Is Cosmic the name of a specific power from that source? I ask because I described some of my character's powers with the "cosmic" descriptor; Quintessence just felt like something like that.

Alright, so let's make that an official promise. If Grunge makes the cut I promise that he'll be built so at the start of the game he only turns into a puddle and back - but if that becomes too annoying for everyone else to deal with he'll get a mysterious power upgrade where he gains the ability to consciously move his water molecules. Possibly including altering the tempurature of his Water form into alternate Steam and Ice forms.

I'll leave that up to the potential player base. Two cautions though. If you build to a theme with others, will it hold up if not all get selected for the game? If too similar will it narrow the functionality and effectiveness of the team?

Pairing up doesn't mean powered have to ge the same. But I would say to be fair if one doesn't get in neither should the other. Otherwise there's s whole background rewrite involved. And if they got in on their app which includes background then changes would disqualify them. Its a all or nothing play.

Silly Character Idea: A character with all of their points dumped into Minion. They could be a bumbling Mr. Bean type with a hyper-effective sidekick.


I appreciate the heads-up on supplements and restrictions! For now, I'm holding off on marrying myself to any particular stat block until applications are selected and the character creation phase rolls around. I know the system well enough to know that my idea is possible and that will do for now. (In reality, I will probably whip up so many character sheets until it is go-time and then start from scratch.)

Yes... maybe... I don't know. Like Moana and the Water Spirit (and we have Haku!). I agree there might be connections to be made here (and certainly skill synergy once we get into battle together), but there are lots of really, really good applications on this thread and I am not sure I will be picked, so let's wait and see who gets through.

Lore Question? If the asteroid 'landed' fifteen years ago, is the country made of barren space rock and a newly built city? Was arable soil imported to grow trees and such? Was there enough alien nutrition in the asteroid to sustain life once it reached an atmosphere? In that vein, what Is the makeup of plant life in the region? Is it classic equatorial Pacific, imported from around the world, reinvigorated alien seedlings... or a mix of all three?

For starters the only super hero rp I've done is masks. AND so far the storyline is cool. That being said I own over 10k comics. Hopes he will find himself in New Liberty. Or at least a nich he fits in. Also when he powers up you can't see him normally he just looks handsome and dark. Even if standing next to a giant life size picture of himself as a civilian you couldn't for some reason fathom they were the same person. Costumes He has 3. All black. One his winter wear. Black leather trench coat with a reddragon on it's back and hidden sword inside. Black cargo pants black shirt black boots. And black sunglasses. Black weightlifting gloves. Two all black tactical with black sunglasses, and sword strapped to his back . Sleeveless. Black weightlifting gloves. Three. Full black ninja outfit , full black gloves, mask, the works. Only Costume he doesn't have to power up to hide his identity in. Signature moves: Dragons fury- CHI Energy blast. A spinning back sidekick- knock out move( CHI powered when needed) and his flying dive punch where he Flys up and comes down on a target like a missle. In a massive power punch.. Civilian look: fit muscled . Dark hair. ( long short long...you get the idea he doesn't stick to either) sunglasses and weightlifting gloves optional... all black clothes sometimes the same as his costume. 6'2 avg weight for his muscular build. Sometimes wears shirts with Dragons on them even if not black, could be blue, or red, or Grey ect as long as there is a dragon on it. Native American (cheeroke)/ Japanese/ Irish mix. Personality: As BlackDragon he stands confident and ready. Born able to lead, go solo, or follow. He seems dark scary. But that's to make the bad guys afraid to fight him. Like Goku and superman he has a major flaw. He tries to give everyone a Chance to change. To repent their evils and become good.. This makes others think he is naive and foolish. It's a flaw that could get him killed one day. This does not mean he won't beat down a bad guy or end them if left no option. It just means he feels there's another way. And trys for it. As a civilian. David Lee seems happy . Normal for a martial artist, weightlifting , and workout guy.( couldn't think of a good word there). And seems very naive even when he ain't. Seems like a bit of a loner, but that's cause he has trouble trusting people after his parents death. He's very active and honorable. And quick to help others with no expectations of them to help him. When around others he seems very happy and friendly, but there is a hidden part . A hole not even his animal spirit can fill. ( no its not his dead parents) It's something every living creature needs to be whole. And that is called.... (shh it's a secret and I'm not telling. Lol.) Blink and you'd miss it but that hole inside shows a loneliness if you can sence it or read his mind. Yes David has lots to be happy about he's fit. He's a champion in martial arts tournaments, single and team competitions. He's good looking. And he's a hero. So that hole that loneliness is so well hidden most never know its there. Goals: To protect others even at the cost of his own life. And bring a little Justice to the wicked. He's not after money. He's not after fame. He's not even currently after vengeance. Motives: 1. A wrong was done apon him, and no one did anything. He doesn't want others to suffer anything like it. 2. It's a way to cope. AND 3.( THE MOST IMPORTANT) HIS HONOR CODE! Enter samurai codes here... "GI" HONESTY AND JUSTICE Be acutely Honest throughout your dealings with all people. Believe in Justice not fromothers but from your self.(hmmm feels like a hero thing) To the true man there are no shades of grey, in the question of Honesty and Justice. There is only right and wrong. "REI" POLITE COURTESY. Men have no reason to be cruel. They do not need to prove their strength with cruelty. A real man is courteous even to their enemies. Without this outward show of respect, we are nothing more than rabid animals. A man is not only respected for his strength in battle, but also by his dealings with others. When a man has said he will preform an action, itisas good as done. Nothing will stop him from completing what he has said he will do. ( except death) He does not have to promise, he does not have to give his word. Saying and doing are the same thing. ( Both he and I are very literal like that. And take everything as said and worded. Hidden meaning doesn't exist. ) Do as you say, say as you do. "CHU" DUTY AND LOYALTY. For a man having said/done something, he knows he owns that thing. As it turned out it was waiting for him. The Animal spirit was a great BlackDragon. It was his true self, his heart and soul. He found this and it Unlocked something beyond what was to be expected. CHI. No not the Iron fist CHI or even the great shaolin legendary CHI. No this was beyond even that. His CHI was a physical and visual manifestation much like in a street fighter game but more much more.( like Goku and the Z fighters) He trained hard and learned much. And found many ways to use the CHI of his BlackDragon Animal spirit. The hardest was how to use said energy to fly. Easiest was to increase the power and speed of his moves and attacks. And of course Dragons have scalely armor and shoot fire balls so he created a energy protective shield around him self( which always starts as a superimposed giant BlackDragon of pure energy around around him before it shrinks down to its green life force David sized field), and learned how to build up and throw energy. (This takes the form of a dragon's head before becoming a flying ball of energy. ) From his animal spirit only he has darkvision where he can see as well as a dragon in the pitch black of a treasure hoard cave. From his training, & powered by his CHI he has other sences that are beyond normal peoples. And of course he is bothe a martial artist and bodybuilder/athlete. All of this combined makes him super. What he does with it makes him a hero. Backstory: TBD. David lived a simple normal life. Well as simple as one could with a uncle who was considered rich and was a martial arts instructor. His uncle owned a 200 acre forest covered land/reserve. Where he trained David on weekends. Being part cheeroke the uncle had tribes come and go . A huge log cabin he lived in and about 200 yards from the road entrance to the reserve a dojo! David's uncle was so good he had 3 3hr classes a week where he trained S.O.F. officers in hand to hand combat. Trained 2 2hr classes a week for law enforcement that wanted to. And also during those 5 days he trained various beginners, moderate, and advanced classes for 6 hrs a day. This left his weekends open for David. He trained him in martial arts and many tribal ways to help him learn how to survive. . His uncle only slept 4-6 hrs a day. As David found out the hard way during his visits. But he grew used to it. And always enjoyed his visits. Now home life was more mundane . His parents worked they lived in a moderate house. And everyone was happy. He went to school and had friends. Here enters Steven. A small boy same age as David. Who was abused by his parents and was thus kinda a outsider. That didn't stop David from making him his best friend. Steven's parents were so abusive he'd have bruises everyday. Then one day Steven came home from school to find that they left him when they were 13. The trailer was gone his stuff everything. Not even a note. He started missing school. So David went looking for him. He found Steven on the streets. David's family the Lee's took him in. But a year later a gang started recruiting him. At 15 they told Steven he can only have 1 family its them or the Lee's. So he showed up one day... Steven walked down the street hood pulled down low. Machinegun loaded ready to go! HEY! ARE YOU READY? LETS GO! Let the...... ( hope you know the rest. Lol) ( Between the gang and his jealousy over David's life and family. Well he made a decision. A very bad one.) Steven came through the back kitchen door and started shooting he never looked to where or at who. David was getting something to eat. The microwave was behind the door as it opened towards the counter. As soon as he saw the gun and herd the shoots he push kicked the door on to the gun man, disarming him. And spun around the door catching his opponent with a right cross. Knocking him down the hood fell back and David saw his face and froze. Steven, jumped up turned and ran,, got away. David turned to see he had reacted too late his parents were dead. This left a lonely, sad, betrayed , very angry teenage boy on his own. Enter the uncle ( Chuck Norris/ walker style ) taught David martial arts between this and the part Native American(going with cheeroke) heritage he tapped in to a special animal spirit. [At age 25] ( BlackDragon) that Unlocked a different kind of chi. ( more goku than iron fist). This increases his strength Toughness speed and allows for flight , extra sences and energy blast. He calls Dragon's fury. That and the kickboxing, martial arts ect makes him powerful. He gets stronger the same way as Goku. The stronger he is through training the stronger he is when he powers up. David had before this Iike his uncle made a name for himself in the tournament circuit. Some money too. So even without his uncle's help he was well off enough to not need a full-time job for a while. Fortunately for him cause once he got his powers well he couldn't keep one. His first enemies were the gang. He took them down alone. But never found his former friend. Mostly he took them down leave them unconscious next to all the evidence. So the cops could arrest them. As like with his parents they couldn't do anything without out probable cause, and evidence. (To this day no charges or arrest made on his parents murder.) Then when close to finishing the gang off. There was a group surrounded by cops. ( Easy enough to get evidence with half the gang testifying against the rest to get lighter sentences) But the cops were under heavy fire. And some were wounded. David arrived and using his power of flight super punched through the roof. All the badguys were knocked out by the ceiling caving in. This was the first time the cops had met the BlackDragon. But they were happy. Told him thank you and said they'd repay him sometime. Around a month later a very strong supervillain (Hulk/ bane like) robbed a bank wearing bulletproof armor. The swat unit was unable to stop him. BlackDragon arrived pulling civilians back out of harms way. The swat commander yelled " Your deputiezed. Stop this monster." And that was it, it took all he had , every ounce of power and skills but he took the brute down. All legal like. So no problem with the police. They even gave him a tactical outfit ( debt paid). Costume #2. Things seem good. Until the apartment fire. He flew in and saved everyone. Yes that's right he did his job and more. But civilians had stood there being burned to death yelling save me not trying to get out of the fire.(Waiting for some famous super to swoop in all God like. Not one of them smart enough to try and save themselves. ) This left people with injuries. Burns, cuts, broken bones, and smoke inhalation. Was BlackDragon thanked. No he was blamed for the injuries. All of which were from before he arrived. Even the news said it was on him. Not long after there was this criminal from out of town. And while tracking them BlackDragon ran into Sergeant Steel. This was cool Steel was after the same criminal. So they teamed up. Good right teaming up with a famous hero like Steel. Well not as cool as he thought. They had caught up with the badguy. Beaten him. And David/ BlackDragon offered the guy his hand . "IF YOU SURRENDER, AND CHANGE YOUR WAYS , AGREE TO USE YOUR POWERS FOR GOOD ILL TELL THE JUDGE TO BE LEANIENT ON YOU" he said. As the badguy shook his head in agreement taking BlackDragon's hand he sucker punched him. It was a surprise attack followed up by another on Sergeant Steel. Then the badguy got away. "Your good kid but that naivete is gonna get you killed. " said Steel. And as if that wasn't bad enough well there was a news crew filming the whole thing.... Because of this and the fire thing, the place he called home said hang up your costume or get out. This was it. He had to choose between home or hero life. But then a super flew in on him one day with a invitation. New Liberty needed a new hero team to help as others were away. Was this it was this that one chance to be BlackDragon and have a life? Could he maybe open a dojo in New Liberty, or get paid to be a hero. Had this been his niche in life knocking? The possibilities are endless all he has to do is pass the application and he's in. So off he went. A bit of money from his uncle his tournament days. And a new hope. Forget the past it's time to move on. Maybe New Liberty is just what he needs. Important people.1. Parents( deceased) 2. Uncle ( family thought him martial arts) 3 Steven (former best friend who he now sees as enemy /unknown live/dead , or whereabouts. ) adventure hooks1. Return of Steven/ or not dead members of the gang ( possibly with powers) 2. The villan he and STEEL were after comes to town( I didn't even give them a name or powers.) 3 the big bad who was kinda like hulk but couldn't take a pounding from the Backstory is free and here. 4. His uncle comes to visit.. things not going well ( just make good rp. ) 5. Any of those bads listed are back and teamed up, or teamed up with other players bads... 6. Who was the super who invited him? Why? What did they expect? Did Steel have anything to do with it? Was there a specific reason or were they just inviting every super to try a ap.? PEQ AKA WS: 1) Today is a rare day off from your hero duties(True heroes don't have days off they are born heroes and die heroes. THINKS DAVID) and you're on your way to meet a friend for lunch.(A reprieve long enough for food. Good I'm hungry. THINKS DAVID) You walk past the Fifth Street Bank, the alarm goes off just before the door bursts open and Black Ice skates out on a slick of ice he forms on the sidewalk, a duffle full of money strapped to his back and another in his hand. What do you do? ( And here we go again. THINKS DAVID) As he runs into a blind spot and powers up while taking off his blue shirt with a purple dragon on it and stuffs it in a pocket. As he removes a black shirt gloves and sunglasses from another. As he takes to the air he texts the friend. ( I'm a be a bit late. But dw I'm just running behind. ) (Yeah literally. THINKS DAVID) as he tries to catch up.[ sorry I incorporated your narrative into my story as I sometimes do in writing pbp. It's away to show that I'm working with you .] 2) Wow, that hurt. Not just your jaw but your pride. You were sure that you and Sergeant Steel could take him down. Man, were you wrong. Not only was this your first defeat at the hands of a supervillain but it was all caught on camera. How do you deal with this? Head down BlackDragon walks by the camera "Sorry I'll catch him next time. " He tells them and Flys away. It doesn't matter if it's his partners fault his or he got sucker punched. BlackDragon don't care about that. No to him it's all his doing. His failure. He should of haven't held back, or should have seen it coming. Or should have been stronger. He shouldn't have lost no matter how. There's only one way to fix it. Training night and day till he's 3xs more powerful than today. Then hunt that bad down. And put him behind bars. So now BlackDragon will go taking the weight of the loss on his shoulders and train hard even if it kills him. Until he can go back and get that guy. That's who he is . That's what he does. It's all or nothing time and he's going to get it done. [ and a just plain response version . ]

Thank you for the answers. Yeah I would hope the characters stand on their own, just a cool pre-built relationship if they're not both selected. And to BlackDragon, I wouldn't expect that it's an all-or-nothing deal, more of a Batman and Robin situation: maybe the game calls for a solo outing of Batman or Robin is a better fit. I don't think any rewriting is needed if Robin does his own thing.

The strictest version of pairing up is a Double Dragons situation where both are theoretically needed for powers to function, which would definitely be risky and more all-or-nothing. For the powers, I would see it more as siblings with opposite powers or two halves of a family medallion (that slso grants different powers). That way they work fine on their own but a tasty complication if their brother or their amulet goes missing and it risks power loss for the player. Or it could mean the thief is now an enemy wielding your brother's power!

Not the easiest thing to collab on but the storytelling potential is huge.

Almost done with my own application. But can I say I adore the characters I've seen so far? All of them really stand on their own, some really unique and intriguing compared to the typical superhero. Cosmic, like the others listed, is a specific Power Profile with specific powers. Having cosmic as a descriptor is fine. For those not in the know - descriptors are a way to make your hero's powers fit your concept and are primarily for color. So one person's Blast could be a Flamebolt and have the "Fire" descriptor. Another person's could be Lightning Shards and have the "Electricity" descriptor. They do have some game impact since some effects work only on, or with, effects of a particular descriptor. So a hero that is immune to fire and heat would not be affected by anything with the "Fire" descriptor.

Great question. Thinking of how to create these things is what kept me up many a night, so I get where you're coming from. More will come in game but here's a quick answer to get you some rest.

Not everyone with superpowers becomes a superhero. There are many who either want to live a more normal life, don't have the courage to face dangers head on, don't have the personal make-up to be outgoing and bold, etc. That does not mean they do not try to use their powers, for gain or for good.

A great example of this is the team of terraformers who used their powers to literally build Elisia from the ground up. Led by Cultivator they planned, coaxed and nurtured every inch of Elisia to become a landscape that would not only be livable but breathtaking. With a blank canvas they created biomes that could not naturally exist in their location or seamlessly exist in such proximity to each other. They did not just paint broad strokes for backdrop but focused on the small and functional details as well. Tamor Park in New Liberty is such a case. A personal project of Cultivator, he designed the park with the goal of giving the city a reminder of the majesty of nature. A blend of rock formations, cave complexes, dense woods and open fields it provides a refuge just outside the hustle of downtown. Hundreds of acres provide an outdoor playground for nature walks, rock climbing, hiking and camping, spelunking or birdwatching.
