New Guy Here. Looking For An Easy Site To Play On
I’ve tried playing on Paizo’s site, rpol.net and discord. All seem to be lacking. I saw the post of the month winner and I like the way it was structured. So I thought I would give y’all a try. I’m 53. Married. 6 kids. Wife paralyzed and on a ventilator so IRL games are basically out for me. I’m trying to find an rpg routine that works for me. Other sites make it painful to post either on desktop or mobile. I’m hoping this site is mobile friendly. I’m using my phone now and it’s wonky. I did go into options and changed it to mobile but nothing looks different. So hi o/ |

Welcome!
Glad you joined us, but I have to say, Mobile is not the best for posting long, complicated posts full of dice rolls and such. It's fine for keeping up, but until you get good at BBCode, phone posting will always be more cumbersome than the keyboard (with all the shortcut buttons). That said, there are people here who post entirely by phone, and get pretty good at it, so... good luck, hope you like it here. Happy gaming!

HI new guy!
You can absolutely post on mobile, dice and all. It'll be low on pictures and formatting, but functional. When you switch to mobile, it should change the way the site looks, but if you set up your account on your phone, it might have automatically detected that. Maybe the site delivered the mobile version already. I hope you find what you're looking for here. It's a wonderful, supportive community with a lot of imaginative, interesting people from all over the world. Storytelling, action, suspense, and you can't beat the flexibility of the schedule. Welcome!

Hey, Mr. NiceGuy! I'll second Lostcheerio's take that playing on mobile is entirely doable, though some aspects perform better based on which browser you use and how much security functions you have built into them. The good thing is that if you run into a problem, there's generally a few tech-savvy people around the boards who have run into the problem and can give you a quick solution.
For me (when I'm on Mozilla with full security functions), there is a difference with some of the interface skins, and Mobile or Drake (no background) seem to perform best (though I'll always love Lime). But, hey, don't let the old-style format and retro-board feel fool you. This is a great place for the latest types of RPG with plenty of opportunities to try out different systems or go wild with old-school stuff without some of the old-school baggage. Hope you find your niche and enjoy exploring around the boards! If you want, a good way to start out is to sign up for one of the New Player Solo Games...that should also give you an idea of whether the mobile interface will work for you in a game situation.

Howdy mrkrrtft,
Admin Dirk told you like it is. I have learned to use my phone but it is a bit more difficult than the keyboard. That said, as cheerio and badger said, it is possible. Of course, the best option is always to simply quote a previous post and then edit that. That speeds the process a bit. But be careful, sometimes when you quote from a mobile device things get a bit wonky. We are here to help you though, just let us know how to help and we'll try to guide you through it. Tell us a bit more about yourself. How about genre, do you prefer high magic, low magic, high tech, horror, sci fi/future tech etc.? Do you have a favorite character class, race? Which RPG system(s) do you prefer? Do you intend to others and if so which one(s) are you going to try. Do you know how much wood a woodchuck chucks...if a woodchuck, could chuck wood? There are a lot of choices for various RPG systems here, although PF and D&D are the two most common. We have quite a few games with very long legs here. In fact, I talk about one below. To start, you may want to check out a solo game. This will help you learn the site tools, since each site is a bit different. As far as finding games goes, try here. This is where there are games seeking players. It can be a bit daunting but don't give up. It may take a few applications before you get accepted...but it's worth it once you're in. This is a great place to scratch your RPG itch and interact with some great DMs and players. There is some incredible role playing going on here. I thought I was a pretty good story teller, but I have been put to shame by the quality of many of the players...and I have learned a lot. This is a place where the people are welcoming, where the games are interesting, and where generally they only expect you to post a few times a week. I've been playing D&D for a very long time and I thought I've seen it all, but this site has some amazing games going on. I've been playing (storytelling as much as rolling) for a few years now in a game that has been going on continuously for four decades, started tabletop and moved online two decades ago. It's set in an alternate Europe where the worlds of Tolkien and Howard existed in ages past. So there is a hint of LOTR and a hint of Conan in it and since it's set in an alt Europe it somehow feels familiar. This is just one example and there are other great campaigns on RPGX. You should take some time to "stroll around" the site and see if anything catches your eye. I hope to see you around on the boards.

Welcome, mrkrrtft! I see that you’ve signed up for the New Player Solo Game. That’s a great way to get started on the site.
I wish I could add to the advice about accessing the site from a mobile phone, but I’m more of a desktop PbP’r myself. I hope you find a few fun games to join and settle into an easy gaming routine! |
