The Firefly Class ship named "The Last Laugh" is in need of a mechanic. Specifics on application/character creation are in 1st post of this thread.

Ok, just so you all know, this is what we are looking for in a mechanic...

Female to balance out the Male to female ratio of the crew.
Maybe a red or a blonde? or maybe a nice blasé?
Definitely incurably cheerful with a taste for dramatics and explosions.
Not a cat person, please.
Drinks like a sponge, but a non-smoker.
Is able to solve problems, not problems like "What is beauty?" Because that would fall within the purview of the conundrums of philosophy. Solve practical problems, for instance: how to stop some mean mother Hubbard from tearing us a structurally superfluous behind?

No really, I'm just goofing, make whatever you want. :P

Six gerstlers crammed under every cooling drive so that you strain your primary atery function and you end up having to recycle secondary exhaust through a bypass system just so's you don't end up pumpin' it through the main atmofeed and asphyxiating the entire crew. Now that's junk."

Physical Name Valerie 'Val' Weston Gender Female Age 20 Physical Description Val is a very attractive young woman, when she is not covered in grease or grime from working on ships. These times are often few and far between though.

Concept and Character Defining Role/Archetype/Concept Mechanic Motivation: Seeing more of the universe and starting a new life. Goals: Learn everything she can and possibly one day have her own fleet of ships. Fears Being stuck in one place unable to ply her trade. Virtues Honest, and hard working Vices: A bit naive due to her age, possessive/protective of her work.

Background Val as she prefers to be called, has been tinkering with ships and anythign else mechanical since she was old enough to stand. Her parents only had one child, and her father was determined she be able to take care of herself. As such he taught her the basics of self defense, and how to fix engines. The latter she took an immediate and enduring interest in. As she grew older her appetite for mechanical work only grew. When she was a teen she could take a part and engine and put it back together without any help whatsoever. Val's parents were killed in a crossfire when she was 16, and it shook her to the core. Blaming the authorities for her parents death. Without her parents Val had to find work and ended up working in a shop, she thought was legit. That was until it was raided and her employers arrested as well as her. After her arrest she cooperated and told the authorities what she knew, which actually was very little. After a few nights in jail, she was released. Val decided it was time for a change of scenery, and started looking for work on a ship, hoping to get far away from her former life as a whole. Val is protective if not overly protective of her work. She takes great pride in her efforts and can be fiery tempered when someone messes with her things.

Hey JS! You're the first to submit an app, and maybe the only one. I can vouch for your reliability as a poster as well.

Plot Summary A newly obtained Firefly Vessel, by a newly put together crew has just completed on their first job. It went well enough, but all but 2 of the crew now want out after the payout. You are in need of a job or a place to be other than where you are at. You are currently on the Reno Skyplex. Ever sail in a Firefly? Characters are joining a crew of folk who want to get to work on their own out in the black. All characters will want to be on the crew. Timeframe will be just after events of Firefly T.V. Series Final Episode and prior to Events of the Motion Picture “Serenity.”

The Hook TBD You need a job. There's a docked ship that needs some crew. What are you waiting for?

Game Mechanics What 'type' of game will it be? Game will be typical of the Firefly/Serenity theme. Players’ characters will be part of crew – a team. Each should have motivations and or reasons to have joined a crew, and to stay part of one. Obviously, these motivations and reasons do not have to be known by other characters. How many Players are you looking for? 3-4 CURRENT CREW Player Character Crew Position The Rat Queen Kierra Sinclair Programmer/Hacker/Captain Blackdragon0 David Stone Public Relations (gun hand) What is the characters' starting level? Greenhorn How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin with? This is determined by the starting level of the game, which is Greenhorn. Point buy system - 42 points for Attributes, 62 points for Skills. Are there any particular character “things that you want... or do not want? Some Traits, Complications may be limited to minor. “Reader Trait is off limits. Mute complication cannot be chosen. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game? Uh-duh. Human only please. No aliens in the ‘Verse, people are weird enough as it is. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game ? All players will do their own die rolling. GM will roll for all NPCs and all nasty ‘Verse surprises. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that Players should know about? Yes. Here's the link to them. Is a character background required? Are you looking for anything in particular? Yes. Characters Backgrounds are up to players, though should be looking to be part of a ship's crew. The “Hows” and “Whys” of this is strictly up to the player. GM reserves right to “suggest” changes be made before game start for better “flow” of game. No Lone Wolf type characters please. Are your Players restricted to particular rule books and supplements? Yes. These are the books I have, and all are allowed. -Serenity RPG Core Rules Book -Big Damn Heroes Handbook -Six-Shooters & Spaceships -Cortex Shipyards, Volume 1 & 2 Character Submission: Need name, Age, Sex, background, and general idea of skill set (like complications, traits, etc.) you want your character to have. This can all be blended together in a paragraph or two as I'm not picky. Character generation will take place after your player has been accepted (though it you wish to get a head start, feel free to do so, but this will not sway acceptance into game). Lastly: No dice rolling in the Advertisement Thread. Shouldn’t be a problem since Cortex rules are based on “Point Buy” system.

DESCRIPTION: Hero generally looks bored and while she is no Venus de Milo, she's definitely closer to being Hercules and Cacus. That is to say, The strong and silent type, Literally. She prefers clothes that do not restrict her movement and boots made for stomping. It is a very rare moment to see her without some sort of bag about her waist or strapped to her leg where one might holster their piece. It's not that she hates guns, she just never bothered with them preferring to get close and personal. Nearly always smells of motor oil and is that lavender? BACKGROUND: The Tyson's are a long line of prize fighters yet despite being born beside the ring and dominating the junior leagues with what everyone thought was a bright future ahead of her. Fighting was not Hero's true love. There was always something about machines that fascinated her and it was almost like she could listen to them. The first time she was allowed to look around a ship's engine room... Well, she spent the entire journey there, learning whatever the mechanics would teach her. When she was old enough to make her own choices she swapped her hobby with her professional life and struck out to become a mechanic. Worked here, there and even for BlueSun for a while. But when push came to shove, it wasn't completely what she wanted. So here she is again looking for work. She prefers older ships, they have more character.
