The Banshee Bride
A one-shot for 4 - 6 level 3 characters.

System D&D 5e

Sourcebooks: PHB, Volo's, Xanathar's, Tasha's.

Posting Frequency: 2 times a week. DM post every Monday and Friday. Player posting windows close Sunday and Thursday at midnight EST. If all the players post quickly, or if a player makes a bold move, I may volley back sooner than scheduled.

Timing: Applications close August 12, and I will set a team August 15. First DM post August 19th. I hope to finish by January 2023, but if you push your noses into all the corners, it could go 1 - 3 months longer.

The Hook: You, my friend, have a question. You need the answer badly enough to risk, well---everything.

You seek information from or about the dead, the past, a future that seems impossible, or a love that feels doomed. Perhaps you have suffered a great loss, or perhaps you fear one, or perhaps there is a mystery from your life, your past, or your family's past that you have never understood. You have heard that if you bring your single, unique question and an acceptable personal gift to a certain tavern on the new moon, you can hire a guide to lead you to the lair of Malveen, a banshee diviner who "has answers, and likes shiny things."

Now, you likely realize that for that for the first time in more than a century, the new moon is coinciding with the winter solstice -- the longest, darkest night of the year. But, I mean, that seems fine, right? And you cannot wait another month to finally know...

You as a Player
You have taken or agree to live into the idea behind the the https://www.rpgcrossing.com/showthread.php?p=5946262Oath of Sangus. You are collaborative; you want to play boldly, but as part of a team. Your posts, even out of combat, contain an action and often a skill check that pushes the story forward. If it all goes horribly wrong and you die, but you get a good story out of it, then you will feel you won anyway. You enjoy relationship building, dark humor and whimsy, plot twists, discovery, strategy, and combat.

Most of all, you are curious! You need to know what is in that chest or behind that door and what that NPC is hiding. I like a sandbox, but this is a one-shot with a limited cast and a limited map, so I am looking for a team that will say YES, AND, to the world and then boldly act so the world (me) can respond. I want to volley!

Me as a DM
I view this game as collaborative storytelling, guided by the dice. I am not on your team, but I am your team's huge, devoted fan, and your Banshee-questioners are my favorite adventurers. I won't fudge the dice to make things easy, and the monsters will be out to getcha, but I am always rooting for you.

I played DND all through high school and some in college, but didn't return to it until the pandemic brought me to RPGX. In the intervening years, I played MMORPGS and simple tabletops like Dungeon Crawler. I am currently DMing a heavily home-brewed Ghosts of Saltmarsh and I completed a fully homebrewed oneshot called Battle of the Bards --- my pride and joy. I DMed the Banshee Bride at table to playtest it, and I am excited to see how it unfolds in PBP.

I am good at plotting on the fly and incorporating PC backstories. While there is a written adventure here, with maps and traps and a cast of NPCs, the story itself will be shaped by your your questions/items and your choices.

The Party

You are LG, NG, CG, LN, NN, CN.
You level according to milestones; this is a one-shot, so you may only level once.
You bring to the table a good RP reason for wanting to say YES to this adventure---I want to believe your character will stretch, grow, compromise, and sacrifice to get the answer to this question.
You are collaborative, and willing to look for a good story reason why your lawful good paladin would tolerate and work with that true neutral warlock with a hell-pact.
You will use standard array or 27 point buy to generate your stats. (Don't roll dice in this thread!)
You begin with any mundane armor/weapons/gear you like, + one UNCOMMON magic item (subject to DM approval) a potion of healing, and 2d100 + 100 gold.
You will make and keep an updated character sheet on DND Beyond and link to it in your stat block. I will put your character into a campaign, I own all the sourcebooks allowed, and since I have a DM level sub it will cost you ZERO to make any allowed character on DND Beyond for my convenience.

Just wondering, are we allowed to use the race changes made in MPMM? Or is it strictly the books listed.

Awesome, gonna make a Kobold then.

Application

Nukky
Kobold Circle of Wildfire Druid (3)

left-aligned image

Background

Nukky was born of a family of forest kobolds, who were part of a larger forest collective in charge of the keepsake of the forest around them. It was a simple time for Nukky, growing up in the peace of the woods with a variety of creatures. One day, a great fire ravaged the forest, along which Nukky's family was a victim of. However, having grown up a forest warden, Nukky had accepted the death of his family as part of the cycle of life in the forest. Fires themselves were part of the natural order of things, and worked to breath new life from its ashes. The young kobold took to this mantra well, communing with the spirits of nature to come to this understanding. With a burnt wooden staff inflected with smoldering lines of fire, Nukky took to the woods as a caretaker.

One evening, Nukky began to hear rumors from vising travelers of a rumor for the ability to speak with the dead when presenting a gift. While Nukky was not devastated by it, he realized he did miss his family. Deep down, he feels like he needed to speak with his family, and let them know he was doing ok. He held one more memento of the Great Fire, a glowing fiery rock. He knew this would make a good present, yes.

Appearance/Personality

This red-scaled kobold is rather cheerful and positive. And yet, beneath his seemingly naďve visage, Nukky would be considered wise in terms of understanding the meanings of life and death. He is a curious sort, always searching around the forest for new wondrous acts of nature. He don's a simple tunic and set of leather armor to protect himself, and wields a staff of burnt wood and smoldering ash he calls Firestick as his druidic focus.

Info
Age: 8 Ideals: Death is part of life, yes yes
Background: Hermit Bonds: Friendly animals of the woods are nice friends to Nukky
Alignment: CG Flaws: Why would people lie to Nukky?
Size: Small Physical: 3'1", 90 lbs
Gift: Hot Shiny Rock Question: "Did Nukky do a good job protecting forest? Nukky misses you all."

Stats

NotesWanted to create a semi-innocent Kobold character when I learned about Wildfire Druids. I feel that the interplay of the extremely varied ages that Kobolds live with fit well with the description of this particular set of Druids. Making him young and inquisitive to give a different outlook on what death is. The idea is also that in fighting the Great Fire in his past is what led Nukky to grow as a Druid and to become part of the Circle of Wildfire, to the point that the staff Nukky used to use is now burnt and molten as Firestick.

For this, I wanted to make sure if it was ok to use the MPMM version of Kobolds with Draconic Legacy/Draconic Roar instead of Pack Tactics/Grovel.

As a player, I want to have fun roleplaying as an interesting version of a basic druid/healer role with a character that would have a normally different outlook. I like to challenge my creativity in making compelling characters that also serve as a boon to the party.

For my Magic Item, I would like to request a Bag of Holding since Nukky is the type of person who loads up on Goodberries and stores things he finds while walking through the woods.

interested... I'll think about it and see what pops into my thick skull

Application
left-aligned image
Name: Telendrae Whispertree
Race: Half-Elf
Class: Sorceress
Alignment: Chaotic Good

The question you want to ask the Banshee: What is this strange mold growing on my skin? Is it dangerous/Will it kill me?

The "shiny" gift you have for the Banshee and its backstory: Telendrae has come with the offering of a perfectly flat pebble from the riverbed. While she was out sourcing a few herbs and spell components for her pouch one evening, telendrae came across a stone bridge. Looking down from the middle of the arch into the mirror-like stillness below, her gaze caught a glimmer in the rippling tides, and intrigued, the Elven Maiden dove from her lofty perch into the water below. The river was not very deep, and her plunge took her straight to the rocky bed, where her eyes and quick reflexes grabbed hold of a small, smooth, stone that reflected marvelously in the silvery rays of moonlight. Almost as if it were glowing under the gentle gaze of La Lune. Taking her strange find home, it was later revealed to her that this precious item was known as moonstone, and was viewed by some as an item of luck and prosperity, while others viewed it as ill omen for things to come.

Background: Sometimes called "The Witch in the Wood" Telendrae has lived by offering up basic spells and charms to the commonfolk. Known for using her magic to cast out Rodents of unusual size from swamps and houses, the young Mage has fought many foul creatures in the hopes of cleaning areas of disease. Not only has she had mild to moderate success in these endeavors, she has aided many a local seamstress in the mending and dyeing of clothing for special events in the villages across the territory. And even flavoring desserts at fairs for the happy onlookers to try on Holy days. Telendrea works off of the principle that if she can lighten the load of her community, then perhaps they will aid her in return. And they will all prosper more from the cooperation.

Personality: As a toddler, Telendrae was always getting into things, exploring her surroundings, and trying to understand how things worked. As she got older, she learned a small portion of propriety, though her curiosity and bountiful energy never left her. She is eager to help those who come asking with a spell, or piece of advice, and genuinely enjoys interacting with all sorts.

-X-X-X-
Ideal
Gifts should be used to help everyone, not just solely for selfish benefit
Bond
Someone I once loved died because of a mistake I made. I vow that no one will ever have to experience my pain
Flaw
I am far too trusting of strangers, thinking only the best of those I have just met

Red Cards: I honestly can't think of anything right now, but I will be sure to let you know if something does come up in game.

D&D Bio in Brief: I have, in general, tended towards a melee focused "lead from the front" type of characters in the past, with Fighter being my favourite class for the majority of my playing career. I really liked how easily customizable Fighters were with their various combat styles, and equipment loadout choices... and combat is generally the strongest aspect of my game knowledge wise. Lately, I have been trying to expand out and play other types of characters too, and not just rely on the heavily armored door kicker. I hope to bring an approachable, fun, face to help round out any groups rough edges.

Name Hlin
Race Centaur
Class Bard
Alignment Lawful Neutral
Question for the Banshee Our oracle told us that there is a creature, an adventurer, who will approach the banshee at the same time as one who comes from us. Though this adventurer is unaware, they hold either some information, ability or identity that will save our Herd from an impending doom--who is that?
Shiny Gift A polished horseshoe, once worn by the great Centaur leader, Vrenacla. It is believed by many in the Willow Herd to be magical, but no one has been able to determine its nature.
Background A diplomat and traveler among the centaurs, Hlin has been tasked with sorting relations between the Willow Herd and those creatures and communities around them. He has done his best, gathering up spells, myths and a few bruises and scars from his travels, brief postings, and exchanges. The surrounding world, he has found, is much crueler than he would have liked to believe; it also has a richness of foods, music, lore and creatures that he could never have imagined. On the whole, his curiosity about what each village or herd brings into the world that no other creatures know outweighs his fear and disgust of the dangers and evils he has now come to expect from the world.
Personality Quiet and contemplative, Hlin is dedicated to fulfilling his missions, including this latest one. Trained by the Herd's former diplomat Melova (granddaughter of the great Vrenacla), he realizes he will never rise to her abilities and achievements--and that, in a sense, gives him a freedom to take risks and to sacrifice, if needed, for others in his group in order to achieve a mission.
Ideal Hlin will follow his task to the end, while exploring the novelty of the world whenever possible.
Bond Any creature or thing aligned in the fulfillment of Hlin's current remit deserves unwavering support. And, of course, always the Willow Herd.
Flaw Hlin truly loves and believes in his Herd, but he has never fully trusted the Herd's Oracle--a skepticism that is practically heretical among his own.
Requested Magic Item Deck of Illusions or The Horseshoe of Vrenacla (whose powers are unknown to player until GM determines and activates/has activated during play)
Red Cards Standard (graphic, gratuitous descriptions; sexual assault; hostility toward another player veiled as PC vs PC interaction)
Link to D&D Beyond Character Sheet Here
D&D Bio in Brief I am a creation of RPG Crossing! Most all of my roleplaying (with a brief exception of some scant teenage gaming) has been here, since I joined in 2020. I enjoy different styles, different systems, and different characters for different games--and this is my attempt to create an "open that box" collaborative character for this particular adventure.

Filly,

I'm definitely in. I have taken the Oath of Sangus. The uncommon item is a Cloak of Protection if that is okay. I will write the story of how Mavros acquired it.

Application
right-aligned image

Concept art
Name: Mavros Riasson
Race: Tiefling
Class: Hexblade Warlock
Alignment: CG

My Question: How could my mother love a creature as evil as my father and yet be such a caring, gentle soul?

My "shiny" gift and its backstory: A black onyx and silver ring that belonged to his only friend growing up. He recovered this ring when he captured his friend's murderer and the city watch gave it to him as part of his reward.

Background: Mavros' half siblings are ashamed of him. He has two older brothers and an older sister. His mother's first husband died while clearing an infestation of evil creatures from the sewers of his home city, many say it was Mavros' father who sent those evil creatures there. Shortly thereafter Mavros' father, a Devil known by many names, seduced his mother Ria. She always told Mavros how kind he was to her and that the ultimate gift he gave her was Mavros himself. He isn't so sure that his life is a gift. He had to struggle through his whole life. When young, other children tormented him mercilessly and his older siblings, who could have stopped it easily, simply watched on. Eventually, he learned to protect himself and his siblings showed him grudging respect, but their shame was always near. Only his mother showed him unconditional love.

Mavros searched and searched for his father or a way to contact him, but he never found him or a way. Eventually, he figured his father wanted nothing to do with him and so Mavros decided he wanted nothing to do with his father. What he did find in his searching was a supernatural creature called the Raven Queen. It was she whom Mavros made a bargain with, and she gave him powers with swordn shield and armor, as well as knowledge of the arcane, knowledge which he used to defend himself and those weaker than him in need. Of course, he understands on occasion she may have need of him and he is bound to her.

Having been picked on for much of his youth, he learned to defend those who were weak and couldn't defend themselves. This is actually what led him to his current profession, bounty hunter. His only friend from his youth, Shanain, a defenseless young woman, was murdered for a black onyx ring she always wore and for something else she refused to give up to her murderer. Mavros vowed to find out who the perpetrator was. He followed the clues and the trails and he found the man who did it, a man who was a bully growing up and who wanted something Shanain was unwilling to give him. So the bully killed her and stole everything she had. When Mavros found the murderer the man laughed at him, called him weak, said he was so ugly even his own father wanted naught to do with him. He was someone both he and Shanain knew while growing up, and they both detested. Mavros nearly killed the man, but he held back. He knew killing him like this would be wrong, would actually make him more like his father. He fought the urge to slice open the man's throat as he lay prostrate and defenseless before him.

Instead, he took him to the watch and presented all the evidence. Mavros was there when Shanain's murderer was hanged. Mavros smiled. Shanain had no relatives left, so Mavros took the black onyx ring to remember her. The city watch was impressed with Mavros' ability to sift out the murderer and they gave him other people to find. Often they were simple thieves, but on occasion they were worse, far worse. This gave Mavros a sense of purpose, but he always wondered why he was born, and how could his mother love a creature as evil as his father. On his last mission, he nearly died fighting his prey. It turned out his prey was a master assassin and she had a cloak that protected her. Mavros eventually prevailed, but it was a near run thing. When he took his prisoner to the watch, Mavros was wearing her cloak. Being a bounty hunter, and a good one, has provided him with a comfortable life. Then he heard of Malveen, and he knew he had to ask her his question, he simply had to.

Personality: Mavros is inquisitive. No, that's not quite right. Mavros simply must know what is in every shadow, what is behind that glimmer, and who lives in that old, supposedly haunted tower. It is this inquisitiveness that makes him such a good bounty hunter. Of course, it has nearly killed him once or twice too. Such as the time when he was young and saw an unnatural darkness, a darkness where it shouldn't be, where a torch should have dispelled it. So, of course, he entered it. There he found a creature that exudes darkness, eating, what it was eating may have once been a man, or a woman, or a pig, he couldn't tell. What he could tell was it saw him. Lucky for Mavros he was fast and the creature was enjoying its meal and rather bloated. One would think that would teach him a lesson, but he continues to look and go where others, those more careful, would never tread. The thrill of the moment, like the adrenalin rush he felt when he saw that creature all those years ago, that is what he craves.

Ideal: Rules are not necessarily sacred, principles are

Bond: My half siblings are ashamed of me, I will change that or die trying

Flaw: I'm too inquisitive for my own good, like a cat...but they have nine lives

Red Cards: Usually hearts and diamonds?

D&D Bio in Brief: I have been playing D&D since it was a supplement in a game called Chainmail. When it first came out in a white box with three rather cheaply made rulebooks inside I rushed out to get. I played it all through junior high, high school, college, and my years in the Army. My favorite characters in LOTR are Gimli and Aragorn, so my first PC was a Dwarven fighter and once AD&D came out I made a Ranger. Heck, half the reason I went to Ranger school in the Army was so I could be a Ranger! Back in the early days it was all about hack and slash and finding treasure. Then a friend and I built a world, which was fun, and I found role playing instead of just roll playing. I found other RPGs (L5R, King Arthur Pendragon, RuneQuest, GURPs, etc.) but I always came back to D&D. AD&D was my favorite version but I have grown to love 5e and this may be my favorite now. I have grown to love PbP. I was introduced to it on one of my deployments as a way to continue playing and I haven't stopped. I enjoy PbP because, IMO, it allows for more role playing opportunities and the story tends to be more full.

I am a team player and try to help other players who may not be as comfortable with PbP. I love to role play and I try to make my posts as descriptive as possible while helping to move the story along or keep it moving. I know there are sometimes opportunities to slow things down a bit though to properly role play a scene. That said, I also love a good fight and when the time comes my PCs tend to be in the thick of it. I post something every day.

Character Sheet: Is located here

Hi BananaBadger, your one shot was so much fun, I had to apply for this one. Strangely enough, I am also posting a centaur character.

Dreyer
right-aligned image

Name: Bly Dreyer but goes by Dreyer
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Race: Centaur

Class: Echo Knight -- my shadow is a reflection of me with more or less solidity as it chooses. Unfortunately for me, what it generally chooses is what my mother created it to do. It models the behavior I SHOULD be doing, rather than the behavior I want to be doing. But, I have come to some accommodation with it recently and now it can actually be a powerful asset though adjusting my mental state towards is a work in progress.

Magic Item: Dreyer carries a sentinel shield made from sylvan tree from his mother's grove. As the trees in her grove are sentient, she made sure that the shield is sentient as well. It warns him of danger, points out things of interest, and of course, nags him about putting himself at risk with his behavior both adventuring and relaxing. Why else would his mother have given it to him?

The question you want to ask the Banshee: What is the source for your magic? It's not that the answer will change my life but the labwork for my course in monster magic requires an actual encounter with a magic using monster and, well, banshees are supposed to be beautiful women so it's not like chasing down a lamia or a lich or something.

The "shiny" gift you have for the Banshee and its backstory: The trophy I won for the quadrennial centaur races. It was one of my favorite things before university and has that sentimental value but I was thinking maybe it's time to grow out of childhood things and it's a polished greenstone urn shot through with marbled magenta veins so it's definitely a shiny.

FAQ: (from bar conversations)

* Yes, my mother is the Goddess Shiallia (technically an Exarch but I normally don't get into this)

* No, I don't know who my father is, she never cared to share

* Yes, she manifests as a 10 year old girl, she probably created me rather than birthed me

* No, I'm not adopted (though sometimes I wish . . . )

* NO! I don't think she had sex with a horse/unicorn (and I would never say that again. She's a Goddess and as you can see from my shadow here, she has a creative way with punishments).

* Yes, I'm a student at Strixhaven Academy. I'm not a great mage or anything but my mom wanted me here and she always seems to get her way.

* Yes, I'm on this trip as lab work for Professor Strygalldwyr's Monster Magic 112 course.

* No, according to the proctor, I'm not required to wear pants. Deal with it.

* Yes, it's difficult to get armor, you have to combine a hauberk and barding, but it's doable.

* Yes, my shadow is doing something different. Probably doing what my mother thinks I SHOULD be doing; it's like the me she wishes I was rather than the me that I am.

* No, my shadow doesn't talk to me; doesn't listen to me either. No, it's not cool, it's stupid.

* Yes, I'd like to have a drink later. Pick you up at 8?

Hey filly,

So we lost the gm for the game this guy was created for recently. If it is a acceptable ch I'd like to apply with it.

Would like boots of elven kind. If allowed.

Deathstrike:

Shadar-kai

Fighter/Eldritch Necro Knight.(bg: soldier) ( lv 2 fighter, lv 1 necro.)

NG

Is it possible for me to stay and live a reasonable life on this plane till death, never returningto the shadow realm?

GIFT: At one point while protecting a caravan DeathStrike encountered another being from the shadow realm. He carries their crystal in a box bound by magic so as to not be pulled back . This may allow the banshee to travel to the shadow realm. ( the other had joined bandits and was a killer he she it is dead now.)

Hellion was born in shadow. In a place with no name. His mother couldn't take both the pain of shadow and of child birth and died. His father had rosen to top necro mage. And was therefore the leader. Until a nother out does his power. So as not to appear weak to the others he has elected to wait to resurrect his wife. It is the Shadar-kai way to remain emotionless.

Hellion as with every Shadar-kai will not receive his adult name until he comes of age. ( 100) He has until then to make his inner self known. Here most lean towards magic, darker magic, Necro magic. Hellion has a natural talent for the arcane.

But that isn't as natural to him as the sword. Shadar-kai have warriors and battle mages but none like Hellion. Most Shadar-kai fighters use a chain weapon. He prefers 2 swords. Most Shadar-kai battle mages use eldritch magic to attack along with their weapon. But Hellion combines necro magic with eldritch magic. It is apparent he will be both fighter and necromancer from a early age.

Hellion trained hard but unlike his fellow Shadar-kai. He does not revel in causing the pain of others.( Unless those others are evil). Hellion stands as a protector more than just his clan, but in his heart others as well.

All Shadar-kai feel great pain from living in the plane of shadow. But weather it is lesser or Hellion is better at hiding it, others notice. As he grows older the clan seeks to make him War manger. Not just a leader but one who is forever to rule with an iron fist, with out mercy. And toy with the dead. Becoming the most evil among them.

His father does not want this. He knows Hellions true heart. And so make a a plan. When a Shadar-kai comes of age the shadow plane takes hold fully. And the pain becomes forever. To counter this the clan sends all who come of age to the normal realm. To wander for years( 100 if they survive, or don't come back sooner.) They travel like this using a shadow stone.

Hellion's skills with blade and magic earn him the name DeathStrike. Because no matter what strikes you blade or magic you die. This also means he has come of age. And so must journey for years in the normal plane.

His father rushed him to a secret chamber. " Son they wish to keep you here. Make you A WarMancer. Allow the shadow to take you fully. I have sacrificed my love for this clan I will not sacrifice my son.", He tells DeathStrike. Who has never herd one good thing from his father.( So he too hides his love and emotions) thinks DeathStrike. " You must take this gear and this shadow stone and go NOW from here! When you are on the normal plane crush the shadow stone and never return. Go now be the protector you with to be. Take my tome. You will learn great magic to aid your blades." His father ordered and left.

Hellion DeathStrike froze a moment never return.... That was hard, but then the pain came as the shadow came to take him. And poof DeathStrike was gone from the plane of shadow forever. As his father had told him he used 2 big rocks and crushed the stone. Now unless he were to find a shadow stone here he can never go home.

He traveled a bit until he ran into some people who chased him. Be it his race or a fear of strangers he did not know. In the shadow realm he could teleport away. But not here. He ran and couldn't teleport as he tried then he stepped into the shadow of a boulder and poof he was gone. The people unable to see him left. He hadn't vanished no he shadow stepped out a shadow of a tree 30ft away. ( So here the light hinders my teleportation. but in shadow to shadow I can. This also took more out of him than in shadow realm. He soon found out he could only shadowstep a certain number of times.

He eventually found a friendlier town and stopped a goblin attack. This got him work guarding caravans. Where he made friends. But none have been told his real name only the name Deathstrike. Since he has traveled much and helped many. He normally acted alone. But was alsowillingto work with others if needed. He just hasn't found any long term boon companions.

PERSONALITY: Can and will stare down a demon with out flinching.
He hides what there is of his emotions, but he has them. Break through to them and your either a enemy, or a friend for life.

BONDS: Honor is my life.
I defend the weak and those I care for. Stand beside me in doing so and I'll die to protect you too.

IDEALS : I serve as a guardian to all who need it.

I do not drink alcohol smoke or use drugs I'll die first and take many with me.

FLAWS: I'll never admit when I'm wrong.
I have no mercy for my enemies I'll kill them all....

Me as a gamer what I enjoy is rollplaying my chs. As you probably have seen. For ne the ch is in a fantasy realm where anything can happen and or be done. Lots of people try to fit set standards only. Not me. If I'm playing fantasy I don't set standards I break em. This particular ch was designed for a different type of dnd5e game. The dm went away and his story was left untold. It's my first multi class ch. And I created a name for it. Yes I know as a lv 3 he ain't quite there yet. Don't judge by the cover just wait till you see the whole picture. Of course a 1 shot won't get him to the lv needed either. So hopefully I'll get to continue playing him afterwards.

You should also know I don't to oaths. But I do play through to whatever end I've had or killed off several chs on here. One such chs is in a hall of fame game.

What I bring to a game is the chs themselves. Each different and each unique. Even if people see similarities they are all different and those similarities are cover and not the whole.

Father Julian

JULIAN BLACKWOOD
”Father Julian”

Race: Half-Elf
Age: 44
Class: Knowledge DomainCleric 1/Rogue 2
Alignment: NN
Background: Acolyte
Characteristics:

Description:

Backstory:

Question for the Banshee: "Who were the monsters that destroyed my temple... and why?"

Gift for the Banshee: A necklace with a perfectly preserved emblem of Yhone. Julian dug it out of the smoldering remains of his temple, and he's carried it with him ever since as a token of hope deep within his heart that, one day, he'll find the answers he's looking for. Though it isn't worth much, it has great personal value to him, and it isn't something he would trade lightly. However, it's a small sacrifice to make if the Banshee is able to finally set himself on a path toward closure.

Player Bio: I've been playing D&D for close to 15 years now, and I'm still learning new ways to enjoy the game. I think my favorite aspect of it, and likely the thing that most describes me as a player, is how you can sit down with a bunch of people and craft a story out of nothing. With the help of your party and the roll of a die, you come up with scenarios, problems, and solutions that might never have occurred to you on your own, creating fun and interesting narratives totally unique to that group. You could sit down with the same group of people, given the same quest prompt, and never have the same adventure twice, and I love that.

Personally, I'm a player who really enjoys good cohesion. Whether it's in a combat heavy, mechanically driven game, or something that's 90% role-play, I like to find ways to compliment the people I play with and give them a chance to shine. At the end of the day, if everyone brought something unique and interesting to the table, it was a much better experience overall.

This seems very promising! I have some very good experience with one-shots and love a good “ghost story”.

I do have one question though, @Fillyjonk. I have an interesting (I hope) idea for an undying warlock, however, this is a subclass that is described in the Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide, which is not one of the allowed sourcebooks. Would you be willing to make an exception or should I try to find some other suitable class to describe what I have in mind? Thank you.

Name: Tommy Scubbins (11 y.o.)

Race: Fallen Asimar from Humans (Using MPMM ruling discussed here for +2 Int & +1 Dex)

Class: Wizard - War Magic

Alignment: Lawful Good

Question for the Banshee: Am I evil? Why did my mother kill my father? Can I stop it? (He hasn't yet decided)

Shiny Gift: A silver wand stolen from the Uphill School of Magic

Background: Urchin

Backstory:
I have a mother, Yargrath. She's kind but strong, and very green. Yet...she is also not my mother. She says she found me. Between two bodies in a pool of blood. My parents, she supposes. The gutter kids tend to understand the concept of my mother-not-mother, yet the clean ones do not. They live in their nice houses with the "correct" number of parents, with their maids and their butlers, their serving girls and tutors, and they know nothing of the differences between people. What they think though, seems to be the right way of things. Because even the adults and the guards turn their noses up at a half-orc taking care of a human.
And what do people do with things they don't understand? They ridicule it. They demean it. They push it around in the dirt and make it worms and force it to cry out "I'm little Tommy-no-family. I eat worms like my beastly caretaker! I killed my parents". People are cruel...

People are kind. Yargarth takes care of me, with nothing in return. "Pay it forward." she would say. There is another, Professor Williker. I used to sit under his window and listen to him teaching the new classes of wizards. I learnt a lot from my hidden perch, and one day I got brave...or ballsy, as Yargarth would say. I used the disguise self spell I had learn from his class to turn myself into a student I knew to was off sick. He saw right through it, but he didn't say a word. One day he came to the window and announced there was a new student joining, a Master Undersil. Well, I took the hint, and started my studies formally....somewhat formally.

Life as Undersil was pleasant, but it was not possible to keep the appearance all day long. So life in the gutter continued. The bullying continued. The names, the beatings, it continued. It continued, it continued...then it stopped. I..I? stopped it. They pushed me and pushed me. I so wanted to freeze their bones with everything Wiliker taught me, but I made a promise not use my magic against people. I just wanted to stop them. I wanted them to feel my pain. I wanted them to die.
I screamed, the sound was a thousand crows tearing into a lone man's flesh. Skeletal wings sprouted from my back and my eyes were gone, replaced with two pure pools of the deepest abyss.

"He's an Aasimar" I overheard,"And not one of the good kind. His life, his past, it has pushed him."
There was another voice, Yargath's. "I found him in a pool of blood. His mother, had killed the father and then taken her own life."
"He's seen too much, endured too much hate..pain. I'm afraid it has manifested in him and his road may be set."
"But he's such a sweat boy..."
"For now."

They ran from me. All the children, and the adults too. And then, so did I.

Personality:
Tommy is a young boy living in fear. Fear of himself, and what he is and could become. And fear of others for the way he has been treated before. He knows people have the capacity to be good, but given the fear is cautious to make attachments. He will overcompensate when it comes to right and wrong. Trying to do the right thing in all occasions to counter the "wrong" inside of him.
(Tommy has only ever hurt those who have bullied him, and that was only using the Fallen Aasimar ability to cause Fear. But given a life of being an outcast and bullying, he believes he is a monster more than he actually is one. It is my hope that through this adventurer he realises himself to be as he feels he is....Or not. Perhaps he encounters worse people and does indeed fry them all and does become the monster. Let's find out!)

Ideal: Aspiration. I'm determined to prove I am not a monster.

Bond: It is my duty to protect those around me from harm, especially from myself.

Flaw: I blame myself for most things, even if I'm not directly involved.

Requested Magic Item: +1 Arcane Grimoire

Red Cards: PC vs PC

Link to D&D Beyond Character Sheet:

D&D Bio in Brief: Played Pathfinder, then moved to 5e. Always been the DM in RL, so glad to have RPGX to be a player. Pushing 4,000 PRGX posts now. Think I'll have a little party when that happens.

I was going to say no because I need to own the Sourcebook on DND Beyond to be able to look up stuff about the class etc, but I went to my account just in case and looked....turns out, I DO own the sourcebook. HEH. I don't have a problem. I have a COLLECTION.

IOW, Undying Warlock is great.

BDO and everyone, yes, it's fine to apply with a character you made previously or even used in another game.
