Edit: I'm building a human Oath Against Corruption paladin in case I get into the other game, to use in place of my kitsuneticist, to avoid any confusion I may have.

I did download the players guide, thanks for the suggestion. It does warn specifically about the character class that I've chosen, that it is thematically appropriate but may have extra difficulty because psionic casting is completely shut down by fear and emotion effects. So I adjusted one of the characters traits in favor of better saving throws.

One could cheesily dodge the whole issue by being an Android Occultist?

Well, androids are kinda pushing it, ya know? There are more suggestions in the guide, and I'm sure there are selections that are more to your liking.

A Bloody NightmareDrip. Drip. Drip.

The sweaty, leather-wrapped grip trembled in Vic's hands as a deep, soundless gasp swept in from the assembly. The coldly gleaming edge wept the faintest vermillion where it quivered in the air. Motion around him had ceased at that moment, as the onlookers prepared to rush forward. Too late, all too late. The brilliant emerald gaze locked on his odd, carmine stare flickered once, fitfully, then faded with all the pathos of a dying star. They'd danced their last dance together.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

The fall of Victor Harker, once the brightest star of his year, had been a long and tortured thing. He'd been recruited at a young age from peasant stock in far-off Ustalav. So young, in fact, he barely remembered anything of life before the Academy and Qadira. That didn't prevent his humble past from haunting him as he grew, but at least initially the taunting and jeers from his peers only drove him to excel.

Puberty was no kinder to him than his classmates, leaving him with a long, sallow face prone to scowls and an over-long, gangly body filled with disproportionate grace. If there was beauty in his movements, however, there was none to be found elsewhere. The coarse, unevenly mixed black and brown hair, cropped short, more resembled a pelt than a coif. His eyes sat uneven, one noticeably larger than the other, giving his crooked visage an arch expression. Not that many would willingly meet his disturbing, red-tinged stare.

In response to the things he could not control, Victor strove for mastery of the things he could. He wore his uniform with unmatched precision, the deep black and violet lines simple but functional as they followed the lean planes of his frame. Though he danced without passion, it held all the chill beauty of winter. In his studies he was unmatched, and though his raw power would never equal that of his peers, his facility with the Source far outstripped their own. When it came to the clashing of steel and razored edges, Vic stood a paragon.

As better people throughout history have discovered, the pinnacle is a lonely place, and much prone to assault from the envious.

When the dreams began, Victor was friendless. His need for control wrapped him in an aloofness his unhealthy mein discouraged others from penetrating. Every night, his strained mind bathed in streams of vitae. Every day, the unwelcome intrusions left him further and further disquieted. He had no one to turn to, least of all the Dawnflower, for his faith had ever been but empty words on hard, thin lips. His studies began to overwhelm him. His steps began to falter. His control slipped.

His sleekly curved blade, polished to a mirror sheen, tasted flesh.

The worst thing wasn't watching the life of his fellow student slip away as their eyes locked. While always a tragedy, accidents did happen during the dance. They'd all gather later to mourn a bud clipped before blooming, but letters would be sent and tears shed and then life would move on. No. The worst part was how, in inadvertently slaking his blade's thirst, he'd awaked his own.

Having a weakness can be part of the fun! What is Superman without his kryptonite? Besides, it seems to me your character might not be entirely useless without access to his magic with that big metal beat stick he'll be carrying around lol

True enough. Panoply of the Warrior deemphasized spellcasting a bit, and spells are typically more pre conflict than mid.

Kitsuneticist unless I get in the other game as my kineticist (I probably won't get into the other one ^//^ And am kinda hoping I don't, 'cause I really wanna play the kitsuneticist)

Edit: I think I'll play the kitsuneticist even if I get into the other game. I should be able to differentiate the characters well enough (except for the kitsune ancestry they share...and the class)

Much later edit: I'll be excited to play the kitsuneticist regardless (if I get in). I wouldn't have been as excited to play the paladin.

Description: Kara clearly shows her mixed human and orc heritage, her tan skin tinged with just a hint of green and a small fair of tusks emerging from her lower jaw.. Her clothing is simple and often dirty, mostly furs and hides. Across her back and down her arms is an elaborate tattoo telling the history of the Bloodwolf clan.

Personality

Kara’s loyalty is to her clan above all else. She distrusts strangers as a rule, and is not shy about expressing her disdain for anyone who has not yet proven themselves, as her father proved himself to her clan long ago. Her respect, and her kindness, must be earned. She doesn’t think much of so-called “civilized” people, viewing them as soft and weak from their easy lives. Growing up surviving on the streets has taught her to be practical. Concepts like honor and glory don’t mean much when every day is a struggle to survive. You do what you must to survive, and let the consequences be what they may. On the occasion that she finds herself among people she genuinely trusts, she lets her guard down a bit and shows a jovial side. If you ever see Kara laugh (outside of a short derisive snort), you can know she considers you a friend. Add in a good ale and she may even start singing.

Background


When the orcs of the Bloodwolf clan were driven from their ancestral home in the Hold of Belzken, they settled in Ustalav. Rather than assimilate into local society, they chose to hold to their traditions, scratching out a living on the streets and generally staying away from the “civilized” inhabitants of the country. As the years passed, they became a known part of the Ustalav underworld, respected and feared by many of the local gangs and crime syndicates. In order to keep their numbers thriving, the clan began accepting new members of many races, adopting many of the dregs of Ustalav society that were willing to conform to their rules and traditions.

Kara was born into the clan; daughter of an orc woman and a human man who had joined the clan when he was young, looking for a place where he could belong. Her mother was a shaman, who channeled the spirits to bring protection and blessing to the Bloodwolves. Although the clan had long lived in the city streets rather than the open wilderness, she made certain her daughter understood where they came from. In addition to learning to fight, Kara learned how to survive and track in any environment, urban or wild. Having a shaman for a mother had other benefits; her whole life, Kara has been exposed to magic, and although her own abilities are limited, she can sense the spirits around her and occasionally hear their silent whispers in her mind. Her mother slo told her stories of darker spirits, evil creatures beyond imagining that haunted nightmares
