Star Wars RPG

I'm semi-familiar with d20, which is what I've read the Star Wars RPG system is based on. There seems some differences though, and I was just wondering if someone could briefly outline the system for me so I can get started.

Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Edit: I guess I should be a little less vague. What I'm manly confused about is creating the character.

On all the character applications I could find there's something like 100/100 XP spent. What is this XP and would I use it?

Also, it appears you start off with credits to put things in your inventory. How do I know how many credits I start off with and how do I know how much an item costs, e.g. a blaster?

There are several Star Wars RPG systems, at least two of which are d20-based. Which publisher's system are you referring to?

I think it's the one outlined by Wizards of the Coast, but I'm not 100% sure. All the Star Wars games I've found on this forum just say "Star Wars RPG" under the words "Game System." Here's the one I was talking about though.

There's your system. I'll see if I can't point someone who knows that system at your question here!

Saga edition is the d20 version by wizards using D&D3.5 ish rules

Age of Rebellion is the latest version by FFG complete with silly dice

There is also an ancient version that used d6s like all the best systems do

As for your questions, the exp in Saga edition is a threshold until you hit your next level. Wealth is determined by class with nobles getting some cool cash-based abilities, and the gear prices are in the gear section

Just grab the saga edition core rule book and glance around at the relivent sections

Darn it, how could I have missed that? Thank you both for your help. Now that I know the name of the name of the RPG system It'll be a lot easier to google the answers to my questions!

Since you guys are talking about it, my son in law is a big Star Wars fan.

He knows how to play D&D 5e, but is interested in playing Star Wars. Anyone have any input on what system would be the best for a newbie type gamer (in the same way 5e is pretty easy to learn)? He is not a fan of the game with the weird dice — but I think that is based on reputation rather than any actual experience with it.

If it's reputation vs experience, then I would suggest trying it. It is the best Star Wars system I've played before.
Otherwise hunting down the d20 version is ok.

In my tabletop group, the only Star Wars RPG worth playing was published by West End Games.

That's the d6 based one. So consider that in your search, and remember to tell the young players that Han Fired First.

D6 west end games system is open source as is the d6 system that evolved from it. I play both and if you want I know where you can download the complete collection for free, legally.

For the record, this system material does NOT appear to be SRD, so please do not share it on this site. The open source version is the "space opera" variant.
