While his companions made friends, Skovould was busy muttering to himself, [b]"Why in all the hells do we need escorted to the tavern!? How did I end up with a cheery drow?! I thought they were usually stab your face learn your name later kind of people.

When they finally arrive at the Ol' Boar and are asked their preference for the evening, the dwarf plops in a stool close to the taps and answers, "Ale!"

Desna's hyperactivity was stumbled by the frowning innkeeper. These were the hard ones. If she used her Charming magic, he would sooner or later realise what's going on and things will go downhill. This was all diplomatic skills. She skimmed through few pages of The Guide, stuttering "Eh-eh" but she couldn't find anything for the situation. "Um-m hi! Yes! We are here to drink. Treat us with something local, oh and our friend Pauly here too. And something for you as well!" She grinned up to her long ears in an attempt to look as innocent as possible. "Skov?" she looked desperately at the dwarf. "I think you speak the tavern dialect better, why don't you take the wheel here?"

As she sat down on one of the tables, she remembered the awkward conversation about Pelor with Pauley earlier. "Ah yes! It was Lord Ao! Gotta make a note on that one..." and she made a quick note on the pages of The Guide.

"So Pauley" she raised her head "Tell us what are the hot topics in the village these days? Any saucy drama, stuff like that?"

Estilla comes over to Dupet. She sends a menatal picture that conveys the thought that there is some very large canine behind the bar.

Gerrin pours out an ale for Skovould and then pulls out a bottle of wine and pours a glass of wine for Desna. Turning to Farmer Paulus he says, "I suppose since she's buying you'll be wanting something better than the swill you usually buy. But knowing your palette, it would be a waste to give you anything too much better." He then pours a second ale for. To Skovould, "Four farthings" and turning to Desna, "Yours and the mooch comes to two schillings four farthings."

"I'm no mooch," says Farmer Paulus. After Gerrin rolls his eyes, the poor farmer turns to the group and implores, "Well, I'm not." After taking a swig, he continues, "So it's the scuttlebutt you be wanting. Well, about a week ago a man by the name of Sir Bradford came to town. Claimed to be a paladin- who knows, he could have been with that metal armor and fancy sword. Anyway his big talk of quests lit a fire under the two Hucrele kids and five days off they went to the sunken citadel to fight the goblin tribe that lives there. Karakas, a ranger who patrols the countryside, didn't want to see those foolish children come to harm so he went with them too. It's only a about a day maybe less if you use the old road, to the citadel. They ain't back yet so I figure them came to no good. Though I think everyone thought it would turn out badly from the beginning. Fine and all for a self-proclaimed paladin to go questing. That's what they do. But he had no business dragging them two kids with him."

Gerrin chimes in, "While nineteen summers isn't the font of wisdom, the twins were old enough to make their own decisions. Foolish they were, kids they were not."

"Perhaps we can come to a deal for those drinks. It seems you are in need of a minstrel if what the farmer says is true. I am a bit of a performer and can play a show for you. I have a way with the lyre and my feet never tire. Show us you care and spare us the fare and perhaps a room for the night?"

"Drinks cost me money. I have to pay for them too you know. But for a performance tonight, two rooms you can have- one for the gentlemen and one for the ladies. Though if you wish to arrange your sleeping accomadations differently- no skin off my nose.", replies Gerrin.

Gerrin replies, "Twins aye, but not two boys; a boy Talgan and a girl Sharwin. I was a bit foolish in my youth and adventured a while. How I came by the money to buy this place. Pretty good with a greatsword I was and so I can tell the boy's fencing tutor taught him well. Sharwin, took after her uncle- he was teaching her the arcane arts before he died. How far along she had progressed i would not know. If she has died, the poor thing, then that was the last living arcanist in Oakhurst. Of course, there';s the priest of Lathander, Corky, but that's a priest not a wizard."

Okatar settled onto the barstool as it gave an audible groan. He glanced up sheepishly at the innkeep "Sorry. One ale, please."

Okatar glanced uneasily around at the rest of the common room. He hated cities and towns. Too many people made him jumpy. Just because Gerrin had approved, kind of, of letting them in didn't mean other wouldn't want to cause trouble later on.

Master always said smart people see trouble coming and avoid it. But fools walk right into it to regret it later. Wonder which I am...

Desna's ears twitched with interest by the mention of the arcanist. "Did they live with someone? Or they were alone? And this uncle - can you tell us more about him? Oh, and here are the money for the drinks." Desna pulled out her pouch which was quite fat, but not that impressive once she spilled its contents and it was mostly copper coins, gathered from change. She managed to count 24 Farthings and slid them towards Garrin with guilty puppy eyes.

Garrin pours the other two ales and collects the money owed. Looking at Farmer Paulus, "Now go along Pauly, and spread the word that there will be an entertainer tonight. Don't look so glum- one on the house tonight for the telling."

When Farmer Paulus leaves Gerrin asks, "I suppose you are here answering the mayors call. He's down the street. You won't listen but I'll tell you anyway. Lost three friends- that's why I stopped adventuring. You may think going on quests is a grand thing. If you live long enough you'll come to find like I did that it is nothing but sorrow.

And Johan, the twins dead uncle, he had the itch to go adventuring when he was young too. Before I was born. Came back home pretty much the same reason I did. Not much to tell, kept to himself. Occasionally if Kerowyn, the twins mother, came into possession of some valuable goods he'd take it to Neverwinter for sale. "

Hearing about brother and sister twins Dupet holds back tears remembering her twin brother. A few moments later she gathers herself as Estilla brings news of a dog of potentially questionable size. She hugs and kisses her then sidles under the bar behind her friends avoiding the bar keep. she makes her way to the corner of the bar and gives a few yips and barks, “hello? Can I ask you a questions? I mean I know that’s a question in itself so I guess I meant a few or maybe several if all goes well... some! Can I ask you some questions? Like even more than those.”

Garrin smiles at the gnome, evidently more pleased to see her then the rest of the party. "Seems to me that if you are going to be tending bar, answering questions is part and parcel of the job. So go ahead. But may I suggest going to visit the shrine. When the last pastor passed away, the Church of Lathander saw fit to send Sister Dem Nackle to replace him. Though she insists on being called Corkie so I suggest you use that. Anyway, as you can see almost everyone in town is human except for the blacksmith whose a dwarf and Corkie. She might be happy to see one of her own kind seeing as she's been in this backwater nearly twenty years."

Garrin notices the gnome looking at his 200 pound war dog resting by his feet. "That's Xander, my dog. Though Corkie had a saddle made up for him special. If one of the farther out farmers has an emergency, Corkie can saddle up and go tend to them. Faster than walking for her."

Dupet starts petting the dog putting her whole body into it reaching behind the ears and across his body. She smiles seeing an animal though only slightly disappointed she couldn’t talk to it. ”your a little too big for that huh Xander...” keeping her eyes and most of her attention on the dog she asks Garrin, “he’s a cutie. What did this paladin look like? Just in case he’s the type to run when real danger comes around. He may be alone when we find him. Did he leave anything behind? A calling card?” after realizing she was talking out loud she hides behind the dog. ”corkie is a gnome?”

Garrin replies, "Yes, Corkie is a gnome. As to Sir Bradford- hard to miss. He carries a heater shield, argent field with a tenne bordure, azure and or cross and a Griffon ordinary right smack in the middle. He wears a great horned helm and chainmail. His tabbard is white with the same cross and griffon as the shield. And his sword has a greenish blade, that the smith swears is adamant, with a gold cross-hilt and pommel."

Dupet presses her forehead on this horse-like beast forehead. She looks over again But eyes widen at this massive weapon over 3 times bigger then her size sits behind the Bar. After the initial shock and scurry against the bar she wonders if she’s heard of this blade or a “Garrin” with a war dog.

She rehearsed her line several times before Estilla holds her cheek with her palm. She calls down but can’t quite speak. An illusion of the lathander sigil or what she remembers of it appears in the air above the bar. Attempting to ask without speaking “where’s the church?”
