Image from 'Irish Farmers,' a book of shirtless... well, obviously

Name: Said "LASS-rain"Laisren Gilgan, he/him
Race: Human (though probably built via Tasha custom lineage)
Class: Barbarian (Path of the Beast) Alignment: Too farm-bred to put a lot of stock in the Lord's Law. Too corn-pone to do anything too naughty.Neutral Good

The question you want to ask the Banshee: "Are Fainweyn and the town doomed with me, or are they doomed without me?"

The "shiny" gift you have for the Banshee and its backstory: "If you set aside the cow, this is the most valuable thing I own. Fainweyn gave it to me. Of course." Rolls up the sleeve of his flimsy peasant's tunic, exposing a golden armband over his left bicep. "This. He says it makes me look 'mighty'" Laisren blushes. "Which is stupid. I think it's an excuse for me to take my shirt off. But. Well. It IS an excuse to take my shirt off. I don't want to give it up. But it's either give this, or that sack of rye we just harvested. And that's not very shiny, yeah?"

Background (including how you got to level 3): “You want to hear about me? C'mon, we both know you don't. I'm not the important one. Really, are you sure? Ok, ok, fine. You know the story. Rich city boy. Meets poor country boy. They fall in love. Parents don’t understand. Yadda yadda. I’m the poor one, in case it’s not obvious. But there’s a twist. There’s always a twist with these rich kids.

"He is the glittering hero. Fainweyn, I mean. Son of the Chieftan. Long raven hair. Grey-blue eyes. Broad shoulders.... Oh! Sorry, drifted off there. Always buttoned-up. Always wears... oh, y'know, those poofy neck-tie thingys? You know! Anyways. He's perfect. Don't ask what he sees in me, I'm a mess. But. Well, he sees something. That must make me something? We met, we talked, we laughed. We... spent the night." Laisren blushes. "Lots of nights. But you got to understand: he's REALLY the hero here. Hero-hero, real deal. Not me, him. Every decade or so, our town under threat from the Fomorian. We fend them off, but at terrible cost. But there's a prophecy. It says: 'The new moon on the solstice will call the Fomorian their last time. For on that time, the Champion and his Consort will stand. They will break the monsters, and Righ (that's our town) will be safe forevermore."

"Fainweyn is the Champion. There's no doubt about that. But... well... you see..." Laisren blushes again. "Who else could the 'consort' be?" Now Laisren's expression turns dark. "The town thinks they know. They picked Roisin. She's beautiful. She's rich. She's fine, she's fine. But she's not... He doesn't love.... You get it, right?! Fainweyn's father says his consort must be proper. The Council says it's a perfect match. And she is real strong, don't get me wrong. But it's not about if she's good or bad! It's not even about if Fainweyn needs to turn me away, or pretend to be with her. It's... it's... If she's not the consort, then they'll both die, and the town will fall! If I'm the consort, then I need to be by his side at the last battle. I have to, y'know, take his hand and show myself to the town, regardless of what they might say! We've The source of some of Laisren's levels.trained together. We know how to fight side-by-side and back-to-back. I know we could do it. But if I'm not the consort, then I'll mess up his life, and everyone else's, by sticking my neck out. I don't know what to do!"

"You don't get it. My family isn't well liked. We don't fit in. Everyone says we're strange. They're right. We're too beastly-mannered. Beastly. People would not accept me as even a squire of the hero. My family holds a little farmstead out at the edge of The Pale. Every child of my family, when they become a man or woman, a strange affliction visits them. This is the source of my third level / Primal PathWe grow tails! Why? I don't know. No one knows. It's a curse. Great-Great Grandpa angered a Pooka when he clear-cut the woods to make the farm? Great-grandfather swindled an Abhartach when he cheated at cards? Great Grandma, who said she danced in the Faerie Rings as a girl?" Laisren shrugs. "No one knows. But it's in my family. That's why we stay in our place. Well, until me. Maybe. Depending on what the Banshee says....

Personality: Laisren has a very unsophisticated intuitive version of right and wrong - fairness and what's just. Wrongness, unfairness, or injustice can raise him to great wild passion. He can be quite outgoing when comfortable, but is very aware of his lowly station (and unsightly curse), which can make him awkward in social situations. He is eager to please, eager to defend friends and kin and folk who stand up for 'the little person'. He is easily cowed by grandeur and wealth. He is poorly educated, and is awkward in situations that require proper etiquette.

Ideal: Right and wrong is easy to see, when they press up against your nose. You just gotta pick right and do what it takes, no matter what folks say.
Bond: Fainweyn will save the town. I'll do anything to make sure he succeeds, regardless of what it means to me.
Flaw: My 'social betters' are better for a reason. Right? I can't compete with them. It's probably not worth trying.

Red Cards: I think they'll be covered by PG-13 ratings. I can be pretty open to most subject matters, as long as we get a chance to discuss approach and boundaries OOC beforehand.

D&D Bio in Brief: I started RPGs back in the day of OD&D and AD&D 1e/2e, and played for 6 or 7 years. Then I stepped away from most gaming as I focused on getting my learnin'. Came back to the tabletop right around the time 5e was introduced. I've run a live (roll20-based) game since then, and I joined RPGX about a year later. I've joined an embarrassing amount of games on site in that time, and my philosophy is that for the site to be sustainable, on average for every four games a person plays in, they need to run at least one. So I've run at least "embarrassing divided by four" games here on site.

I was a drama nerd and improv kid in high school and college - collaborative storytelling and 'yes and-ing' are the highest form of RPGing, if you ask me. I really value narrative control, though I understand that D&D is not a game that's perfectly designed to grant it (and that's fine!). You can see from the game I'm running that I like to hand the reins of storytelling, of defining and controlling NPCs and of building the world on the fly, to my characters as much as I can, within the confines of the story that I have to tell as a GM.

I like to think I've got a sense of humor. I can string a few words together sensibly. I believe very much in open OOC communication as part of the collaborative process. I'm not leaving the site any time soon.

Character sheet via D&D Beyond to come. Would you believe I've never used it before? Barbs don't take long to build, though...

Highest recommendation for this game and this DM!

I'm currently playing in Fillyjonk's wild and weird Saltmarsh game, and was lucky enough to be a player in the epic all-bards one-shot. She's a gifted storyteller, a generous game master, and super-engaged with all the zigs and zags that players throw at her. Also -- I know that follow-through is an issue for some games, but I've never known Fillyjonk to take a break from posting, in over two years. So apply with confidence, because this game will go.

I have heard of yon DM, Fillyjonk and have had some recent games I RP in as a player close, so I got room for one more.
Expressing interest.

Baly-Ho!
left-aligned image
Name: Balyarus Farfate "Baly" (Pronounced: Bal(like pal) - ee)

Race: Moon Elf

Class: Rogue - Phantom Archtype

Alignment: CG

The question you want to ask the Banshee: Will I live to see my dream of a Thieve's empire that I rule realized?

The "shiny" gift you have for the Banshee and its backstory: Silver loop earring he has had all his life.

Background (including how you got to level 3): Baly really loves two things, besides himself of course, and those are wealth (to buy nicer things), and a good fight. He loves a good fight, especially those he can win and doesn't get hurt or wounded, but even those can be fun. He doesn't say much if he doesn't know you, but if he does, you'll hear his opinion and usually with some friendly barbs and comments thrown in.
He doesn't like to talk about his early years much, as he was parted from his family for reasons he won't disclose. But it was around that time that he made a deal with a fickle Deity - The Raven Queen. Praying to her, he gained the "Phantom" abilities he still possesses of recalling skills of those he's slain, as well as the ability to have another "feel" the wounds he causes a foe during a sneak attack. He then began the life of a wanderer, getting by on his skills as a pick pocket and budding smuggler, loving life while still reluctantly praying to The Raven Queen so as to keep the "dark skills" in his possession.
He tells no one of his fear that he will die at the hands of another like him and never realize his dream of ruling over a Thief's paradise. Somehow, he believes the Banshee Bride must know the answer, though he hopes it isn't an adventure into death at the hands of The Raven Queen. That B*tch.
Personality: The best way to get Baly to do something is to tell him he can't do it.
Ideal: He doesn't steal from others in the trade as he's loyal to friends, not ideals. Everyone else can take a long walk off a short pier or very high cliff.
Bond: He has aspirations to become the greatest thief over the greatest thieving empire the realm has ever heard of.
Flaw: If there's a plan, he'll most likely forget it, and if he does remember it, he'll find flaws in it and do his own thing.
Red Cards: None

D&D Bio in Brief: I love surprises and randomness in a game along with the Freedom to RP with other creative minds and storytellers. Rogues are my favorite Class to play, and I've been drooling over gearing up a Phantom Rogue every since Tasha's came out. The freedom to RP a character as written and imagined by me within a storyline of myth and magic is very fulfilling to me in the collaborative setting such as this. I will endeavor to make any game I am in a better one through character words, actions, and deeds.

Note - D&D Beyond doesn't allow the Archtype of Phantom from Tasha's. If it does, it is asking me to purchase it - which I already did in pdf form, so I'll not be doing it again. I created a sheet there, but it shows the Archtype of 'Thief', which was the only option available to me.
I have created a full character sheet here on this site as well.
Still on the fence about the magic item, but thinking about it.

Leaning Sentinel Shield or Weapon of Warning for the magic item. Question for GM, can I take weapon of warning to be a longbow?

The other possibility is to get adamantium armor on the theory that it's so hard to get centaur armor.

So, if accepted to the game, I'd then be able to create a sheet under your DMship? Cool. Thx.
I kept it fairly short and sweet - my character's background, but if you'd like more, I can elaborate a lot.

Sentinel Shield please! Or the armor.

Weapon of Warning is one of the few green items that make say "With DM approval" Removing any chance of surprise lowers tension and stakes.

Not a worry.

Quote:
Dreyer carries a sentinel shield made from sylvan tree from his mother's grove. As the trees in her grove are sentient, she made sure that the shield is sentient as well. It warns him of danger, points out things of interest, and of course, nags him about putting himself at risk with his behavior both adventuring and relaxing. Why else would his mother have given it to him?

Name: Ariel (Awh-ree-el) Killelyth

Race: High Elf

Class: Paladin (Vengeance)

Alignment: Lawful Good

The question you want to ask the Banshee: Who killed my tribe?

The "shiny" gift you have for the Banshee and its backstory: An emerald necklace (an heirloom passed down for countless generations).

Background: Soldier

Ariel was born to and raised by a small but proud tribe of High Elves known as the Hond Ebrath. Despite the rest of the world becoming more and more integrated, the Hond Ebrath took great pride in keeping their tribe strictly limited to "pure" High Elves. They harbored no hate for most of the other races (with the exceptions belonging to the more monstrous races, such as goblins and orcs) but they did consider themselves superior to all others. It was the tribe's firm belief that they were direct descendants of Corellon Larethian and that mixing their bloodline is tantamount to blasphemy.

Although the Hond Ebrath believed in remaining faithful to the tribe, they did allow their younger members to leave the tribe in order to "find themselves." The common belief was, that those who were worthy would feel compelled to return. In contrast, those that did not return were not worthy and therefore needed to better themselves until they were ready to return and prove their worth. Ariel was a firm believer in everything that his tribe's elders had taught him while growing up. However, after spending six short months among practically every race under the sun, and observing their ability to live in harmony, his sense of reality was shattered. Suddenly he resented the outdated way of thinking and he made the difficult choice not to return. Instead, he found himself employed by a prestigious mercenary group known as the Silver Lances.

Working with the Silver Lances was exhilarating. Despite being sell-swords, they abided by a strict code. Their leader, William Ferrell, was a Human Paladin that dedicated all of his victories to Tyr. Despite that, he did not try and dictate whom his men worshipped (so long as they weren't evil in nature) as long as they believed in a higher power. Together, they fought everything from small goblin raiding parties to an ornery young red dragon that had been harassing several small farming villages.

After a couple of years as a mercenary, Ariel felt compelled to return home. He'd felt guilty for not checking in earlier but, truth be told, he did not want to be lectured about his chosen path. Despite his reservations, he couldn't stay away forever. The hidden valley was still his home and the Hond Ebrath were his people. He had high hopes that he'd be able to convince them (at least the younger members of the tribe) that seclusion wasn't the best path for their people. They should be living among the people with their heads held high and chests puffed out. Unfortunately, he would never be able to deliver that message.

When Ariel first arrived in the valley, he assumed that the tribe had abandoned their home for several centuries. The buildings still stood but the streets were empty. There were no young warriors practicing their fighting techniques, no vendors set up, and no farmers in the fields. Finally, entering the chapel, he found everyone. They were all together, and all long dead. There were no signs of struggle and it was clear that magic had been used to (seemingly) simultaneously kill every single one of them. Not one man, woman, or child had been spared. Right then and there, Ariel fell to his knees and dedicated the rest of his life to finding the one (or ones) responsible.

Personality: Ariel is a man on a mission. After losing his entire clan, he knows that he will not be able to move on with his life until he finds those responsible and makes them pay. Still, he does not let his grief or his personal mission dictate his behavior. He still leans heavily on the pride that his clan instilled in him and the sense of camaraderie that he found with the Silver Lances.

Trait
I've lost too many friends, and I'm slow to make new ones.
Trait
I refuse to become a victim, and I will not allow others to be victimized.
Ideal
Greater Good. Our lot is to lay down our lives in defense of others. (Good)
Bond
Those who fight beside me are those worth dying for.
Flaw
I have little respect for anyone who is not a proven warrior.

Red Cards: I'm not crazy about the idea of harming children but I've never run into anyone that was.

D&D Bio in Brief: Well, let's see... I've been playing DnD for about four years now and I've been on this site since March 2019. 99% of my exposure to TTRPG's has been DnD 5E. I feel like I can bring quality posts with a bit of personality shining through. Please feel free to peruse my post history if you're curious about my posting style. As far as what I'm looking for in a game? I like consistency, good storytelling, and a good pace (usually 1-2 posts per week).

Name: Ymir Wispybreeze
Race: Lightfoot Halfling
Class: Rogue (Swashbuckler))
Alignment: Chaotic Good
The question you want to ask the Banshee: What must I do to cure of my village's misfortune? How can I return home?
The "shiny" gift you have for the Banshee and its backstory: Not much, she only has one copper Penn. Though she considers it her lucky penny and is willing to give it away.
Background: Ymir was born into an ordinary halfling village. However, she was different than other Halflings. All fellow bare-footed small folk with big feet will tell you that us Halflings are natural lucksters, Lady Luck smiles upon us each time. However, Ymir was a particular halfling that was adored by the lady herself, everything always goes her way. As a young halfling, she was skilled in everything, to farmwork, then to gambling, fortune keeps smiling on her success.

But as it turns out, fortune was not smiling upon her. It was misfortune, everytime she succeeded and everytime she obtained what she wanted, a halfling would not receive Lady Luck's blessing, only a curse of bad luck. It was small at first, no one knew what was happening. Until slowly but surely each and every halfling in the village fell in bouts of misfortune, all except one. With that they immediately exiled Ymir so that she may never step foot on their village again. The young halfling girl couldn't believe the fate that was handed to her, that was when she caught wind of a Banshee Diviner, so she thought that this was her luck turning around. Maybe she can find a cure for this curse. She hopes if that was possible.
Personality: I tend to flatter someone when I'm nervous, sometimes I don't even know how to close my mouth
I have a love for gambling and risks, it reflects to how I act in dangerous situations
Ideal: Charity. I know I have a gambling problem, but if I had the money to spare I'd give a hobo a free meal and good ol Wsipybreeze hospitality.
Bond: I'm ruined my villages life, I hope to make amends or at least fix it
Flaw: I have a gambling addiction, don't hate me when I constantly roll on my dice please.
Red Cards: None
D&D Bio in Brief: I'm just a person that loves roleplaying a lot, I started playing D&D for at least seven years as of now and I'm enjoying the heck out of it. What I love most is the freedom and adventures that can happen on a table.

I'd like to think I bring a sense of enthusiasm to the game, especially since I use pbp as an active hobby I pursue.
