![]() For a moment Ravgor was pleased with his choice of partnering with Aelys. He had seen in her someone willing to push the line if asked and who was seeking approval as a means of finding stability. Who better to offer that that someone in authority and Ravgor had early on hooked her with his plans to claim land now that the Blood Mist was gone. She was ready to make a daring move to gain the sword and he was excited to see her attempt. It was Halinne’s words that turned him sullen. He had dismissed the threat of these lumbering figures quite readily, forgetting the warning of the mountain and the vibrations that ran through this place. One of the first things that his sorcery had granted him as he grew in power was the sense of magic around him. Magic was a mercurial force and it had taken him quite some time to understand what it was he was sensing and how to quell that feeling so it would not overwhelm him. There was that time that someone brought him a ring, clumsily crafted and looking little more than beaten brass. To his eyes that is all it was but the burst of power that assaulted him as he focused on it nearly overwhelmed him. It was weeks before he would attempt that again, this time reaching out slowly and with just a sliver of his power, the way one would barely open a hooded lantern to get their bearings and then reveal more of the light to see fully what surrounded them. He had learned that the types of magic felt different as well, some leaving him cold and shivering as if he walked among the highest peaks of Mount Varrik while others left him feeling vibrant and alive. Chiding himself for not paying attention to the feeling this place gave him, subtle and faint as it was, he spoke up. “She is right Aelys.” Ravgor was often stern and quite hard on others but would not shy from admitting when another was right. He was equally willing to admit his own faults. Acknowledging his mistakes took the power away from anyone seeking to use them against him. “This place has magic, I ignored it in my focus on what that sword might be. The mountain told me this place was special, that something here drove the orcs out or destroyed them in these caverns. Maybe it is these brutes, maybe not, but I can feel it now. May be best to leave the sword alone.” Maybe, but I'd still love to see that blade a little closer. With his thoughts betraying his own logic and direction, he left it to the half-elf to make her own choice. Last edited by Palliven; May 23rd, 2023 at 02:42 PM. |

![]() The downward slope leading to a smaller cavern was dark but intriguing. Comfortable with underground spaces and limited light, he decided to explore the pathway a little. The woman that had joined him, still curious to him and rather odd in her priorities to Ravgor, had just warned them of the danger these lumbering bodies represented and now was seeking to engage them. He had said his warning. If she chose to push things that was her choice but he had no intention of dying down here. Best to know if this slope would lead him to a larger complex, he could maneuver around and find a defensible position in or a sealed room that would become a trap. Rocks and dirt be damned, if she was going to rile them up anyway, we could have just grabbed that sword. “Watch yerself,” he said to both this companions, but his gaze was clearly on Halinne. “Not sure they will care about your words but they might lash out just because. If the halfling was down here don’t see any other way he could have gone.” Clutching his axe in anticipation of trouble and keeping an eye out for anything about the slope that could be dangerous he made his way towards the nearby chamber. At this point, finding the halfling was not his priority. Making sure he could keep them alive - well himself really but always helped to have more than less in places like this - was his focus. He felt the weight of the runestone he had carved in his pocket but ignored it. The runes he knew so far had power but did little against creatures or monsters of the world.

![]() Tying to judge what was ahead of them in the dark tunnel Ravgor caught wind of the acidic tang of urine in the stale cavern air. He wasn’t an expert that could tell what left it dripping on the walls like Jartran was. She could tell if it was bear or badger that had lifted its leg or squatted on the ground just by sniffing the air. Just one of her many useful skills that had made her a highly sought after hunter and guide. It was a shame that she had been caught in a flash flood and lost several years back. He could have used her on his quest to find lands to claim now that the Blood Mist was gone. Could be one of two things though. The halfling in hiding or some beast in waiting. Not sure I just want to walk in to find out. He was not often indecisive but it took him a minute to make up his mind. Looking around for a rock that would suit his needs, he picked up a particularly flat dark one. Wiping its face on his shirt to get rid of the larger pieces of dirt, he rubbed the center even cleaner with his thumb. He knew the rune he wanted to carve and brought that in mind as he bit into the soft flesh between his thumb and forefinger. A reminder to himself that he should have brought some chalk or charcoal, something he would need to rectify. Dipping a finger into the blood that was pooling where his teeth had sunken in he began to trace the rune of Entice spell: ] RANK 1 ✥ RANGE: Short ✥ DURATION: Immediate The symbol lures the victim, who must make an INSIGHT roll with a negative modification equal to the Power Level. If the roll fails, the victim must RUN to within ARM’S LENGTH of the symbol, spending all their normal actions to do so (bonus actions from talents can still be used normally). When the victim reaches the symbol, or if the symbol is moved, the effect is broken. No effect on monsters.Enticement on the rock. If it was the halfling down there then this spell would draw him out but if it were something more dangerous calling the cavern home it wouldn’t be affected or even know what Ravgor was attempting. He had practiced drawing it and was confident that he had it right but since he had never used this rune before he hoped it would function the way it was supposed to.

![]() The rune worked. He could hear footsteps running towards him. Footsteps that had to belong to the halfling he was trying to lure his way. The halfling wasn’t alone though. Something…else…was coming along with him. Didn’t expect that to happen! Ravgor didn’t have much time to think on what this magical thing could be but if he had he would have concluded that it was whatever was keeping the halfling to be a morsel for when it got hungry. Perhaps some notion of this raced through his mind though. Perhaps that is what led him to trace a symbol in the air before the tunnel entrance as he chanted. The trail of sparkling gold that followed his finger, flaring before fading away, created a seal of magic over the entranceway of the tunnel. The spell was meant to protect one from magic but he hoped that it would also prevent whatever magic was coming towards him from passing through. He took a few steps to the left of the tunnel entrance and stepped out of sight - just in case.

"Something comes," the dwarf calls out to his companions. "Ready yourself."

![]() The magic felt different this time. It was usually subtle, more of an emotional response than a physical sensation most times. Now though, he felt it around him. Swirling lazily about him like a slight breeze just strong enough to rattle dead leaves on the hard ground but not strong enough to spirit them away. Was it because he had pushed himself? Is that why it felt different? Or was it this place. Dark and quiet for so long until they arrived, did they awaken something? Was that what he sensed far down the tunnel and out of sight? Seeing the emaciated figure running towards him and not the halfling he expected Ravgor tried to take in what was happening. The robe, the purpose of his actions and his words - more than just the grunts of the others that were milling about – made the dwarf think that this one was different. The shouts that demanded explanation and cried out disapproval made Ravgor think the gaunt man might be a shaman or leader of some kind. This idea was quashed by the lack of reaction from the clods in the chamber, they ignored the ranting man completely. The magic that he still sensed down the tunnel. The look of surprise on seeing Ravgor and his companions. His anger at it all. Did I pull this man from where he wanted to be? Is he the cause of the calamity here? “Hold yerself fella. Since I got you here, might as well ask you some questions,” A quick glance to Halinne and Aelys to make sure they knew to get ready in case things went awry and he turned back to the grey skinned man that was anxiously pacing around the stone that he looked at with anger. “For starters, what’s down that tunnel you came from. And after that how about telling us what’s going on here with all these folk?” Unsure of what the man’s reaction was going to be, Ravgor made a show of hefting his axe as a silent warning of what a rash reaction might get in return.
