He shakes his head, " Actually, an illusion of scent is much, much more difficult than an illusion of sight or sound to manage, and I have little knowledge of illusions, let alone illusions of that power."

He goes into lecture mode as he continues, "Think of it like this, when you smell or touch something it is physically there, you are interacting with it in that instant. Because of this, illusions which are to fool such senses need to either create something or expend much more magical energy to fool those senses. By comparison, our eyes and ears are tricked all the time by even mundane means, let alone magical ones, as we are not physically interacting with the object we see or hear. Thus, spells which fool these easily tricked senses need much less energy, and even the unskilled or dabblers in the arcane can make illusions of sight and sound." He coughs as he realizes what he said, "Not that those who dabble are of any less work than true wizards... That is to say those who focus on one aspect..." He eventually shuts up before he crams his foot even further into his mouth while trying to take back the inadvertent dismissal of Mercy's bardic magical abilities.

Father Finn tries to follow Jarek’s lecture as best he could but the simple priest quickly became lost in the intricacies of magery. The rotund man glances from the vile creature and then to his companions. His almost perpetual smile creases his pudgy cheeks as he considers the issue. “Perhaps we are going about this more complicated than needed. Maybe we could just rub something on the creatures to get the stench on it and then use that to make a trail leading away from us.”
