Ruin of Darkfir Castle (Basic Fantasy 3rd Edition)

Game NameRuin of Darkfir Castle (Basic Fantasy 3rd Edition)
Game SystemOther Roleplaying Games
ThemeClassic Dungeon Crawl
FlavourOld School DND
Plot SummarySet amidst a deep fir wood (hence its name), Darkfir Castle was home to the Sires of Darkfir. The last member of this family, Sir Reginald of Darkfir, did not adhere to the knightly virtues of his forefathers, but fell to vice, greed being the strongest of them. He turned to robbery and became the bane of the whole duchy. For a long time, the Duke was occupied by demi-human raiders, but finally he called his vassals and laid siege to Darkfir Castle, storming it and burning it to the ground. Yet, no trace was found of either Sir Reginald or his treasures. Soon after the siege, locals tried to take stones for their homes, but fled in panic as they saw a ghost haunting the castle, which quickly fell to ruin. Up to now, treasure and knight remain lost—but rumors about both hidden in the haunted castle are still far spread.

This module will be played using the Basic Fantasy Core Rules (3rd Edition) which can be found for free here:

https://basicfantasy.org/downloads/B...Rules-r107.pdf

Character creation will have a few tweaks and likely won't be used RAW (Rules As Written).

I love old school D&D! I'd be very interested in this if you end up running it.

I'm a huge fan of BFRPG. Love the nuance between the old school feel and the more modern touches. I'd love to step into this game with you guys. I've generally DM'd these rules, but am itching for some play.

Excellent! It would be great to have a veteran of the system in the thread. Hoping for 1 or 2 more before we begin.

We may be proceeding, I'll just make an NPC to join the party. Please fire up a level 3 character of your choosing. All supplements are fair game. You can also roll 4D6 and drop the lowest for stats, placing them where you like. Let me know if you have any questions.

Torg SkullslingerEver since Torg was a shaveling, he’d had trouble fitting in with the other dwarves. While he enjoyed rough-housing, the games of goblin-ball would invariably be delayed by Torg stopping to help an injured player – something that was just not done among proper dwarves. He loved to read – read! – holy texts more than work at the forge. His piety set him apart from the other dwarves, who generally considered him odd but harmless.

When Torg’s beard came in, he left the safety of his clan’s mine to go on a pilgrimage to learn more about the One-Father. Then, after several years away, his steps turned homeward, to minister to his people with his new-found wisdom. However, upon returning to his clan’s mine he found it in the process of being sacked by a force of undead! He joined in the fight and destroyed many a skeleton with his hammer and sling. Having run out of sling-stones, he began to pick up and hurl the skulls from the shattered skeletons, earning his name, “Skullslinger”.

The undead were beaten off, but at a terrible price. Torg Skullslinger vowed to find the necromancer who had sent these monsters against his home, and slay him.

If this is still open, I'd love to throw a Halfling Thief into the mix.

History:Marca grew up in a nondescript family, in a nondescript little community, and was itching to get out of the mundane life and make her own way. Making her own way though, meant taking things that others had left behind or didn't need. She didn't identify with the title of thief, but she really didn't identify with the work that other common folk did; slaving away all day and gaining little to nothing save some food and a roof over your head. No, she was destined to have piles and piles of treasure and wealth so she could have others do those jobs for her.
Growing up, she had heard of the castle and all the tales that went along with it. The pieces of the stories that stuck with her were those of the treasure and how it was "lost" and just waiting for her to go get it.
And so she shall.
