"Friends, friends!" shouts Crucible, "isn't the point of us being here tonight to understand our histories and what makes us each different rather than rejecting them? How does bickering do us any good at this point? Does it help the and their herds stay free? Does it help the Karrns defend their boarders any better? Does it help the lost Cyrans find a home? Does it help my people find our place? If we divide ourselves further we will only inflict more damage that what has already been done." Her words are earnest, but she also seems nervous, like she's never done this people. Upon reflection if she's young enough of a forged, it's likely she hasn't.

A grin spread across the diminutive fellow's face. This was about to get really fun.
He turned back to the conversation, eying the newcomers. "I don't know about you, but I didn't come here to discuss unity. I don't think HE*" Nal hooked a thumb at Darius, *did either - he was, after all, discussing how he obliterated grazing lands to create a mobile trench line far the sake of keeping the war off the Karrns' doorstep. But I digress. *I* came here to argue the politics of cultural genocide with an understandably innocent and unwitting warmonger who didn't know better, but should. Why are *you* here, unfortunate one?" |

Breaker looks down at the halfling, then at the human, then the departing shifter and finally at Crucible. "I don't think they came here for understanding. The loud one declares as much. I think their purpose is to find more reasons as to why they were right, and why the others are stupid or ignorant."
It turns towards the halfling and says, "I am here to see what others think of war. My...what did you call it...brother of the forge, is here to understand you and give you an opportunity to understand us. I'm guessing you are illustrating quite well my points of you not being willing to understand." Last edited by aivanther; Jan 5th, 2012 at 11:19 PM. |

After a long moment of silence, Breaker says, "You see? They have no response. They are concerned only with their own narrow views. Why do you think the war started? Why do you think we exist? They know conflict, not understanding. You are right, this was a good time for them to gain stuff. But the halfling wants to simply argue, the human defend his fight, and the shifter wants no part of it." Breaker breaks off in what may be a chuckle.
It turns to the shifter and says, "At least you don't seek to further conflict, which puts you somewhat above others in Crucible's scheme of things, I think. Me, I think the war being called the Last War is foolish." It glances over the rest of the group, "Fighting seems to be so much of what you are, that another war is inevitable. As far as I can tell, you only created life to make more war," Breaker says, tapping itself on the chest to indicate what life he was talking about. Turning back to Crucible it finishes, "So, you see. Understanding is well for you, I suppose, just don't expect it from others." |

The halfling snickers. Then snickers more loudly. Then bursts out laughing. "You are a young one, aren't you? Boy, I think, or is it girl? Well, whatever, you're too young to recognize this, but the only means that things improve or change is through conflict. Species change and grow stronger as the weak are picked off by predators. Social structure becomes more stable by tempering it with debate. If you don't argue, everything stagnates, nothing grows, and it all falls apart." He sidles over, briefly patting the warforged's thigh.
"It was sweet of you, though, to think you've got it all figured out after a couple years. You'll learn, I promise. Heck, stick with us, and you'll see how my constant beratement and correction of Darrius' utterly obtuse opinions improves both our lives!" Last edited by sammichweasel; Jan 10th, 2012 at 10:12 AM. |

Breaker looks at the halfling for a moment, as if considering his words. Then it says, "You seem to not understand, so I will forgive you. First, don't touch me. Secondly, I am not a he or a she. Some have taken to identifying themselves as male or female , but don't have those things between the legs, so why pretend?"
Breaker glances at Crucible again, then says, "Further, you actually illustrate my point. I am not arguing some esoteric thing about understanding, merely pointing out that my compatriot here is overly optimistic on trying to see a common understanding. You speak of conflict, and I agree. However, you are to intent upon your point to even hear what others are meaning, so I fail to see why you expect it from others. At least with a sword, or teeth as you mentioned, people must address your point." |

Savrin realises he is being spoken to, and his ears twitch back towards the heated argument at the front of the room. He prowls on back, cautiously, just a few steps; he could see this was a battle he didn't necessarily want to get caught up in. The shifter remains silent, though with every word from the halfling especially, his frown grows darker and darker. Finally, he speaks.
"Everyone is too quick to assume they are right. That is what you're saying, yeah, 'forged? ... That's what caused the damned war in the first place! And many other things. Bloody headstrong power-hungry fools from Thrane and Karrnath. And the rest of 'em, too, though they're not as bloody righteous about it all, usually." He growls, or sighs; you're not quite sure of which. Possibly both. "I'd like to see the arguments stop. There's a lot of people out there who don't have a home, or a family... or any kind of recognition," he glances sideways at the warforged, "and bickering about this bloody nonsense seems to be the biggest waste of time when we could be working towards moppin' up the mess arrogant humans brought to Khorvaire."

"THAT'S WHY I'M HERE. Ye gods, it's like no one pays attention to what I'm saying! Wait. That would explain a lot." He paused for a second, stroking at his lizard's chin in contemplation. "But that's off topic. I'm arguing BECAUSE everyone thinks they're right. Everyone starts entrenched in their own ideas - yes, even you, metalfolk and pretend lycanthrope - unwilling to move past them. You stick your nose in their business long enough, they start to have to come around. It's just the nature of conscious beings. Yeah, you start to do the same, but what's the harm in expanding your own horizons, hm?"

"The harm is losing your roots," Darius interjects, wandering over to the group as the rest of the crowd leaves, "Spend too much time trying to find the horizon or contemplate the newest thing, and you can find yourself without foundation. That may work for some transient types, but most people require something of stability in their lives."

Breaker laughs, and says, "A war speech turns into a philosophical debate. I must say that this does surprise me. Philosophy was never my strong suit, attempting to keep your head attached in war leaves one little to decide how these things go." Turning back towards Crucible, it continues, "I think my point is illustrated rather well here. Though, I suppose the fact they stand here and argue does have some potential merit. I would like to take up your earlier offer to visit your place in the Upper Cogs, though perhaps not tonight."
Looking around, it says, "Perhaps we might vacate this place, it seems we are the last left and I imagine our presence brings irritation to some." |

"Yes, I imagine the maintenance staff will want to start cleaning." Darius says, heading towards the door, "But it's been a marvelous discussion, to be sure."

"That is the very reason why we have built a small haven for our people. By speaking with each other we learn more. You are all welcome any time. I too. Must depart as the Cogs are not a place to be in the middle of the night. I bid you farewell." With that, Crucible departs her own way, leaving you in the middle of the streets.
The rain continues down as you walk a bit further, criss-crossing the brideges and stairwells as the discussion continues underneath the street lights. Everyone may make a perception check. Anyone heard from Katt?

"Marvellous...? Not the word I'd use, that's for sure," Savrin grumbles to himself, pulling his hood up over his head in a pretty feeble attempt to shield himself from the rain. He doesn't seem too offended overall, though, happy to linger with a group as they made their way back to their respective abodes. Everyone knew that Sharn was not a place to remain alone, especially at night, and especially with this godforsaken storm. Gods only know what could happen.

Breaker shrugs, and says "I am not sure if it is marvelous, but you seem to enjoy arguing so that's up to you. Me, I always found a sword a little more comforting than words." It glances around at the weather,
