Plot Summary

Concerning your mission:
You have been summoned by the Council of Mages who served the kingdom of Cormyr. While you may not be the most famous hero around, they must see something special in you to have summoned you. They are quick to inform you of a grave concern to the realms. Apparently, several sources have informed the Council and the Royal family that, somewhere in the ruins of the ancient region of Myth Drannor, the energies of the Weave have coalesced into a pool of radiance.

Even more upsetting is strange ripples of power that would indicate a very powerful and evil artifact of magic is somehow aligned with this resurgence of arcane energies.

If you accept this mission, the Council is able and planning to give you a one-way teleportation to a safe area close to where the ripples of magic originate, somewhere in the ruins of Myth Drannor. From there, you must use the magical amulet that they will provide you with to track the ripples and find the pool, in the hopes that you can defeat whoever is feeding it and feeding off of it. If you are able to accomplish that, you should be able to deter anyone else from taking advantage of the Pool.

Concerning Pools:
A pool of radiance is a naturally occurring magical phenomenon that manifests as a liquid that resembles water notable for its shimmer, glow, and magical radiance. They are one of the most potent sources of arcane energy in the entirety of Faerun.

The Weave of the cosmos, on occasion would amass it’s energies in one place and the energies always manifest as a glowing radiant liquid. These pools could manifest in any place, be it in the middle of a scorching desert, A populated city, or a shaded grove of a secluded forest.

A pool of radiance is a dangerous thing because a spellcaster can use it to bolster their power and in turn grow in power itself.

Details:-DnD 5e: Player’s Handbook, SCAG, Tashas, Mordenkainen, Xanathar, Volo, Van RIchtens, ToA, Etc, Official only. Please get approval before using anything beyond what is listed.
-Players: 4-5 players, leaning towards 4.
-Level 3, basic equipment per class and background plus Advance Fee from the Council300gp plus one uncommon magic item that you have found on your adventures so far.
-This has the potential to be a dungeon crawl but in the dark depths where the gods cannot even hear you, all you have are your friends. RP 50% vs Roleplay 50% You get out what you put in.
-Let's stick to the prof's that are designated per class.
-Ability scores will be 27 point buy and HP will be average after level 1
-I won't be using the homebrew for starting feats for all, just human variant.
-I don't need character sheets yet but I would like you to use RPGX's character sheets.
-Deadline: Saturday 5/25

Hey, RL

What would you say the odds were of this game lasting for a while, and not getting abandoned?

Just checking... we've had a string of games started by GM's in the past, go for a month, then the game gets dropped, and the GM moves on to start other games. Eventually, the GM abandons their own name, and then comes back under other names, and starts and drops more games.

This is not one of those, right? This game is going to last a good long while? Because you are a better GM than Arthillian01 and Hal Hammerhand, for example. Correct?

I know my last game might not have lasted long but that was because of my own inexperience in the mutants and masterminds system and while I haven't been on site very long, I would like to make something of myself and enjoy a game with others.

Not sure I have seen those names floating around here so I can't say if I'm better or worse than them.

QuestionsHi Red. Just a few questions about the game:

1) What is your desired posting rate for players?
2) What is the posting rate goal for yourself?
3) When is the deadline for applications?
4) Do our character have to be motivated by a desire to confront and combat evil?
5) The "there's something special about your character" as a reason for being selected: Is that a thing that we should weave into our character backgrounds or personalities?

Could we switch out proficiencies? Like a Rogue trading proficiency with short swords for proficiency with the whip?
For ability scores will we be using point buy, array, dice rolling, etc.?
Do you use the homebrew rule that all characters start with a bonus feat?
How do you want character sheets to be created? Would using Dicecloud be okay?

Background: Urban Bounty Hunter

Personality Traits:
I am always calm, no matter what the situation. I never raise my voice or let my emotions control me.
I would rather make a new friend than a new enemy.

Ideal: Immortality. All my exploring is part of a plan to find the secret of everlasting life.
Bond: I won't sell an art object or other treasure that has historical significance or is one of a kind.
Flaw: I'll do anything to get my hands on something rare or priceless.

Personality: Geren is friendly, cheerful, and obsessed with treasure. He values magic items and unique or ancient historical objects over gold and gems, but won't turn down other valuables since he can use them to buy what he wants. Hedonistic and sybaritic, Geren's always up for a good time, especially if somebody else is paying for it. Always ready to make a new friend, Geren prefers to talking things out to violence.

Appearance:
 

Youthful, handsome, and rarely seen without a smile, Geren knows he's good-looking. He dresses with an eye for fashion first, but won't compromise his safety to do so. He mostly keeps covered, so his skin is pale. He keep his curly light brown hair cut short for reasons of both style and practicality.

Backstory: Geren had no desire to be yet another manual laborer, didn't have the patience to work behind a desk, and was too ambitious to settle for those anyway. He'd grown up reading history books and become obsessed with collecting rare and valuable items, especially magic ones.

Geren would take any chance to improve his situation,so when he was offered the chance to become an adventurer he jumped at the chance. After getting on-the-job training as a rogue Geren took to adventuring like a duck to water. He showed an aptitude for both the physical and social aspects of an adventuring career, able to handle most aspects of dungeon-diving. Fascinated by magic (especially necromancy) Geren eventually came across a tome that let him develop the abilities of a Phantom. He uses his new abilities to enhance his already-numerous skills.

2+ posts per week but I'll refer to the players.

2+ posts per week but that all depends on the players and real life.

3) When is the deadline for applications?

I'm leaving it up to player interest. I am hoping to get a couple applications a day and cut it off once it fades off, perhaps. I want to give everyone ample chance to see and apply to the game.

4) Do our character have to be motivated by a desire to confront and combat evil?

You were summoned by the Council Of Mages, you need to at least be motivated by the advance fee of 300gp or a need to risk your life for the sake of adventure.

5) The "there's something special about your character" as a reason for being selected: Is that a thing that we should weave into our character backgrounds or personalities?

If you want, you may, even secret it to me if you like. Some adventurers don't see their true worth or specialness themselves but mages can see all sorts of unseen things.

@Delpinator: I can't seem to find any official breakdown of the Soul Knife archetype for the rogue class. Can you send me a link?

Blackdragon: I can't seem to find anything on Drakewarden. I know it's in an official book, just can't remember which one.

@Double or Nothing: I can't find the official rules on Phantom either. Which book?
Also, Will update main add with info:

Personality: Beyond her belief that she is meant for something great in the service of the gods and people of Faerun, Vistra lives big. She is gregarious and fun, wild and adventurous. Anybody can live a normal life. She was meant to be remembered - from her prowess in battle to her ability to take on all comers in a drinking contest. And she knows that she will work with people of similar personalities, so she is generous towards others, especially with giving them space to do the great things that they are meant to. She has no knack for subtly or trickery or magic, and respects the people that do. She is generous with a compliment and seeks to make talented friends. She is very attracted to people who possess skills that she does not. Vistra is a strong believer in destiny and people being 'chosen' by the gods, even if they don't believe so themselves. She loves a good joke, a fine meal, and the warmth of spending time with comrades.
Trait 1: Bold. I do not give in to fear or worry and tackle issues straight on.
Trait 2: Reverent. I am always respectful of the gods, no matter which god. They all deserve homage.

Ideal: The strong are meant to defend the weak. The most worth life is a life of service.

Bond: I am a protector and take care of those who need me.

Flaw: I was raised to believe that I am something special and don't handle failure well.

Appearance: In a word, Vistra is a bit larger than life, beautiful, outgoing, adventurous, and full of energy. She is a full-figured woman who carried herself with confidence. Her long, bright red hair is a source of pride and she is constantly changing it - adding braids, letting it flow free, or styling it in whatever way seems fun at the time. Her fair skin and intense eyes have turned more than a few heads but so has her spiked battlerager armor. Everything about her demeanor says 'proud Dwarven warrior'.

Backstory: Vistra is the daughter of 2 renowned adventurers, most famous for defeating the legendary Frogemoth of The Evermoors. Any offspring of Baern and Audhild were destined for glory. And thus far, it has proved to be true. The first born, Orsik, has become a mighty sorcerer who died defending Norland from an incursion of Slaadi. Gunloda, second born, is a battle cleric of Clangeddin Silverbeard and is known for fighting demons in Amn. And while 150 years younger than her next eldest sibling, the expectation that a Balderk will rise to greatness has not diminished.

Vistra has trained for battle since she was strong enough to pick up an axe. Her head is filled with the legends of her parents and siblings and the great things that she will accomplish in her life. She is a true believer in her destiny and lives her life boldly, like she believes that she should. Her parents stopped being able to control her many years ago and have basically let her do as she pleases. That the Council of Mages took note of her is just as it should be, in her mind. Her few and minor deeds thus far were obviously just warm-up for what is to come. Her only regrets are the lovers that she leaves behind... and a few angry spouses.

Her longest friend (and lover) is a Tabaxi adventurer named Water Reflecting Starlight. He encouraged Vistra's wild lifestyle and spun storied (fantasies) of what Vistra's future legend would be. However, they found themselves to be on the opposite sides of a contest for the Lost Treasure of Elk Valley (not all it was cracked up to be). They were working with rival factions and faced each other in battle. Water struck the first and last blow, with Vistra refusing to harm her friend. The 2 have been on terrible terms ever since.
