OOC - New and improved
Do you want an additional separate thread to discuss opinions on 4e? -me

This is my first online D&D game. I played 2e, and this is my first 4e game. So that's my hello.

I think this thread should be enough for all OOC discussions.
The thing that surprises me is how many elves and eladrin there are. I know I'm guilty of adding to it, but the way that elves get a movement bonus in 4e matches up so well with Dark Sun that I had to try it out. The only other choice I had was to make a bugbear and call it a half-giant. :P |

JJ and thoughts on what the chosen ones will use for character sheets?

Actually the normal 3e or 3.5e character sheets can be used with a few modifications. There is a good chance we will put up character sheets here, but with the programming it may be many months down the road - heck, I just found out that I won't be getting my physical books until the middle of July - thank goodness for ordering ecopies too.
If you manually change the skills and the ability column of the saves, everything still works pretty well. If you don't like it trying to autocalculate all the time, and want to put more descriptions in your abilities - http://www.3edb.com has a decent sheet that doesn't autocalc. Also, recheck the stats for humans - they got a major boost in this version. I was making a character for a TT game and notices that they get general bonuses, but nice ones. -me

I think there's a PDF or XLS sheet (PDF -> adobe; XLS -> Excel) somewhere out there. I'll try to find it if you want.

There is, but I will want one online that I can view.
So, I have built a semi-opinion on 4e so far - a lot good but some bad. But before I really start passing judgement on it I want to play with it as the rules are. The only changes to the rules I have made are Shooting into Melee, and using Crit Charts (which can be revoked if I get a majority vote by the final players). The part that I'm really not sure about is Magic Item use and only being able to use any of their abilities 1/day. That seems...odd to me. -me

We could attach them to the posts, I think.

Characters can only use daily powers of any magic item 1/day in the heroic tier...it increases by one per tier. Also I think every time that you reach a milestone you gain an additional use of daily powers. You can't use the same magic items daily powers more then once b/c it is only daily but you could use more then one item then in a day. Or at least this is the way that I read the 8th paragraph down on the right column on page 226.

Yes, you can. But you will have to reattach them with every change made. With PbP I may be using the sheet to track your daily usage; a day can last IRL week or months depending on what you are doing (in one game an IC week lasted 1.5 years IRL).

If you have a character with magic boots, sword, cape, and amulet that each have a 1/day power... Heroic tier: You can choose to use only one of those items daily powers each day, then again for each milestone. Paragon tier: You can choose to use only two of those items daily powers each day, then again for each milestone. Epic tier: You can choose to use only three of those items daily powers each day, then again for each milestone. So with no milestones - you cannot use the daily powers all of the items in one day. A lot more abilities have been granted based on class and race, so this might be to balance it - we will have to see during game play. -me

Yeah....after posting my question I realized that the current 3.5 sheet would probably work fine with a little adjusting.....
I'm still getting my head around building a character and honestly haven't looked that closely at magic items.....being that our characters are going to be 1st level I don't imagine it should be too much of a problem for a while.......unless the DM is feeling overly giving. ![]() |

I'm new, and I was wondering how I make a spoilerbox?

The part I think sucks is that the milestone "refresh" doesn't allow you to reuse a magic item power you already used that day. Last edited by Boots; Jun 12th, 2008 at 09:18 AM. |
