I forgot about the conclave. Not sure if you read apps early or at the end, but I added a blurb to address that.

Jasra the Crimson
right-aligned image

Name: Jasra the Crimson
Race: Human
Alignment: Neutral (Chaotic Good tendencies)
Class: Wizard
Appearance: An attractive human woman of average height with red hair and large hazel eyes (though she often uses Prestigitation to turn them a more dramatic colour). She mostly wears a theatrical costume and mask incorporating a signature shade of red that is both eye-catching and marks her out to those in the know as a Red Robe.
Personality Traits: 1) Whenever I come to a new place, I collect local rumors and spread gossip. 2) I’m a hopeless romantic, always searching for that “special someone.”
Bond: Someone stole my precious instrument, and someday I’ll get it back.
Ideal: Creativity. The world is in need of new ideas and bold action. (Chaotic)
Flaw: A scandal prevents me from ever going home again. That kind of trouble seems to follow me around.
Background: Entertainer

Personality: Jasra is witty, charming and talkative, tending to towards humor in conversations though she does grow noticeably more serious when the topic of magic pops up, her curiosity becoming more intense. She gambles (and cheats) and drinks, becoming flirtatious after a few ales. She can come across scatty, even airheaded but she is in fact highly intelligent and extremely proud about her skills both as a mage and as an entertainer (she is rather irritated that everyone seems to want her to perform 'fire magic' simply because she wears red - she can do it but she prefers illusions.)
Backstory: Formerly part of a celebrated double act of street magicians in Palanthas Jasra was forced to leave the famed city under mysterious circumstances, with great haste and without her partner - something with which she refuses to discuss with anyone save Ispin Greenshield whom she blabbed many secrets to after one night of getting very, very drunk.

Jasra has since operated solo as a magician-entertainer in various villages and small towns, building her skills and fame and earning steel.
RP Sample:

The market square was often the gathering spot for entertainers looking to make a coin or two whether by music, storytelling, juggling or acrobatics. Today was no different even if the attractive red haired young woman in the outlandish red mask promised some a little more exotic than the norm.

"Ladies and gentlemen I am Jasra the Crimson, wizardess extraordinaire! I have entertained kings and princes across Ansalon and now for a humble contribution (yes good sir money in the basket there thank you) I shall entertain you."

Jasra bowed low, then straightened up with a grin as she rolled up her sleeves exposing bare arm. "As you can see I have nothing up my sleeves..." she made a Minor Illusion!gesture with her fingers and murmured a spell before seemingly slipping a silk handkerchief that materialised in one hand into her left ear and pulling it out her right ear. "... and nothing between my ears either. Yes ladies and gentlemen I assure you this morning you will experience the finest magics and most spellbinding illusions you can conceive of!"

As the morning wore on a crowd gathered Jasra used her magic to make animals appear and disappear, conjure the leering visage of an ogre with a club that loomed over the townsfolk, summoned her own shadow for a duel with prop daggers and for a crowning seemed to turn herself into a leopard.

She was proud of her work but was rather annoyed to discover after her act when she inspected her basket that all that work yielded a total of three steel pieces.

"Well," she said to herself as dropped the coins into her worryingly light purse, "at least they didn't try burning me as a witch in this town... that's a step up."

Questions1) What is it you would like to get out of the game? What kind of things appeal to you in a PbP game?

Fun and rping opportunities with other players firstly. Also a mix of interesting NPCS, fun locations and the sense that PCs are getting somewhere in the world.

2) What sort of things do you not want to see in a PbP game?

Extremely crunchy combat and deep rules focus that stalls the game.

3) What is it that made you want to apply to this game?

A combination of my love of Dragonlance and the good experience I've had previously with the DM!

4) Do you prefer PbP games that are predominantly focussed on combat, or predominantly focussed on role-play? Or a mixture of the two?

A mixture of the two. I personally prefer at least some interaction with the local NPCs rather than just pure dungeon or wilderness crawling.

Character Details
right-aligned image

Name: Elara Windrider
Race: Half-elf
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Class: Bard
Background: Entertainer
Personality: Romantic, Moody
Ideal: Creativity. The world is in need of new ideas and bold action. (Chaotic)
Bond: I idolize Ispin and measure my deeds against that his own.
Flaw: I'm a sucker for a pretty face
Personality: Elara is often naive in the ways of the world due to her upbringing. But she has a strong determination to do good. Her love of music stems to her own mother's passions and wish to make others smile like she did. Her proximity to nature makes her more attuned to her free-spirited nature, though to her detriment as it also caused her to get quite strong mood swings.

Backstory: Elara Windrider was born in the small village, cradled between the towering Druidic forests and the shimmering shores of a great lake. Her mother, a renowned elven bard known for her enchanting melodies, frequently drew travelers from far and wide to their humble home. It was in these vibrant evenings filled with laughter and song that Elara first discovered her own affinity for music, an ability that sparked joy within her heart as effortlessly as it lit up those who listened. However, tragedy struck when dark forces descended upon her home. Rumors spread quickly about a tainted beast haunting the forest's edge. An omen whispered by lingering shadows.

Not long after, Elara’s world shifted dramatically as several villagers grew sick by a plague and perished. She was save by a band of adventurers led by Ispin Greenshield. Devastated after learning that her village was wiped out from the face of the map, she joined Ispin's company as his apprentice. She was determined to act against this encroaching malevolence of this omen, armed only with her lute and burgeoning magic lessons taught under the guidance of an ancient druidess from her village, she split off from Greenshield's company and became a wanderer. Which slowly transformed Elara from an innocent village girl into a resilient young adventurer sworn to uncover the truth behind what plagued her village.

RP Sample: Elara reads the parchment over and over again. Her hands were trembling. This was her tenth reading and she still couldn't believe it. Her eyes were watering already the moment she was done, "Stop, don't humiliate yourself in a dirty dive bar. Not... When... Not when..." she sobbed, balling again for the third time. A lot of the patrons just ignored her. Elara tries composing herself. Her grip tightens and she plays a song,"Ispin.... I thank you for what you've done for me." she mutters as she plays an elven song, one her mother taught her long ago.

The lyrics were that of a siren's call. Simply mesmerizing. It was probably worth it for the patrons to not throw her out, her songs were a joy to hear. Even if it was sprinkled with melancholy and sorrow. Once done, she gives a bow to her patrons and turned to the letter. A look of resolution was on her face,"I never thought our previous meeting would be our last but... I would like to perform for you, one last time, Sir Greenshield."

Question1) What is it you would like to get out of the game? What kind of things appeal to you in a PbP game?

I played a little bit of Dragonlance before and I would like to see how the 5e incarnation of the game is going to be like. I appeal to more the slow-pace of the pbp and the quality of writing put into some of the posts.

2) What sort of things do you not want to see in a PbP game?

Way too long dungeoncrawls with way too much combat and less RP opportunities

3) What is it that made you want to apply to this game?

Nostalgia and I wanted to get back on the swing of things in another pbp game

4) Do you prefer PbP games that are predominantly focussed on combat, or predominantly focussed on role-play? Or a mixture of the two?
I'm fine with a mixture of combat and RP.

@Alemar players are free to choose what class combination they see fit and I’ll make it work, so multiclassing is fine. There is no official ruling on things like Eldritch Knight etc so you’re going to have to make do with some old fashioned GM whimsy I’m afraid . In this case I wouldn’t expect a Fighter subclass to rock up at the Tower of High Sorcery to take the test or the wizards to take a particular interest in them doing so. However if you were to multi class into a class where spellcasting is a primary component of that class then that is a different story.

Either way, all I can say at this point is that a characters relation with the Mages of High Sorcery is catered for and dealt with in the game itself so at this point don’t worry too much about it when determining an initial character concept as we can deal with the finer detail in game once selections are made.

Seekr34 not sure what the ask is here, you can create whatever ideals/bonds/flaws you like or choose from the approved sources?

Jrod similarly to clerics, the class is permissible but there will be a prelude scene at the start of the game before the main adventure begins that will retell the story of how you came across your spell abilities.

Hmm, just reading the book I realised the Mage of High Sorcery is it's own Background so I can't really have Jasra as an Entertainer too. I might have to go back to the drawing board.

They designed it so you don’t need to take the background, RossN, as long as you can take the ‘Initiate of High Sorcery’ feat (which the background gives you for free).

Oh man. I haven't read the Dragonlance Chronicles in a minute. Whether selected or not, this at least inspired me to get Autumn Twilight out of the library again.

I'm going to work on a kender Life cleric of Mishakal. Because there has been no spells, they were focused on more rudimentary medicine and herbalism up to this point.

Character Concept
right-aligned image

Name: Brother Bergen
Race: Kender
Class: Cleric 1 (Life)

Personality Traits: I frequently pick up small objects to fiddle with, and sometimes I forget to put them back. I am immensely curious of the world, and sometimes that curiosity gets me into trouble.
Bond: Charity. I always try to help those in need, no matter what the personal cost. (Good)
Ideal: No one else should have to endure the hardships I've been through.
Flaw: Sometimes my mouth moves faster than my mind when I think of something funny.

Background: Urchin

Appearance:
Bergen is a diminutive man with pointed ears and child-like features. Almost half the size of the average man, Bergen has curly brown hair that he wears in a large ponytail and he has large brown eyes that burn with curiosity. He has thin youthful features that make him appear much younger than he likely is, a small reddish scar on his narrow chin the only blemish you can see. He wears a long loose sky blue robe with gold embroidery over a suit of leather armor, with a thick leather belt around his waist. Attached to his belt is two large pouches and a dagger, and one of the pouches looks like it might be moving. He holds a quarterstaff in his left hand as a walking stick, and around his neck hangs a silver amulet of a blue infinity symbol. He seems full of nervous energy and incapable of sitting still, even when motionless.

Personality:
Bergen is a kind, friendly, compassionate young kender with a love of life and those he calls friend. He has a talent for healing with both his hands and his humor, and he tries to make everyone he meets feel welcome and special. He especially has a soft spot for those without a home or a family, as he has been there before, and he often helps them with a coin and a smile to help ease their troubles. Despite his good nature, Bergen has problems with authority and those who take themselves too seriously, and can sometimes find himself getting into trouble even if he didn't mean to. Of course, some of this is just his nature - as a kender, he loves picking up and fiddling with objects to help relax, and sometimes he gets distracted and those objects end up coming with him if he's not careful. Some of it is also him - he is quick to speak and make light of situations that, sometimes, should not be made light of. He is immensely curious about the world and has a child-like fascination about everything, making him easily entertained and a willing listener to anyone who has something to say.

Backstory:
It's unusual for a kender to end up abandoned at the orphanage in Solanthus, but Bergen somehow ended up there. He has known since he was young that a traveling caravan stumbled across him somehow, and they delivered him to the orphanage as they did not know what else to do with the kender baby. It was a tough upbringing for the young Bergen (named as such for being a burden placed on others) - he was much smaller than the other youths, flighty, talkative, and had a tendency to take things that wasn't his unintentionally. He was bullied constantly but, being soft spoken and kind hearted, Bergen just accepted it the best he could and did his best not to treat others poorly. As he got older, Bergen began spending less and less nights at the orphanage and more out running the streets of Solanthus. He had a secret spot where he could hide and sleep and keep food that wasn't taken from him by someone older and stronger. He would steal to survive, but he always felt guilty about it and never took more than he needed. He found passive ways to stand up to bullies - if a merchant was particulary cruel to the other children on the street, Bergen would steal the coin from his box and distribute it amongst them. Sometimes he donated it to his own orphanage, especially when another child was sick and needed medical care. This was his first experience with the clergy of Mishakal - they would regularly visit the orphanage binding small wounds, making them drink tonics, and looking out for their welfare. They were one of the few people who seemed to care.

By chance, Bergen found himself meeting with Sister Amnell, one of the healer priests of the Temple of Mishakal. Bergen stole a pie and gave it to a pair of hungry children after the baker had beaten them in his store, but the baker cornered Bergen and was about to administer a beating to him as well. It was then when Sister Amnell stepped in and paid for the pie, then took Bergen for a walk. She recognized his compassionate spirit and desire to help others, and proselytized to him about Mishakal the Lightbringer. She was one of the first to treat Bergen as important and as an equal. The two began to meet for walks regularly, with Sister Amnell teaching the young Bergen the ways of the faith of Mishakal. Over the course of a year, Bergen was converted to her faith and, with Sister Amnell's blessing, became an acolyte at the Temple of Mishakal. His keen mind and instincts, combined with his compassionate heart, helped Bergen excel as a healer and soon he became a full fledged Brother of Mishakal. Sister Amnell has been his friend and confidant through the whole endeavor, the older woman being a maternal figure for the wayward kender. Not that he completely gave up his old ways - Bergen was known for his unintentional pilfering, roaming the streets late at night, and behavioral problems with overbearing authority. Since he has become a full fledged Brother, Bergen's life has seemed to be moving up. Even more so after a passing traveler passed on the potential identity of his parents - Carbery Potscobble and Eydis Quickfoot. The former being a married council member of Kendermore and the latter a barmaid, thus Bergen being born out of wedlock. Bergen is eager to see if his paths ever cross with his potential parents - he may finally have a family after all these years.

Flip (the “sword” of the gods)
right-aligned image
Flip posing proudly!
Name: Fliparin “Flip” Squiggledraw
Race: Kender
Class: Rogue (future subclass: Arcane Trickster)
Personality Traits:
1. I love questions! In fact, I love them so much I often don’t wait to hear the answer to the first before posing a second.
2. I see the best in people. Even minotaurs. Yes, even minotaurs are people - really big, smelly and angry people with very sharp horns. I am speaking from experience…
Bond: A knight has his sword, a mage his magic and I have my spellbook, which contains my magic and can stop a sword (true story!).
Ideal: If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again. And again. And again… (Persistence)
Flaw: I don’t have a single flaw. Ispin claims I have a whole bunch of them. Believing everything one tells me probably stands out the most. (Naivety)
Background: Folk Hero - or so he claimsFlip is the first kender able to cast wizard spells!
Alignment: Chaotic Good

Appearance: What do you see when you look at me? A typical kender! I have my Pop’s chestnut brown eyes and hair, my Mom’s smile - dimples and all - and Auntie Bubblebrew’s chin. Well, okay, I don’t have a topknot, that’s true. Why? Have you seen many wizard’s apprentices with one? Of course you haven’t! It’s just not something that the members of the Orders of High Sorcery do, you know? Besides, I really do prefer my hair this way. It makes being grabbed by angry minotaurs less likely. Why am I not wearing robes? Have you ever tried running in a robe? If you have, you know why. Besides, I wouldn’t want to hurt any moon’s feelings by wearing only white, red or black. And I love color! I also love my hoopak and my pouches. They are magical you know - I never know what I’ll find inside them! Wanna take a look?

Personality: Personality? Sure, I have one. I think I got it as a child, back in Kendermore. Do you have a personality? If not, I can help you find one. I’m awfully good at finding things! Shall we look for one right now? No? A pity. I think I saw one that might suit you like a glove. Do you see that Neidar dwarf over there, drinking dwarf spirits? The one with the big belly, glaring at us and mumbling beneath his beard? He seems friendly enough. I think he’d have no issue sharing his personality with you. Shall I ask him? I’ll ask him. Excuse me, mister grumpy dwarf, sir, do you have any personality to spare? Hey! Why are you dragging me away? Do you think the dwarf doesn’t have any? Well that’s not a very nice thing to say. No wonder he seems angry with you. I think we might consider running away right now and coming back later. Run! It’s a good thing you have me to keep you safe.

Backstory/RP sample: You want to hear my story? Really? Really really? Wow! Most people just threaten to hit me with whatever it is they are holding every time I open my mouth. Okay, let’s see. I am a kender - obviously! I was born in Kendermore a couple of years after my parents returned from their wanderlust adventures and settled down. Pop gave Mom a ring and it wouldn’t come off, so they decided to get married! They had a beautiful wedding, I am told, with music and dancing and games and strawberry cake and everything, though I wouldn’t actually know because I wasn’t around yet - not for another year. Me and my four younger siblings had a pretty normal childhood, I guess - going to kender school, doing chores around the house, throwing stones at raiding goblins and taunting passing minotaurs, the usual. Until one day I realized that I was special. I could do magic!

It was the Night of the Eye, only it wasn’t, because it was day and there wasn’t a single moon in the sky, but my youngest brother, Drooble, said he had a terrible craving for moon cookies, so we all went to Auntie Bubblebrew’s kitchen - we had run out of flour at home, you see - and baked batches and batches of them. I was very hungry and ate several dozen of them and then my other brother, Jolian, said that I could now probably do magic. And I could, but only after eating half a dozen more moon cookies to make the magic in my blood, or rather, in my stomach, even stronger. I closed my eyes, concentrating really, really hard and when I opened them again, I saw my sister, Berryblue, and my other sister, Rosina, sprawled all over the greasy kitchen floor, one on top of the other. I had magicked the floor with grease just by thinking about it!

When I told the story to Mom and Pop, they advised me to visit a tower of high sorcery to continue my studies and, as it happens, we have one right around the corner in Goodlund! It’s called the tower of Losarcum, only it’s not so much a tower as it is a pile of rubble. Well, several piles of rubble, to be precise. So, I went in search of the tower of Wayreth next, hoping to find it standing - and it does, but it’s awfully fond of games and it won’t stop playing tag and hide and seek with me. After days and days of wandering the forest, I grew bored and decided to visit the tower of Palanthas instead. It’s truly very nice, they say, in a horrible kind of way, with undead wraiths haunting the woods around it and the corpse of a Black Robe impaled on its gate.

While passing through Solace on my way to Solamnia, I overheard a nice old gentleman with wispy white hair, a long wizardly beard and bright blue eyes talking about how the gods had asked him for a sword. Surprised by his words, for he didn’t look anything like a blacksmith, what with his scrawny arms and snowy white robes, I paused to listen and the elderly man bumped into me. No, not by accident. He chose me to become the gods’ sword! I bet he could sense the magic in my belly. I introduced myself and he was awfully glad to meet me, but he was very busy, he said, running the conclave of wizards and administering the tests and all that, so he had to go and walk the paths of magic. I bid him farewell and promised to see him very soon, right in time for my test. He seemed relieved to hear that I was utterly committed to magic and even gave me a farewell present. Wanna see? I have it here, in one of my pouches.

Anyway, I went to Crossing next and I boarded a ship called “The Summer Breeze”, only the captain, a towering man from Ergoth with breath as bad as one of his eyes, had me thrown out, confusing me no doubt for someone else. So, I used my magic again, this time to avoid any misunderstandings. I turned myself invisible and stayed as quiet as a mouse until we reached Solamnia. And here I am! I haven’t visited the tower in Palanthas yet because it’s so very far away and there are so many interesting things to see and do between here and there, but I most certainly will. In fact, I will get going right now! What’s that? A letter? From a Solamnic Knight? I wonder what this is all about. Hm, perhaps I’ll make a detour, after all…

Name:Damaris Bloodstone
Race: Human
Class: Paladin
Personality Traits:If someone is in trouble, I’m always ready to lend a hand
Bond: I protect those who cannot protect themselves
Ideal: Our lot is to lay down our lives in defense of others
Flaw: I hide a truly scandalous secret that could ruin my family forever.
Background: Knight of Solamnia

Appearance: Standing at just short of 6 feet tall, Damaris is well-muscled and has an easy athletic grace about himself. He has red hair that is just to his shoulders, and he is attempting to grow the traditional Solamnic mustache but so far it is not coming in very well. You can see a faint scare that runs from the right side of his face across his eye to his left jaw. You can tell that it occurred sometime ago, but it is still there. He has piercing green eyes with gold flecks in them.

Personality: Damaris has a very easy-going attitude. He is generally well liked by those around him and is quick to make friends. He studies the Oath and the Measure nightly and practices his other skills during the day. He hopes to follow in the footsteps of his sponsor Toren to become a Knight of the Rose

Backstory: Damaris comes from a long line of knights. It is said that he’s family can trace their roots all the way back to the days of Istar. Damaris is not sure about all of that since books have never really been his strongest interest. He’s more interested in exploring the ruins around the family estates. Which are not large but there seem to be a great deal of ruins to investigate. It’s always been something Damaris asks his father about and always gets the same answer. “I’ll tell you when your older”At this point in Damaris’ life he figures that he’ll never be old enough to know the stories, so he goes about and makes them up himself. It is during one of these adventures when his uncle Toren shows up and plans to tell Damaris about a great battle that occurred many years ago. Toren is interrupted by Damars’ father who tells the two that dinner is ready and the time for stories will come later. That time has yet to come, now Damaris is now the Squire to Toren and they are heading off into the unknown.

RP Sample: Damaris comes from a large family in the northern reaches of the Solmnia. He has 5 brothers and 4 sisters of which he is the youngest. Most of his family has gone on to join the Knighthood but not all of them. Most of his sisters have struck out on their own and will sometime come back to relate tales of their adventures. Damaris grew up on these stories of great adventures including some stories of his older siblings. Damaris’ closet friend is Corren. The two of them are closer than bothers and have been training together since before they really knew what they were doing.

The two boys have always enjoyed challenging each other in various ways. Who could run the fastest, swim further into the nearby lake… etc. While exploring the local ruins around the keep. The two boys found a part of the wall that had fallen leading into a dark cavern. Damaris challenged Corren to go fist to see what lay beyond. Not one to turn down a challenge…as any good knight would accept. Corren went first without bothering to bring a torch to light his way. After a few minutes of not hearing anything but the echoing of his own voice calling for Corren, Damaris went in afterwards. Stumbling around in the dark for what seemed like forever, Damaris was finally able to hear a small cry for help further into the cave. Damaris decided to crawl on his belly since he couldn’t see beyond the tip of his nose. Eventually the sounds of Corren became louder. Damaris was able to locate Corren who had fallen down an unseen shaft. Damaris climbed down to help his friend and the two were both able to make their way out of the cave and back into the light. Unfortunately, because of his injuries Corren will never be able to walk again, but he has found that there is a spark of magic in his being.

1) What is it you would like to get out of the game? What kind of things appeal to you in a PbP game?
I would like a game of high adventure with some character development along the way.

2) What sort of things do you not want to see in a PbP game?
I do not need to see or read about vile acts against people or animals. I know that this is Dragonlance and set in a time of war but fade to black is perfectly acceptable to me in these cases.

3) What is it that made you want to apply to this game?
I have been a huge DL fan since the early 90’s when my best friend introduced me to the original trilogy and have been reading them ever since. I am just gland that someone is picking up the mantle and running a DL game

4) Do you prefer PbP games that are predominantly focussed on combat, or predominantly focussed on role-play? Or a mixture of the two? I am looking for a mixture of the two playing styles.
