letting go, leaving a small candied treat in her hand, one of Apyhon's favourites snagged from Sables pocket.

"I am glad you will be joining us in this task Sister, it has been a long time since the three of us had some fun outside the city""Usstan tlun gladare dos orn tlu valmen udossa wun nindol fuu'ux Dalninil, ol uriu tlus natha verve draeval yol l'llar d'udossa inbalus fol jivvin do'suul l'che'el"

Seeing the High Priestess waiting patiently, a knowing smile on her face, Alnor blushed a little as he realised he had overstepped his place and took a step back, once more resuming the position of a servant at attention.

"Forgive me High Priestess, Please continue""Evagna uns'aa obok yathrin, qualla elendar" He had to be careful, this was the first chance he had to be a part of the Ritual, as a male of the house and someone in such low standing it was a rare opportunity he did not want to miss out on. There was a time to be Alnor the fool, and a time to be the Hidden Blade, now was the latter and he paid close attention to Silveria's words as she explained what was going to happen and asked of the boon for her sister.

Alnor was very familiar with the Matron Mother Chalchiuitl, they had never met but his lessons both under Emerald and at the Sorcere had included vast historical knowledge of the houses and family trees. As an Adopted Son of House Platin, Alnor had taken an almost obsessive fascination with his new family tree and absorbed as much as he could about his family, especially the other children of Emerald Platin. He was excited to meet the Matron Mother.

His attention was brought back into the present when the ritual started, though he averted his eyes as she disrobed and began her dance, his focus on the illusion on the ceiling of the cavern. He was no prude and no stranger to naked women but Silveria was not only the High Priestess but also his cousin, he felt it would be disrespectful to look. He had hoped to have been able to spot the shift from illusion sky to real but before that could happen he too was drawn into the dance, feeling Eilistraee's joy in his heart as he moved to the ethereal music, his movements sure and graceful, although he did not know the moves of the dance, he was a talented dancer already and he found his body instinctively adapting and following the movements without conscious thought.

He lost track of how long he danced, but as Silveria guides him to sit and the music left, leaving an aching in his soul as its silence that matched the one in his body as it finally rested, he could tell it had been a long dance, he would be sore the next day for sure. Catching his breath, Alnor lay back on the cool grass and looked up at the stars and enjoyed tne cool night air on his skin. It took him a moment to register that the wind was real and the stars were no longer an illusion.

Alnor reached to his side and felt for the courier's bag he had been carrying, feeling reassured that it was still there as he chuckled

"That was an unexpectedly quick start. I hope everyone brought their supplies with them to the meeting"

SableWhen Sable helped her Sister to her feet with her Brothers assistance, she could feel his deft hands swiftly maneuvering to swipe a piece from Aphyon's special treats stash. His abilities were on display, as she could just barely feel the shift in fabric on her skin, but the giveaway was the change in weight, however minute. Smelling the treat out in the open in Narcelias hand, the small ashen mouse popped his head out of a pocket close to Sable's collar, sniffing the air expectantly.

Sable looked at her cousin's scar with a sort of sadness. Her training was more tame, and her skills were honed more situationally. She managed to avoid any such lifelong injuries by simply not being pushed as hard. Not wishing to interrupt Silveria with her response she flashed her thoughts to Victor in the same manner with which he spoke.

"Explosions are not the toy we play with in the shadows. I hope you've grown more careful cousin.Vir'ednithen ph'naut l'ste'kol udos jivvin xuil wun l'veldrin. Usstan kestal dos'in golorhin mzild kyone kaoveh."

When the dance first started Sables mind was elsewhere, trying to figure out if she knew who Chalchiuitl was. Ultimately the feeling that she knew the name from somewhere must have been from a spirit saything the name once. She felt a deep shame at not knowing such a prominent member of her family.

She didn't have very long to dwell on that shame before she was whisked away into a ceremonial dance. One that she had never partaken in, not even witnessed from a distance, and yet she found herself following the motions instinctually. Her body was overcome with a sense of joy that she couldn't fully comprehend, but the voices were silenced and she could focus entirely on the moment. As they moved across the grass of the grove, the men were pulled into the dance as well.

When the dance ended after what seemed like only minutes, Sable's body told her it had been much longer. She proceeded to twirl around, unwilling to let the ache she would feel kick in. She spun in circles while passing around each of the team members. Orbiting less like a planet around the sun, and more like a fly around decay. Using their collective burst of exhaustion, and the distraction of the true night sky she would repay her Brother's favour. When she was done spinning she to dropped onto the ground her small muscles driven to their momentary limit. While she didn't enjoy the feeling of her wet body pressed against her clothing, she did enjoy the sight of the twinkling stars above her. She found herself in awe of the sky's beauty.

"That was an unexpectedly quick start. I hope everyone brought their supplies with them to the meeting"

Sable sat up so quickly she'd be likely to startle anyone with a jumpy disposition. She quickly removed the backpack she carried with her, unstrapping the rope and removing her the accompanying hook, and her boots from within. She then hurled her backpack and its remaining contents at her Brother. "You know I'm always ready to live on the streets at a moments notice. You know I'm always ready to live on the streets at a moment's notice." She spoke as she stood to her feet. "Thank you for taking my weight dear Brother. Now, be a good mule and carry my things, you know how my back gets." She stated while fastening the rope to her hook, and then the whole bundle to her hip opposite her Rapier. She then put her boots back on her feet, saddened to lose the touch of the grass upon her skin, but happy to have protection from gravel and sharp objects.
