Application by Norse Name: Grum Race: Grey Troll Class: Kineticist Party Role: Blasts from the past Appearance: Grum ain’t a pretty sight, that is for sure. Warts and shaggy, sagging skin in mottled grey tones can be seen under the shamble of smelly hides, discoloured leather straps, black feather bundles and bleached bone talismans. His lanky legs end in big, disfigured feet sporting wooden sandals and (stolen) woolen socks in a multitude of different colors. His forehead is drawn back in a scalp scar, making the left eye seem bigger and constantly weep tears. At the rear of his scalp the white hair streams from an unruly ponytail tied with strings of dried animal entrails. One yellow tusk is ringed with silver and the rest of his teeth looks like they’ve been shoveled in by an impatient coal miner. Grum has a hog-bladder as a backpack and an odd assortment of tools for sacred rites and shamanistic rituals, like toad tongues, dried black pepper, circular glass pieces with smooth edges and pouches of fine sand and dyed chalk. Personality: Grum is like a child in many ways, despise the many years of life’s hardship he has endured. He is straight forward, self-obsessed, quick to anger and quick to laughter. He gets jealous when people get things that he finds nice - often things that shines bright, are magical, smell or taste good, or just things that the receiver seems to be very fond of. He is also very protective of the things he love and the people that he has come to trust. A little crackle of thunder will often help underline how seriously dangerous he can get if someone starts crossing his, often imaginary, boundaries. Grum is also very easy to please. A good meal, a few shiny things, or the promise of good things in the nearby futurs, is all he needs to get a really big and wide, and toothy grin going. Background: The night was dark, stormy and terrible. Rain came down in violent bursts drenching and flooding everything and everyone. The wind went over the land in buffets that could rip off roofing, turn over trees and lay havoc to the harvest of the year. Most terrible and violent was the thunderous cracks, the ever-blinding flashes of light and the booming seething voice of the thunder god, Rull. And in the midst of all this, on a cliff unsheltered from the storm, a birth of a troll happened. Grum had entered the world, where blood and tears of pain was washed away by the endless rain, where the cries of anguish was drowned out by the thunder, and where flashes of white lit up the mother and her child in as she held him to the sky and named him Grum, with Rull as the only witness. Grum has always had a weak spot for his mother, although she was harsh, dangerous and presented him with years upon years of strife, turmoil and a haggard living in general. He visits now and then, but mainly he keeps to the towns and cities where life seems to bloom - although it rarely presents itself less dangerously than what he was used to. Grum’s appreciation of the civilized world also has its roots in the knowledge gathered there. It turned out that he was a quick study and that the languages of the wide world opened to his mind, like a flower to the dawning sun. These days, he plows through a tome on poisonous plants found in the Kingdom of Korvale. One day he decided to go for a pause down at the Gilded Feather where it turned out he would find adventure waiting...

Princess Aja Name: Princess Aja Race: Orc Class: Unchained Monk (Scaled Fist), Chained Summoner (Synthesist) Party Role: Melee both directly and via summons; some face / utility. Appearance: Green skin, flecked with dark-green patches that orcs find gorgeous, other races maybe less so. Her hair is brown and full, often held up in a bun fixed in place with bone and wire ties. Her ears point up sharply and end in points, not unlike an elf's. She wears jewelry of bone and silver for everyday and social occasions, but sets such trappings of orcish royalty aside when facing danger or adventuring. Her face is exquisitely delicate for an orc -- though somewhere midway between attractive to monstrous to a human -- depending on their level of exposure to orc and half-orc kind. While being a full blooded orc, she might be mistaken for half orc by someone unfamiliar with the clans. Her physique is slender for an orc, Pathetic flaw: -2 Strlacking some of the race's robust musculature; but she bears herself with constant proud confidence and dignity. She can influence a room -- regardless of race -- adapting to whether the social occasion requires fluent rhetoric or snarling wrath. Princess Aja prefers to wear light garb when she is in a place that appreciates orc beauty, the classic barbarian bikini could suit her fine. But among places less friendly to her race she covers up more according to local custom: tunics or robes but not armor. Her pride is such that she must strive to dress socially appropriate to whatever culture she is visiting. She bears several exotic weapons, and thereby is easily taken for a monk. Everything I'm describing here is pretty normal for a Synthesist Summoner with a quadruped eidolonWhen her eidolon (Naginal) comes upon her, he first forms like scaled dark red-hued armor. She bends over into a quadruped-like shape. Her neck lengthens, her head turns reptilian, she grows a tail and stubby little wings (incapable of flight, yet) appear on her back. She is halfway transformed into a small draconic form -- and might be taken for some kind of dragon-kin who goes about on all fours. However, she still retains feminine curves and some humanoid hybrid-reptilian features. In draconic form she can access and use gear normally when she rears back on her haunches. When she is angry, her eyes glow and flicker like flames, and heat shimmers dance around her. When she engages it battle, flames flicker around her weapons, or claws, or fangs. Personality: Aja lived a sheltered life as an orc Princess is one of her traitsprincess -- which is to say she was exposed to people aggressive, callous, and domineering, but she herself always felt secure and protected by her father (who doted upon her), and his loyal guardians. So are heart she is used to safety, and Disadvantageshe can be shaken if her life is put to jeopardy. She scarcely wears her heart on her sleeve, but inwardly she seeks to be cherished, admired, and wanted by others. Se felt that originally her tribe, before she fled what she experienced as a betrayal, an unwanted marriage to secure an alliance with a neighboring tribe. It was this factor that led her to betray her training, purpose and people. She is lawful-neutral, in contrast with most orcs. Her exposure to monastic training inspires her to seek purity: to achieve a state of moral or spiritual perfection, for herself or for others. The red-dragon nature of her eidolon tempts her toward a selfish path: he is a lawful-evil spirit who cold-heartedly seeks avarice and self-interest. So she is at a steady state of conflict with the spirit that she bears, that unlocks her supernatural powers. Her moods can vary: from warm to steely to a tight-woven wrath: but she is always a princess, always above the small and trivial. She bears a pessimistic and pragmatic view towards life, especially political life. She is conscientious toward her duties, but can lapse from them out of self-interest. She is focused and steady; her passions are strong but tamed -- and this is one tool that gives her influence over others. Two things have influenced her, to sap her boldness and confidence. The first is her Pathetic flaw: -2 Strphysical weakness relative to many orcs, the second is her long subordination to her mighty father. Without her eidolon upon her, she will shy back if physical danger seems likely. I social situations without obvious physical danger, she readily interacts with others talkatively, warm, and even touchy or affectionate, so long as doing so fits the dignity of a barbarian princess. She can be agreeable or disagreeable as needed. She has cultivated attitude and tone as tool of influence by a life of exposure to political machinations. She fits in with cultural norms: she doesn't flout convention -- but rather gets the job done preferring orthodox means. Background/Motivations: Born and raised an orc-princess. Studied sorcery, showing a natural flare at a young age. However, her sorcerous studies took a twist when she unexpectedly bonded to the spirit of a long dead red dragon -- her eidolon Naginul. Instead of completing her development as a sorcerer, she became a summoner, because of the dragon-spirit developing an affinity for the Fire Infused Templatefire element primarily, and the Versatile Summons feat: fire and airair element secondarily. She chose the ancient Osirian god Ra as patron, an obscure patron self-directed choice she made based on scholarship, quite at odds with her tribe. Ra is a patron of Fire, Glory, Law, Nobility and Rulership -- all traits that exemplify her affinities and her moral sense. Aja pursued a monastic path seeking the self-discipline needed to control and not be dominated by the draconic nature. While evil cruelty is common to orcs and part of Naginul, that repulses her. Aja left the orc realm for personal reasons: for once in her life putting self-interest above tribal duty. She has since traveled far, and advanced her skills as a mercenary-summoner. She is looking for place in the world where she can be appreciated and admired for her achievements; to be wealthy again; and to live with control over her destiny and not at the whims of a capricious world. So saving a young girl is a step both toward acclaim and wealth.   Background .   Stats: Drawback: Sheltered. Brought up in courtly environments and knowing little of violence, you have trouble getting accustomed to it. Effect: Whenever you have less than half your maximum hit points, you are shaken Flaw. Pathetic: -2 Strength. Traits: Witty repartee - +1 bonus on Bluff, and Bluff becomes a class skill Princess (female) - +1 bonus to Diplomacy and Intimidate, and Diplomacy becomes a class skill. (Bonus due to drawback) - Magical Knack (summoner) Favored class: Summoner Favored class bonus: +1/4 evolution per level. 3 levels summoner = +3/4 evolutions. Korvale's cities and towns are at least 90% human with smatterings of the other common races. Populations of other races are found in the wilder areas. (Well wilder to the human population. The other races would consider them to be civilized.)

The kings of Korvale haven't always been good to non-humans but as it stands, the common races aren't seen as outsiders anymore. All of the other races are either travelers from other lands, or not fans of human rule.

I might switch to pitch a different character, my decision depends on a couple of things.

For Orc there is this:

- Command: Minions & companions get a bonus to attack and damage rolls equal to your Cha mod.

Does "Minion" apply to summoned creatures?

What is the level adjustment to the Fire Infused template? (It is +8 to stats, was assuming 1 LA).

Or nether warped, cold lich, or elder vampire -- what are their LAs. (They are +12 to stats, so assuming 2 LA.). Because they are +4 Charisma, I also have to consider them if the Fire Infused turrns out to be 2 LA.

If the above assumptions are correct, then I'm thinking of a Flame Infused Orc, Scaled Fist Unchained Monk / 1, Synthesist Chained Summoner / 3

I posted an alternative character application, Aja the fire infused orc summoner.

Relative to my original character post (the dwarf), this new one is still an adequate melee combatant, but also with more social skills, and some more creativity available with spells. Net, a character I can do more with. And what other game lets you play a synthesist? Very few.

Questions:

Orcs get bonuses with axes. Do they get any free proficiencies with axes? Or just the normal class proficiencies.

Core pathfinder:

Weapon Familiarity: Orcs are always proficient with greataxes and falchions, and treat any weapon with the word “orc” in its name as a martial weapon.

For everyone: do you have any guidance or flexibility on Favored Class Bonuses? Many of the custom races have no race specific FCB.

For a summoner character, I'd want the half-elf's option if I could pick any:
- Half-Elf Add +¼ to the eidolon’s evolution pool.

@Cat: lol. Would you believe my backup character was also going to be a synthesist princess? I guess great minds think alike, huh? (Or as my mother always liked to add: “fools seldom differ”). Although mine was going to be flavored as an anime-style mahou shoujo (like a more serious Sailor Moon or a less tragic Madoka Magica), fusing with her eidolon as part of a cinematic transformation sequence.

On another note, if you are fusing into a quadruped form, have you considered taking the Mount evolution and becoming a power team with another PC specializing in mounted combat? Just a weird idea I always thought would be fun to try.

A summoned fire creature counts for the +1 to spellcasting but doesn't count toward the bonus to fire damage.
